After a decade of terrible mainstream media fuelled lies, we land on an existential discussion about the importance of football, the futility of fandom and the repeated death of a title race that doesn't seem to really matter anymore anyway. Money, money, money, to win or break even? That is the question, and what is the answer? Is it 50 +1? Or is it £50 to rename Finn Park as Fun Park? To discuss this and more we have the unshaven but fully prepared Barry Murphy for a general ‘spiel' on the state of a goalkeeping nation with an unexpected sidetrack to an Indian Sibin. Come and join us for an episode that has more twists and turns than a James McClean walk through the forest. With thanks, as ever, to Rascals, Future Ticketing, Planify, O'Reillys, and Collar & Cuff for guiding us along the way.

On Wednesday's Football Daily, Phil Egan brings you all of the fallout from last night's horror show for the Republic of Ireland in Yerevan. We hear from James McClean, Glenn Whelan, plus manager Heimir Hallgrimsson and captain Nathan Collins after a damaging defeat to Armenia. Last night was a good one for two Shamrock Rovers players, however, with one set to grace next summer's World Cup finals. And last night's CAF qualifiers have come at a cost to Manchester City ahead of Sunday's derby at the Etihad.
Last Monday night, Newcastle United played Liverpool in a game which told the story of the Premier League. One club is owned by Saudi Arabia, the other belongs to an American multisports holding conglomerate. It was played at St James' Park in front of 50,000 frothing Newcastle supporters who were enraged that their best player had gone on strike because he wants to play for Liverpool. This was a show staged in one of the great cities of industrial England for the benefit of television and with the supporters simply as extras. On Free State today, the great football historian David Goldblatt talks about how football explains so much of where England is today in society. He looks at how the kitsch of poppy commemorations became an opportunity to demonstrate militaristic credentials with Millwall playing a game in a camouflage kit.It has led to the demonisation of someone like James McClean. This Goldblatt says shows that these people, who are also raising flags across England today, are living in “fantasy land” when it comes to England's history. Hosted on Acast. This week on the Fozcast we are joined by the man who has the fastest goal ever in Premier League history, scoring in 7.69 seconds and you never guess who was in goal, our very own Ben Foster! Of course it's Ireland international Shane Long! Shane has been a guest we've wanted to have on the Fozcast for a long time and he didn't disappoint. He told us all about what the Irish squad get up too when they go away on international break, which is traditionally very different from the English culture. We also look back on his career, specifically that Southampton squad in 2015 where they had the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane, James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic and many more. Shane also chats to us about his move to Hull and how it didn't go as smoothly as he hoped… Once again we hope you enjoyed this episode of the Fozcast!
