In This Episode Most companies attend trade shows hoping for leads. Samantha McGuiness builds systems that turn events into predictable appointment engines. In this episode, Adi Klevit interviews Samantha about how to structure face-to-face marketing so it consistently produces measurable results. Samantha explains that success at events is not about showing up. It is about hiring intentionally, training systematically, and following a repeatable qualification process. From recruitment scripts to booth engagement, everything must be deliberate. Adi and Samantha dive into common mistakes, including hiring out of desperation, asking ineffective opening questions, and staffing booths with the wrong roles. Samantha shares how a simple shift from asking "What brings you to the show?" to directly qualifying with targeted questions dramatically increases engagement and conversion. The conversation reinforces a systems-driven truth: event marketing should not be occasional or random. When built as a structured, year-round department with clear KPIs and defined ownership, it becomes one of the most profitable growth channels in a business.
What's up folks, today we have the pleasure of sitting down with Anthony Rotio, Chief Data Strategy Officer at GrowthLoop.(00:00) - Intro (01:10) - In this episode (04:05) - Journeying From Robotics to Modern Marketing Systems (11:05) - Most Marketing Systems Don't Learn Because They Lack Feedback Loops (16:10) - The Martech Engineering Talent Gap (19:51) - AI Will Amplify Whoever Has the Cleanest Causal Feedback Loop (29:17) - Agent Context Graphs for Drift Detection in Marketing Systems (31:51) - Humans Will Set Hypotheses, AI Will Accelerates Iteration (35:50) - The Evolution of Retail Media Networks (45:07) - How Commerce Networks Redefine Targeting With Governed Data (48:26) - How Agent to Agent Commerce Operates Inside Marketing Funnels (53:04) - Google Universal Commerce Protocol Explained (54:43) - Personal Happiness System (56:30) - Favorite Books Summary: Anthony traces a path from robotics and computer science to his current role where he approaches marketing as an engineering system. He explains how execution-first marketing stacks weaken feedback loops and fragment data, which slows learning and iteration. He introduces the agent context graph as a causality model that lets AI simulate and predict customer behavior with greater confidence. The conversation also covers retail media networks, first-party data monetization through governed access, and a shift toward zero-to-zero marketing driven by agent-to-agent transactions. He closes by stressing that strong data foundations determine who can compete as marketing becomes more automated and agent-driven.About AnthonyAnthony Rotio is the Chief Data Strategy Officer at GrowthLoop, where he leads partnerships and builds generative AI product features for marketers, including multi-agent systems, AI-driven audience building, and benchmarking and evaluation work. He previously served as GrowthLoop's Chief Customer Officer, where he built and led teams across data engineering, data science, and solutions architecture while supporting product development and strategic sales efforts. Before GrowthLoop, Anthony spent nearly six years at AB InBev, where he led a $100M owned retail business unit with full P&L responsibility and drove major growth through operational and digital transformation work. He also led U.S. marketing for Budweiser, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Stella Artois, and other brands across music, food, and related consumer programs. He earned a B.A. in computer science from Harvard, played linebacker on the Harvard football team, founded the consumer product Pizza Shelf, and holds a Google Professional Cloud Architect certification.Journeying From Robotics to Modern Marketing SystemsAnthony's career started far away from marketing. He trained as a computer scientist and spent his early years working with robotics and reinforcement learning. His first exposure to a learning agent left a lasting impression because the system behaved less like traditional software and more like something adaptive. That experience shaped how he would later think about work, systems, and feedback. He learned early that progress comes from loops that learn, not static instructions. That mindset followed him into an unexpected chapter at AB InBev. Anthony entered a world defined by scale, brands, and operational complexity. He treated his technical background like a carpenter treats tools, useful only when applied to real problems. Running marketing across major beer brands taught him how value is created inside large organizations. It also exposed a recurring issue. Marketing teams had ambition and data, but execution moved slowly because ideas had to travel through layers of translation before anything reached customers. That friction became impossible to ignore. Audience definitions moved through tickets. Campaigns waited on queries. Data teams became bottlenecks through no fault of their own. Anthony felt the pull back toward technology, where systems could shorten the distance between intent and action. That pull led him to GrowthLoop, where he joined early and worked directly with customers. The appeal was immediate. The product connected straight to cloud data and removed several layers of mediation that marketing teams had accepted as normal. As language models improved, Anthony recognized a familiar pattern. Audience building behaved like a translation problem. Marketers described people and intent in natural language, while systems demanded structured logic. Early experiments showed that natural language models could close that gap. Anthony framed the idea clearly.“Audience building is a translation problem. You start with a business idea and you end with a query on top of data.”Momentum followed quickly. Customers like Indeed and Google responded because speed changed behavior. Teams experimented more often and refined audiences based on results instead of assumptions. Conversations with Sam Altman and collaboration with OpenAI reinforced that this capability belonged in the core workflow. Standing on stage at Google Cloud Next marked a clear moment of validation. That arc reshaped Anthony's role into Chief Data Strategy Officer. His work now focuses on building systems that learn over time. Faster audience creation leads to shorter feedback loops. Shorter loops improve decision quality. Better decisions compound. The throughline from robotics to marketing holds steady. Systems improve when learning sits at the center of execution.Key takeaway: Career leverage often comes from carrying one mental model across multiple domains. Anthony applied learning systems thinking from computer science to enterprise marketing, then rebuilt the tooling to match that mindset. You can do the same by identifying where translation slows your work, then designing interfaces that move intent directly into action. When feedback loops tighten, progress accelerates naturally. Most Marketing Systems Don't Learn Because They Lack Feedback LoopsMarketing organizations generate enormous amounts of activity, but learning often lags behind execution. Campaigns launch on schedule, dashboards fill with numbers, and post-campaign reviews happen right on time. The pattern repeats month after month with small adjustments and familiar explanations. Over time, teams become highly efficient at producing output while remaining surprisingly weak at retaining knowledge. The system rewards motion, visibility, and short-term lifts, which slowly conditions teams to forget what they learned last quarter.Anthony connects this behavior to structural pressure inside large organizations. Quarterly reporting cycles dominate priorities, and executive tenures continue to compress. Leaders feel urgency to show impact quickly and publicly. Compounding growth requires early patience and repeated reinforcement, which rarely aligns with board expectations or career incentives. Short time horizons shape long-term behavior, even when everyone agrees that learning should stack over time.“When you think about compound interest in finance, the early part looks almost linear. People want big bumps now, even if those bumps never build momentum.”Technology choices deepen the problem. Many companies invested heavily in customer data and built impressive data clouds that capture transactions, events, and engagement in detail. Activation remains slow because teams still rely on handoffs between marketing and data groups. A familiar sequence plays out:A marketer defines a campaign and requests an audience.A ticket moves to a data team for interpretation and SQL.The audience returns weeks later. The marketer realizes the audience lacks scale for ne...

In This Episode Marketing doesn't fail because of creativity—it fails when decisions are made without understanding the data behind them. In this episode, Adi Klevit interviews Brook Shepard about how data should drive both marketing strategy and internal processes. Brook shares a powerful example of a brand whose revenue dropped in direct correlation with a decline in branded search volume. The insight was simple but overlooked: fewer people were searching for the brand, meaning awareness—not efficiency—was the growth problem. Adi and Brook dive into one of the biggest misconceptions in marketing: over-optimizing for return on ad spend. Brook explains why relentless focus on efficiency often leads businesses to market only to existing customers, limiting long-term growth. Understanding the lifetime value of a new customer versus the short-term return of remarketing can completely change budget allocation decisions. The conversation expands to AI, evolving search behavior, and the importance of documented internal systems. Brook emphasizes that while AI accelerates execution, taste and judgment remain human responsibilities. He also shares how Mason Interactive relies on clearly defined weekly processes to ensure consistency across remote teams. The takeaway is clear: whether in marketing or operations, growth requires structured systems supported by thoughtful analysis.

From website infrastructure to call tracking to CRM adoption, his work centers on building systems that scale without burning teams out.Ryan is also the creator of Hyperdrive WP, a streamlined website framework designed to eliminate tech debt, improve performance, and give business owners something they actually own without overengineering or bloated subscriptions. This conversation is a must-listen for founders and operators who feel stuck doing “all the right things” but aren't seeing real growth. We cover:Why most businesses try to scale before their foundation is readyThe three non-negotiables for growth: website, call tracking, and a trusted CRMWhy more traffic is often the wrong goal and how less traffic can convert betterThe Business Growth Flywheel and how it creates alignment between marketing, sales, and serviceWhy marketing fails when it's disconnected from sales and customer experienceHow poor CRM adoption quietly kills momentum (and what realistic timelines look like)The hidden cost of tech debt and overbuilt websitesHyperdrive WP and how to ship fast without sacrificing qualityWhy clarity beats cleverness in messaging for both users and GoogleHow consistency, not shiny tactics, separates businesses that scale from those that stallKey Takeaways:Growth doesn't come from more tactics, it comes from better systems.Marketing should support the entire business, not just look good.Quality leads beat high volume every time.CRMs fail when teams aren't aligned, trained, or bought in.Sustainable growth is built methodically, not rushed to market. This is a grounded, tactical episode for founders, business owners, and leaders who want to simplify growth, build trust across teams, and scale without chaos.

Send us a textMost contractors don't have a marketing problem—they have a systems problem. We sat down with Skip Wilson, CEO of Draft Media Partners and a veteran of iHeart's digital era, to break down how to replace tactic-hopping with a durable plan that compounds. We start with the core: define a real audience, clarify the action you want (calls, forms, financing inquiries), craft messages people actually care about, and then build a channel mix that won't collapse when a platform changes the rules. We get practical fast. If “family-owned” is your headline, you're blending in. Instead, choose a USP that's provable and valuable: same-day installs, weekend hours without overtime, or flexible financing. From there, we map a resilient stack that aligns operations with demand: a CRM that can handle volume, automated nurturing to recover no-shows and slow deciders, strong search visibility, and brand-building through video and audio with precise household targeting. One standout tactic: retarget website visitors with oversized direct mail that lands days after they browse—perfect for bigger, non-urgent purchases like tankless water heaters, where timing and recall close the gap.Measurement is the unlock. We walk through shifting from cost per lead to customer acquisition cost and show how matchbacks connect exposure on CTV, radio, and social to actual new customers. No advanced stack? Use call tracking and a simple monthly CAC baseline to create a meaningful “pass/fail” view. Month one is an educated guess; month two should be optimization, not reinvention. When leads dip, pull pre-planned levers—adjust the audience, rotate offers, move budget up or down the funnel, or trigger targeted mail and outbound—rather than scrambling for “what's new.”If you're ready to stop chasing the most expensive leads in your market and start building a brand people search by name, this conversation is your blueprint. Listen, take notes, and then tell us: what's your current CAC target, and which lever will you pull next? Most entrepreneurs make business decisions based solely on sales data. But I've learned that auditing your entire marketing ecosystem gives you a much clearer picture of what's actually working and what needs to change. In today's episode, I'm walking you through the comprehensive marketing audit framework I use to make informed business decisions in my seven-figure creative agency. This isn't about analyzing individual content performance. It's about taking a 360-degree view of your messaging, positioning, funnel, brand perception, and systems to understand why certain offers aren't converting or why you're attracting unqualified leads. I'm sharing how this audit approach helped me realize that people were buying our rebrand service first, then Sales Studio, when I wanted Sales Studio to be the entry point. That insight led me to completely reposition Sales Studio as campaign support that helps people make money, which then funds their rebrand investment. About the Guest(s): Dr. Chad Woolner and Dr. Andrew Wells are the hosts of the Simplified Functional Medicine podcast. Dr. Woolner is known for helping over 300 functional medicine practitioners enhance their practices through a systems-based approach to solving chronic health issues. Dr. Wells, his co-host, has joined forces with Dr. Woolner to assist doctors in growing their businesses and making a significant impact on patient health. Together, they provide valuable insights into the field of functional medicine, focusing on practical solutions that streamline clinical practice, business systems, and marketing strategies. Episode Summary: In this provocative episode of the Simplified Functional Medicine podcast, Dr. Chad Woolner and Dr. Andrew Wells tackle the controversial topic of functional medicine certification, questioning its necessity and value. They delve into the idea that certifications may not be as crucial as practitioners are led to believe, particularly when compared to the importance of having effective business and marketing systems in place. With over 300 successful practitioners under their guidance, Dr. Woolner and Dr. Wells advocate for a more streamlined approach to functional medicine that prioritizes systems and results over formal accreditation. Challenging conventional wisdom, the hosts of the Simplified Functional Medicine podcast argue that effective patient outcomes do not solely rely on formal certifications. They explore the concept that possessing comprehensive clinical knowledge, while important, falls short without robust business strategies and marketing systems. By emphasizing the plug-and-play model of their program, they provide proof of the success achievable when practitioners focus on holistic systems and methods. This episode encourages functional medicine professionals to reassess their approach, ensuring they prioritize tangible patient outcomes and business sustainability over the pursuit of certifications. Key Takeaways: Functional medicine certification programs may not deliver the value practitioners expect, especially without complementary business and marketing systems. Success in functional medicine practice relies heavily on having proven systems in place for patient engagement and business operations. The Simplified Functional Medicine model offers a streamlined approach with ready-made clinical protocols and marketing systems, eliminating the need for practitioners to create these from scratch. Patient outcomes and business success are more effectively driven by practical systems and methods than by formal certifications. The hosts provide real-world examples of practitioners achieving significant results with their model, even without prior functional medicine certification. Notable Quotes: "Getting certified in functional medicine is a scam. There, I said it." - Dr. Chad Woolner "Practitioners want to make a living and earn money by helping solve chronic health issues." - Dr. Andrew Wells "More than a certification, what you really need is a proven system." - Dr. Chad Woolner "If you can't find patients, then I would say pause on the conversation about getting clinically certified." - Dr. Andrew Wells "The most amazing thing was that the patients are getting profound results." - Dr. Andrew Wells Resources: Simplified Functional Medicine - Learn more about the systems-based approach advocated by Drs. Woolner and Wells. Listeners are encouraged to dive deeper into this eye-opening episode to explore how functional medicine practitioners can shift focus towards effective systems over certifications for better patient outcomes and business growth. Stay tuned for more insightful episodes from the Simplified Functional Medicine podcast, where we continue to push the boundaries of traditional healthcare approaches.

Don't Fall for the Buyer's Trap: Why No-Marketing Businesses Aren't Easy Wins In this episode of Jackquisitions, we dive into a common pitfall many first-time buyers fall for—the belief that a business with little or no marketing is a “goldmine” just waiting to be unlocked. Spoiler: it's not that simple. Using the tongue-in-cheek example of an underwater basket weaving business, we break down the real costs of building out a marketing engine from scratch.Jack unpacks the "buyer's trap": the dangerous assumption that adding marketing will instantly generate revenue. In reality, successful marketing requires time, capital, and deep strategic focus—and that investment often erodes the profit margins buyers were initially excited about. Instead of chasing fixer-uppers, Jack recommends targeting businesses with established marketing systems already in place. It's about buying stability, not a project.Whether you're just starting your acquisition journey or knee-deep in LOIs, this episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to grow through home service business acquisitions without overextending financially.
