Episode 673 - What is My 2023 Word of the Year? Today is our last Monday Show until after the New Year is upon us! In keeping with tradition, I will share with you the word of the year, why it was chosen, and what I hope it will mean - even though we all know we find different lessons along the journey. I will also let you know what is happening during the time between Christmas and New Years for content. Livestream Schedule this week: Tuesday Live with John Willis and Ed Hubbell from IridiumSolutions.caLFTN Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGZgu0AKUSI Today's Sponsor: Paul Wheaton od Permies.com and Wheaton Labs https://permies.com/link/lftn Paul Wheaton has developed a truly passive greenhouse that can grow through the winter with no additional heating. Not only that, but it won't overheat in the summer months! How's that possible? Find out by watching the Truly Passive Greenhouse movie: https://permies.com/link/lftn Email feedback to nicole@livingfreeintennessee.com Tales from the Prepper Pantry Every Nook and Cranny in the deep freezers are stuffed, as is the fridge with things to cook (Managed to decommission the two outdoor appliances) Almost through the potatoes from the garden (had half a bushel) End of year restock is primarily complete Christmas Dinner from the pantry: Leg of lamb, roasted turnips and carrots, charcuterie and pickled things (Holler Neighbor Style) In purge mode for a last push before the end of the year - lost the crap, keep the things we use Weekly Shopping Report from Joe The first stop was Walgreen's for some vitamins. Stock was mostly good, but there was only one left of a large size of "D," so we had to choose another size in order to use their buy one get one free. Food City was next. Dry cat food was very limited, but they had a couple of 16 lb. bags of Meow Mix. They had a lot of Friskies boxed cans, so we added a box of those too. Dollar Tree was next. We found some large 9Lives cans in there for the first time in months, and grabbed a few; not all our cats like those. The frozen food coolers were really sparse and most of the drink coolers are back to being nearly empty; I think it's the worst I've seen it. The health aisle is beginning to look picked again, but most other areas looked well stocked; there were less unrefrigerated canned drinks though. Both of the two lines they had open extended back into the aisles. Same at Home Depot, which I ran in just to check the price of a 2x4x8. It's still $3.75. I did not look over any other areas, but it was fairly crowded, as spending season is at its peak. Aldi was last. We got a few extra things in case we decide to put off next week's shopping, but grocery crowds shouldn't be too bad, so we'll likely go. We found what we wanted, including heavy cream. I didn't see any notable holes, but both lettuce and grapes did not look as good as usual. Untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.999. Frugality Tip from Margo Here's a frugality tip on one of the most valuable things to me.....MY TIME (AND SANITY). For your holiday menu plan it out a month or so in advance. Gather the things you need and start cooking some things early and freeze it (and then take it out of the freezer the day before to thaw) Make sure you have all of the things you need the week before the holiday. I did not make rolls this year, I bought rolls and put them in the freezer, FYI Hawaiian rolls freeze and thaw very well. And save your sanity during the holidays and keep a stocked pantry y'all! Operation Independence The 3% checking account, emergency fund, and discipline Night Before Christmas Countdown Replay episode will not be replays - start your 2023 on the right foot. The importance of downtime. Main topic of the Show: What is my 2023 Word of the Year No year has ever been so hard as this year for finding the right word. Even last night, I knew the concept but not the word. Part of the problem is that I knew the concept I wanted but was not finding a single word to describe it. And the two word option I had was only a close fit, not the full breadth of what I wanted to focus on. What is a word of the year? Why do it? Past words: Grow (It is a choice and it is up to me) Balance (You have to want it and boundaries) Courage (The power of no. Letting go of insecurities. Sooner is better.) Then we have this year. I strove for MORE. I worked harder. I played harder. I undid every lesson I leaned in the year of balance. I GREW my businesses. I made it over a really important personal hump: Increased cash flow to where I could finally take some from the businesses. What the last five years have been like building LFTN and Holler Roast Coffee. Had to have the courage to Say no to things I was doing to earn money but that are distractions from the primary objective Address conflict head on Openly admit weaknesses Stand my ground Build personal talents from good to great Become unapologetic Where it has led - Priority on things that are important to me on the non business side like the food forest, redoing my bathroom, box seats at the symphony, hiking, relationships More opportunities of the kind I want I am singing rock n roll again Poised for fast growth The words that did not change: Step-change, 10x What it means Problem: Balance So what could I do? There is a glass ceiling that is not ok and I need to break it. It isnt due to my gender, my background, my level of education or what anyone thinks of me. It is there because of me. My mindset. My perception of what is possible. My hangups. The glass ceiling is of my own making. The worst part is this: It is glass so I can see through it. There are lots of reasons why it is there. Every one of them is an excuse. The other side of that glass ceiling looks great. I want to go there. But there is this glass ceiling that needs to be broken. And the cool thing about glass is that it will break. And 2023 is the year I break it. With whatever I can use to do so. My hands, a hammer, a rhinoceros, my head. Whatever it takes. For every word there is a flip side too: The sharp shards that will hit me as I make my way through the glass. I expect that to be there too. So my word of the year, which encompasses both the goal to move beyond my perceived constraints. The word that also prioritizes balance and priority to my spirit, body and heart. The word for 2023 is . I don't know exactly how things will go, but I am excited to start, have already started. And you will see the first steps in January This is the last non-interview podcast before the break so rather than our usual closing, I leave you with this - Make it a great break yall. GUYS! Are you on a spiritual journey right now? Chances are, if you are in your 30s or 40s, you have been on a spiritual journey of some sort, and maybe you still are going through the motions of it. As for me, my spiritual journey started here in Australia due to the “at-home time” I had during the pandemic so I had the space to dig deep. As for many of us, it caused us to pause and reevaluate our purpose in life. It was my desire to reconnect with my intuition and keep my head above the water if I wanted to make progress on my business. This brings me to this week's guest, Johnson Chong, the best-selling and award-winning author of Sage Sapien: From Karma to Dharma. Johnson is passionate about creating a bridge between ancient wisdom, energy medicine, and direct modern application. His unique experiences offer a profoundly healing self-discovery experience, followed by very practical and actionable steps to create lasting change. With his background as a teacher who trains yoga teachers and pilates teachers, Johnson has an expansive knowledge of the physical body and how the psyche can create stagnation on all levels – physical, mental, emotional, and energetic. Today, Johnson shares his shamanic wisdom to help us keep it all together in all the roles that we are playing in life – in the most authentic way possible. Whether you're a child of parents who are also on their own spiritual journey or maybe you have conflicting beliefs, this is definitely a great episode for you to listen to. Gain an appreciation for both your feminine and masculine sides and learn to reconnect with them. Share this with someone else who is also curious about the idea of doing inner work and its benefits on your life. As a mom, you do not want to let the spark of a business idea get caught in the undercurrent of motherhood. Johnson is a native New Yorker, has lived on three continents, and is currently based in Sydney, Australia. Highlights Mental state: Modern people have to make use of technology in healthy ways. To keep his mental state, Johnson uses a pulsed electromagnetic frequency device, which mirrors back high-functioning brainwave states. Spirituality: Your spiritual path is personal and one with huge benefits that can span generations. In my case, having this business led me to seek my spiritual path. Balance: You have both feminine and masculine energies inside of you and both are equally important. Navigating life requires both sides of you and if you are too tilted in one direction, your kids may compensate in the opposite to maintain the balance in your home. Taking risks: You can search for a safe job, choice, or relationship but then you may miss out on the adventure of taking a risk – and the risk could sometimes mean being true to yourself. Imagination: Deciding to be a mom was the biggest risk I took. Learning to reawaken my imagination and stay true to myself was essential in navigating all the ups and downs. Resilience: We have all experienced some level of discomfort, pain, or things that didn't turn out the way we wanted. And so, you have to practice getting good at knowing how to be okay in the storm and weather it. Focus: When you learn to focus your attention on the moment or on the different types of sensations in your body, you're learning extreme focus, which is necessary for all things in life. Purpose: We have to go back and sit with all of the pain, the hurt, as well as the things we never wanted and can't quite fully accept in the past before we can get to our life purpose. In order to enjoy more of life, you have to get deep and dirty in it. Lower and upper worlds: The spiritual journey is not just up there but also down there. From a shamanic perspective, you go into the lower world first before you go up into the upper world. Sacred feminine: When we're talking about meeting certain things within ourselves that are darker or we want to hide away, that's the sacred feminine. We're not wanting to confront that and we're denying a part of ourselves. Yin Yang: Masculine and feminine (not male and female) energies are more of the essence of a plus and a minus charge – masculine, being the plus charge of the battery; and feminine, as the minus charge of the battery. Both are necessary to make the battery work. (+) energy: Masculine energy is a giving, forward-giving energy. It's about direction. It is structured, mathematical, and philosophical. (–) energy: Feminine energy is wild, creative, sexual energy which you can channel into art or an enlightened state. Chaos: Anything that's chaotic and destroys the norm, or the way that we perceive the norm is the feminine force. We associate that as bad, but it's part of nature, just like a hurricane. Business: A masculine force is being a high achiever. But the world's top billionaires have experienced great losses. That's them risking diving into the feminine, which is the great unknown, and then they come back up. Rest: When the minus comes down, you now have the opportunity to rest, restore, read, and do things that are nourishing for yourself. It's winter break. Flow: Part of the spiritual journey is understanding these waves within ourselves, and then expressing that. Balance: Our job as human beings is to find the balance between masculine energy and feminine energy. Parents: A lot of immigrant families have a very masculine driving force. And so the kids have to have a structured life. So they have to learn to be okay with being vulnerable in public and being a bit messy. Toxic family: A toxic relationship is a toxic relationship, sometimes, you have to end it. We can't judge trauma because you never know how that inspires someone else. Pain: If you swallow your pain up and pretend it's not there, it's going to build into something toxic and your children may have to create some distance from you. Service: Every person, whatever their unique story is, has the capacity to make a choice of how to deal with their pain. You can take your pain and turn it into service and inspire you to help others. If you enjoyed this conversation, check out these episodes with similar themes: Michael A. Life comes at us fast. When our feet hit the ground in the morning there are many different ways that the day could unfold. It could go exactly as we would like it to, but often, unexpected things pop up throwing our day into turmoil. We can get control of our day when we realize that life works best when we have balance, control our expectations and practice purposeful planning.Balance: You need to have balance in your life. It is difficult to truly appreciate many things unless you have experienced the lack of or the opposite of them. It is hard to appreciate a calm day if you haven’t experienced a very busy one or a super social evening without having had quiet, home-bound evenings.Expectations: We need to remove the expectation that we shouldn’t come up against resistance. By realizing that we will always have barriers and that they are an expected part of the journey, we can reduce feelings of frustration when they pop up.Planning: Failing to plan is planning to fail. When life works best, we will have planned out our day. Ideally, starting out with something that fills our motivational tanks will set our day up in a positive way. This will look different for everyone, but examples would be exercise, meditation, or Bible study. Follow this by balancing out the “me” time with work time, kid time, home time etc. In a practical way we are set up for a perfect day. However, the best laid plans will never happen all of the time and this should never be our expectation. We should expect that life will throw us curve balls and we will need to be flexible and shift with whatever the day brings.Making specific plans for your week, and writing them down, can keep you from aimless, unproductive, unfulfilling days.ABC goal setting as suggested by Trish Blackwell in her Confidence Podcast. Make lists of you’re A, B and C goals.A goals – have to happen first, today or nowB goals – need to happen in a few days or weeksC goals – are important but have no sense of urgencyJournaling Questions:1. When was the last time you thoroughly reviewed your schedule? At first glance do you feel balanced in your life?2. When you hear the expression “saying yes to something, means saying no to something else” does this bring up any emotion for you?3. Do you have a method to your planning? Have you ever tried ABC goal setting?4. Do you have an expectation that you should never come up against resistance? If you could ever get past (fill in the blank) that it would then be smooth sailing?Homework:Your homework is to read back through your journaling questions and utilize this insight to make any changes you think you may need. Write out your wins and your barriers, you are not going to change everything in a week, but at least you now have a road map to where you are going!Goal setting will always be part of your homework. Once a week write down your focus or goals for the week. Every Friday reassess them, tweak them or change them to fit your needs. It’s “Your journey, your way”.Links:Lindsey House:www.healthaccountabilitycoach.comwww.facebook.com/houselifestylesDirection Not Perfection, Accountability and Coaching from your Wine-loving Dietitianhttps://braughlerbooks.com/store/books/direction-not-perfectionTrish Blackwellhttps://www.trishblackwell.com/?s=when+life+works+best
点击每期节目可以看到具体文稿内容How to do what you love and make good moneyBy Derek SiversThe problem:People with a well-paying job ask my advice because they want to quit to become full-time artists. But full-time artists ask my advice because they're finding it impossible to make money.(Let's define “art” as anything you do for expression, even just blogging or whatever.)The solution:For both of them, I prescribe the lifestyle of the happiest people I know:1. Have a well-paying job2. Seriously pursue your art for love, not moneyThe ingredients:Balance:You've heard about balancing heart and mind, or right-brain left-brain, or whatever you want to call it.We all have a need for stability and adventure, certainty and uncertainty, money and expression.Too much stability, and you get bored. Not enough, and you're devastated. So keep the balance.Do something for love, and something for money. Don't try to make one thing satisfy your entire life.In practice, then, each half of your life becomes a remedy for the other. You get paid and get stability for part of your day, but then need creative time for expression. So you push yourself creatively, expose your vulnerable darlings to the public, feel the frustration of rejection and apathy, and then long for some stability again. Each half a remedy for the other.968重庆之声每周一至周五8点56分每天三分钟养成良好英语听说习惯

Have you ever experienced vertigo? What are the causes of dizziness? Dr. Kimberley Bell, DPT has been a Physical Therapist for nearly 15 years, and she specializes in helping people with dizziness. She assesses and treats vertigo, dizziness, and imbalance in people of all ages. She also helps with other issues thought to be related to aging as well. I brought her on the show to talk about the causes of dizziness, and also some potential treatments that can help. What is Balance? You might have heard of the five senses. These five senses are hearing, taste, sight, smell, and touch. But there is another sense that we don't talk about. That is the sense of balance. Without it, you wouldn't be able to sit or stand upright because you wouldn't be able to tell which way “up” was. And you couldn't tell where “here or “there” was. Without a sense of balance, gravity, wouldn't mean anything. It would be fair to say that without any sense of balance, life would be unimaginably disabling.1 Dr. Bell was a wealth of information, especially if you know someone, or you are personally experiences vertigo, equilibrium problems, or the like. She told a story of a client who had experienced vertigo since she was 56 years old. This person had CT scans, MRIs, and cardiac testing to try to find the causes of dizziness. Dr. Bell did an assessment and found crystals in her inner ear. BPPV, or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, occurs when a patient has crystals in her inner ear. It's the most common cause of vertigo, which is that feeling of spinning that some people get. This feeling is not life-threatening (unless you fall and hit your head!). It comes on suddenly and is usually brief. You can trigger BPPV when you hold your head a certain way or move your head a certain way. And of course, its a type of vertigo, or a false sense of movement. Oh, and by the way, it can sometimes be cured by the right therapist. As a matter of fact, Dr. Bell was able to solve her patient's problem (in the story above) in just a few visits. Why can't my doctor find what my causes of dizziness are? Many physicians don't know how to diagnose it, and they are also not trained in how to solve the problem. Many don't know the causes of dizziness in their patients. The difficulty of making the right vestibular diagnosis is reflected in the fact that in some populations, more than one-third of the patients with a vestibular disease consult more than one physician – in some cases up to more than fifteen.2 Not only that but one recent large epidemiological study estimates that as many as 35% of adults aged 40 years or older in the United States—approximately 69 million Americans—have experienced some form of vestibular dysfunction 3 Dr. Bell shares a story in her blog: Since February 21, the medical care that I have personally received has caused me to experience vertigo anytime I chew solid food. This was never a problem before. Obviously, I’m not still working with that healthcare provider whose treatment worsened my symptoms, but recovering from the harmful results of the care that I received has taken me now over six weeks. My symptoms have been so bad that my husband has taken off work one or two days every week in order to take care of me. If I didn’t have him, I’m sure I would’ve had to hire a caregiver by now! I’ve been living with mild to severe vertigo off and on since I was five years old, after my first childhood concussion.4 Dr. Bell shares a lot of information in the episode.
I must admit, the idea of a cannabis cocktail did not initially sound appealing. I imagined a couple of buds thrown into a shaker with some vodka that resulted in a grassy, leafy swill that left you zonked.Warren Bobrow has another idea, and it all begins with his passion for quality ingredients and a deep knowledge of how to use cannabis to enhance the effects. He came to our studio shaker and stirrers in hand to show his stuff, and despite our skepticism, the results were impressive. The podcast will give you lots of details, but “The Cocktail Whisperer,” as he unapologetically refers to himself, has boiled down his methodology to three key elements:1. Prep your bud. Bobrow uses decarboxylation (a chemistry term for heating) to convert the THCa and other oils from the plant into a bio-available form. Old school decarb was as simple as heating cannabis for about 40 minutes in 240 degree oven. Today, Bobrow uses a nifty device from Ardent to easily and efficiently decarb his bud.2. Balance: You’ve got to be careful mixing cannabinoids and alcohol, so go slow. Also, keep them crisp and not too sweet—the sugar in cocktails can cause a lot of trouble.3. Use high-quality craft spirits. This is as essential to a delicious cocktail as the supplementary ingredients that Bobrow renders by hand. He squeezes his own ginger juice, for example, and concocts his own bitters. This pursuit requires a demented amount of dedication, but if you’re throwing a party this is one way to make it memorable. This podcast will fill you in on all the details.
