He is totally blind and graduated from traditional school! He sold carnival rides on his own website. Maxwell decided to start a blog so others can learn from him and now he is a podcaster, author and motivational speaker. Maxwell has written 3 books to teach about adversity. What message do you get from this interview? It all came about when Heidi was dealing with thoughts of suicide, inadequacy, and dealing with infertility. She realized as she reached out to others and heard their stories, she would be uplifted and inspired no matter what she was going through. So this podcast has old "Original" shows from that time period. It also has "New" shows that are currently being recorded with new guests. And it has "Update" shows where Heidi reached out to original radio show guests to find out how the past 20 years have been! Theme song written and recorded by Heidi's baby brother Shane! In today's episode, I talk to Maxwell Ivey, the Blind Blogger, about his childhood spent in his family run carnival. It taught him a lot about life generally, and also give him the skills he would need as an independent blind person.Skills like seeing past his ego and asking for, and accepting, help where he needed it. Or, of asking for what you want, not just what you need. As Max says, if you don't ask someone you don't give them the opportunity to say yes!We talk about how writing, and being creative generally, is good for your mental health. It makes you feel good about yourself and lets you connect with others who ‘get' you.A big component of what Max teaches is to look for the positive in life and he gives me examples of when he's been challenged and had to work hard to see the positive in a situation - but it's always there if you look for it.This is so relevant to you as a writer because there will be times that you don't like what you write, or an agent rejects your manuscript or short story. How will you navigate those challenging times so that you come out the other side still in tact?He gives advice on how to start and run a blog or podcast, so if that's something you've been thinking about, this interview is a great listen.Max is building a network called the WYE Network (What's Your Excuse) with the aim of helping disabled people start and publish their own podcast, and support the disability community. As always, you'll find all links in the show notes.Links:The Blind Blogger – Helping you share your story and grow your passion through the power of TV, radio, and podcast interviews. What's Your Excuse Show – What's Your Excuse? The Blind Blogger – Maxwell Ivey pt 2 (https://kcrpodcast.com/?attachment_id=98878) Born into a family of carnival owners in Texas, USA, Maxwell Ivey lost his sight at age 12. Having a natural gusto for life, Max graduated college and became heavily involved in the Eagle Scouts. He also worked in the family business alongside brothers until his father succumbed to lung cancer. Faced with his own mortality, Max made some life-altering changes. He underwent gastric surgery and lost over 250 pounds. He started his own business, buying and selling amusement rides, and learned how to blog using software for visually-impaired people. Overcoming many obstacles, Max made a name for himself online and now shares his experiences on The Blind Blogger. Max’s favorite things entail teaching and helping others to achieve their goals. So in addition to his blogging page, he has his own podcast, “What’s Your Excuse” and he also has a personal coaching and branding business! And he is a published author with his book, “Leading You Out of Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success.”AMEN! All of this information is available at Maxwell’s website, www.theblindblogger.net (http://www.theblindblogger.net/) You started off in the carnival business. Everyone sees the lights, the sounds, the clowns and everyone having a good time. But what is it like behind the scenes? It’s a hard life, correct? You lost your eyesight at age 12, I believe. Can you tell us what happened? How did you handle that experience, initially? We will get into what you are doing now in just a bit. Did your Faith help you through those times? And you are still involved in the carnival business, kind of “behind the scenes” in selling equipment, correct? What is involved with that? Ok, let’s shift gears now. You’ve faced health issues over the years. I read that you lost over 250 pounds! How did you do that? Let’s talk about your book, “Leading You Out of Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success.” That was published in 2014. Tell us about your book… I briefly mentioned your consulting business. Let’s talk about that for a few minutes. You help others to build their brands. What is involved in that? You also appear on podcasts such as this one, correct? If someone is listening now and they are going through something… It may not be a loss of eye sight, but it is “something” big to them, what words of wisdom can you give to that person? What advice can you give them, if they are listening right now? Maxwell, if someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question or maybe to have you do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I’m going to be putting links to all of this, your book and podcast as well, down in the show notes. Folks, to quote Maxwell Ivey’s podcast name, “What’s Your Excuse?” You’ve heard some of the things that Maxwell has gone through. But notice the key phrase here, “…has GONE through.” He is not “there.” He has “gone through.” He has moved on to greater things. We cannot pick and choose most of battles. We sometimes cannot understand WHY things have happened. I know, I’ve been through some things myself. But we can KNOW that God is always with us, leading us and guiding us. We just need to make ourselves available. Because whatever we are going through, God can use to inspire someone else that needs it as well. Maxwell, thank you for taking the time to visit with us today. I want you to come back on the program anytime you feel like you have something else to share! I encourage you to get in touch with Maxwell Ivey, get a copy of his books, and allow him to help you to answer the question, “What’s Your Excuse?” CONTACT INFORMATION: Email: justask@theblindblogger.net (mailto:justask@theblindblogger.net) Website: www.theblindblogger.net...

In today’s time where technology has made life simple, it is surprising that many people still make things complicated and prepare a list of excuses to be lazy. When you want something so bad, nothing can ever stop you from getting hold of it, not even being blind. The blind community may not see anything physically, but a vision is not just what you see, it also means your purpose and that doesn’t require you to be 20/20. The Blind Blogger Maxwell Ivey inspires us with his story on how he conquered the challenges of being visually-impaired and still pursued entrepreneurship. Author of Leading You Out of the Darkness Into the Light, Maxwell reveals the secret for getting butts in the seats and details about his other books. Love the show? And some things that just totally, you know, ruin everybody else's day just don't bother me. I mean, a perfect example is the number of people who have lost focus over the elections. To me, I just have a good laugh at all of that stuff and go about my work Thoughts on Breathing You know, I don't focus that much on breathing, but as somebody who likes to sing, I noticed that, when I'm singing, that that helps me. It helps me think, helps me focus, and I like to refer to it as one of my ways of what I call modern meditation. My parents relocated me to a different school district. My father worked construction before he was in the carnival business; sometimes we were in Texas and sometimes we were South Carolina. For a short time I went to a school where I was made fun of a bit because of my weight and there was one day where I didn't realize they were being mean until after it was over with. The other kids got me to sit on one end of a seesaw and then they wanted to see how many kids it would take on the other end to make it go up and down. I think it ended up being like six or seven kids and at the time it was funny, but later on my parents were not happy. So I realized that this was not a funny thing. So they decided to move me to a different school at that point. And whenever we lived in Texas in Spring, which is where my family is from, I hardly ever had trouble with that [bullying], because my grandfather had moved all of his family out to this area, it was the country at that time. And so if you went to school with the Ivey's, you also went to school with the Wagner's the Server's to Crouches. So if they mess with one of us, they had to mess with all of us. The approach the show was supposed to take as I envisioned it didn't come out well because Dave neither agreed to the type of show I wanted nor was he interested in performing an atheist-centric show. Topics include, the Devolution of mankind, the Artificial Night Sky and a verbal exchange with an atheist caller. Dave had spoken on atheism prior to his call, completely destroying it, while also covering the concept that we are all born into the the Cult of Society.
