Focusing on looking after the family, friends and delivering at work to the point where there is nothing left for you leads to disaster. When you are unhappy and exhausted, it has a negative impact on everyone around you. Often, the smallest changes make the biggest difference (diet, exercise, work, relationships). Think about what will happen in 5 years if you carry on putting yourself under too much pressure. Then, use that to drive yourself to change. Juneteenth is a holiday to celebrate the day Union troops went to Galveston, TX, in 1865, to declare freedom for all slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation, however, had been enacted 2.5 years earlier, yet it took that long for the news to reach Galveston. It's a great metaphor for how we live. People use phrases like "time heals all wounds" or "time is the ultimate healer." Neither of these is true! Time doesn't heal anything, you do! It's what you do with the time that determines whether or not you heal. If you keep telling a story of pain, loss, betrayal, regret, etc., the wound will persist and fester. I know you may not want to hear this but that list of 100 recipes you found on Pinterest is not going to help you create the variety you want in your healthy meals. At least not consistently. So, we know that cooking our meals at home gives us more control over our intake and our results. But, who has time to do that? Well? Errrrrry night of the week? Not you, right? I used to think the same thing. As a matter of fact, I used to pride myself on my ability to order Figure Friendly meals ANYWHERE. While that is still a useful skill, I eventually got burned out on the restaurant food- and associated cost. However, I still wasn't willing to spend a lot of time in the kitchen to make meals each day. OK, let's be honest. I was only willing to spend about 15 minutes- max! As per usual, I got busy answering the question, "what would it look like if I could (insert desire) even though I (insert limitation)". It took a little experimentation, but soon I was able to figure out how to consistently cook Figure Friendly Meals at home even though I'm not willing to spend more than 15 minutes in the kitchen creating them. Turns out, I figured out how to make it happen in 10 minutes or less. On the surface, a regularly scheduled cheat day may seem like an effective way to avoid the feeling of deprivation while eating to lose weight. You get one day to eat the indulgent foods you may be missing. The thought is that you can eat the foods, "get it out of your system", and then continue on with your healthy eating. That's how it's supposed to work. For many of us, that's not how it works in practice. There's more to weight loss than balancing calories. The regular practice of having a cheat day can pose threats to your sustainable weight loss far beyond the calories you consume that day.
