This week on the podcast we are honored and thankful to have a returning guest, Dr. Daniel Lewis, who made national news last year for being one of the first physicians to survive COVID-19. Last year Stacy talked to him in a one on one interview about that whole ordeal, but this year we wanted to bring him back on and have an update Q&A session with the entire gang to ask him the tough questions concerning COVID-19, the Delta Variant, Masks, Vaccines and Mandates. This is a great one folks, you don't want to miss it! What rights would you be willing to give up to help another person understand true freedom in Christ? Would you give up where you shopped? What you ate & drank? Simply put, would you modify your run to help others walk? Whilst Paul’s challenge to rethink the impact food offered to idols might seem irrelevant to us today, today’s message offers an application that may just make your next BBQ a little harder to stomach!
On today's show we look at Day 3 of the creation account in Genesis 1 and the picture of Christ's resurrection, as we continue with Typology Tuesday. Genesis 1:9-13 Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. 13 There was evening and there was morning, a third day.
SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:1-4:1REFLECTION/DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:In Philippians 3:5-6, Paul presents a resume of his status and achievements that he could use to earn God’s approval. Do you ever find yourself presenting a similar resume to God in prayer? Do you ever find yourself thinking you are better than others because you pray more, or study the Bible more than others? Or, do you ever feel unworthy of God’s love because Christians around you seem so much more righteous? What would it take for us to consider everything loss, or excrement, in comparison to knowing Christ? Would we be willing to give up everything in order to follow Jesus, if He asked us to?During his Sunday morning messages over the years, Kenny often talks about us being God’s beloved, of being made in God’s image. How can that concept free us from the dangers of self-righteousness or a lack of self-worth?If the power of Christ’s resurrection enables us to live a new life, as Paul says it can, how can we go about knowing the power of that resurrection in our lives? How can we make use of our time during the Covid-19 stay in place order, to better know the power of the resurrection?
Our faith demands that we work in the world to ease suffering no matter at what cost to ourselves. It also invites to see that death comes to nothing in the life of God into which all are enveloped and embraced. As we face a world newly vulnerable to death with the coronavirus spreading so fast, we join in the struggle to limit the spread of suffering and death even when this puts us at risk. For those doing this most pressingly--those in healthcare and in other "essential services"--we pray and stand in astonishment at their labors. Monterey Church (UCC) Church on the Hill, Lenox (UCC)

If others were to write your obituary what would they say? For what would you be remembered? Would they write abut your love for Christ? Would your love for Christ be evident enough in the way you live for it to even be included? This morning we are going to look at two questions to help you evaluate how you’re living in light of your relationship with Christ. 2 Questions 1. What does your unspoken testimony say? (2 Corinthians 5:14-17). 2. What does your spoken testimony say? (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). Application: 1. What controls or compels the way you live? Is it Christ’s love for youor something else? What needs to change? 2. Paul says believers have been entrusted with the message and ministry of reconciliation. What do you need to do better in order to be a more faithful ambassador? 3. What plans have you made for next week’s Outreach Night?

While the 40 Days for Life fall campaign will come to a close in a few weeks, this edition of Spotlight features highlights from an address given by Rev. Ceasar LeFlore at a 40 Days launch event in Tinley Park – and his message is just as timely now as it was at the start of the campaign. In his presentation, Pastor LeFlore speaks about the prompting of the Holy Spirit, the power of prayer, the imperative for pastors to set an example and lead their people to follow that example, and the need for churches to actively promote a culture of life as well as partner with pro-life communities. Make sure to listen to Pastor LeFlore's impassioned exhortation at the conclusion of the podcast. Pastor Ceasar LeFlore is one of the founders of the Southland Coalition for Life.

Romans 8:1-39 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Would you say that part of Being Human is that we should be able to rise above the natural world's survival instincts and cultivate the land and relationships, and all of life in a way that allows us to flourish? What would it look like in your life right now if you as a human being, were to flourish? Who's vision of flourishing wins the day? What is keeping us stuck in similar patterns of dryness and death? Join us as we keep talking about Being Human and specifically this week on what it means to flourish.

Prophecy concerning when Christ would come - Daniel 9:20-27 Today we go over four points: The Reliability of our Faith (Verse 22) The Hope of our Faith (Verse 24) The Accuracy of our Faith (Verse 25-26) The Hardship of the Faithful (Verse 26-27)
One of the greatest barriers the gospel faced in the early days of the church was the spirit of animosity that existed between the Jews and all those they considered Gentiles, or non-Jews. As the church began to grow and the gospel began to spread outside the confines of Jerusalem and Judea, more and more Gentiles were coming to faith in Christ. One of the first groups to be reached were the Samaritans, and this particular audience raised some critical concerns among the Jewish disciples. Samaritans were considered half-breeds by the Jews, because they were descendants of Jews who had intermarried with pagans hundreds of years earlier. They were still God-worshipers, but were viewed as damaged goods by the Jewish Christians. And yet, here was God opening up the door of the gospel to these very people, and they were going to respond in great numbers. This left the church having to deal with what appeared to be a conundrum. How would they treat these newfound brothers and sisters in Christ? Would they accept them or continue to view them as second-class citizens? One of the greatest miracles to happen in the early days of the church was not speaking tongues, but the unification of those who had long held each other in contempt. The Spirit of God was building the church, creating a new family out of those who had nothing more in common than their shared faith in Christ. And it would be their growing love for one another that truly set the church apart and gave proof that they were disciples of Jesus.
The reading from St. Paul’s epistle, first epistle to the Thessalonians , “Brethren we give thanks to God always for you, making remembrance of you in our prayers without ceasing, being mindful of the work of your faith and labour and charity and of the enduring of the hope of Our Lord Jesus Christ before God and Our Father. Knowing brethren beloved of God, your election for our Gospel have not be on to you in word only but in power also and in the Holy Ghost and in much fullness as you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes and you gave and you became followers of us, and of the Lord; receiving the word in much tribulation, with joy of the Holy Ghost so that you were made a pattern to all who believe in Macedonia and in Achaia. For from you was spread abroad the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia, and in Achaia, but also in every place, your faith which is towards God, is gone forth, so that we need not to speak anything. For they themselves relate of us, what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God. And to wait for His Son from heaven whom He raised up from the dead, Jesus, who hath delivered us from the wrath to come.” Our blessed Lord, at the beginning of His ministry spoke clearly. He also make many miracles without being asked and indeed even asking for nothing. We are told they came in their multitudes and touched Him and were healed. But after the death of John the Baptist our Lord adopted a different approach. He no longer spoke, except in parables and the reason was the death of St. John had made it very clear, that one was either for God or against God. To be for God meant to be for Christ. If one were resistant to the grace of Christ, then someone was also resistant to God’s grace, our Lord Himself makes that clear. In speaking parables, He did one of two things, first there were those who were sincere and wanted to know. They would be the ones in whom the parables would be intriguing and would grip their hearts and they would make the necessary effort to understand. We will see that when the disciples would say to our Lord… For Fr. Linus’ complete homily please listen to the Audio.
