Drew and Dustin were joined by two fantastic guests who share a deep passion for simply throwing the baseball. Baseball guru Alan Jaeger of Jaeger Sports and Texas head coach David Pierce joined to discuss an array of very important topics like arm care, benefits of long toss, the importance of feel and athleticism, the year-round throwing calendar and much more. But most importantly, the two shared a passion for and explained the importance of simply throwing and getting back to the basics of throwing.
Alan Jaeger founded Jaeger Sports on the principle that athletes need to develop both their physical and mental skills in order to be successful in game situations. He is one of the most well respected and sought after trainers in both of these crucial aspects of baseball. Get your notepads ready because you won't want to miss any part of the best baseball information out there!

As we do once a month or so, the C-10 Podcast features a conversation that took place in front of our C-10 Mentoring & Leadership students and mentors. And that's what we're doing this week.On this episode, we are joined by the Vice President of Jaeger Sports, China McCarney. Jaegers Sports is known around the world as a leader in athletic stretch bands known as J-Bands. Jaeger Sports specialize in arm health, arm conditioning and mental training for baseball and softball.Originally from Southern California, China was the ultimate five-tool baseball player in high school and was named CIF Player of the Year in 2005 at Vasquez High School. He played collegiately at College of the Canyons and Cal State Northridge. He was drafted in 2008 by Cleveland and in 2009 by Tampa. He has a bachelor's of science in psychology with an emphasis in kinesiology and is certified in Sport and Fitness psychology. In addition to his role with Jaeger Sports, he is the founder of Athletes Against Anxiety and Depression.China started the foundation because he deals with anxiety on a daily basis, and felt the need and desire to “Be The Change” instead of waiting for a change. China resisted and fought his anxiety disorder for five years before he finally decided to attack it head on.He discovered that the second he embraced anxiety as just being a part of who he was, just like all of his other attributes, it no longer had the severe crippling effect that it had in the past. As he began to study anxiety and depression, he realized what a stigma the mental health issues had. That stigma is a huge part of the problem. People feel they have to be embarrassed because they are dealing with one or more of these issues and they hide and hold on to it as tightly as they possibly can. This conversation was a C-10 session on Zoom with China, along with our students and mentors. Stann Tate, one of the original mentors in the C-10 program, is filling in as the host this week. In addition to hearing from Stann, you'll hear outstanding questions from some of the high school students in the C-10 Mentoring & Leadership program. He also has a Zen-like approach to the mental side of the game, in which he teaches his players relaxing meditation techniques. His premise on mental philosophy is basically that players should devote the same time and energy that is placed on the physical side of the game. Here is a direct quote from Alan which in my opinion summarizes his philosophy “Your mind is what allows your physical preparation to take over in game situations”. Alan has worked these techniques with hundreds of professional players, including 2002 Cy Young Award Winner Barry Zito, and All-Stars Dan Haren and Andrew Bailey. Today we talk about the approach and strategy of the mental side, why it's important to be “process-oriented” instead of “results-oriented and “breath, focus and attack” along with some other methods and their application.
Bold statement from today's podcast guest, VP and CFO of Jaeger Sports, China McCarney: “If you're healthier, you can train more.” MOST of us aren't taking the proper care of our arms before we train and it's leading to wayyy to many injuries these days. Here, we talk about how to take the proper care of our arms consistently, and we even end with some mental training to help you have more of a clear mind when you play! Have you ever been in the ZONE? What exactly does being in the ZONE mean? Athletes and professionals in all fields often times talk about the art of getting into the zone. This state of mind is where you merely do not think and react purely on natural instinct. Whether you hit a homerun or drain the game winning 3 of the NBA Finals, athletes experience an enhanced state of mind: The Zone. Alan Jaeger of Jaeger Sports joins us for today's episode to talk about how exactly you can get yourself into the ZONE as an athlete, business professional, or every day human being. Jaeger is a 28 year professional in the field of peak performance and personal development and created the infamous Jaeger Bands. He has worked with teams from the UCLA Bruins to Major League Baseball by teaching a simple practice: Meditation. Meditation and visualization is the art of controlling and focusing on your breath to allow the mind and body to enter a restful state. This practice allows athletes to relax, clear their mind, and enter into the zone. In modern day society we deal with so many distractions on a daily basis which ultimately cloud our mind with fogginess, prohibiting us from performing at our best. You are going to find MASSIVE value from this podcast as we take a deeper dive into the practice of meditation and how to enter into a zen state. Please share and subscribe to this podcast as our goal is to impact millions of people in this world! www.majorleagueuniversity.com

In this week's episode, we welcome Alan Jaeger from Jaeger Sports back into the studio to open up a moving dialogue on the importance of bringing Mental Practice into your practice plans and into the culture in our program. Jaeger has mentioned countless times on social media “you become what you practice” and he is calling for coaches to bring this element of training to their players to better prepare them for the demands of the game. We cover a cornucopia of topics and ideas while taking questions directly from our listenership and delivering them to Jaeger over the airwaves. Questions range from the practice of meditation and breathing to the details of visualization and how to guide players through the uncovering of their own process. The most prominent point made throughout this show is that we do not need to have our Master's Degree in Sports Psychology to implement this into our practice plan.

In this week’s episode, we welcome Alan Jaeger from Jaeger Sports back into the studio to open up a moving dialogue on the importance of bringing Mental Practice into your practice plans and into the culture in our program. The most prominent point made throughout this show is that we do not need to have our Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology to implement this into our practice plan.

Alan Jaeger walks David through an incredible guided meditation and shares the steps needed to properly prepare for a successful session. Alan founded Jaeger Sports on the principle that athletes need to develop both their physical and mental skills in order to be successful in game situations. As a result of several years of coaching and and personal study was Alan's Mental Training Book, "Getting Focused, Staying Focused”. With a teachers training background in Yoga and practitioner of such Far Eastern Arts as Zen and Taoism, Alan's intention is to help athletes merge the "mechanics" of the Western athlete with the "insight" of the Far Eastern mind–to position athletes to best realize their potential on and off the playing field. Alan has worked on the mental side of the game with Major League Players from Cy Young award winner Barry Zito to All-Star pitcher Dan Haren. The powers that be decided to let Jeff "airquotes" Herr run the show this week and he put together a doozy. After opening with the end of the Royals losing streak and how bad it actually got. In our second segment, we were joined by Alan Jaeger of Jaeger Sports. Alan is an expert in pitching mechanics and trains the "long toss" program. We spoke with him about the pros and cons of Minor Leaguers using long toss and how that training program is sometimes squelched by Major League clubs. We examine those issues in great detail. Then, in our third segment Jeff has some very strong opinions on how the Royals handle their pitching. Finally, we let the cat out of the bag on what our "Big" announcement is. This is an exclusive to our great listeners so you'll hear it here first. We really appreciate the support and look forward to you hearing us (maybe in some other places?) in the future.
