Ever wonder why you still know every word to a jingle from the '80s? In this episode of The Music in Me, I take you on a fun, nostalgic trip through the catchiest and most unforgettable commercial jingles of all time. From the very first Wheaties tune in 1926 to cultural hits like “I Want My Baby Back Ribs,” “Meow Meow Meow Meow,” and yes—even the love-it-or-hate-it “Kars-4-Kids”—we'll explore the songs that got stuck in our heads and changed advertising forever. Plus I share a hilarious personal story about creating her own jingle in college (spoiler: her family still remembers it). We'll also look at how jingles evolved into today's sonic branding, and why these little earworms are still so powerful. So, get ready to laugh, sing along, and maybe get a tune or two stuck in your head.JINGLES MENTIONED...Wheaties - "Try Wheaties" credited as the 1st radio commercial jingleCoca Cola - "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke"Nationwide Insurance - "Nationwide is on Your Side"Kit Kat - "Gimme a Break"Folgers Coffee - "The Best Part of Waking Up"Alka-Seltzer - "Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz"State Farm - "Like a Good Neighbor"Oscar Mayer Bologna - "My Bologna Has a First Name"Chilis - "I Want My Baby Back Ribs"Kars4Kids - "1-877-Kars-4-Kids"Meow Mix - "Meow, meow, meow, meow"Toys "R" Us - "I Don't Wanna Grow Up, I'm a Toys "R" Us Kid"What did you think of this episode? Can we interest you in a catfood burger? Day 2 of The NYS Fair is gonna be a busy one. Some sad, personal news from Josh. What do we all think about the phone ban coming to schools? Plus so much more on a Thursdee!
Greatest hits episode! This conversation was first shared in 2023, and this is what I had to say about it: One of the things that I've noticed is fairly common in people who come out later in life is just how much of a hurry they are in to experience ALL of the queer shit they've missed out on...And that is what happened to this week's guest, podcaster and voice-over artist Phil Corin, who, upon realising that they may not be heterosexual was on a mission to make their way to the New York City lesbian bar Meow Mix (1996 - 2004). And once they got in to the bar? Well, the gloves were off, but you'll have to listen to the episode to find out the whole story...In this episode we chat all about coming out tactics, lesbian pulp fiction, and.... our complicated feelings about single-gender spaces... Today, I take your questions in an old-school LFTN Variety Show: Pickling beets, more about our new farmstand, how to prioritize what you grow in your smaller garden space, how to prioritize your time on the homestead and more. We will also cover our usual Monday segments. Featured Event: River and Imanee's Solstice Meetup at Haven Villiage, June 21 - I will be making cheese in case you want to come see that. Sponsor 1: DiscountMylarBags.com Sponsor 2: The Wealthsteading Podcast, InvestableWealth.com Tales from the Prepper Pantry 20 quarts of extra tomato sauce from last year Initiating canning season with round one of pickling Drying herbs from the garden on rotation - adding it to the homestead store Preparing meatloafs in advance while also cooking them for now Weekly Shopping Report Dollar Tree was first. The drink selection always changes, but there was plenty of stock. That's all we needed in there this time, after adding a variety of storage containers and the like, and minor health items over the past several weeks. The online price of a 2x4x8 stud at Home Depot is still $3.85. Aldi was last. We found everything we wanted. There have been a number of price changes since the last report, but nothing dramatic. Egg and milk prices have definitely come down. Staple prices were: bread (20 oz. white): $1.39; eggs: $3.46 (-); whole milk: $2.66 (-); heavy cream: $5.29; OJ: $4.25 (+); butter: $3.75 (+); bacon: $3.99; potatoes: $4.39; sugar: $3.29 (+); flour: $2.35; and 80% ground beef: $4.69 (+). I may make an additional trip tomorrow to Walgreens as I recently opened my last melatonin, and I want another wrist brace. I will likely also stop at the adjacent Food City for another bag of Meow Mix (that our cats ask for by name). Untainted regular gasoline at Weigels is still $3.59/gallon. Frugality Tip from Margo Down here in Florida we are getting ready for the Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. For two weeks we get to purchase things such as batteries, coolers, tarps, radios, fuel tanks, and generators and not have to pay sales tax. We are currently in the market for a new generator and we are going to save about $100 buying that during this break. So look up your states tax holidays and see what you can purchase during them and save some money. Happy Savings y'all Main topic of the Show: A variety show Tina in Arkansas asks: “I've got more beets than we can eat—how do you preserve them? Nicole Sauce's Pickled Beet Recipe 1/4 bushel beets makes about seven quarts Brine: 1/2 cup pickling or kosher salt 5.5 cups 5% vinegar 6 cups water Per quart jar spice mix (add to jar) 2 heads dill weed 2-4 cloves garlic 1-2 hot peppers (cayenne or jalapeno) 6 peppercorns Process method: Cold pack Process time: 20 minutes for pints, 25 minutes for quarts (wait 6 weeks before eating so everything tastes well blended) Aunt Helen's Beet Pickles with an extra step (Courtesy of Mama Sauce) 1/4 bushel beets makes about 10 pints. Brine (make enough batched to cover beets) 1 qt vinegar (5% acidity) 6 c sugar 2 TBSP salt (plain, kosher, or pickling: may not be iodized) 2 tsp pickling spice Lots of beets Boil beets in water. Skin and slice more thinly than for a regular pickled beet: say 1/8” or thinner. Pack in glass container or containers. Keep track of how many beets you've pickled (for backpack portion control.) Bring brine to boil. Completely cover beets. If you plan to eat these without further processing, pack and seal in wide-mouth Mason jars in the usual fashion. If you plan to dehydrate, why not pickle in a single glass bowl? Cover and let pickle for 2 weeks. Then you can eat or dehydrate them. To dehydrate: Drain beets. You can save and reuse the pickling solution a time or two before you should dump it and make fresh, so you can run successive batches. Today I'm fired up from the Spring Workshop and a pretty fantastic concert we had yesterday with my choir in Cookeville, tn. We will share the stories, the people, the late-night brainstorms, the amazing food, and yes... the sea sponges. If you've never been to one, this episode will be a fun listen and if you have - I hope you enjoy the journey through LFTN25. Weekly Shopping Report I made a trip on Tuesday to Food City for a couple of bags of flour and a 22 lb. bag of Meow Mix (that our cats ask for by name); and Walgreens for the goop I put in my eye at night (“Stye”) so it doesn't dry out. Only the first Tuesday in the month is Walgreens' “senior day,” when Grumpy Old Men (and women) get a discount. For our usual trip, the weather gave us a clear stretch amidst the bands of heavy rain on Thursday. Most people must have decided to wait, as there was little traffic. Dollar Tree was first. They're finally out of the big non-carbonated Monsters I was getting, but there were plenty of other choices. Stock levels throughout the store looked good. Sonia has been able to find some craft items in there lately. We also went to Hobby Lobby for some acrylic paint. We didn't walk around the whole store looking at other stock, but I didn't see empty sections or anything else odd. Things may change with the tariffs on Dragon Country, but not yet. They were “normal-busy” with a short wait to check out. The online price of a 2x4x8 stud at Home Depot is still $3.85. Aldi was last. We found everything we wanted. Staple prices were: bread (20 oz. white): $1.39; eggs: $4.97; whole milk: $2.92; heavy cream: $5.29; OJ: $4.09; butter: $3.49 (-); bacon: $3.99; potatoes: $4.39; sugar: $2.99; flour: $2.35; and 80% ground beef: $4.59. Untainted regular gasoline at Weigels is still $3.59/gallon. Operation Independence I had a great conversation with John Pugliano this week that's helping bring clarity to the next big project here at the Holler. I'm still sorting out the details, but it's one of those moments where a few things click into place, and you realize what really needs to happen next. Hint: It starts with some RV spots. Main Topic: Behind the Scenes at the LFTN Spring Workshop Today I want to pull back the curtain on what really makes the Spring Workshop special—not the agenda, not the official sessions, but the stuff that makes it unforgettable. Glenn's Rum – He always shows up with something we've never tried. This year? It was memorable. Let's just leave it at that. Carnivore Scotch Duck Eggs – Y'all, the food. This isn't your standard workshop fare. It's duck eggs. It's bacon. It's food that fuels you for real work. Alan Booker measuring brix – Alan showed me how to measure brix in my plants, gave me a compliment, then called my leaves "aphid food." And you know what? He was right. Patrick Roehrman's precision strike – My one-of-a-kind MT Knives kitchen knife got used to slice a carpenter bee out of the air. No, really. While it was flying. Emily Zanotti Skyles and the plantain spit war – She left fired up about wild edibles. Her kids? They took that knowledge and turned it into backyard ammo. The greenhouse swim spa debate – We planned to function-stack a greenhouse over the swim spa… and ended up realizing Nicole just needs to bury her electrical lines already. Ian's moment – On his way home, Ian stopped by his family land and decided: it's time. That's the kind of clarity these weekends bring. John Pugliano and Meshtastic – He helped all of us finally understand how Meshtastic works—and why it matters. Leos' pop-up blacksmithing – Did I mention we had a surprise forge session? Because of course we did. Glenn's hamburgers – Day one. Fire. Flavor. No notes. Gavin and the birds – Gavin wandered through the holler like a nature monk with binoculars, pointing out the birds we miss every day. Jack Spirko's bioreactor breakthrough – Sometimes the right fencing and weed cloth are all it takes to spark a better compost design. Community eggs – Between scotch eggs, scrambles, and three separate egg suppliers, we fed the holler crew with ease—and had leftovers. Late-night wrestling matches – You know who you are. I won't name names… this time. Pocket door rescues – Multiple saves were made, but one prepper decided to handle it solo. Mad respect. The sea sponges – If you know, you know. And finally—YOU – The participants. Every single person showed up not just to learn, but to help each other figure out their next chapter. So why haven't you taken your shot? Is it the money? The time? The fear of people? Or do you just think you're not good enough? If it is that last one, take a good hard look at that because you are. You are good enough. You deserve to build your dream. And you can do it - it may look different when you get there than you thought it would, but you can go further - but it takes hard work, strong community and it takes being a DOER. Make it a great week, GUYS! Don't forget about the cookbook, Cook With What You Have by Nicole Sauce and Mama Sauce. My guest this week is Shelly Palmer, who's an award winning composer, inventor, author, educator and a leading voice in technology. He is also an expert in Ai and it's integration into the workplace. Shelly began his career as a composer for television, working with hundreds of brands, agencies, broadcasters, publishers and tech platforms on advertising and marketing campaigns such as Meow Mix, Burger King and The City of Las Vegas. He was honored at ASCAP's 13th Annual Film and Television Awards in the category of “Most Performed Television Themes.” He holds a patent for the underlying technology for Enhanced Television that's used by programs such as ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and ESPN's Monday Night Football, which led him to pivot his career into technology. He is currently a Professor of Advanced Media in Residence at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and CEO of The Palmer Group, a consulting practice that helps Fortune 500 companies with technology, media and marketing. Shelly also covers tech and business for Fox 5 New York, and is a regular commentator for CNN and CNBC, and he offers a series of free technology courses via his Metacademy. During our interview we spoke about growing up in a music store, how a used synthesizer got him into the jingle business, how one of his patents took him from music into the world of technology, why AI is a skills amplifier, and so much more. By the way, I learned a lot about AI from Shelly's free Metacademy, which is something that you should check out. I spoke with Shelly from his studio in New York City. On the intro I looked at how the RIAA's recent revenue numbers might be misleading.

Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera. Frank says he is more comfortable on Diva Daylight Time. Frank was reminded of Kathryn when he heard a mention of Sazerac cocktails and when he used an empty whiskey bottle as a flower vase. In last Tuesday's Einstein Simplified show, Frank was in a singing game called Three-Headed Broadway Star. Jessica Brackeen, Sara Grace Peglow, and Frank each sang one word at a time. Kathryn's upstairs air conditioning unit isn't working properly. She thinks the repairman has not been up to the attic, where he would see the creepy painting of a child that has been there since before Kathryn and her husband moved in. She discussed it a year and a half ago in podcast episode 0025, “Attic Painting Ghost Girl” which can be seen at https://youtu.be/uP019i2sjNY Kathryn asked Frank to record a video of Marble City Opera's “Stalactites, Sopranos, and Stilettos" concert in order to make fifteen-second clips for social media. Frank recorded the entire one-hour concert rather than be responsible for choosing which fifteen seconds to record. Frank enjoyed the performance of Rossini's "Duetto buffo di due gatti” (The Cat Duet), which Kathryn rearranged as a trio to sing with Jacquie Brecheen and April Hill. A brief video clip is included. Frank tried to AirDrop the one-hour video to Kathryn but there wasn't enough memory on her iPhone. He offered to show her how to go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage, Messages, Review Large Attachments and then delete a few files but she wanted no part of it. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. You can also get several of Sam Venable's books, signed by the author and the new book by former UT counsel Ron Leadbetter. Dr. Bill Bass turns 95 on August 30, which is also “Missy Barrett Day: A Day to Do Good Deeds.” Frank received a Facebook message from the fictional character that said: “So, Mr. Frank, are you going to help out on International Missy Barrett Day: A Day To Do Good Deeds on Wednesday, August 30th by doing more good deeds than usual and telling people why you're doing more good deeds than usual and asking them to do more good deeds than they usually do?” Learn more at https://missybarrett.wordpress.com/ At a Marble City Opera production at the Old City Performing Arts Center, Frank and his wife sat behind an older woman who could not access the electronic program on her phone. Kathryn loaned her iPad to the woman, who accidentally tapped the messages icon. Frank could see that she was now reading a text conversation between Kathryn and Frank. Kathryn heard from a friend that their high school band was having a reunion. The friend told Kathryn that there is a private Facebook group with many photos, including several that include Kathryn. She makes Frank try to find her in three group photos. Subscriber April wore her Frank & Friends Show bucket hat to the “Stalactites, Sopranos, and Stilettos" concert. One of the things that I've noticed is fairly common in people who come out later in life is just how much of a hurry they are in to experience ALL of the queer shit they've missed out on... And that is what happened to this week's guest, podcaster and voice-over artist Phil Corin, who, upon realising that they may not be heterosexual was on a mission to make their way to the New York City lesbian bar Meow Mix (1996 - 2004). And once they got in to the bar? Well, the gloves were off, but you'll have to listen to the episode to find out the whole story... In this episode we chat all about coming out tactics, lesbian pulp fiction, and.... our complicated feelings about single-gender spaces... Do you have any memories of Meow Mix, or maybe a bar or a club from your own scene that you want to share? Well, if you have please get in touch - I want to create the biggest online record of people's memories and stories - go to www.lostspacespodcast.com and find the section 'Share a Lost Space' and tell me what you got up to! We took our first trip on Sunday, which is different than our usual time on Saturday. This could affect stock levels, depending on store schedules, however I saw no large changes that could mean a deeper problem. Traffic was rather heavy; I'd have thought it would be lighter on Sunday. It did not look like churchgoers, at least not dressed in their "Sunday Best." Dollar Tree was first. They were looking a little unkempt. Stock levels didn't look too different, but were a little lower in some shelves in the food aisles. Other than some browsing, I think I just grabbed a drink in there. Home Depot was next. The store was weekend-busy. There was plenty of stock all around. A 2x4x8 remains at $3.35. Aldi was next. We found everything we wanted, including heavy cream. While I didn't see any new price jumps, the bill was certainly higher than it used to be. Food City was last. I got one of only three 16 lb. bags of Meow Mix (that our kitties ask for by name), a box of Friskies cans, and a 2-pack of waste-free peanut butter. Just that was $61. Maybe we should get some Vaseline... Today's trip included Walgreens and Weigels (gas). Walgreens is affiliated with Kroger. Think convenience-store pricing but a larger selection. Two sections of coolers were covered, indicating new products coming soon. I was there for Rx; we don't get food there, but it would be a backup backup source if things got desperate. A gallon of untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.999. Frugality Tip from Janet I have one of these and it works for more than just ketchup; I use it for shampoo and anything else that will fit. https://www.amazon.com/Barproducts-com-Inc-KS-Ketchup-Saver/dp/B00FG8S1NO Operation Independence Pretty sure “Tweedle Dum” (T calls her Amy I believe) is going to give birth this week Main topic of the Show: The Break in Breakthrough What is the word of the year Why do I do it How to Find Your Wod of the Year What is the TRAP of each word Why I chose Breakthrough Q1 Lesson: BREAK - as in shatter all the things House breaks Relationship breaks and boundaries Personal, internal break Awareness of breaking in the world The OTHER kind of Break What I am doing about it Well, what CAN I DO? Episode 673 - What is My 2023 Word of the Year? Today is our last Monday Show until after the New Year is upon us! In keeping with tradition, I will share with you the word of the year, why it was chosen, and what I hope it will mean - even though we all know we find different lessons along the journey. I will also let you know what is happening during the time between Christmas and New Years for content. Livestream Schedule this week: Tuesday Live with John Willis and Ed Hubbell from IridiumSolutions.caLFTN Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGZgu0AKUSI Today's Sponsor: Paul Wheaton od Permies.com and Wheaton Labs https://permies.com/link/lftn Paul Wheaton has developed a truly passive greenhouse that can grow through the winter with no additional heating. Not only that, but it won't overheat in the summer months! How's that possible? Find out by watching the Truly Passive Greenhouse movie: https://permies.com/link/lftn Email feedback to nicole@livingfreeintennessee.com Tales from the Prepper Pantry Every Nook and Cranny in the deep freezers are stuffed, as is the fridge with things to cook (Managed to decommission the two outdoor appliances) Almost through the potatoes from the garden (had half a bushel) End of year restock is primarily complete Christmas Dinner from the pantry: Leg of lamb, roasted turnips and carrots, charcuterie and pickled things (Holler Neighbor Style) In purge mode for a last push before the end of the year - lost the crap, keep the things we use Weekly Shopping Report from Joe The first stop was Walgreen's for some vitamins. Stock was mostly good, but there was only one left of a large size of "D," so we had to choose another size in order to use their buy one get one free. Food City was next. Dry cat food was very limited, but they had a couple of 16 lb. bags of Meow Mix. They had a lot of Friskies boxed cans, so we added a box of those too. Dollar Tree was next. We found some large 9Lives cans in there for the first time in months, and grabbed a few; not all our cats like those. The frozen food coolers were really sparse and most of the drink coolers are back to being nearly empty; I think it's the worst I've seen it. The health aisle is beginning to look picked again, but most other areas looked well stocked; there were less unrefrigerated canned drinks though. Both of the two lines they had open extended back into the aisles. Same at Home Depot, which I ran in just to check the price of a 2x4x8. It's still $3.75. I did not look over any other areas, but it was fairly crowded, as spending season is at its peak. Aldi was last. We got a few extra things in case we decide to put off next week's shopping, but grocery crowds shouldn't be too bad, so we'll likely go. We found what we wanted, including heavy cream. I didn't see any notable holes, but both lettuce and grapes did not look as good as usual. Untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.999. Frugality Tip from Margo Here's a frugality tip on one of the most valuable things to me.....MY TIME (AND SANITY). For your holiday menu plan it out a month or so in advance. Gather the things you need and start cooking some things early and freeze it (and then take it out of the freezer the day before to thaw) Make sure you have all of the things you need the week before the holiday. I did not make rolls this year, I bought rolls and put them in the freezer, FYI Hawaiian rolls freeze and thaw very well. And save your sanity during the holidays and keep a stocked pantry y'all! Operation Independence The 3% checking account, emergency fund, and discipline Night Before Christmas Countdown Replay episode will not be replays - start your 2023 on the right foot. The importance of downtime. Main topic of the Show: What is my 2023 Word of the Year No year has ever been so hard as this year for finding the right word. Even last night, I knew the concept but not the word. Part of the problem is that I knew the concept I wanted but was not finding a single word to describe it. And the two word option I had was only a close fit, not the full breadth of what I wanted to focus on. What is a word of the year? Why do it? Past words: Grow (It is a choice and it is up to me) Balance (You have to want it and boundaries) Courage (The power of no. Letting go of insecurities. Sooner is better.) Then we have this year. I strove for MORE. I worked harder. I played harder. I undid every lesson I leaned in the year of balance. I GREW my businesses. I made it over a really important personal hump: Increased cash flow to where I could finally take some from the businesses. What the last five years have been like building LFTN and Holler Roast Coffee. Had to have the courage to Say no to things I was doing to earn money but that are distractions from the primary objective Address conflict head on Openly admit weaknesses Stand my ground Build personal talents from good to great Become unapologetic Where it has led - Priority on things that are important to me on the non business side like the food forest, redoing my bathroom, box seats at the symphony, hiking, relationships More opportunities of the kind I want I am singing rock n roll again Poised for fast growth The words that did not change: Step-change, 10x What it means Problem: Balance So what could I do? There is a glass ceiling that is not ok and I need to break it. It isnt due to my gender, my background, my level of education or what anyone thinks of me. It is there because of me. My mindset. My perception of what is possible. My hangups. The glass ceiling is of my own making. The worst part is this: It is glass so I can see through it. There are lots of reasons why it is there. Every one of them is an excuse. The other side of that glass ceiling looks great. I want to go there. But there is this glass ceiling that needs to be broken. And the cool thing about glass is that it will break. And 2023 is the year I break it. With whatever I can use to do so. My hands, a hammer, a rhinoceros, my head. Whatever it takes. For every word there is a flip side too: The sharp shards that will hit me as I make my way through the glass. I expect that to be there too. So my word of the year, which encompasses both the goal to move beyond my perceived constraints. The word that also prioritizes balance and priority to my spirit, body and heart. The word for 2023 is . I don't know exactly how things will go, but I am excited to start, have already started. And you will see the first steps in January This is the last non-interview podcast before the break so rather than our usual closing, I leave you with this - Make it a great break yall. GUYS! A poisonous cat climbs into the body of another cat, escapes onto a crime yacht with some sexy coeds and proceeds to commit its own vigilantism. Its full on cat justice! So let's get to the point - Uninvited is sheer ridiculousness. Its a GREAT bad movie. Every aspect of this thing is exactly what you're signing up for, especially if you like baffling and non-frightening movie monsters. Plus you've stacked all that with Stinker hall of famers Greydon Clark, George Kennedy and Clu Galager. Supplementing the cast is a very hot and totally 80's fashioned Clare Carey that went on to be the wife of Coach. Damn you Craig T. Nelson!!!! So the cat - its very unclear on what the cat is. Best we can piece together is that there is a cat with a chip on its shoulder from being medically experimented on, gains some super powers, finds another cat and crawls inside it to disguise itself as just a precious little housecat so that it can get the Meow Mix. It's just a total misunderstanding that the cat is a monster - it's just out there enacting cat justice against some really bad people. Leave the experiment kittie alone! It just wants a nice home like we all do, dammit! Instead, 3 Garys find a couple bang ladies who have access to a yacht owned by an embezzling (?) villain and his man mountain henchmen/business partner. On the way to the Caymans, the cat breaks the boat (loud noises pisses cats off) and so they get picked off one by one for just being horrible people (except Clare Carey - she gets a pass for being too hot). Once the climax begins, buckle in because its one of the most ridiculous and hilarious endings in bad movie history. This isn't just a do, its a mega do.

Once in a while, we reach into the THN mailbag and discover a letter of such exquisite abhorrence that we set our delicate egos aside and grant a listener center stage as Epistolary First Chair of Hate. Such is the case with poor Steven of Urbandale, Illinois, who at the local grocery store recently battled Handicapped Hilda plus an army of social workers and police officers for the honor of his self-soiled elderly mother. (Shh. Don't tell anyone that Steven keeps his ma locked in the back 40 shed and only feeds her Meow Mix.) Co-host Arik follows this G.O.A.T. Hate Letter—only to be upstaged by sound engineer Pauly from Bali's carafe o' beer. Arik wades through the suds, then tells a St. Patrick's Day rideshare horror tale of drunken zombie college students, who, just the night prior, attacked his poor Kia and left him for dead, whilst Officer Doolittle and his assistant Brenda whistled Dixie and gave each other pedis. THN PSA: Please don't mob-kill your Uber driver, even if he's not wearing green. Also, thanks for nothing, St. Patrick. You just had to return to the island of your tormenters to show them Jesus. Just so you know, so many centuries later, all it resulted in was an SUV mirror getting whacked by a four-sheets-to-the-wind freshman, and the near drawing and quartering of a perfectly innocent cabbie. So, Paddy, thank you for bringing the world one step closer to “The Purge.” Pauly from Bali next directs our attention toward proper disgust: with the world on the verge of a major extinction moment, why the holy bleep are restaurants and cafes providing takeaway materials to in-house guests?! Also, we don't need 8 million plastic straws for our beverages! Are you trying to make the Pacific Garbage Patch bigger than the Great Red Spot on Jupiter?! THN PSA 2: The only time you need a bloody straw is for a coconut. Period. End of story! Today we learn that dogs will usually sneeze when they're feeling playful, so it's usually a good sign! Unless they inhaled a bunch of oak pollen like the rest of us, then it's just a regular sneeze. But, for the most part, it's a fun thing! Yay! Dogs! Fun! Listen in for more interesting facts on this episode's Did You Know segment. CJ has to eat cat food for this week's Sports Bet punishment. How well does he handle it? Well, listen in and find out. Or you could watch us live @JustMattandCJ when we do these things. Whatever. Up to you. Just giving you options, baby. Also, CJ brought Matt and Spenny his new Easter Sandwich creation that he first mentioned in last episode. Is it garbage or is it good? Matt and Spenny put their taste buds to the test. FOR SCIENCE! There's more, but I'm tired. My fingers hurt. I yearn for rest. Farewell. Shortage on Meow Mix 12/14/2021
There's always been an unspoken attitude in the world of social media and now in influence marketing that advertising, or at least its philosophies and priorities, does nothing but muck everything up. Social media, and it's immediate by-product of influencers and thus influence marketing, was, in essence, a way for consumers to push back against advertising. We were tired of brands just yelling their messages at us all the time and not listening, as well. Markets are conversations, said the Cluetrain. So forgive me for the soap box, but that kind of biases a lot of us to think that someone with that advertising background is out of place in the world of influencer marketing. At least so the stereotype would tell you. But Justin Kline is not a stereotypical anything. He started out managing ads for the Drudge Report, then managing the placement of ads for the sharing app Add This. So he sees the world of advertising form multiple perspectives. Nowadays, Justin runs Markerly, an influencer marketing agency that takes his experiences in the advertising world to advise and deploy attention-getting campaigns for clients. Markerly and Justin came to my attention when they ran the Meow Mix Remix campaign for the cat food brand and engaged pet influencers on TikTok and other channels to help re-think how Meow Mix is thought of by consumers. I asked him to join us to take us through the irony of an ad guy now running a firm on the influencer side of things, what it's like to work with pet influencers and much more. I love bringing different perspectives to the table for our discussions and this is certainly one of them. Today's episode is sponsored by Tagger. It is a complete influencer marketing solution. You can find out more for yourself at jason.online/tagger. We've been talking recently to Meredith Jacobson, an independent influencer marketing consultant who was on a past episode of the show, to tell you about how she uses Tagger with We are Boosters. MEOW MIX X NEVER SETTLE - Episode 266
Country music songwriter and Old Dominion frontman Matt Ramsey comes by the cellar to catch up with Phil and share stories from early in his career. He reminisces on his first trip to Nashville, brought by Phil's sister, and getting to see some of his songwriting idols perform at The Bluebird before meeting Phil at the same cellar they're recording this episode in. They connect over the importance of honing the songwriting craft, as the greatest success lies in the greatest songs. Ramsey shares stories of meeting his country music heroes early in Old Dominion's career, including both comedic and generous run ins with Charlie Daniels and Trace Adkins. He performs one of their smash hits, “Make It Sweet,” with Phil after telling the story of it's last minute creation. Matt dishes the inside scoop behind the creation of their hilarious Meow Mix album - a joke which was not instantly recognized by their record label. He ends their visit by mashing up one of their non-radio hits with one of Phil's classic jams.Performances:“Make It Sweet” - Matt Ramsey“Nowhere Fast” - Matt RamseyTo stay up to date with Matt Ramsey and Old Dominion, head on over to https://www.weareolddominion.comMore info on Songs From The Cellar & details on how to watch the TV series can be found at https://www.songsfromthecellar.comKeep up with Matt Ramsey on Social media at:InstagramTwitterKeep up with Old Dominion on Social media at:FacebookInstagramTwitterYouTubeSpotifyFollow Phil Vassar and Songs From The Cellar at:FacebookInstagramTwitterYouTubeSpotifyCheck out more awesome podcasts at:American Songwriter Podcast NetworkAnd go!

Host Will Presti sits down in the Hamptons with ad legend and author Jerry Della Femina. Said to be the inspiration for the hit TV series Mad Men, Jerry's New York agency, Della Femina, Travisano and Partners, worked hard and played harder. In the 1950s and 60s he led the advertising revolution to full swing with a determined fun loving swagger and creative spirit. And like it or not, there was no such term as “politically correct.” A great story teller, Jerry shares how he started as a delivery boy, built a global agency over three martini lunches, and how he got that Meow Mix cat to sing. Sunday Morning Squirrels: Sunday number two with the new group of students. A little less chaos. But only a little! We continued our series on Purpose from the 1 John series from DYM. It was a good day! Countdown Video: Animal Vines Remember vine? Those were the days. Our countdown video was just tons of animal vines all put together. Animals are funny. Students like animals. Win win win. Games: Quick Draw This game came from DYM's Gold Rush week. The week was incredible, and this game was a lot of fun! Students got into pairs and then had to look at the screen. The video told them what to do and the student who completed the task first won and found a new partner. Quick and easy! Meow Mix Once we got down to four students, we brought them up on stage to play Meow Mix by Anthony Taylor and Sam Peterson. The premise is easy: instead of singing the song on the card, you have to meow it! It's harder hilarious and actually challenging! Songs: Alive Cornerstone Bible Study: We continued the series of Purpose by looking at what it means to abide in 1 John. I didn't use the Big Lebowski reference they included in the lesson and instead talked about houses I've lived in and the switch you always make from calling it "my house" to "my home" and how that means we "abide" there.
