He joins Insight to talk about how he worked to capture in-depth details about the disappearance and its investigation for the first time.

Gil Cisneros is running to replace a retiring Grace Napolitano for CA 31 in the San Gabriel Valley. And local businessman and Swing Left organizer Steve Pierson is running for the 44th Assembly district in California.Gil is a former Naval Officer who served previously in California's 39th district and as Under Secretary of Defense in the Biden Administration. Gil and his wife won $266 million dollars in California's Mega Millions Lottery. They have put the windfall to wonderful use, setting up scholarship funds across the San Gabriel Valley.  We talk to Gil about the great hypothetical question, “What would I do if I won the lottery?” And his ability to stay that course once dream became reality. We ask him why he left the Republican Party in 2008, we discuss the issues that concern his district like immigration, homelessness, transportation, and the environment. Gil is eager to get to work advocating for veterans, gun safety reform, economic opportunity for working families, climate action, defending women's rights and furthering the diversity programs he credits with his own pathway to success.Steve Pierson came to politics very naturally. His father worked on The Great Society in the LBJ administration. Steve took a detour into the entertainment industry, but after the election of Trump he spearheaded Swing Left, a grassroots organizational effort to flip purple districts blue.Steve's assembly district will cover much of the East San Fernando Valley and he has already travelled to Sacramento to meet with members, build relationships and discuss future legislation that could best serve his district. Steve tells us that California's state house super majority allows them to make groundbreaking laws that serve as models for the country in clean energy, transportation, gun safety and health care.  Steve looks forward to using his skills as an organizer and his background in entertainment to build strong teams and work towards passing CalCare – California's Medicare for All Plan — taking climate action, addressing our homeless crisis and ensuring that those seeking treatment get the support they need.Plus, Fritz and Weezy are recommending Archie on Brit Box and Still on Apple +.Californians! But at week's end, the Senate left town with no agreement on even a framework for discussion. And Californians are still digesting Tuesday's primaries, which resulted in a November run-off for the mayor's office in Los Angeles, and a recall of San Francisco's district attorney. As Californians went to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the state's primary, predicted low voter turnout seemed to be the top headline statewide. While every registered voter was mailed a ballot, only 16% of them had been returned by Tuesday. This lackluster turnout stands in contrast to the energy behind some of the hotly contested races, like the mayor's campaign in Los Angeles and the effort to recall San Francisco's progressive district attorney. And while a recent poll by the Public Policy Institute placed the economy, inflation and housing at the top of Californian's concerns, political observers note that this primary seems to be a referendum on pandemic crime rates. We'll analyze the results, and talk about what message voters are sending about state politics and what these results portend for the November midterms.

If you've noticed downtown LA is busier than usual, it's because it is. The Summit of the Americas starts today as the U.S. and other countries in North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, get together to discuss big issues like migration, climate change and inflation. President Biden will be here later this week. But Mexico's president won't, nor will the leaders of some other big players in Latin America. We go In Depth into what, if anything, this summit will accomplish. California's primary election is tomorrow. Don't expect long lines at voting centers and precincts though if early voting is any indication of voter turnout. Vladimir Putin is warning the U.S. and Britain to avoid sending certain rockets to Ukraine---or else. We look into if Putin is serious about the "or else." A big month is ahead for the Supreme Court and the country. Rulings from some big cases will come down soon, including whether Roe v. Wade really will be overturned. Britain's prime minister Boris Johnson has just survived a no confidence vote tonight in Parliament. We head to London to find out how he survived and if his leadership is permanently damaged anyway. People across the country are turning into cheaper tippers than before the pandemic. And Cheech Marin is more than just a comedian and actor. He's an art collector and he has his own museum opening soon right here in southern California. We talk to him about it.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. There is only one more week until the Primary Election in California next Tuesday. Both parties are trying to understand what's roiling the electorate heading into a difficult midterm environment. Beyond the polls and the focus groups, there are many questions surrounding the differences and distinctions in the electorate over the many issues of the day. This ranges from inflation to crime, exhaustion with the pandemic, and a general cynicism about politics.   For more, KCBS Radio news anchors Patti Reising and Jeff Bell, as well as Political Scientist from Sonoma State University Dr. David McCuan, spoke with Bill Carrick, Political Consultant based in California.

The assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy shocks the world and causes the Democratic Party to descend into chaos. This episode opens with messages from Senator Eugene McCarthy and Vice President Hubert Humphrey, the rivals of Robert Kennedy for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Kennedy had just won the California Primary and seemed headed for a victory at the Democratic Convention in Chicago. Instead, Robert Kennedy would be buried not far from his brother at Arlington National Cemetery. He was only 42 years old. The Republican Nomination Process was itself not without some drama, though Former Vice President Richard Nixon seemed to be firmly in the lead. As the Republican Party met for its convention in Miami there would be some last minute attempts to thwart Nixon's ascendency to the nomination from Governor Ronald Reagan, but after some last minute meetings, Senator Strom Thurmond would help Nixon hold the south and he would win the nomination of his party for a second time for President. The Democratic National Convention  could be summed up in a single word in 1968, DISASTER. Vice President Hubert Humphrey would win the nomination, but it appeared almost worthless after the Democrats tore themselves apart on live television and broke out in riots in the streets of Chicago. One U.S. Senator even accused Chicago's powerful Mayor Richard J. Daley of instituting Gestapo tactics in the streets. Humphrey did not even take the stage until late the night he was nominated. It just could not have been worse if you had tried.A few days later Richard Nixon would have a rally in the same town to a heroes welcome. It would kick off the 1968 campaign and Nixon started out with an almost insurmountable lead. However, Hubert Humphrey would break with President Lyndon Johnson on his policy in Vietnam and he would campaign as hard as any nominee in American History.  Slowly but surely, Hubert Humphrey, who from all accounts was an enormously nice and friendly man, would start closing the gap between himself and his Republican rival. By the eve of the 1968 Presidential Election the race would be to close to call, and in that final stretch a final trump card would be played by the sitting President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. He would claim that peace was insight and call a halt to all bombing in Vietnam. This would lead to one of the most controversial accusations in all of American History about whether a candidate for President was actually involved in an act of treason to undermine peace talks in Paris. While there is proof that one woman was trying to influence South Vietnam, we will examine whether any evidence actually exists at all on whether Richard Nixon was complicit in her efforts or, if in fact, it is really Richard Nixon who has been the victim of one of histories great injustices.
