The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are conducting a high-profile search for a new offensive coordinator after parting ways with Josh Grizzard following an 8–9 season and a missed playoff berth in 2025. Among the names they're exploring is Dan Pitcher, the Bengals' offensive coordinator, who is scheduled to interview with Tampa Bay this week. Pitcher, 39, has been on the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff since 2016, ascending from offensive assistant to quarterbacks coach and then offensive coordinator for the past two seasons. Though he holds the OC title in Cincinnati, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor retains play-calling duties, which means Pitcher hasn't had an opportunity to call plays in regular-season games. Taylor has granted him permission to interview with teams offering play-calling offensive coordinator roles, making the Buccaneers' opening a potentially significant career move. The interview represents both an opportunity and a challenge. On paper, it could be seen as a lateral move in terms of job title, but for Pitcher it's a rare chance to step into a role where he would directly run the offense on game days — something he hasn't done in Cincinnati. His track record includes helping develop quarterback Joe Burrow into one of the NFL's premier passers, which is a major selling point for Tampa Bay as they look to revitalize an offense that underperformed in key areas last season. Tampa Bay's coaching search has been extensive, with interviews already held with several candidates including former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Ravens OC Todd Monken, and others. Pitcher adds another experienced offensive mind to that mix as the Buccaneers weigh their next steps. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap). On Thursday's Orange and Brown Talk podcast, Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock and Dan Labbe react to John Harbaugh taking the head coaching job with the Giants. They discuss why the Giants were a more attractive destination and why the Browns never really got a chance to make their pitch. Then, they reset the Browns' coaching search and take a deep dive into some of the top candidates. They discuss the pros and cons of hiring a defensive-minded coach like Rams DC Chris Shula and how his 3-4 scheme would fit with the Browns' current personnel. They also look at the young, up-and-coming offensive candidates, including Jaguars OC Grant Udinski and Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, and wonder if the Browns' uncertain quarterback situation will be a deterrent. Finally, they discuss internal candidates like Tommy Rees and what the future might hold for the staff as the search continues. A seismic shift has rocked the AFC North. With Mike Tomlin stepping down as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers after 19 years, the division's landscape is changing dramatically. Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock and Dan Labbe kick off the Orange and Brown Talk podcast by breaking down the monumental news and what it means for the Browns. They discuss the changing of the guard with both Tomlin and John Harbaugh gone from their long-tenured posts, creating a massive opportunity for the Browns to seize the moment and return to respectability in a now wide-open division. Then, Lance Reisland joins the show for a deep dive into the Browns' coaching search. Lance provides detailed scouting reports on some of the top candidates, both well-known and under-the-radar. He talks with Dan about the potential fits of Cincinnati's Dan Pitcher, Jacksonville's young offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, the Rams' Nathan Scheelhaase and Miami's Mike McDaniel. They weigh the risks and rewards of hiring a young, brilliant mind versus a more established coach and discuss what it takes to succeed as a head coach in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns are deep into their search for a new head coach after parting ways with Kevin Stefanski, and Dan Pitcher — the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive coordinator — has emerged as a genuine candidate. The Browns have officially requested permission to interview Pitcher for their head coaching vacancy, which indicates they see his offensive experience and ties to Browns GM Andrew Berry as assets worth exploring. Pitcher, 38, has been with the Bengals since 2016 and has risen through the ranks from offensive assistant to offensive coordinator, working closely with star quarterback Joe Burrow and contributing to one of the top passing offenses in the league during his tenure. His ascent to OC in 2024 was successful statistically, with Cincinnati ranking high in passing yardage and scoring in his first full year in that role. While the Browns' interest doesn't guarantee a departure, it puts Pitcher in the mix against established coaches and other younger offensive minds — including internal Browns candidates and experienced NFL coordinators. Cleveland has already conducted interviews with several potential hires and continues to evaluate a broad slate. If the Browns do hire Pitcher, it would represent a significant move for him — from a coordinator spot in Cincinnati to an NFL head coach role in Cleveland. It would also affect Bengals staffing, potentially prompting Cincinnati to look internally or externally for his replacement. The situation reflects a broader trend of teams prioritizing young, offensive-minded coaches with quarterback development experience. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap). The Browns' head coaching search is in full swing, and on this episode of the Orange and Brown Talk podcast, Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock and Dan Labbe dive into the early candidates. They start by discussing the two in-house coordinators set to interview: Jim Schwartz and Tommy Rees. Could the 33-year-old Rees be the next Sean McVay, or is the risk too high? Would hiring Schwartz be a popular move that keeps the successful defense intact? The crew also looks at Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher and his history with Andrew Berry. Then, Lance Reisland joins the show to break down the film from the season finale against the Bengals, focusing on Shedeur Sanders' performance. Lance also weighs in on the coaching search, offering his high praise for Ravens OC Todd Monken and sharing his thoughts on the Browns possibly hiring Schwartz or Rees. To wrap up, Dan and Lance draft their biggest storylines from the 2025 NFL season, discussing everything from the rise of defenses and the analytics vs. feel debate to the importance of figuring it out at quarterback and the league's persistent injury problem. Highlights: The Browns have fired head coach Kevin Stefanski after a tumultuous week. A fan asks about the team's "smart, tough, accountable" mantra, which Terry says faded with the controversial arrival of quarterback Deshaun Watson. Some fans defend Stefanski, arguing he was a scapegoat for a flawed roster built by the front office. Terry suggests the firing was justified, as Stefanski had "run out of gas" and lost his way as a play-caller. Unlike past firings, there was no public "internal discord" between the head coach and general manager. Hiring a veteran coach like John Harbaugh is considered a fan fantasy, as he would likely seek a more stable situation. Current defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is a leading internal candidate, offering maturity and continuity for the top-tier defense. External offensive coordinator candidates like Dan Pitcher and Todd Monken are being vetted, with Monken's experience making him a more compelling option. Seahawks DC Aden Durde is an intriguing but unproven candidate. Stefanski is expected to land another job quickly and may be relieved to be free from the pressure of coaching the Browns. While unattractive to established coaches, the Browns' head coaching job is a coveted opportunity for coordinators seeking their first chance. A stark statistic reveals the Browns have finished last in their division 16 times in the last 23 years, underscoring the team's long-term struggles. Running back Nick Chubb made a successful return from a catastrophic knee injury, playing in 15 games. Darius Garland's recent aggressive play and return to form have provided a significant boost for the Cavs. The emergence of Craig Porter Jr. has earned him a key role in the Cavaliers' rotation at the expense of veteran Lonzo Ball. The Guardians took a second baseman instead of an outfielder with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 draft. A listener asks: Why? The hosts pay tribute to the versatile talent and career of 100-year-old actor Dick Van Dyke. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In a boost for the floundering Cincinnati Bengals, star quarterback Joe Burrow returned to practice on Monday, November 10, 2025, as the team designated him to return from injured reserve, opening his 21-day practice window. Sidelined since Week 2 with a Grade III turf toe injury requiring surgery on his right big toe, Burrow has been absent for nearly two months, contributing to the Bengals' dismal 3-6 start and third-place standing in the AFC North. The injury, initially projected as season-ending, has seen Burrow defy expectations, accelerating his rehab timeline. Burrow participated in limited drills, focusing on footwork and passing without full contact, and remains on IR until activation—potentially as soon as this week, though he confirmed he won't suit up for Sunday's clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The window, expiring December 1, gives coaches Zac Taylor and Dan Pitcher flexibility to ramp up his workload while preserving roster spots. Burrow's optimism shone through post-practice: "It would be 'very' meaningful to play Thanksgiving night vs. the Ravens," he said, alluding to the heated rivalry that has defined recent playoff battles. When pressed if Baltimore on November 27 (Week 13) is his target, the 28-year-old paused thoughtfully: "We'll see." For a Bengals squad leaking points at 33.3 per game defensively, Burrow's return could be transformative. Cincinnati's offense, sans its field general, has leaned on backup Jake Browning's steady hand but lacks the explosiveness that propelled them to the Super Bowl in 2021. A Thanksgiving debut against Lamar Jackson's Ravens—tied atop the division at 7-2—would ignite Who Dey Nation, especially with the AFC North "wide open" per Burrow. Fantasy managers, take note: Stash him now during the bye, as a December surge looms Burrow's resilience mirrors his career arc—from 2020 debut to MVP-caliber 2023. If he navigates the toe's lingering pain without setback, expect vintage deep balls to Ja'Marr Chase by month's end. The Bengals' playoff hopes, dim at 3-6, flicker brighter. As Burrow quipped, "Limitless hopes" ahead. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap). Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengal's major offensive improvements in their week 2 thriller against the Kansas City Chiefs. Coach Pitcher and Coach Taylor had an amazing game plan against the Chiefs in Week 2, and a big weapon in that game plan was the usage of the Bengal's tight ends. Burrow had a career day throwing to his tight ends, who totaled 14 receptions for 151 yards. Erick All and Mike Gesicki were the big standouts that will have a pivotal role going forward in the 2024 season. Even though the Bengals lost a thriller vs the defending Super Bowl champions it was great to see the offense back in rhythm after a rough first game against the Patriots. The Bengals will look to continue their success against the Washington Commanders on MNF in Week 3. We want to thank Coach Pitcher for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics.
