Episode 280 features former Major League Baseball Umpire, Al Clark and barbecue aficionado, Big Rome sharing wonderfully entertaining stories and bringing the heat. Al Clark was a Major League Baseball umpire for 30 years, working more than 3,000 games, including two All-Star Games, ten playoff series, and two World Series. We discuss his book, Called Out But Safe: A Baseball Umpire's Journey. The book was first published more than 10 years ago, but the stories are timeless and extremely entertaining. Al has been on the field for many historic games, including Nolan Ryan's 300th win, Cal Ripken's record breaker, and the 1989 World Series which will forever be remembered, not becuase of who won, but due to an earthquake. Al dealt with Earl Weaver, Billy Martin, and Dick Williams, all of whom were known for their harsh treamant of umpires. Hearing Al tell the story of his "fake" confrontation with Lou Piniella is worth the price of admission. Big Rome has taken his love and passion for barbecue and incorporated that into so many facets. He has created a line-up of barbecue rubs, does catering, makes entertaining cooking videos, and is a brand ambassador. He has also dabbled in the podcast space, creating a barbecue fire side chat for his fellow barbecue lovers, especially his Texas Barbecue Crew. Big Rome is a Los Angeles Dodgers fan and we discuss the team's World Series victory, the upcoming season, and other baseball talk. When they first met, Bacon was a 22-year old assistant hockey coach at Culver Academies, and Kevin Dean was the captain of one of the nation's best teams, and an AP history student. Dean went onto play 7 years in the NHL, and has since served as an assistant coach for five seasons with Boston and Chicago.Decades of pro hockey have taught Dean “high standards help you, not hurt you; the best players want you to coach them; and you have to be honest with your people, without being emotional.”In this episode Dean explains how he learned all this with great stories about Culver's Al Clark, and great NHL captains like New Jersey's Scott Stevens, Boston's Patrice Bergeron, and Chicago's Jonathan Toews.Be sure to join this fun, quick, and clever conversation. Al Clark comes back to the podcast to talk the second half of his career. Having left London and Virgin, Al embarked on a massively influential career in the Australian film industry. His films launched many an Australian star both in front of behind the camera. Here's the blurb from his second memoir: "Time Flies Too is the sequel to 2021's beguiling and absorbing memoir Time Flies by Al Clark, who in its last paragraph married and settled in Australia after a Spanish village childhood, a Scottish boarding school education and nearly two decades of living and working in London in the pioneering days of Virgin Records. These new recollections playfully explore his adjustment to life in a new country, the labyrinth involved in making films, the gifted collaborators he encountered along the way, and the work itself — notably one of Australia's most enduringly successful movies (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert ). It completes the journey of a solitary boy who fell in love with cinema, and of the man who strove to bring it to life."Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/writers-on-film. Hosted on Acast. Joe Battista led Penn State hockey to 6 ACHA national titles, then helped Penn State build an $88 million arena and join Big Ten hockey. A master of leadership and teamwork, his book Pragmatic Passion shows you how to “Dream big, keep it real, and make a plan.” I met Joe Battista at Culver Academies (Indiana) in the fall of 1986, when we were both assistant hockey coaches for the legendary Al Clark. Over lunch one day I asked him what he wanted to do after Culver. He said, “Go back to Penn State, become the head hockey coach, win some national titles, go varsity, and build a new rink.”This dream was crazy, since the Penn State hockey position hadn't even opened up. Yet, on October 11, 2013 – 27 years after that conversation – I watched from the glass as Battista, who had won six ACHA national titles as Penn State's head hockey coach, walked onto the ice at Penn State's brand new Pegula Arena, and dropped the puck for the ceremonial first faceoff before Penn State's varsity team played its first game in the Big Ten. It was hard not to get choked up, because I was watching a friend achieve every crazy dream he'd told me about 27 years earlier.Battista has funneled the wisdom he's gained about leadership, teamwork, and simply getting hard things done into a book, “Pragmatic Passion: 7 Common Sense Principles for Achieving Personal and Professional Success,” and a robust speaking career. We talk about all of that and more in today's podcast. Al Clark is an Australian film producer. He is best known for his producer role on The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and his executive producer role on the film, Chopper. Clark is also the author of four books. Time Flies and Time Flies Too are Clark's memoirs, which merge the early days of punk and new wave popular music with the truncated British film renaissance of the 1980s and the world of international film finance, and later chronicle his move to Australia and his work there. Clark's first book Raymond Chandler in Hollywood provides an insight into the work of the writer of detective fiction and includes interviews with many of the Hollywood figures who were associated with Raymond Chandler and his films. His second book Making Priscilla, also titled The Lavender Bus: How a Hit Movie Was Made and Sold, is a behind-the-scenes tale outlining the follies of film-making and how The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert became an international success.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/writers-on-film. The regime has changed. We know diversified portfolios are robust in a disinflationary world, as that is the regime that has prevailed for the past few decades. The recent poor performance of global equities (-14%) and bonds (-10%) in the year to June 2022 has highlighted that some portfolios may not be so robust in an inflationary world. Identifying assets with real cash flows that are resilient to inflation can help restore balance in a diversified portfolio, should the inflation environment remain volatile. The key is being able to access these asset classes in an innovative and flexible manner to deliver a more consistent return profile to clients. The future is definitely not what it used to be. - Watch Al Clark, MLC Asset Management on Portfolio Construction Forum and earn 0.50 CE/CPD hrs

MLB legendary Umpire Al Clark joins David tonight live to discuss Major League Baseball. Joey Jackson, Attorney and CNN Contributor discusses Robert Kraft, Lonzo Ball, Kristaps Porzingis, and more. Both David and Joey Jackson breakdown the legal questions relating to these matters for us to understand. A must listen. Relating to Robert Kraft, Joey Jackson says, "...looking at the good work he does, we have to look and see whether or not he committed this. Now defense attorneys – it’s our job to challenge evidence – that’s what we do, and in the event that evidence was gathered improperly or illegally then it gets thrown out. In this particular case I just don’t know that that is the case. The fact is that the police were conducting an investigation, based on my understanding, they were focusing on something that is really significant to all of us and that is human traffiking. Why – because it effects women, it effects children, and it effects just an evil that’s out there in terms of abducting and otherwise getting people under false pretences and then having them, unfortuantely, in these human traffiking rings. Relating to Lonzo Ball's lawsuit, Jackson says, “…I think that’s the story here, that his father hasn’t said much at all given the fact that his father is so vocal… “
