Oleg, Praz and Andy discuss all of the hot topics, like: can you bat Petecrow and Busch back to back, is Seiya a star, does Jed already have a contract extension, why doesn't Tommy Hottovy get more crap, and would you rather have the Dodgers' offense or the Cubs'? Plus they assign a new nickname to Reese McGuire, make fun of Ian Happ, blame one team for the lack of pitching trade candidates, mock a Mark DeRosa hot take and tell you which Michael Mann movie character Brad Keller looks like. All that, and more.
In what's becoming a regular occurrence, the Cubs are calling up another elite prospect to make his major-league debut. To get you prepared for Moisés Ballesteros' big moment, Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney have a scouting report on what to expect from the young left-handed hitter, and why the Cubs are making this move right now. Ballesteros follows Cade Horton, a top pitching prospect who certainly looked like he belonged in New York. These are things that have to happen in order for a team to put together a special season. From this youth movement to under-the-radar contributors such as Colin Rea and Brad Keller, The Athletic's Chicago beat writers have it covered.Schedule your PXG golf club fitting today at PXG.com/foul to save up to 20% on your entire order. Lance Brozdowski digs into the Cubs' loss on the road against the Mets and considers whether this is the optimal rollout for their top pitching prospect, Cade Horton, potentially pitching out of the bullpen tomorrow behind Brad Keller.
In this investigatively journalistic episode of Tubi or Not Tubi, we take a hard long look at the 2006 film, Inspector Mom, directed by Brad Keller. Often times one comes across a film description on Tubi that is irresistable to resist. In this case there is both a soccer mom and a murder described as "brutal" all in one package... So of course it warranted investigation!
Episode 108 – Cubs Bullpen: Just Noise or Time to Panic? I kicked off the episode by celebrating one of the most infamous moments in Cubs history: Lee Elia's legendary 1983 postgame rant. If you've never heard it, do yourself a favor and look it up — it's a time capsule of frustration, profanity, and peak Cubs lore. Then I pivoted to the present: the Cubs are 17-12 after surviving a brutal April schedule. Not a single game against a losing team until this series in Pittsburgh — that's wild. I talked through why I'm actually encouraged by this start — especially considering we've already seen the Dodgers, Padres, Diamondbacks, and Rangers. No cupcake wins in that bunch. The offense has been carrying the load — leading MLB in runs scored and ranking top five in most categories. Pitching? That's where it gets interesting. Let's talk bullpen: There's panic out there, and I get it — but I dug into the numbers and game logs to get a clearer picture of what's actually happening. I broke down every blown save so far — who they're charged to, how they happened, and why that stat doesn't always mean what fans think it does. I showed how a single bad outing is inflating ERAs for guys like Porter Hodge and Brad Keller — and why Hodge, in particular, has actually been solid outside of one meltdown. I walked through game-by-game bullpen usage during the last homestand to separate emotion from results. Some of those wins? The bullpen locked it down. I compared this group to last year's disaster — and while they're walking too many guys and not getting enough strikeouts, it's not the same situation as 2024. At least not yet. Where we go from here: I talked about who I trust in the late innings right now (spoiler: it's not just Presley), and why the Cubs need to keep cycling through arms until they find the right mix. I gave Jed some criticism for not doing more in the offseason — but also credit for being aggressive with early call-ups and DFA moves. I touched on David Robertson rumors, why adding starting depth could actually help the bullpen, and what internal options might emerge. Finally, I looked ahead to May — the schedule softens up, and if this team keeps doing what it did in April against easier opponents, we might just stay on top of the division. Lance Brozdowski recaps another insane game at Wrigley Field, talks about Brad Keller's emergence in the Cubs' bullpen and discusses whether PCA deserves NL MVP votes.
Episode Summary: I'm back after a few hectic weeks, and with Opening Day (for most of MLB) here, it felt like the perfect time to drop a season preview episode! This one's a little shorter, but I wanted to break down the Cubs' final 26-man roster, talk through what went right and wrong this offseason, and give you my predictions for 2025. I also dive into how I'm approaching this season personally—falling back in love with baseball after a stressful winter, enjoying the game wherever I can find it, and just appreciating the ride. Cubs, college ball, high school, youth leagues—I'm all in. Let's talk expectations, roster surprises, and whether this team has what it takes to win the division and make a deep postseason run. ⚾️ What I Cover in This Episode:
It's opening day 2.0 and the Cubs still aren't playing when the sun's out. Oh well, everything can't be perfect. Let's take a look at some big keys to the season like Matt Shaw being good, Petecrow taking the next step and Michael Busch hopefully proving he's more than just a guy. Let's discuss what Jed said to our good friend Jon Greenberg about his future and Kyle Tucker's, what the Cubs had to do to make room for Tater and for Brad Keller's huge dome and how phantom injuries helped keep all the guys they wanted to. We'll make fun of CHSN for still not being anywhere were anybody can see them and revisit Andy's sure to be perfect baseball predictions. And then a little bonus, some TV shows you should be watching and a book or two. All that, and more.
Sure, the Dodgers might have the best player of his generation and two other Japanese fireballers, but there's no dispute that the Cubs' Japanese players returning home to play in next week's games are more fun. Seiya's hitting baseballs with a samurai sword, Shōta's making fun of his manager's batting stance. That has to be worth something, right? Tom Loxas is on hand to discuss this, why the Cubs are bothering with Lance Lynn, PCA's emergence, what do the Cubs see in Brad Keller, and the future of Tater Workman. Plus, the Bears moves make a lot more sense than we're used to. All that, and more
After a few twists and turns, the Cubs landed on bringing their top prospect to Japan and almost certainly making him a big part of their Opening Day roster. The Athletic's Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney discuss all the roster ramifications and how things set up for the Tokyo Series. How much does the club believe in Rule 5 draft pick Gage Workman? And what to make of Brad Keller's spring showing? The games are about to get real.Go to Hungryroot.com/FT and use code FT to get 40% off your first box and a free item of your choice for life! The Cubs and their 31-man roster are in Japan. The biggest news of that group is that top prospect Matt Shaw is with the team and will presumptively be the team's Opening Day starter at the hot corner. The Cubs Weekly Podcast analyzes Shaw's inclusion on the travel squad to Japan and why the organization decided to include him on the team. Hosts Tony Andracki and Andy Martínez discuss the benefits of rostering him and what it could mean moving forward.Andracki and Martínez then look at one of the key names who didn't make the traveling squad — reliever Keegan Thompson. The duo breaks down why he was left off and whether this spells the end of his tenure as a Cub.In the spirit of March Madness, Andracki and Martínez look at the roster with a college hoops lens: who were the last four players in? They discuss why the team included Jordan Wicks, Brad Keller, Ben Brown and Daniel Palencia on the 31-man list and where they might fit in.Before the podcast wraps up, the duo looks at one of the surprise stories of camp — Rule 5 Draft pick Gage Workman, how he worked his way onto the Opening Day roster and what he brings to this roster.
Matt Shaw's oblique has sidelined him for longer than Cubs fans expected. Is this a growing concern? Also, with Brad Keller's recent success, is there a shot he makes the Opening Day roster?Get your own Setup Man Swag: https://obviousshirts.com/collections...2025 Cubs Spring Training Playlist: • Cubs Spring Training 2025 FREE Cubs Talk Facebook Group: / cubstalk Go to www.setupman.net and subscribe to our mailing list to become a part of Setup Man Nation and so you never miss a show! Sox fans! Our Chicago White Sox (14-33) were swept by the New York Yankees over the weekend. It was the seventh time this season that the Sox have been swept. Brad Keller was designated for assignment, Bryan Ramos landed on the IL but is on the mend and Eloy Jimenez played some right field. John Schriffen took a jab at The Score 670 and Tommy Pham is playing for his ticket out of Chicago. The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles are on deck for the last place Chicago White Sox. Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees MLB Betting Pick Prediction 5/18/2024 by Tony T. White Sox at Yankees—Brad Keller to start for Chicago. Keller appeared in four games dealing with an ERA of 2.84 with WHIP of 1.18. The righthander strikes out 16.4% with 9.1% walks. Ground balls dealt at 56.1% with 0.71 home runs per nine innings. A FIP of 3.90 suggests a rise in ERA based on form. Luis Gil to start for New York. Gil in eight starts has an ERA of 2.51 with WHIP of 1.09. Righty fans 27.4% with 14.9% walks. Grounders sit at 39.4% with 0.63 home runs per nine innings.
Sox fans! Our Chicago White Sox are (4-11) in Cactus League play and have the worst run differential (-36) in all of Spring Training. It's the just the spring though, right? Oscar Colas was one of the dozen cuts made by the White Sox. What percentage of miles per hour does Pedro Grifol want from him moving forward? Ex Royals pitcher, Brad Keller, was signed by the White Sox to a minor league deal. Can the Sox adopt an old KC logo for the 2024 season? Michael Kopech continues to struggle in the first inning and Grifol is noncommittal on the five man rotation. The navigation of the desert life is a struggle. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/good-guys-talk-back/message

Royals general manager J.J. Picollo called the team's performance this year “disappointing,” and a fan base would agree. He said that and much more on SportsBeat KC, The Star's daily sports podcast. Picollo joined beat writer Lynn Worthy and columnist Vahe Gregorian on the show that started as a SportsBeat Live broadcast. The topics included the development of starting pitching, the future role of Brad Keller, the young lineup and what carries into next season. Also, miserable as the season is, there are some bright spots, like the performance of starting pitcher Brady Singer and the play of rookies like Bobby Witt Jr., M.J. Melendez and Vinnie Pasquantino.
