Ever feel like your prayers for a miracle are going unanswered? In this episode, Jake and Cathy open up about how easy it is to chase happiness in all the wrong places—when Jesus is the only one who can truly satisfy. They talk about what it means to put God first, and how real peace comes when our lives are centered on Him. Plus, they unpack the idea that hope isn't about expecting a specific outcome—it's about trusting Jesus with whatever comes next.
So here's a question for you: When was the last time you really, truly, rested?I don't mean just crashing on the couch scrolling through your phone—I mean soul-deep rest. The kind that fills you up and reconnects you with who you are… and whose you are.God made you in His image. You were literally handcrafted to reflect Him—His goodness, His creativity, and yes, even His rhythm of work and rest. And He didn't just suggest this rhythm to us—He modeled it. God worked for six days, creating everything, and then on the seventh day… He rested. Not because He was tired, but because He wanted to show us how to live in balance. That brings us to Exodus 20, where God says:“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy”It's not because God needs us to rest. It's because we need to rest. Jesus even said, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.” So it's a gift. A holy, weekly invitation to pause and breathe. Now, if you're Catholic, you know that this isn't just a day to nap. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that Sunday is now the fulfillment of the Sabbath—because Jesus rose from the dead on a Sunday. It's a day that symbolizes the new creation, the new beginning that Jesus gives us. This is why it's called the Lord's Day.Going to Mass on Sunday—or Saturday evening—is not optional. It's a holy day of obligation. That might sound strict, but think about it, God is giving you one day a week to rest, worship, and reconnect.CCC 2180 says: The faithful are bound to participate in the Mass. And choosing not to, without a serious reason, is actually a grave sin. That's how important it is.And Sunday isn't just about Mass—it's also about rest. True, sacred rest. The Catechism says we should refrain from unnecessary work, unless it's for our family's needs or essential services. So if you're a nurse or first responder or someone providing for your family—you're not being disobedient by working. But God still invites you to make space for rest, for worship, for renewal. And let's be honest—rest doesn't always come naturally in today's hustle culture. We pride ourselves on being busy. We wear exhaustion like a badge of honor. But God's not impressed by burnout. He's calling us into freedom. So, here's the real question:What does your Sunday look like?Do you make space for God? Do you give Him that hour at Mass?Do you trust Him enough to believe that your to-do list can wait? That He'll take care of the details if you put Him first?Because honestly, the Third Commandment isn't just a rule—it's a rescue. It's a holy reminder that you are not a machine. You're a beloved child of God, and He wants you to be whole, not just productive. So maybe this week, challenge yourself to truly live out the Sabbath. Go to Mass with your heart open. Turn off your email. Take a walk. Pray. Rest. Laugh. Breathe.Because when we keep the Sabbath holy… it keeps us whole.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"music by audionautix.com"Adventures by A Himitsu https://soundcloud.com/a-himitsuMusic released by Argofox https://youtu.be/8BXNwnxaVQEMusic provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/MkNeIUgNPQ8

Have you ever had that moment where someone important remembers your name? Like a boss, or a teacher, or maybe someone you really admire. Doesn't that feel amazing? It's like—whoa, I exist. I matter. I'm not just a face in the crowd.Did you know that God started His relationship with us by doing something really vulnerable? In Exodus chapter 3, God appears to Moses in the burning bush, and Moses asks, basically, “Okay… you want me to tell people who sent me. What's Your name?”And God says: “I AM who AM.”This is more than a name. It's a revelation. God isn't just giving Moses a label—He's revealing His essence. His eternal, all-present, never-changing being. And He does it out of… trust. And that brings us to the 2nd Commandment:“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”Now, a lot of people think this just means “don't misuse God's name” And yeah, that's part of it—but it's deeper than that. The Catechism paragraph 2143 says that God confides His name to those who believe in Him. That's so personal. Like giving someone your deepest password. He's saying, “I want to be known by you… but please don't misuse what I've entrusted to you.”This name is holy. And when we use it lightly or disrespectfully, it's like we're trampling on that sacred trust. If someone you love shared something deeply personal with you—like a childhood wound or a secret dream—and then you joked about it in public… that would hurt, right? That's what we do when we throw around God's name like it's just another word.CCC 2146 says the second commandment even forbids blasphemy—not just misusing God's name, but the names of Mary and all the saints, too. These names aren't just “religious people.” They're family. They're part of our spiritual household. We're called to honor them. And then we get into oaths.Jesus said something that really challenges the way we speak. In the Sermon on the Mount, He says:“You shall not swear falsely… But I say to you, do not swear at all. Let your ‘yes' be yes and your ‘no' be no.”CCC 2150-2153 reminds us—oaths aren't casual. If you swear something in God's name and don't mean it, that's not just a lie—that's taking His name in vain. That's serious. When we're baptized—we're marked “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”CCC 2156 says that God's name sanctifies us in that moment. Like, you're branded with heaven. You become His.And then—God calls each of us by name. CCC 2158 says that everyone's name is sacred. And not just for now, but for eternity.God doesn't forget your name. Ever.He says, “I see you. I know you. You're mine.”So when we talk about not using God's name in vain—it's not about rules for the sake of rules. It's about love. It's about respecting Someone who trusted us with something holy. It's about speaking with care. Living with reverence. Letting our words reflect the weight and beauty of the relationship we've been given. So, maybe today we pause. How do we use His name? When we're frustrated… when we're joking… when we're texting. Are we honoring the God who loved us enough to tell us His Name?

Relics exist around the country, but there hasn't been a central database on where to locate them... until now. Anthony Di Mauro founded The Relic Project as a way to make it easier to access the saints and help you in your journey of faith.
You were made to be in a relationship with the living God and His first commandment is that you should worship Him alone. God commands us to love Him because He loves us first. The First Commandment of the Ten Commandments is “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image.” Jesus in the Gospels said very clearly: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” It may seem like the First Commandment may be difficult to break. After all, we don't worship statues! But if we really stop and reflect, how many of us are too attached to material things of this world? We might be too reliant on money or status, and we may value other things as more important than God. The Lord truly wants us to make him number one.CCC 2093 says: We are called by the first commandment to have charity; we must love God above everything and all creatures. One can sin against charity through indifference (refusing to reflect on God's divine love), ingratitude (failing to acknowledge God's goodness), lukewarmness (negligence in responding to divine love), acedia (spiritual sloth), and hated of God which comes from pride. Not taking our faith as seriously as we ought is a sin against the first commandment. Another way we could break this commandment is outlined in the CCC 2110-2117. The First Commandment forbids superstition and irreligion. Superstition is a departure of the worship we give to the true God. We are commanded to reject idolatry which not only refers to pagan worship but also includes whenever one honors or reveres something that is not God in the place of God: whether this be power, pleasure, race, ancestors, government, money, or many other things. All forms of divination must be rejected including recourse to satan or demons, conjuring up the dead, consulting horoscopes or astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens, clairvoyance phenomenon, turning to mediums, and practicing occult magic. These contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear we owe to God alone. CCC 2129-2132 says: While the the First Commandment states "you shall not make for yourself a graven image", the veneration of sacred images is not contrary to this law because the worship is not directed at the images themselves which are considered mere things but leads us to worship the God Incarnate. God our Father in heaven loves you so much, and He asks that you return that love back to Him, not only for His sake but for yours... for your salvation. When we make God our first priority, everything else falls into order and we begin to see His gifts in their proper place. What is it that you are clinging onto that you need to give over to God today? Let him be the center of your life and be your Lord, your Savior, and your Master. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------"music by audionautix.com"Adventures by A Himitsu https://soundcloud.com/a-himitsuMusic released by Argofox https://youtu.be/8BXNwnxaVQEMusic provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/MkNeIUgNPQ8

Do you ever have trouble following rules because you feel like they restrict you in some way? The Lord has given us the Ten Commandments not to take away our freedom but rather to allow us to be truly free. St John Paul II said “freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in doing what we ought” The CCC 2057 states that the Ten Commandments first must be understood in the context of Exodus when God liberates his people from Egypt. By giving the Ten Commandments God is revealing His Will and thus revealing His heart to us. “In making his Will known God reveals himself to his people.” CCC 2059The Catechism explains that it is in the New Covenant that Jesus affirms the validity of the Ten Commandments when he responds to the rich young man to keep the commandments in order to attain eternal life. In a different gospel passage when someone asks Him which one is the greatest commandment He replies you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and the second is you shall love your neighbor as yourself. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus not only confirms the commandments, He elevates them. The First three commandments include love of God and the last seven are about love of neighbor. The Ten Commandments I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.Remember to keep holy the Lord's Day. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall covet tour neighbor's wife. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods. The CCC 2071 explains that God has written natural law on the hearts of every human being, but God need to reveal the Ten Commandments because of our fallen human condition. He has given us His Commandments to clearly show how he wants us to live. These commandments can be difficult to follow but “what God commands he makes possible by his grace.“ CCC 2082We live in a culture where some believe that there is no moral absolute. However, if we truly embrace the Ten Commandments as a sign of God's love for us, and not His control, we can pursue the genuine freedom that He created us for. We can become truly free when we follow His Law, which is His Will and also His heart.

Introducing 'Catholic Kernel of Truth' from TruthPop! Dive into short, digestible, and catechetical knowledge that will help you learn and grow in your Catholic faith. Learn about the 'Holy Orders' in this CKoT.Did you know that by your baptism you have been made a priest, prophet and king and that you are able to make offerings to God? However, Jesus also established a ministerial priesthood by the sacrifice that He made once and for all.The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that in the Old Testament God's chosen people were a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, but He also established a priesthood from one of the twelve tribes of Levi that was set apart for liturgical practices. The Church sees this as a prefiguring of the ordained ministry of the New Testament. Jesus came to redefine what priesthood and sacrifice is and accomplish what the old priesthood could not do. (CCC 1539-1541)“Everything that the priesthood of the Old Covenant prefigured finds its fulfillment in Christ Jesus, the one mediator between God and men.”(CCC 1544). Christ is the only true priest but by virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, the ministerial priest acts in persona Christi and is truly made like to the high priest and possess authority to act in the power and place of the person of Christ himself. (CCC 1548)Christ's presence in the minister is not to be understood if he were preserved from all human weakness, error, and sin. (CCC 1550). Priests are not perfect but they have a vitally important role in Christ's Church. In the sacrifice of the Mass the ministerial priest make present Christ offering of himself once and for all as a spotless victim to the Father. (CCC 1566) Christ established the priesthood of the New Covenant by ordaining his twelve apostles, and thus ordained ministry is exercised in 3 degrees, bishops, presbyters, and deacons. (CCC 1593)As successors of the apostles, the bishop receives the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders and makes him the visible head of the particular church entrusted to him. Bishops share in the responsibility and mission of the Church under the authority of the Pope, the successor of St. Peter (CCC 1594)Ministerial priests are united with the bishops as they depend on them to exercise their pastoral functions and are called bishop's coworkers and form the presbyterium under their bishop and receive the charge of a parish community (CCC 1595). Deacons are ministers ordained for tasks of service of the church and do not receive ministerial priesthood. They assist in important functions in the ministry of the word, divine worship, pastoral governance, and service of charity. (CCC 1596)Ordination of the sacrament of Holy Orders is granted by the laying on of hands followed by a prayer of consecration asking for the graces of the Holy Spirit required for the ministry. This imprints an indelible sacramental character, meaning this can never be taken away. (CCC 1597)Only baptized men can validly receive this sacrament. The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles and they likewise did the same as they choose their successors. The Church is therefore bound by the choice made by the Lord Himself. (CCC 1577)One can only be called by God to receive the sacrament of Holy Orders as an unmerited gift. The Church has the responsibility and right to discern with the candidate and decide if he is called by God to this vocation. (CCC 1578) All ordained ministers of the Roman Catholic Church with the exception of permanent deacons are chosen from among men who live a celibate life and intend to remain celibate. They are called to consecrate themselves with an undivided heart to the Lord and give themselves entirely to God and His Church. (CCC 1579). Priests make it possible for you to receive and adore Jesus in the Eucharist. The devil hates Catholic priests because they bring Jesus into the world in a unique way that only they are able to do. Priests are not preserved from weakness and sin. They are imperfect just like us so we must pray and encourage our priests. Throughout the day you can make sacrifices for your priest and consider inviting him to lunch or dinner after Sunday Mass. Your support and prayers are needed for them to carry out this vital mission.

Introducing 'Catholic Kernel of Truth' from TruthPop! Dive into short, digestible, and catechetical knowledge that will help you learn and grow in your Catholic faith. Learn about the 'Confession' in this CKoT.Jesus Christ is the divine physician of our bodies as well as our souls. In addition to the Anointing of the Sick, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the other sacrament under the category of healing. James 5:16 states: “Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed.”The CCC states that although Christians were washed, sanctified, and justified through Baptism, humans have an inclination to sin tradition calls concupiscence and therefore we are in need of continuing conversion and purification. Jesus instituted the sacrament when he showed himself to his apostles on Easter when He breathed on them and said “receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any they are retained. Since Christ entrusted his apostles the ministry of reconciliation, bishops who are their successors, and priests, bishops' collaborators, continue to exercise this ministry. By virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, priests and bishops have the power to forgive all sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. CCC 1461Prior to receiving this sacrament, the penitent must make examination of conscience in the light of the word of God. The passages best suited to this can be found in the Ten Commandments, moral catechesis of the Gospels, and apostolic Letters such as the Sermon on the Mount. CCC 1454The structure of the Sacrament of Reconciliation are first a greeting and blessing from the priest, the confession of sins to the priest, the acceptance of a penance, the absolution given by the priest, and a prayer of thanksgiving and dismissal. CCC 1480All mortal sins of which the penitent is conscious of must be recounted. Confession of every day faults, also called venial sins, are strongly recommended to be confessed. This helps us form our conscience, fight against evil tendencies, let ourselves be healed by Christ, and progress in the life of the Spirit. By receiving the sacrament more frequently we are spurred to be merciful as our Heavenly Father is merciful. CCC 1458Each one of the faithful is bound by an obligation to confess sins in the sacrament at least once a year. Anyone who is aware of having committed a mortal sin must not receive Holy Communion without having first received sacramental absolution unless he has a grave reason and there is no possibility of going to confession. CCC 1457 "Priests who hear the confessions are bound under very severe penalties to keep absolute secrecy regarding the sins that his penitents have confessed. This is called the sacramental seal because it must remain sealed by the sacrament." CCC 1467“The spiritual effects of the sacrament of Penance are reconciliation with God, reconciliation with the Church, remission of the eternal punishment incurred by mortal sins, remission at least in part of temporal punishments resulting from sin, peace and serenity of conscience, spiritual consolation, and an increase of spiritual strength for the Christian battle. “ CCC 1496Confession not only reconciles us to God it reconciles us to the Church. If you or a loved one is away from the faith, the sacrament of reconciliation is an opportunity to come back into the family of God, the Church. You are never too far gone and Jesus' mercy will always be greater and more powerful than your sins. Some people may say, why can't I just confess my sins directly to God?” In the sacrament of reconciliation the priest is Persona Christi and you are confessing your sins directly to Jesus. Many people have found that saying their sins out loud and hearing the absolution from the priest helps relieve the burden of shame and guilt and find true freedom. Go to confession and go often because heaven would not be the same without you.

Introducing 'Catholic Kernel of Truth' from TruthPop! Dive into short, digestible, and catechetical knowledge that will help you learn and grow in your Catholic faith. Learn about the 'Anointing of the Sick' in this CKoT.God doesn't always remove our illness and suffering but He does transform and redeem it. Hey it's Cathy, and here's another Catholic Kernel of Truth. The Catholic Church offers hope and grace through the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. CCC states “by the sacred Anointing of the Sick the Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. Freely uniting them to the Passion and death of Christ.”By Jesus‘s passion and death on the cross, He has given a new meaning to suffering: it can configure us to him and unite us with his redemptive passion. The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is given to those who are ill by anointing them on the forehead and hands with blessed oil saying “through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up”This is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. If a sick person who received the anointing recovers his health, he can in the case of another grave illness receive the sacrament again: if during the same illness the person's condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated. The effects of the sacrament are that one is given strength, peace, and courage to endure the sufferings of the illness, the forgiveness of sins if the person was not able to obtain it through the sacrament of Penance, the restoration of health if it is conductive to the salvation of his soul, and the preparation for passing over to eternal life. In addition to Anointing of the Sick the Church offers those who are about to leave this life the Eucharist which is called Viaticum. These sacraments prepare for our heavenly homeland that complete the earthly pilgrimage. It is beautiful that the Church allows the Anointing of the Sick even when you are not on your deathbed. I have had the opportunity to receive the Anointing of the Sick in my own life and it brought much peace and hope. If you or someone you know is sick right now, consider encouraging them to receive this sacrament. Even if they have been away from the faith this could be their stepping stone back into the Church. This sacrament reveals that Jesus is the Divine Physician who not only wants to heal our bodies but also heal our souls so we may be with Him in heaven forever.

Learn about 'Confirmation' in this CKoT.When you feel scared to share your faith with someone, you don't need to do it alone. The gift of the Holy Spirit has been supercharged in your soul at your Confirmation. The CCC states Confirmation imprints a spiritual mark of the Holy Spirit in you. The effects of confirmation are that it roots you more deeply in the divine filiation with God the Father, it unites you more firmly to Christ, it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in you, it renders your bond with the Church more perfect, and it gives you the strength to defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly and never to be ashamed of the cross. The essential rights of confirmation are anointing the forehead with sacred chrism and laying on of the minister‘s hands with the words in Latin “be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit”At Pentecost the apostles were in the upper room and the Holy Spirit descended upon them and they were strengthened to go out to make disciples of all nations. Learn about the 'Eucharist' in this CKoT.You might wonder how the Eucharist tastes like bread and wine but it is truly Jesus present. Jesus said “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and abides in me and I in him.” (Jn 6:51)CCC 1324 states the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The Eucharist is oriented towards all other sacraments. This means that the Eucharist must be the center of our faith because it is Jesus Himself. The word Eucharist comes from the Greek word “Eucharistesas” which means 'given thanks'. Jesus instituted the Eucharist when He took bread and had given thanks He broke it and gave it them saying “this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”And likewise the cup after supper saying “this cup which is poured out for you is the New Covenant in my blood.”We celebrate the Eucharist in the Mass in which ordained priests concentrate the bread and wine. The elements remain the same but they are substantially changed into Christ body and blood, soul and divinity. This is called transubstantiation. Jesus is fully present under the appearance of bread and wine. Receiving the Eucharist is called Holy Communion because you are in communion with Christ and with the Church. Because Jesus is truly present in this Sacrament, the Church honors Him with the practice of adoration where the Eucharist is exposed in a monstrance and you can go and pray before Him. If you struggle to believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, take these concerns to Him as you sit in front of Him in the Eucharist. Ask him to deepen your belief and trust in Him. He has come to give you life, and through the Eucharist you will find this abundant life. The disciples even said “this teaching is hard who could accept it?” (Jn 6:60). But let us be like St. Peter and say, “To whom should we go Lord, you have the words of eternal life.” (Jn 6:68)----------------------------------------------------------------------------"music by audionautix.com"Adventures by A Himitsu https://soundcloud.com/a-himitsuMusic released by Argofox https://youtu.be/8BXNwnxaVQEMusic provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/MkNeIUgNPQ8

Introducing 'Catholic Kernel of Truth' from TruthPop! Dive into short, digestible, and catechetical knowledge that will help you learn and grow in your Catholic faith. Learn about the 'Sacrament of Baptism' in this CKoT.Where are you finding your identity right now? We can find our true identity as being a son or daughter of God through our Baptism. CCC 1213 states Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of GodJesus' last words while on this earth were, “go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mt 28:19)Jesus has revealed how important Baptism is because through it, we are made into a new creation and become sons and daughters of God, we are given the power of Christ over the enemy, and we are born into the Church which is the path of Salvation. When Jesus was Baptized God the Father stated “this is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 3:17)When you were baptized God the Father also looked at you with love and said the same thing about you. Our baptism reminds us that our identity is not in our work, relationships, or what people think about us. Our deepest identity is being a beloved child of God though our Baptism. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------"music by audionautix.com"Adventures by A Himitsu https://soundcloud.com/a-himitsuMusic released by Argofox https://youtu.be/8BXNwnxaVQEMusic provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/MkNeIUgNPQ8

Introducing 'Catholic Kernel of Truth' from TruthPop! Dive into short, digestible, and catechetical knowledge that will help you learn and grow in your Catholic faith. Learn about 'Sacraments' in this CKoT. Living out your Catholic faith can be difficult, but during Jesus' life He gave us visible signs of His invisible grace called Sacraments. These were instituted by Jesus Himself to help us receive His Grace more fully and tangibly. CCC 1131 states the sacraments are efficacious signs of grace instituted by Christ and entrusted to the church by which divine life is dispensed to us. There are seven sacraments in the church: Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. The Catechism states that the purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify, build up the body of Christ, and give worship to God.Sacraments help us to receive continual graces. Imagine being in the desert, desperate for water. If we deprive ourselves of the graces Christ wants to give us in the Eucharist and Reconciliation, we're in a sense choosing to live in the desert away from the life giving water. When we're struggling with a particular sin or vice, continually going back to the Sacraments is what will heal us and help us to get to heaven. Never get tired of receiving what Jesus wants to give you. It's exactly what you need."----------------------------------------------------------------------------"music by audionautix.com"Adventures by A Himitsu https://soundcloud.com/a-himitsuMusic released by Argofox https://youtu.be/8BXNwnxaVQEMusic provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/MkNeIUgNPQ8
