This week on “Out of Office: A Travel Podcast,” Kiernan talks with one of the greatest Star Wars collectors of all time: Steve Sansweet. Steve is the founder of Rancho Obi-Wan, the largest collection of Star Wars memorabilia in the world. Located in Petaluma CA, the museum is open for public tours, but be sure to pre-book. And if it all goes according to plan, soon Rancho Obi-Wan will be joining forces with 3 other top collections to become the brand-new Saga Museum. On May 24, 1996, Sublime played their last show at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma. No one knew it'd be their final concert. But no one knew at the time, either, that singer Bradley Nowell would pass away the next morning at a motel in San Francisco. Sublime would go on to sell over 17 million records, and for obvious reasons, that final show in Petaluma has attained mythic status. An audio bootleg exists; legal issues over still-unreleased video footage have continued for years; and snippets of people's memories can still be overheard at parties in and around Petaluma. But only 900 or so people witnessed Nowell's final performance. The rest of Sublime's millions of fans always want to know: what was it like? In October 1993, 12-year-old Polly Klaas was having a sleepover at her house with two of her friends. They were trying on possible Halloween costumes, never knowing the danger that was lurking just outside her bedroom door. When Polly was abducted, the search for her soon became the largest manhunt in US history. The tragic outcome of the search was the catalyst for California's Three-Strikes law.
I've had a significant life change which has brought me back to my hometown of Petaluma Ca. I'm starting a vegetable farm, and have been getting acquainted with local affairs across the spectrum of issues. This season will involve discussions centered here and now, and how the triple bottom line framework is, is not, could and should apply. Thus though this will be much about particulars here, I suppose the issues are similar in many other localities, as they look to gain autonomy.

Todd ‘Zman’ Zalkins grew up during the Long Beach punk rock scene, where surfing and back yard parties were nothing but the norm. When Sublime first started playing shows, Todd was right there in the middle of it all, and as Sublimes success grew, Todd stayed close with the band, especially lead singer Bradley Knowell. In 1996 After a show in Petaluma CA, the guys headed back to their hotel, and Todd was one of the last ones to see Bradley alive. Around 4 AM that morning, Bradley tried to call Todd, but Todd was passed out after a long night of partying and wouldn't wake up. The next morning, Todd got the heart wrenching news that his friend Bradley had died of a heroin overdose. Todd went on to battle his own demons and struggle with addiction. It wasn't until a near heart attack that he checked himself into a treatment facility after a 17 year run in prescription pills, cocaine and alcohol almost took his life. Today, Todd is an interventionist and state certified Drug & Alcohol counselor (CADC). His story became the subject of the award-winning documentary film, “The Long Way Back” The Story of Todd ‘Zman’ Zalkins, which premiered at multiple film festivals. The film was picked up for worldwide distribution and is available for release on Amazon, iTunes and DVD. @toddzalkins Instagram Website to contact for speaking engagements & intervention: www.toddzalkins.com Follow on Facebook: Todd Zalkins And of course the film’s website: www.thelongwaybackfilm.com www.KnowellFamilyFoundation.org I Am Sober App Website Google Play Store Apple App Store Thanks to our Sponsors: I Am Sober App Foundations Recovery Network Sober Nation Ad music by www.bensound.com
