Join me on this week's episode as I talk to master story-teller and re-emerging pandemic parent, Melanie Deziel, about all the things. What does becoming a new mother, abruptly moving from a 600 square ft apartment, and launching a new book have in common? These are just a few of the unexpected adventures Melanie shares in this episode. Melanie is a keynote speaker, an award-winning branded content creator, and a lifelong storyteller on a mission to share the power of compelling and credible content with others. She is the founder and chief content officer of Storyfuel, which teaches marketers, publishers, creators, and companies of all sizes how to tell better brand stories. She is also the author of The Content Fuel Framework, How to Generate Unlimited Story Ideas. Melanie and her husband found themselves in a 600 square ft. apartment with a new baby and everyone suddenly working at home. They made a list of all the things that were important to them and surprisingly, Raleigh, North Carolina topped the list, so they moved during the pandemic to have more space and be closer to nature. The pandemic made them realize the importance of having a home that would support their wellbeing and minimize their stress levels. Melanie studied journalism at a time when journalism was really changing and there were no jobs for a new graduate, so she found a home in marketing and started using her story-telling skills for brands that needed her skillset. We are living in a remarkable world where we are all content creators. Many marketers think of content only as a way to alert people about our new products or a new sale. It's very transactional. Content can actually be so much more powerful when they're telling transformative stories about the lives they're changing or the customers they've served. Every content piece that you've either created or consumed was made up of two things: a focus and a format. High school students and college students are doing incredible special effects work, amazing video editing, creating music and so much more. The creativity, skills, and the technology they are learning at such a young age is incredible. Digital has democratized all these incredible skills for this whole generation.

Unlike other parts of your business, you oftentimes don't have a system for coming up with ideas (fresh content).Good content builds trust and trust creates customers. But creating good content can be hard.Where do you start? What do you say?On today's episode of The Weekly Boost we're joined by Melanie Deziel, author of The Content Fuel Framework. Melanie shares her tips and tricks for creating engaging content through storytelling, and a framework for creating content easily and effectively. If you're trying to create content and trust assets that grow your real estate business, you're going to want to listen to this one.Episode Highlights: Melanie compares creating content to planting seeds – you have to plant a lot of seeds in order to yield results and recognition.  Melanie wants to emphasize that everyone has the ability to be creative and tell stories, and they often just need a prompt and some guidance.  It's very important to have a clear idea of why you're creating content and what it does for you and your business.  In The Content Fuel Framework, Melanie has 10 different focuses that someone might consider when creating content.  Melanie walks through examples of how a real estate agent might use different ways of storytelling to talk about the market in their area.  Melanie shares some of the 10 focuses of storytelling, including people, basics, detail, and curation.  Melanie and Ricardo discuss some of the formats of storytelling, including writing, infographics, audio, video, and live video; the format informs the focus.  Melanie stresses the importance of tailoring your format to the types of content your audience consumes.  You can “translate” content into different formats to create more content.  You shouldn't exclusively talk about yourself in your content; put your audience first.  Personalizing the content you're putting out makes it more relatable.  Ricardo talks about prompting people to leave reviews and guiding them through the process in order to get them to say things that are useful for the business to promote.  It's important to find a balance between planning out content and being able to adapt and change under unexpected circumstances.  Melanie and Ricardo talk about how they organize their content; Ricardo uses the Things 3 app and Moleskine notebooks, and Melanie uses Google Docs/Google Drive.  If you're going to hire someone else to create your content, you still need to think about what you need the content for your business to do and pass that along to the person who's creating content for you.  3 Key Points:1.   When creating content, the focus should be on what you're trying to say and how it serves you and your business. 2. It is extremely important to tailor the format of your content to what your audience consumes, and you can adapt or “translate” content into different formats to reach the greatest number of people. 3. Personalizing your content is the best way to make it relatable. Tweetable Quotes: “I always say that I've been a lifelong storyteller…I've always had this connection to storytelling and to sharing narrative.” – Melanie Deziel “One of the things right off the bat that we need to shut down is that some people are not creative or not storytellers…we all have that capability within us.” – Melanie Deziel “How do I tell stories, how does my audience consume stories, and how do I close that gap?” – Melanie Deziel “Find a balance of being prepared [with your content] but also being able to pivot.” – Melanie Deziel Resources Mentioned: The Content Fuel Framework Storyfuel.co Sponsor: Follow Up Boss Melanie Deziel: Facebook Twitter Instagram The Forbearance Report Rev.com Moleskine Things 3 App (Apple App Store)
