Thank you for reminding us along the way that this is a journey to meet YOU.  Amen. 8 - We are midway in the preparation for the journey to The Promised Land that is found in Numbers 7,8,9.  The lamps are set up in ch. 8. This is more than just the next detail.  Lighting bodes large in the construction of anything. The structures and the layout of all that Moses is involved in here and the duties of the Priests, all this is done precisely as God intends. Then comes the lighting. Since the whole place is right it may as well look right too.  Lighting provides that. My husband and I film in Hollywood and the detail that goes into lighting is crucial and more. Everything is ruined through wrong lighting. We've been in worship services in hundreds of venues where the lighting and those running it covers the entire spectrum: perfect and spiritually perfect -to- dismally unprepared with malfunctions gone amok. Through lighting we are able to interpret the entire world. God lit the sun. "Light" is the first noun that God uttered in our galaxy; Gen. 1:3.  They were not to prepare, or enter, or worship in darkness. Pardon the belaboring this point, we just didn't want to think, "oh, ok, lamps are in place, whatever, 'next!' " -understanding the preparation of the Levites is a fascinating process. The rigors and matters involved, each step is a vital part. We look at that and may think, 'what's the big deal?'  IT IS a big deal. These are the agents that walk people into the Presence of God.  They needed to have it right, and comprehensively so. No sloppy attitude about anything was allowed. Imagine running a tuxedo rental/clothing store with a sloppy attitude. It would be closed right after the first wedding! Prepping and dressing right matters. We recognize people and their roles by their uniform/outfit/appearance first. And as things pertain to God, it is all the more a pivotal matter.  We will also be welcomed into heaven for having the right outfit and v.v. (clothed in Christ!!!) 9 - We have been reading from the World Stream [Gen. - Deutr.] weekly since Jan. 01. We read the Exodus nearly four months ago; April 30. Realize, as we read the Passover today, that it has been about a year since having crossed the Red Sea. And the Passover needed to be instituted for time immemorial. That was done so here. They needed to know Passover was not a 'one-shot-feast' to get them out of Egypt. Jesus Himself was sacrificed on Passover 13 centuries later to instill in us that God's judgment would 'pass over' us because of God providing a sacrifice. This is intense stuff.  Then the guidance factor of the cloud over the tabernacle is talked about. Do you read this like we do and think, "I wish God's guidance were so clear for us today!" Well it is.  It's often subtle, but it's clear. We may think that if God guided more clearly, we would obey more clearly. No we wouldn't. If we do not listen to the subtle words and guidance from God, we will not obey the clouds and fire either.  The Israelites received the clearest memos from God the world has ever seen and the disobedience through their centuries was stark.  Obey the whispers and God will keep giving more clear and clear clouds and fires to follow. 10 - The trumpets are made and God tells them how to use them: to gather, to move, to defend via calling on God, when you're joyful, to welcome new seasons, when making offerings. And catch that last sentence of God saying about trumpets, "they will remind me of you..." Good heavens, that line, which seems reversed, could be discussed for a year.  'Ever attend a worship service where the call to worship is a brass choir?  MAKES YOUR SKIN CRAWL!!                            It was now time to leave Sinai.  They had been there for a year and they marched on with the Ark of the Covenant in front of them. 11 - Then the Lord hears the complaining of the people whose life was not cushy enough. The Lord is angry about complaining.  Another memo about life is that we may complain about how life is going or not going right; right enough - and then the complaining commences. Well the best way to find a remedy is to stop complaining and move with God.  How does any of us feel about the person on our team who always complains and whines? Is it any different at work? at family reunions? What do you want to do with/or/about the complainer at church who just won't stop?  ... Don't feel guilty about this feeling, btw, God wants what you want on this one!  ha.   So the complaining about hardship turned into complaining about food.  They had fixed manna every which way fromSunday: manna-cotti, filet or manna, ba-Manna bread - [like Keith Green sung about in the 1970's.]  Moses' is weary of the complaining and whining and his conversation with God and God's reply to him is some sterling advice in leadership. God addresses the complaining and wishing they were back in Egypt. How do you think that made God feel? How would you feel if your hub'/wife, during your second anniversary dinner, announced they wish they were someplace else with someone else?!  ugh!  God says, "ok, here comes the meat and you'll be eating it until you throw it up and it comes out your nose."   The prophesying and Moses' wishing that all would prophesy is of note - it's better than all the complaining!  So finally God gives them their meat as quail. And everyone has a "pickup truck load heaped high" of quail.  The got what they wanted but God had to strike a few of them to warn them to quit the complaining before they moved on. Be assured, complaining about what God has done for us is the most effective way to make sure that he becomes disgusted with us.  Our assignment in life is to be grate-ful - not full of complaining.

Exodus 30-33 We are in the World Stream as God continue to give Moses instructions. We are reading from the Modern English Version this week. 7streamsmethod.com | @7StreamsMethod | @serenatravis | #7Streams | Donate Commentary by Dr. Drake Travis Lord Jesus, there is such a disturbing disparity between your glory and your desire for us against the behavior we witness at the first sign that people feel discouraged or bored or perplexed.  Let us be like Moses who wants you and to know you and to be with you more than life itself.  Amen. The directions involved for the Tabernacle and the articles within continue here.  What started five chapters back is still going on.  If it helps to keep oriented, the Directions for the Tabernacle encompass ch's. 25-31 of Exodus.  The orders are all given, it's time for Moses to return to the people and guess what is going on . . .  30 - The description resumes today with the Altar of Incense. Keeping the big picture, we are inside the Holy Place; a 30' X 15' sectioned off area that is inside the "courtyard" of the entire 150' X 75" area that has a 12' high curtain of goat hair surrounding everything. Back in this Holy Place are four items: the Altar of Incense, the Golden Table, on that is the Bread of the Presence (of the Lord), and the Golden Lampstand.  The Altar of Incense was most holy to the Lord and incense was to be burning on it continually and for all generations.  The insinuation was that the Lord is sweet to us and He is always here. -a 1/2 shekel offering was to be made by all unto God for atonement.  Everyone 20 and older must take part in this. -a large Bronze Basin was to be built, placed and filled with water.  Aaron and his sons were to wash hands and feet before coming into the tent or near the altar. Coming in dirty meant death - so this is a memo they best adhere to ... along with the rest of them! -As for the anointing oil, here it is in our terminology: it is 12+1/2 lbs. of Myrrh, 6+1/4 lbs. of cinnamon, 6+1/4 lbs. of cane, 12+1/2 lbs. of cassia, mixed together with a gallon of pure olive oil. Pardon the crass visual but a 5-gallon bucket is not big enough to mix this in. Imagine the aroma as this is expertly mixed and then dabbed upon the tent, the fabrics, the ark, the utensils, the altars and the basins.  'Ever walk into a place and react, "wow, it stinks in here!" Well, entering the House of God had the opposite effect. All inhaled and thought, "wow, I love this place!" This and the Incense that was compounded with frankincense and ground and them placed in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting was a very sacred commodity.  All research even today shows that an aroma is the greatest trigger of memory. They were to associate this overwhelming sweet savor with the presence of God, and to never forget how sweet it is to be with God 31 - Two men, Bezalel and his "right hand man" Oholiab, are to lead in the building of everything that has been prescribed for building and making in this last five chapters. They were the chief artisans for the Tabernacle and everything was to be made exactly according the "blueprints" that God has been giving to Moses for much of the last 40 days since Moses was called into God's presence to note all this. -The stern reminder to remember the Sabbath is laid down. And God is not doing this to be a bully-to-fools-who-stacks-up-rules.  He wants people to be refreshed and rested not always working themselves into a stupor and then living in a stupor. This pleases no one; not even the workaholic who can't get himself to pull away and rest a bit. 32 - This golden calf scene is a mess!  The people are wondering where Moses is as he is on Sinai in a cloud, surrounded by fire and taking notes. Moses was in a VERY intense lecture series! But when it approaches 40 days with Moses away, the people revert and dive right back into worship of "the cow".  The 'bull' was the principle god of Egypt, names "Apis".  This was also the illicitly instituted false god of the northern kingdom 4-5 centuries later from 930 - 722 B.C.  Egypt worshiped the cow because it gave beef, bones for tools, milk, fertilizer, horns for decoration, leather, and the cow provided strength for plowing. This was what Israel was immersed in for 400 years in Egypt. Some muse that the Israelites can't be blamed for being oriented as such, but honestly! -after seeing the dozens of miracles since the plagues, the Exodus, the water, the fire, the cloud, the manna, the quail - this rebellion is inexcusable. They were carrying on like a alcohol party gone amok after midnight on a weekend in a pagan university town where stolen furniture was thrown into heap and burned and all the kooks are half-dressed and dancing in circles around it.  Aaron's explanation is as preposterous as their behavior!  Moses' plea with God [both times] is admirable; the mark of a true leader. Nonetheless there is punishment to be administered and 3,000 Israelites die for this shameful pagan revelry. 33 -  After all this, it's time to move on.  God gives assurance of destiny, family security, victory, provision and blessing BUT their attitude must be dealt with first.  There must be complete repentance. -The Lord would meet with Moses the way any true-hearted Believer ought desire to speak with God.  Face-to-face, [look again at Exo. 33:11]. This is virtually the most astonishing verse in the whole Old Testament from Creation in Genesis 1 to Malachi 4 written some 3600 years later!. God and Moses had a most endearing and historical conversation and assured him that He would be with him wherever he traversed. Moses revered the Presence of God most of all. Moses would go when God moved.  Moses would not move on alone; with Him only.  How about us???

So many across the earth fall into trouble and sit in the ashes of a ruined life and moan, "how come no one told me?"  Well, you tell us God. You guide and warn and remind and teach and do this to save us heartache and loss, and we thank you. Amen. 19 - The awe-inspiring pre-show to the Law being given happens in this chapter. These 10 Commandments would prove to be the pillars of civil society. And the Israelites are looking up at all the fireworks and smoke and lightning as we read it in ch.19 and it had to be a heart-stopper!  The events of this "preView" to the Ten Commandments and their arrival and delivery to the people were of grave importance. The future of society would hinge upon these coming laws. God had to get their attention prior to the Law. To read the TenCom's and to shrug and walk away would have been a travesty.  Thus the fire and earthquake and trumpet blast that must have been Gabriel or Michael cutting loose has them at attention!  God also wanted the Israelites to hear God talking to Moses so that they would take Moses seriously throughout his life.  The impressions were made and - here comes the Law. One note that is of merit: historically, we know that the Israelites were not capable of keeping the Law as no one is. Interesting that we see Elijah right here in this same place centuries later when he is on the run from Ahab/Jezebel. It wasn't the thunder and lightning and fire that got Elijah's heart. It was God's whisper.  See I Kings 19 to review that at your leisure. 20 -  The Contract with God required keeping these Ten Commandments.  They are not 10 SUGGESTIONS that God hopes they hear and adhere to. They are not DEMANDs (is DEMANDMENTS a word? :-) as if God would burn them and throw them in hell the instant anyone falters. They were commands. You shall not do this. It could be worded in English today, "you won't be killing or stealing or swearing/cursing by Me, got it?! ..."  This is the way it was going to be.  The first 4 pertained to treatment of God. The last 6 pertained to the treatment of eachother. Very important to reverence eachother too!  'Ever been around someone who claims they love God and yet they treat their neighbors like rodents? 'pretty nauseating isn't it? There's a whole new code and God offered endless support/provision/protection for those who followed His Law.  Those who wouldn't, well, you made your choice and you're to get out of my sight." Don't anyone get mad because of their disobedience.          All this is delivered in a setting that shook them to the core.  The Israelites had been dwellers in the delta for 400+ years. and they'd never really seen a mountain. And here they were getting a new "life code", the scenery is colossal and terrifying, trumpets (that they can't see!) are blasting, the earth is shaking, the mountain is on fire.  WOW.  Get this memo people and obey this Law. 21 - 22 - The first aspect of augmented civil law was that of slavery and how to handle the matter. This is a topic of must passion today, so much so, that a sensible discussion regarding slavery is often thwarted by ignorance, anger, and resentment. The truth is that 80% of the slaves that resided in North America from 1619 to 1865 (at the end of the Civil War) were treated rather kindly as America was a biblically founded government and biblical laws commanding the fair treatment of slaves were abided by.  Granted 20% of slave owners (who dominate the discussion) were cruel and a notable amount of these brutal slave holders were of African descent themselves (which is usually ignored and very carefully so). The argument won't be put to rest here and we don't intend to but . . .    Be that as it may, the issue of slaves [a worldwide phenomenon] and their treatment had to be dealt with and God needed to step in and lay out rules. These slaves were humans made in God's image too. They were not animals that could be kept however or slaughtered and discarded whenever.  The people of God who possessed slaves must treat them honorably; better than the rest of the world did.  God commanded it.   The truth is that there are slaves today being held and driven by masters who are not Believers - and they will not read our Bible. One report gives a conservative estimate that there are in excess of 200Million slaves on earth today. The majority of them brutalized Christians being treated so by Muslims, Communists, Atheists, and Pagans (and the worldwide secular media couldn't care less).  Other aspects explained pertained to violence, deviant behavior, theft, rape, pets-gone-wild, and negligence resulting in harm,  The details involving disputes arising around animals is pertinent for animals were pets, food, income, tools for labor, etc.  The Hebrews must remember that they were to be upstanding people as a testimony to the world. They were to treat orphans and widows and foreigners/travelers well.  They were not engage in pagan behavior of any kind, and be amenable regarding loan$.  These were the beginning laws that would be the mark of a civil and godly society.  A country's atmosphere, even today, reflects on whether they adhere to, or disobey, or are ignorant of these laws that are spelled out starting here and running through to the end of Deuteronomy.

Psalm 22-27 We are in the Wisdom Stream today as we read from the Lexham English Bible this week. 7streamsmethod.com | #7Streams | @7StreamsMethod | @serenatravis.com Melissa Disney's CDs - Sweet Faith & Love Commentary by Dr. Drake Travis Today is some of, if not, the most famous literature and prayers EVER written.  Be blessed and keep reading these all your lives. My husband and I read this again and again.  And we are glad to read it with you today. Ps 22 -   You heard Jesus quote this on the Cross.  God had not forsaken the Son. But to hang on a Cross is to feel forsaken, no matter what the Truth is.  Here is a Psalm that can only be attributed to the Crucifixion of our Lord.  And Jesus; The Truth, is on the Cross feeling forsaken, sneered at, pierced (bit by lions accd'g to this translation), his clothing getting illustratively "auctioned off".  He's in a bad way and calling out on God His Father.  That means that when we are in the worst of duress, we are to do that same - for God is listening.  Also it asserts that Jesus understands our plight, regardless.  That means we are never alone. 23 - When the Lord is your Shepherd, you have what you need; there is rest and peace and beauty, restoration, peace in all settings, comfort (strengthening), we are fed regardless of the surroundings.  We have anointing, plenty, goodness, love and mercy along with eternal security.  That should answer all our questions, oy mate? In all seriousness, David likely wrote this when he was a boy in Bethlehem, tending sheep. Just over 1000 years later, angels announce to shepherds that the Good Shepherd has arrived. It wouldn't surprise me if it all happened in the same field. Ponder that amazement. 24 -  A series of writers and biblical commentators muse that Ps.24 was what David wrote when the ark was brought back into Jerusalem as told in II Sam. 6:12-15.  The sentiment of the Psalm certainly matches the festivity of the occasion. God IS a celebration of love and remember that our entry and the beginning of heaven for us starts with worship and celebration. 25 - David is looking for rescue, guidance, mercy, a right-standing in God's Presence,  protection, and redemption.  It's a Psalm written and recited by a man in anguish who knows where to turn when life has taken a turn such as this.  It's the same David of whom we see cheering and praising in other places. This is what made David a man after God's own heart. He wanted to know and have the heart of God - so he did. Such a wonderful model David is for us. 26 - whereas 25 if 'David lamenting, "God, I've messed it up here. Help me", 26 is David nearly protesting, "God, I've been good about it all, don't "diss' me out now.  You said you were good ... "    It's similar to us if we prayed, "uh, God, you told me to call on you and that you would answer me.  I'm calling on you now, and I need you to answer me.  I don't want to listen to a recording, I want you to 'pick up'."   'Ever feel this way?  So did David - and it kept him in prayer. 27 - We all know what it's like to arrive at a favorite place, be it a meadow, or a vista on the trail, or a beach, or a relatives' house.  We pause and sigh, "wow, I love it here!!"  David says that when he sits with God.  He loves to sit with God and sing and listen and bask and rest.  Let's let this urge us accordingly.  Don't drift when we pray. Don't check your watch during a sermon. Turn off your phone when in a worship service. Pull away from the screen when family is telling you something vital and impassioned. Don't read the news or popups when your spouse is dining with you.  Come on, now.  God calls us into his courtyard.  Get there.  Psalm 27 helps us all get there. God thank you.  Thank you and thank you again.  You ARE everything we need.  Fill us with gratitude and may it spill over back into your house as we worship with you.  Amen.
