When I consider some of the best moments in the history of Gaucho Baseball there are instantly a few that come to mind; Sam Cohen's walk off grand slam to send UCSB to the CWS in 2016, Joey Epperson's walk off homer against UC Irvine in 2013 & Chris Malec's homer off of Jered Weaver returning from cancer in 2005. Now insert LeTrey McCollum's walk off 2-run home run to complete the cycle on Sunday v CSUN into that list, the first cycle for UCSB since Michael Young's in 1997. McCollum joins us this week on the podcast to talk about he thrilling moment, as well as UCSB Analytics to break down the previous 8 games which saw the Gauchos go 7-1 and improve to 14-2 (3-0 BW). UCSB now ranks as high as 15 amongst the various polls and has been between 90-100 in the RPI after week 4. Gauchos fly to Honolulu to resume BigWest play v Hawaii beginning at 935pst on Friday night, audio only will be available for all of the games on UCSBGauchos.com.
Former Detroit Tigers player Carlos Guillén — a three-time All-Star who played 14 MLB seasons — joins the "Days of Roar" podcast to discuss teammate Ichiro Suzuki joining the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Guillén also talks about three other names in the Hall of Fame conversation: C.C. Sabathia, Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran. Does A-Rod deserve to be in the Hall of Fame despite being suspended for performance-enhancing drugs? Guillén has an opinion about that. After the Hall of Fame talk, Guillén breaks down his eight-year career with the Tigers, which included playing for Hall of Fame manager Jim Leyland, getting to the World Series in 2006 and hitting a legendary home run off Jered Weaver. In other segments of the show, Evan and Mark provide the latest update on the Alex Bregman situation, check out the available relievers on the free-agent market, evaluate Roki Sasaki's decision not to meet with the Tigers and consider what it means if the Tigers are done adding to the 2025 roster. Follow Evan on X/Twitter here. Read Evan's most recent work here
Marking the podcast's return, Teed Up hosts Matthew Gomez and Matthew Coleman debut season four joined by the new Dirtbags head coach, TJ Bruce. Yet to make his official head coaching debut at Long Beach State, Bruce formerly played and worked as part of the Dirtbags staff for six seasons between 2004-2010. He highlights his relationships with Dirtbag legends Jered Weaver and Troy Tulowitzki and recaps a memorable 2004 season that saw him and his teammates host the Long Beach Super Regional in a series loss to the University of Arizona. With fall practices approaching, Bruce shares what it will take to improve the Dirtbags and how they might be considered a true competitor again and not just another mid-major. Recruiting and departures become a constant conversation as the hosts analyze what the roster will eventually look like and how familiar faces will be replaced from last season's roster. In this episode of Sports the NEMO Way we bring the best Angels of all time to the table for discussion.
The Los Angeles Angels are seeking a new manager for the 2024 season, and the candidates reported over the weekend added to an already list of intriguing names include Torii Hunter, Tim Salmon, and Ron Roenicke. While other candidates like Buck Showalter have an edge in terms of experience, would someone who hasn't managed before like Salmon or Hunter do well with the Halos? Mike and Jon share the names that intrigue them the most and explain how it might work in Anaheim! Then, the Angels are going to need a new pitching coach, as Matt Wise has moved on to the Chicago White Sox as reported last week. So, what names around the league might make sense? The Super Halo Bros. have a list of names that they'd want to see come to the Angels, but they would certainly be big gets if they were to do so. We'll discuss it all in segment 2!Plus, what about a former Angel coming in and becoming the pitching coach? Would a name like Jered Weaver, Chuck Finley, or even Mark Gubicza make sense? While fans certainly love their favorites from years past, Jon explains what makes a strong pitching coach and why some of these could work, and some might not.GET IN OUR VOICEMAIL! The Los Angeles Angels 'Angel' the Mariners on Monday night, as a back-and-forth battle into extra innings saw some late-game heroics from Brandon Drury, Nolan Schanuel, Zach Neto, and Randal Grichuk to put the Angels up over the Ms, 8-5! It came after Reid Detmers went pitch for pitch with Seattle's Logan Gilbert, and while the Angels gained and lost the lead to an unreal Julio Rodriguez home run, the Halos gave the Mariners the ol' "Tungsten Arm" O'Doyle treatment to J-Rod while knocking the Mariners out of the Wildcard for the time being. We've got a full recap (and some gloating) in segment 1!Then, after Mariners starter George Kirby shared some comments about not feeling like he could continue into the late innings of a game, Jered Weaver shared some of his not-so-PG thoughts on Twitter. We're responding to his comments and also asking, is he right? Would a player like Weaver succeed in today's game as a coach? We'll get into all of it in segments 2 and 3!GET IN OUR VOICEMAIL! Holy Clickbait!! We're diving back into an episode full of Los Angeles Angels talk, but first, Mike and Jon start things out with the latest regarding the MLB Lockout. (4:30) Then, it's time to dive into our predictions for what happens after the new CBA is reached, and we begin with a discussion about who's leading off for the Halos in 2022! (14:03) What do the Angels do about the shortstop position? Will we see Luis Rengifo, Tyler Wade, or perhaps an outside pickup in Andrelton Simmons, Carlos Correa, or Trevor Story? (19:16) The Bros. build the lineup they'd like to see the Angels implement this season and make a case for why their individual 1-9s might be the best option. (27:09) Plus, Mike Trout; 3-time MVP, the face of the Angels, an unmatched talent, and a certified future Hall of Famer is... BORING?!? What's the deal with that? Mike and Jon explain what they mean and how fans are letting his greatness pass them by. (33:40) Then, the brothers put together their six-man starting rotations, which include the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Noah Syndergaard, Patrick Sandoval, and more! (42:45). Finally, we take a look at the meme Jon made over the weekend that many took part in, and that's the "Build Your All-Time Angels Starting Rotation for $15!" With so many great starters in Angels' history to choose from like Nolan Ryan, Jered Weaver, Bartolo Colon, and many many more, we put together our picks and share some of your thoughts! As the MLB Lockout continues, some changes are set to take place in AAA with the implementation of robot umpires, and Mike and Jon discuss the pros and cons, what it means for pitchers moving between the major and the minors, and Jered Weaver's take on the idea. (6:01) Speaking of negotiations, there's been some interesting compromises brought to the bargaining table, and the Bros. share their unfiltered thoughts on what's at stake for the future of the game. (14:22) Then, sit down, because we need to talk about shortstop. The Halo Bros. look at the Angels' options for the middle infield, and Jon shares some thoughts from Rob of the 4 Train Savages podcast (@FourSavages), who provides his take on former Yankee Tyler Wade and how he might contribute this season. (27:59) We've all seen the tweet from legend Rod Carew regarding his allegiance to the Halos and the Minnesota Twins, but what do Mike and Jon make of his statement about the Angels not involving him with the team? What does this say about the past, present, and future of the Los Angeles Angels? (38:29) The team added a new member in the form of Trey Hillman, who will work in the organization's player development and seems to be a nice get! (48:44) Then, take us back to 2008 with a festival of our own; forget "When We Were Young," we're going to "When We Were Good!" (51:19) Finally, the brothers share their thoughts on David Ortiz's election to the Hall of Fame and the snub of Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. As MLB's Opening Day draws near, brothers Mike and Jon make several predictions for the 2021 season, including the National League and American League MVP, NL and AL Cy Young Winners, and the Rookie of the Year for both leagues! The brothers discuss Jon's Twitter interaction with his new bestie and all-time Angels great, Jered Weaver! Mike and Jon discuss the Los Angeles Angels' schedule as they start out against the Chicago White Sox, the Houston Astros and their garbage can-banging ways, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Kansas City Royals. Can the Halos overcome the potential CY Young candidate Lucas Giolito? Will they avoid the Blue Jays' run-scoring ability now that they've added George Springer with a lineup that includes Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette? Joined by Abe Alvarez today on the Too Tall Sports Podcast. The Left-Handed pitcher was a 2nd round pick of the Boston Red Sox back in 2003 out of Long Beach State. He was in the big leagues in 2004, having the quickest jump from draft to the show, in franchise history! Abe shares some stories from his childhood including being diagnosed as legally blind in his left eye and having to deal with that socially as a kid and overcoming that athletically as well. It didn't stop his progress and dominance as he was a 2-time Big West conference pitcher of the year and 2-time All American during his college years at Long Beach State. Abe had the opportunity to play with big name players like Troy Tulowitzki and Jered Weaver in college and of course the other big names you know for the champion 2004 Red Sox team. We discuss his post career coaching stops in high school and college and what it's like now being a member of the staff at the University of Nevada-Reno. Please enjoy the episode and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, RATE and REVIEW where you can to help the show, we would really appreciate it!Links:Twitter: @TooTallSportsInstagram: @tootallsportspodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOT1dawh_079qckq7OmFHAQFacebook: Too Tall Sports PodcastEmail: tootallsportspodcast@gmail.com

Excitement filled the stadium before first pitch, especially with Halo legend Jered Weaver throwing out the ceremonial ball. However, those feelings quickly turned into disappointment, as the Indians picked up consecutive win #12 against the Angels.Traded away for Vinnie Pestano a few years ago, Mike Clevinger has made it known that he gears up a bit for any start against his former organization, and it showed in a big way on Monday. Clevinger mixed pitches, commanded the inside corner, and received very defensive swings from the Angel lineup all evening long. That, coupled with some lackadaisical defense from the normally stout Halo defense, led to their demise in the opener at the Big A.Later in the show, a lot of rosters have been announced for the Angels' minor league affiliates that open up play this week. We take a look at where the top prospects are headed so that you can keep an eye on them along with us all season long in our Down on the Farm Report.Lastly, which Angels' logo over the years is your favorite? Here are a few things that are painful. A messy divorce, oral surgery, a tattoo on your private parts and watching Jered Weaver pitch in 2017. My dude can't break the speed limit with his fastball, or so it appears. His fastball is so slow that CC Sabathia beat it in a footrace. I'm talking slow. So join Earl and the Colonel as they list their roster of players that really just need to go away now. For the good of everyone involved.
