On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Liverpool fan Dan Lord and West Ham fan Chris Stone to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Saturday's meeting at Anfield which could have big implications at both ends of the table. Liverpool are hoping to secure Champions League qualification for next season and consecutive 1-0 away wins has them in contention to do so, but could they be distracted by other Cup commitments? West Ham remain 18th, but have lost one in six and have Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in their sights, there's discussion on the battle to stay up and what The Hammers may need to escape - and there is reason from both perspectives to suggest in the immediate West Ham could cause a surprise on Saturday. Plus, all the key FPL assets covered, with Liverpool very much on mind with a great immediate run of fixtures. There's coverage on Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz, Mo Salah and Hugo Ekitike. But FPL managers would be well advised to keep Hammers assets on mind, with Mads Hermansen, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Matheus Fernandes, Crysensio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen all giving reason to monitor. It was a good day for Newcastle as they beat Villa in the 4th Round of the FA Cup, but the headlines were stolen by a staggering display from the officials at Villa Park. With no VAR in operation, the big question is unavoidable: have referees become too reliant on technology? Is VAR the worst thing ever introduced to the game? There was magic in the cup as Mansfield Town stunned Burnley to reach the Fifth Round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1975. The guys question Scott Parker's decision to make nine changes for the Clarets. Plus, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards debate whether Dominik Szoboszlai truly deserves the “world class” tag. And the big question… Gary, Alan or Harry Kane? Apologies for the late show today, but we're finally here to chat all about another big weekend in the Premier League title race, which saw Manchester City come from behind to win away at Liverpool, for only the second time under Pep Guardiola. After shout outs for the WSL, PSG v Marseille and a few other results (04:21), Musa and Ryan head to Anfield (11:23), which saw another unbelievable free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai give Liverpool the lead, a great comeback and the world being cruelly robbed of one of the silliest goals of the modern era. That meant the gap was the same at the top as before the weekend, following Arsenal's impressive 3-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday (30:52). Elsewhere, Aston Villa dropped more points, Manchester United may never lose again, Crystal Palace ended their winless streak and Cole Palmer scored another first half hat-trick.In Germany, Bayern and Dortmund teased a title race (48:13) and St. Pauli got a much needed win. Finally, there's a round-up of La Liga and a bit of chat about Ademola Lookman's move to Atlético Madrid (53:12).A reminder: Southbank Centre live show! March 1st! With special guest Nish Kumar! On this episode of The Transfer Flow, Patrick and Ted break down a chaotic, high-quality clash at Anfield as Manchester City beat Liverpool in a game that felt like a season's worth of drama packed into 90 minutes. We dig into what City got right, why Liverpool struggled to solve the press, and how a single moment of brilliance nearly changed the story again. From there, we zoom out to the title race and ask whether City are really back, what Arsenal should be focusing on down the stretch, and why controlling games in the Premier League feels harder than ever right now. Along the way, we talk Erling Haaland's underrated all-around impact, elite goalkeeping across the league, and why nobody ever looks comfortable anymore. In the second half, we get into Newcastle's worrying drop-off, Eddie Howe's growing list of problems, and how squad depth (or the lack of it) is shaping seasons at both ends of the table. We also look at the relegation battle, West Ham's faint hopes of a late escape, and why Forest fans should still be nervous. We wrap things up with listener questions, including a deep dive into “hot hand” theory in football, sweet spots for shooting, and what analytics can (and can't) tell us about form, finishing streaks, and player development. Then it's relegation talk: Crystal Palace ended a 12-game winless streak with a 1-0 win at Brighton, Spurs lost 2-0 at Manchester United with Christian Romero sent off, West Ham beat Burnley 2-0, and Leeds won 3-1 at Nottingham Forest, keeping the bottom of the table as tight as ever. Post-match reaction from Liverpool head coach Arne Slot as his side suffered a late defeat against Manchester City. Dominik Szoboszlai had put the Reds in front with a stunning free-kick but an equaliser from Bernardo Silva & then an Erling Haaland penalty saw the away side ahead in added time. City thought they had added a third deep into added time only for the goal to be disallowed and instead Szoboszlai sent off for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. the Debrief

[Pictures from Sky Sports]Liverpool dropped points again with a crazy 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday evening. After a goalless first half, this game exploded into life in the second 45 minutes, with a quickfire double from Hugo Ekitike make it 1-0 in the 48th minute and 2-0 in the 50th minute. At this point, the Liverpool of last season probably would have run away with the game, but all is clearly not well in this Reds side, as they looked highly suspect at the back again.Leeds punish sloppy Liverpool defending to fight backFirst, a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty breathed life into the game in the 73rd minute, and just two minutes later the two sides were level.Anton Stach found himself in far too much room in the penalty area as he fired in the first Leeds equaliser of the night, with pretty much everyone in that Liverpool back line to blame.Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool back in front as he finished well from a nice passing move to make it 3-2 in the 80th minute, but Leeds wouldn't give up, and eventually their persistence paid off.Deep into stoppage time, more poor LFC defending was punished as Leeds made it 3-3 through Ao Tanaka, who also scored in the midweek win over Chelsea. What next for Liverpool?Liverpool stay 8th in the Premier League, ten points off league leaders Arsenal. They've conceded a staggering 24 goals in 15 league games, that's more than 15th place Fulham and just one fewer than relegation strugglers Nottingham Forest. That is at least three games without a defeat for the Reds, but it's two draws in a row and just one win their last six.Next up for Arne Slot's side is an away game against Inter Milan in the Champions League, and then Brighton at home and Tottenham away in the Premier League before Christmas. Can Slot turn this around? Do you see him keeping his job for much longer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! This is a public episode. The AnfieldIndex USA era kicks off in heartfelt, chaotic and wonderfully honest fashion as new host Ross Carper steps up to the mic for the very first time. In this opening episode, Ross introduces his journey into Liverpool fandom, his mission to build a thriving American Reds community, and the origins of the Stateside Scouser show. From watching matches at dawn on the US West Coast to creating a local supporters' hub in Spokane, he shares the relatable, often hilarious reality of being a relatively new Red trying to immerse himself in the club's history and culture. Ross reflects on the emotional turbulence of Liverpool's season, the tragedy that shook the club in the summer, and standout moments featuring Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz. He also launches his recurring segment “American Idiot”, where he invites listeners to educate him on parts of the global game that still baffle him, beginning with the mystery of why missing pre-season seems to break elite footballers. The episode closes with a look back at the rough pilot that inspired the relaunch, featuring Ross and close friend David debating fandom, choosing a club, Liverpool's history, Klopp's legacy, and what it means to truly commit to the Reds. The Argentine headed home Dominik Szoboszlai's free-kick to clinch a deserved win for Arne Slot's side, who would have won by more if not for a number of stunning saves from Thibaut Courtois. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold found himself booed throughout by the home crowd, as his Anfield return ended in defeat. Liverpool ended a run of four successive defeats with an emphatic Champions League win at Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening. Despite falling behind to a Rasmus Kristensen strike, the Reds were well ahead by the interval through goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate before Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai netted in the second half to seal a 5-1 triumph. The result means Arne Slot's side have now taken six points from nine in their first three games in the competition with their biggest win of the season.
