A tapestry of uplifting stories in which fathers and sons share the game...Almost two hundred father-son pairs have played in the big leagues. Kevin Cook takes us inside the clubhouses, homes, and lives of many of the greats. In visiting these legendary families, Cook discovers that ball-playing families are a lot like our own. They called those nightly conversations “the Dad Report.” In time, Kevin came to see that these conversations were about much more than the game. That's what this book is about: the way fathers and sons talk baseball as a way of talking about everything -- courage, fear, fun, family, morality, and mortality. An award-winning sportswriter and former senior editor at Sports Illustrated, Kevin Cook is the author of Titanic Thompson, Tommy's Honor, and Kitty Genovese.Listen in to Kevin Cook's special Father’s Day week conversation in the Clubhouse...

Free agency has officially begun across Major League Baseball, and the Red Sox struck early by resigning David Ortiz to a two-year contract extension. Alex explains why though the Red Sox overpaid for Ortiz, it was a signing they had to make. Cody Ross has hit the open market, and though he sounds pessimistic about returning to the Red Sox, Alex believes it's still feasible to expect Ross to return if his asking price does not surpass two-years. Ross seems to have a swing made for Fenway Park, and he played well last season in less than ideal circumstances. The Red Sox enter free agency with a vacancy at first base, but Alex says the trade market may be the best route for the Red Sox to go in order to fill it. Nick Swisher and Mike Napoli, though they are both intriguing, come with a number of question marks. In the "Around the League" segment, Alex puts a bow on the Giants' latest World Series championship. This year's World Series was also the lowest rated World Series of all-time. Why? The Marlins have hired a new manager in Mike Redmond, and he is the seventh manager in South Florida over the past decade. Plus, Dan Haren hits the free agent market after a deal fell through between the Angels and Cubs over the weekend. Post on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards. Signing up is free, quick and easy. Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1. Our thoughts remain with those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy last week. Also, get out and vote tomorrow!

Ben and Sam discuss the decline of Ubaldo Jimenez and whether the Rockies saw it coming when they sent him to Cleveland, then talk about the Angels’ off-season plans for Torii Hunter and Dan Haren.
Ben and Sam revisit the trade that sent Dan Haren to the Angels in light of Haren’s down year and Tyler Skaggs’ debut for the Diamondbacks, then talk about how Derek Jeter has remained productive at age 38 and examine whether the Yankees are in any trouble in the AL East.

The guys get BEN's thoughts on where ROY OSWALT will go, TRADE rumors on the guys FAVORITE TEAM's, his thoughts on the DAN HAREN deal and so much more in a GREAT INTERVIEW! We then give you this week's edition of HEY! NICE TWITS! www.wheelhouseradio.com
Alex recaps the 4 game series against Seattle with phrases such as "yikes" and "yuck." The Red Sox wasted a great effort by Jon Lester on Saturday, and blew a late lead on Sunday. The offense has been abysmal, and the defense and bullpen haven't been much better. It's been a disappointing trip, and the bullpen's struggles further cement that the Red Sox have to trade for a reliever at the deadline. Alex talks about how the Red Sox have to finish the trip at 5-5, so they have to take 2 of 3 from the Angels. Victor Martinez is coming back, so help is on the way. Though it looks really bad now, the starting pitching has pitched well too, so there is hope. The "post of the day" (www.thesportsstuff.com/boards) is handed out, and in the "Around the League" segment, Alex breaks down the AL standings, the Dan Haren trade, and explains what the new criteria should be for judging a Hall of Famer, since numbers seem more and more meaningless.
