Welcome back to the Powerhouse Lawyers podcast! [00:00] The PHL community talks a lot about releasing ourselves from imposter syndrome and old versions of ourselves. Success starts when we decide to break free from the prisons of our mind and emotions. [00:30] Our guest today is Gary Miles. Lawyer, coach, and author of Breaking Free: A Guide to Achieving Personal and Professional Freedom as a Lawyer. [04:02] Gary's journey of breaking free started with releasing himself from people pleasing and learning to practice law in and out of sobriety. Joe Battista led Penn State hockey to 6 ACHA national titles, then helped Penn State build an $88 million arena and join Big Ten hockey. A master of leadership and teamwork, his book Pragmatic Passion shows you how to “Dream big, keep it real, and make a plan.” I met Joe Battista at Culver Academies (Indiana) in the fall of 1986, when we were both assistant hockey coaches for the legendary Al Clark. Over lunch one day I asked him what he wanted to do after Culver. He said, “Go back to Penn State, become the head hockey coach, win some national titles, go varsity, and build a new rink.”This dream was crazy, since the Penn State hockey position hadn't even opened up. Yet, on October 11, 2013 – 27 years after that conversation – I watched from the glass as Battista, who had won six ACHA national titles as Penn State's head hockey coach, walked onto the ice at Penn State's brand new Pegula Arena, and dropped the puck for the ceremonial first faceoff before Penn State's varsity team played its first game in the Big Ten. It was hard not to get choked up, because I was watching a friend achieve every crazy dream he'd told me about 27 years earlier.Battista has funneled the wisdom he's gained about leadership, teamwork, and simply getting hard things done into a book, “Pragmatic Passion: 7 Common Sense Principles for Achieving Personal and Professional Success,” and a robust speaking career. We talk about all of that and more in today's podcast. Today's guest, Nicole Sharp founded her company Griffin Consulting Partners in 2017. Though she formed the corporation, it wasn't until a few years ago that she decided to go full time and really work on the business. GCP offers solutions in the fed health space and work with companies looking to grow and get into the space. With the mission to combine analytical thinking and intuitive understanding to unleash the full potential of their customers by delivering uniquely tailored consultancy services that are research-based, practice-informed, and results-oriented. Her current clients include VA, military health services throughout DOD, State and local hospitals. Prior to founding her business Nicole worked at Accenture, B A H, and Kelly Services three large defense contractors. But it was her decision to quit her job and focus on growing her business that changed it all. For the first 6 months she did spend time with friends and simply focused on learning everything about the business. She created a vision board, set her 12 month, 5year and 10 year goals and went to work. What is so humbling about Nicole was that even after winning her first contract she wondered how she got here. If that seems like an all too familiar circumstance of imposter syndrome stay tuned to this episode to hear what she did next and how she overcame it. I hope that you enjoy this upcoming episode as we take you through the journey of one of our very own GovconEDU alumni.

Many people believe that achieving your goals is the epitome of success. However, what makes it more worthwhile is gaining personal growth along the way. Multifamily master https://rodkhleif.com/ (Rod Khleif) joins Keith Baker to tell his inspiring story of finding success and failure in real estate, teaching him to live larger than life and become strong whatever happens. He shares how writing down your specific goals helps a lot in gearing up for the challenges of life and how the feeling of gratitude allows you to manifest every goal you may have. Above all, Rod talks about finding a high level of self-fulfillment in giving back to society, sharing how he found a deeper purpose in feeding families every time the holiday season comes. --- Rod Khleif: Why Achieving Personal Growth Is More Important Than Goal-SettingI Finally Got To Interview Rod Khleif!I'm pumped up for this interview with https://rodkhleif.com/ (Rod Khleif). He is a multiple business owner and philanthropist who is passionate about real estate, business and giving back. As one of the country's top business, real estate and peak performance luminaries, Rod has owned over 2,000 homes and apartment buildings and has built over 24 businesses in his 40-year business career, several of which have been worth tens of millions of dollars. That's just a few of the reasons I sought out Rod to be on the show. As you read on, you'll understand why. Out of 120-plus episodes, this is the episode in which I say the least. Rod is captivating and inspirational, at least for me. I sat back and started taking notes because I forgot that I was conducting an interview. Rod's podcast, https://rodkhleif.com/Lifetime-Cashflow-Podcast/ (The Lifetime CashFlow Through Real Estate) is one of the first shows I listened to way back years ago. It inspired me to do my own. His show inspired me to also begin seeking knowledge and to understand multifamily investing, which is Rod's specialty. Let's go ahead and get down to the brass text of this show and to the interview with Rod Khleif. --- It's my distinct honor to welcome https://rodkhleif.com/ (Mr. Rod Khleif) to the show. Rod, welcome. Thanks. Let's have some fun, Keith. I know full well who you are. I want my audience to know who you are. I listened to Rod's podcast years ago as I'm coming up in my morning commute and it inspired me to do my show. Rod's podcast is https://rodkhleif.com/Lifetime-Cashflow-Podcast/ (The Lifetime CashFlow Through Real Estate). There's a lot of great information there. I'm excited and nervous. Rod, thank you so much. You honor me by coming on here. Thank you for your kind words. That means a lot to me. For those of you that don't know who I am, let me give you a little background on me and a story because it might help and inspire you. I immigrated to this country when I was six years old. I was born in the Netherlands, in Holland, wooden shoes and windmills. We ended up in Denver, Colorado. We didn't have much. I worked close in the Goodwill and the Salvation Army all the way through junior high school until I lied about my age to work at Burger King when I was fourteen, so I could buy my clothes. I remember growing up, we ate expired food and drank powdered milk because that's all we could afford. Luckily, my mom had an incredible work ethic. She babysat kids so we'd have enough money to eat and have a decent life. She was a bit of an entrepreneur as well. She invested in the stock market with her babysitting money. She also bought the house across the street from us when I was about fourteen. When I was seventeen, three years later, she told me she'd made $20,000 in her sleep. I'm like, “You made $20,000, it went up in value and you didn't do anything? Forget college. I'm getting into real estate.” I became a real estate broker when I turned eighteen. I'm an agent. I was a broker, which you could do back then with education. Now they got smart and you...

Many beliefs and mindsets are instilled in us growing up, which we probably continue to uphold even as adults. When Kelly took a trip down to the beach a few days ago, she found she wasn’t able to unplug and relax as easily as she’d been able to previously. This led to a bit of tension and frustration, namely toward herself for not making the most of a restorative opportunity. But Kelly also knows firsthand that resentment—be it toward yourself or other people—really only serves to build up negative energy until you either lash out or burn out. Forgiveness, as difficult as it might seem, is key to exorcizing these thoughts and moving on with your life. If you’re a high-functioning Type A and find yourself overanalyzing and unable to let go of past transgressions then this episode is for you. In this episode, Kelly helps you understand how resentment—even of the most justified variety—really only serves to make you wallow in anger and toxicity. She lays out a variety of tools and strategies you can use to deal with these negative feelings in a healthier manner, and also describes some of her own experiences with resentment and how she was able to move on from them. The Finer Details of This Episode: - Learning to view regrets and resentment as the wastes of energy that they are and moving on from decisions you can’t unmake. - Kelly’s video game analogy for understanding personal progress. - How holding onto negative vibes out of a misplaced desire to seek justice can build up and act as “spiritual constipation.” - Why resenting other people is effectively giving them power over you—and they aren’t even aware of it! - Kelly relates her own struggle to forgive someone who had wronged her deeply. - If you want to know what Kelly’s personal mantra is for grappling with intense feelings of resentment, send her a direct message at http://www.instagram.com/kellythealth - Don’t forget to schedule a quick chat with Kelly to learn more about her Ascend Mastermind at http://www.kellytravis.net/ascend! Quotes: “There is so much freedom in forgiveness—and that freedom leads to greater success.” “If you want to forgive others, you also have to forgive yourself.” “The beauty in life is that we always have a choice.” “Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have, and hurt people usually hurt people.” “It takes more courage to forgive than to hold a grudge.” Show Links: Kelly’s homepage - http://www.kellytravis.net Ascend Mastermind - http://www.kellytravis.net/ascend

In this episode of The Ready Room, I sit down with Joe Battista. Joe is a coach, mentor, motivational speaker, and author of "The Power of Pragmatic Passion: 7 Common Sense Principles for Achieving Personal & Professional Success” We discuss what it means to follow your heart, and whether it's possible to do so without severing all ties, and leaving yourself and family in financial straits. We ask the question: What truly defines happiness? We talk about why it is that two-thirds of American workers feel disengaged at their job. We discuss why civil discourse is so hard to find nowadays, and what we can do as individuals to improve that. We talk golf, old friends, new beginnings, and how you can follow your heart's desire with the right plan, the right people, and a healthy dose of pragmatism.

For the first 42 years of his life, Dallas was a guy who "wouldn't be caught dead" doing yoga, or anything like it.When he ruptured his L4 and L5 spinal discs during the height of his professional wrestling career, he was so desperate to keep his childhood dream alive, he was willing to try anything. So he tried yoga for the first time in his life.Because Dallas (DDP) had so much experience in many other areas of fitness, he quickly started mixing elements of yoga with his rehab and traditional calisthenics. For almost a decade, DDP has refined his program and has become a master at teaching it to others, as well as motivating individuals to believe that anything is possible with dedication and hard work.Along the way, Dallas learned that very deconditioned men and women could do DDP YOGA as well -- he was amazed to see stories of people doing DDP YOGA losing literally hundreds of pounds! As Dallas puts it, "weight loss just happens to be a really AWESOME side effect of DDP YOGA!"DDP Yoga combines the very best of yoga, old-school calisthenics, sports rehabilitation therapy and dynamic resistance to create one of the most effective fitness plans in existence today. It allows anyone to:Get a kick-ass cardio workoutIncrease flexibilityStrengthen core musclesExperience almost no joint impactWhat Makes DDPY Different Than Traditional Yoga and Other Fitness Programs? What separates DDP Yoga from all other kinds of yoga is not just that it is fronted by a celebrity, or that the program combines yoga positions and calisthenics with physical therapy principles, or even that it has an interactive app that lets its users do the workouts from anywhere, but that DDPY is something that anybody at any age or skill level can do. Unlike traditional yoga, DDP Yoga isn't just stretching, it's stretching and strengthening your muscles, ligaments, and tendons.DDP Yoga may have a strong celebrity following (e.g. Darius Rucker, Chris Jericho, A.J. Styles, Gabriel Iglesias), but the program is rooted in adaptability and “making it your own.” Finding the motivation to start doing DDPY is often the major hurdle for people, as it may entail trying things that were not originally part of their lifestyle. In addition to steadily completing the workouts, followers of DDPY are encouraged to reconsider their diets and overall attitude. When following all of these concepts, results are nearly guaranteed. Just ask military veteran Arthur Boorman , who previously walked with crutches and leg braces, or Jared Mollenkopf, who lost around 300 pounds in a little over a year.
