“Underlying large language models have advanced significantly in the past six months, so that's allowed us is to start looking at software development in a much more ‘agentic' approach, where the agent essentially becomes a collaborator with the software developer,” says Deepak Singh, vice president of next-gen developer experience at Amazon Web Services. On this episode of Tech Disruptors, Singh joins Bloomberg Intelligence senior technology analyst Anurag Rana to take a deep dive into the realm of generative-AI chatbots and coding assistants, which the company offers through its Amazon Q service. The two discuss how these gen-AI agents are boosting developer productivity and enticing cloud migration, and how AWS is monetizing this service, both on a seat and a consumption basis.

Dr. Deepak Singh is an Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Missouri and Principal Investigator of the Magnetism and Superconductivity Research Laboratory there. Deepak’s research aims to better understand magnetism and superconductivity in new and existing materials. One of the magnetic materials they are studying has a honeycomb lattice structure that gives the material unique properties. Deepak and his lab are working to better understand the fundamental physics and mechanisms that underlie these properties, but also to investigate potential applications of this material. Deepak has a variety of interests outside of science, including playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with his family. In particular, he and his family love exploring National Parks, and the Badlands National Park is his favorite thus far. He received his PhD in condensed matter physics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Afterwards, Deepak conducted postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to joining the University of Missouri, Deepak worked for about 4.5 years as a Staff Scientist with a joint appointment at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Maryland, College Park. He has received several research awards at the University of Missouri, including the Research Board Award and the Physics Alumni Faculty Fellow Award. How May I Help You?: An Immigrants Journey from MBA to Minimum Wage (UC Press, March) is journalist Deepak Singh's chronicle of moving from India to small-town America, highly educated and yet unable to secure anything but a low-paying job in an electronics store. This is the story of downward mobility experienced by so many immigrants, told with candor, humility, and humanity and through the unique lens of an initially credulous outsider who is “fresh off the plane.” It is also a story of assimilation, as Singh learns to navigate the nuances of language and cultural norms, address his own identity issues, and appreciate the struggle of his retail coworkers as they encounter myriad challenges to their pursuit of the American Dream. http://www.theforecaster.net/brunswick-author-i-like-to-keep-my-politics-out-of-my-chicken-curry/ https://www.pri.org/stories/2017-03-14/indian-immigrants-us-journey-mba-minimum-wage
