In this episode of The Blueprint Podcast, Jason welcomes Ciara Devereux, a licensed psychotherapist, trauma, grief, and loss specialist, and public speaker based in San Francisco. With a background spanning addiction recovery, post-incarceration rehabilitation, and relationship counseling, Ciara brings a wealth of experience to the conversation. She shares how her own personal journey led her into the mental health space, emphasizing the importance of radical self-ownership and the power of rewriting the stories we tell ourselves. Together, Jason and Ciara dive deep into why people-pleasing keeps so many stuck in cycles of external validation and self-sacrifice. They explore the hidden cost of avoiding conflict, the role of shame in shaping identity, and how unprocessed emotions often manifest as anger, anxiety, and avoidance. Ciara introduces the concept of “if you spot it, you got it,” explaining how our triggers reveal deep-seated wounds and offer opportunities for growth. The discussion shifts to relationships and attachment, breaking down the anxious-avoidant cycle and why so many people mistake familiarity for love. Ciara challenges the narrative of waiting for external validation and explains why true transformation begins with internal work. She also provides insight into why boundary-setting is difficult and how men, in particular, struggle to advocate for their own needs due to societal conditioning. As the conversation unfolds, Jason and Ciara examine grief, trauma, and the misconceptions surrounding healing. They discuss why grief is often misunderstood, how to recognize its presence in everyday life, and why people unknowingly carry unresolved loss into relationships and decision-making. Ciara shares strategies for self-regulation, including how shifting internal narratives can create a foundation for lasting change. The episode concludes with an exploration of the future of mental health and the shift toward self-healing. Ciara emphasizes the need for emotional literacy, particularly for men, and highlights the importance of building real-life community and mentorship. She challenges the traditional approach to therapy, advocating for a more holistic and empowering model that places individuals in control of their own healing. For those looking to connect with Ciara, she can be found on TikTok and Instagram under RealTalkTherapy. She also offers coaching for individuals navigating relational distress and personal transformation. Nicole Liddell is one of those people who embodies everything I bang on about here on Roll With The Punches. She's lived it, processed it, and come out swinging on the other side with wisdom that'll make you stop in your tracks... And thus, I could not have asked her any quicker to drop in behind the mic and have a chat with me.  Nicole's years on this planet so far have been a full-blown rollercoaster. From raising three kids as a single mum, wrestling with her relationship with her body, diving into a psychology degree, and now smashing out a PhD on intimate partner violence, she's done the hard yards. But it's the inner work she's done - the messy, confronting, beautiful stuff - that really made me lean in. We talk about shame, self-compassion, boundaries, forgiveness (or the lack of it), and how our stories shape our lives - positively if we let them. Nicole doesn't sugarcoat her journey, and she doesn't shy away from the tough stuff. Her insights into self-awareness, trauma, and empowerment will have you nodding, crying, and maybe even journaling like a boss. This is a conversation for anyone who's ever felt a little lost, a little stuck, or like you're standing in the middle of your own mess wondering how the hell to find your way out. Nicole's here to show you that on the other side of that mess is something incredible... YOU, in all your unapologetic glory.   SPONSORED BY TESTART FAMILY LAWYERS Website: testartfamilylawyers.com.au TIFFANEE COOK Linktree: linktr.ee/rollwiththepunches/ Website: tiffcook.com LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/tiffaneecook/ Facebook: facebook.com/rollwiththepunchespodcast/ Instagram: instagram.com/rollwiththepunches_podcast/ Instagram: instagram.com/tiffaneeandco    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We cultivate within us a vibration of love that heals, What if taking care of you is part of taking care of the world? If you live tenderly on the inside could it contribute to more tenderness in your life and in those whose lives you touch? Can you be tender with what causes you to feel pain? Burning Man culture brings people together across all kinds of divides. Yet, we're seeing an uptick of intolerance around art and experiences in our community. The default world is often divided by ideology, religion, and politics. Could that division seep into this culture that aspires to welcome everyone and rise above social schisms? As a community, how can we navigate the turbulent waters between, say, Radical Self-expression and Radical Inclusion? How do we walk the line between free speech and hate speech? How do we keep our global community together in times of outright war?Tune into a roundtable discussion about concerns that don't have easy solutions. Four thinkers in the Burning Man global cultural movement explore how the act of conversation changes what might otherwise seem controversial or divisive:• Stuart Mangrum is Burning Man Project's Director of the Philosophical Center so he directed some philosophers to center around a microphone to discuss.• Caveat Magister debated and discussed Burning Man philosophy, then wrote books about it.• Kay Morrison is a veteran Black Rock City artist, active in the Global Network, and a Burning Man Project board member.• Steven Raspa is Associate Director of Community Events for Burning Man Project, and a co-founder of the Regional Network Committee. This conversation concerns art, yes, and behavior — as participants, as people. It's about being open-minded and open-hearted, even when it's difficult to do. What is a safe space? What is a brave space? How can jackassery be respectful? What's with all the questions? Gaslit Nation
Radical Self-Reliance: Demand Accountability [TEASER]

Gaslit Nation

Gaslit Nation launched in 2018 to help build the Blue Wave, which set up progressive infrastructure that expands today, including in states like Kansas. In Virginia in 2023, our community produced one of the largest phone banks for Sister District, helping to get out the vote, flipping the Senate, and helping elect Danica Roem, the first transgender person to serve in the state Senate. We also protected abortion rights from Posh Trump Glenn Youngkin. An early September 2023 Gaslit Nation episode highlighted the work of the States Project, which raised more money for Virginia than the Democratic Party. Why? Because grassroots power is the most reliable power we have left. We are the answer to the decades-long mission of the corporate-backed far-right to dismantle our democracy. No one is coming to save us but us. That's why our listeners are the least likely to be demoralized by the news that the Supreme Court will drag out Trump's January 6 insurrection case, the one Merrick Garland's DOJ already waited out the clock on, losing valuable time as the coup plotters like Trump and Bannon continue to mobilize their genocidal far-right army. Ivanka and Jared dine with politicians from both parties and continue to serve as anonymous sources for the media that, in return, tries to rehabilitate their (banana republic grifter) reputations. This week's bonus show, answering questions from our listeners, features a special focus on the murder of Nex Benedict, a gender-fluid trans teen killed by the incitement of hate and violence driven by Chaya Raichik of Libs of TikTok and Oklahoma state school superintendent Ryan Walters, who appointed Raichik to terrorize vulnerable children and their allies. While the grief and anger over the lack of accountability are immense, there are solutions to what we can do, no matter if we live in a Republican-hostage state or a so-called blue state. Other questions from our listeners range from the latest news on the Havana Syndrome mystery and cover-up, must-see places to visit in New York, and whether George Santos will end up on Dancing with the Stars (he will!), and more. If you didn't hear your question answered this week, look out for it next week, as our Q&A continues. Thank you to everyone who supports the show – we could not make Gaslit Nation without you! Happy 'Love' month! I like to focus on self-love this month. I don't think anyone needs advice on how to love their friends and family more.. I think we could take a tiny fraction of the energy we spend loving others and focus it on ourselves. THAT IS NOT SELFISH. We have been programmed to believe that doing anything other than acts of service for other people is self-ish, especially as women. So, I declare February self-love month and inside my Alive AF! membership, we take it to the next level and call is Radical Self-love. Radical Self-love isn't what you might think. It's not saying no to everyone around you and booking a flight to the tropics for a month and laying on a beach and getting massages, although if you need to do that to get some space to reset, then by all means do it and you could even do it with me if you want to check it out [ https://www.angelamascenik.com/2024retreatsandcoaching ]Radical Self-love is a love you have for yourself that helps you create boundaries around things that aren't good for you, like alcohol or over-working. And having these boundaries is going to bring up your programming and can cause you to feel guilty, second guess your decisions, and more. And engaging in Radical Self-love is knowing that this will happen and choosing to follow through on what is better for you and working on the internal stuff that comes up. It doesn't really feel good when you are doing it, but over time, it will. Also, I dig into Addiction and how to recognize if you are engaging in your addictive mind versus the real you, do not miss!
