Every SaaS company is racing to “add AI,” but most are doing it wrong. In this episode, Megh Gautam, Former Chief Product Officer at Crunchbase, reveals the hard truths behind building AI into established SaaS products. From avoiding hype-driven features to building trust through data quality and transparency, Megh shares how Crunchbase rolled out AI-powered capabilities without breaking user trust. He also breaks down the internal alignment, cross-functional execution, and relentless feedback loops required to ship AI features that actually matter.Key Takeaways -Start with Real User ProblemsAI should not be an “add-on story” — it must solve a core customer pain.Crunchbase began with AI in search, a high-usage, high-friction feature.Prioritize critical workflows over “nice-to-have” gimmicks.Data Quality Determines TrustBad data in = garbage out, especially with AI models.Crunchbase spent a decade building clean, reliable data pipelines before layering AI.Trustworthy results require grounding AI outputs in verified “truth sets.”User Trust Demands TransparencyCustomers don't just want answers — they want to know how those answers were derived.Explainability and confidence thresholds are essential for adoption. If unsure, don't hallucinate — caveat results and suggest alternatives.AI is a Company-Wide Effort, Not Just a Product LaunchDesigners, engineers, PMs, marketing, and GTM must move in lockstep.Pricing, packaging, and positioning are as critical as the technical build.Internal discomfort is normal — priorities will shift faster than in traditional SaaS launches.Continuous Feedback Loops Drive IterationEarly adopter programs and dense customer feedback cycles are critical.Patterns of confusion often surface only after repeated customer interactions.AI workflows blur traditional SaaS team boundaries — ownership must evolve.Chapters: 00:10 - Introduction 00:50 - Megh's SaaS journey (Twilio, Dropbox, Crunchbase) 02:45 - AI hype vs. solving real user problems 06:05 - Why Crunchbase started with AI in search 10:17 - Data quality as the foundation for trustworthy AI 15:07 - Overcoming AI skepticism with transparency 20:01 - Aligning product, engineering, marketing, and GTM on AI launches 25:46 - Feedback loops and customer education 30:32 - Lightning Round: Megh's favorite AI tools 36:27 - Closing thoughts and key remindersVisit our website - https://saassessions.com/Connect with me on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/sunilneurgaonkar/

Send us a textEver wondered how an entire nation discovers a medium that's been thriving elsewhere for decades? Meet Gautam Raj Anand, widely known as "the father of podcasting in India," whose remarkable journey from bored banker to pioneering podcast innovator reveals what happens when necessity meets opportunity.Gautam's story begins with corporate firewalls that blocked traditional entertainment but overlooked podcasts—a serendipitous oversight that led to his 14-hour-a-day listening habit. This personal discovery sparked a data-driven revelation: India possessed the perfect conditions for podcasting to flourish—high commute times, cheap data, numerous languages, and a rich oral tradition—yet remained virtually untouched by the medium. The challenge? Most Indians had never heard the term "podcast," and those who had associated it with expensive Apple products they couldn't afford. What follows is a masterclass in problem-solving as Gautam walks us through building Hubhopper, evolving from a simple content aggregator to a comprehensive ecosystem addressing each barrier to podcast creation and consumption in India. His team had to forge partnerships with music platforms, in-cab entertainment, and news applications to create distribution channels where none existed. The results speak volumes—India has transformed from a podcast desert to the world's third-largest podcast market in less than a decade.Particularly fascinating are the distinct differences between Western and Eastern podcast consumption patterns. While Western listeners embrace hour-long shows focusing on true crime, sports, and comedy, Indian audiences prefer shorter episodes (under 25 minutes) with religious and devotional content leading by a significant margin. These insights reveal how cultural contexts profoundly shape media consumption even within the same medium.Whether you're a podcast creator, media entrepreneur, or simply curious about global digital trends, Gautam's perspective will transform how you think about content creation across cultural boundaries. The Ag Net News Hour's Lorre Boyer and Nick Papagni, “The AgMeter” discussed the challenges faced by citrus growers, particularly the management of citrus thrips. Sandipa Gautam, a Cooperative Extension Area Citrus IPM Advisor, highlighted the importance of monitoring fields for thrips and other pests, such as red mites and California red scale. She noted that thrips thrive in drought-stressed environments and have developed resistance to some insecticides. Gautam emphasized the need for effective and safe pest management strategies, especially during the bloom season. The segment also touched on the broader impact of labor issues on farmers and the importance of agriculture in providing food and clothing. The discussion on Ag Net News Hour focused on a federal judge's ruling that the Trump administration cannot freeze funds allocated under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) by the Biden administration. Judge Mary S. McElroy, appointed by Trump, ruled that agencies cannot unilaterally alter funding granted by Congress. The ruling affects departments like USDA, EPA, and HUD, and orders them to release frozen funds. The conversation debated the legality of Trump's actions, with one speaker arguing for transparency and the other for adherence to legal processes. The impact on farmers and the farming industry was also discussed. The Ag Net News Hour discussed California's lawsuit against President Trump's use of emergency powers to impose tariffs on Mexico, China, and Canada. Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta argue that Trump lacks authority under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act to impose these tariffs, which they claim harm California's economy. They discussed the history of Newsom's financial mismanagement, citing a $961 million budget overrun for homeless programs and the failure of the high-speed train project. Pagani predicted Newsom's lawsuit would fail, highlighting his lack of support and the vagueness of the 1977 law.

Are oxalates actually harming your health, or is this another nutrition myth? In this episode of Super Life, Darin Olien breaks down the real science behind oxalates, their connection to kidney stones, mineral absorption, and gut health, and whether you really need to avoid high-oxalate foods. There's a lot of fear-mongering around oxalates, but what does the latest research say? Should you stop eating spinach, beets, or almonds? What about meat's impact on kidney function? Darin pulls from peer-reviewed studies to cut through the noise and give you the facts so you can make the best choices for your health. If you've ever wondered whether oxalates are a real concern or just clickbait, this episode is a must-listen. Segment 1: What Are Oxalates? Friend or Foe? Oxalates, or oxalic acid, are naturally occurring compounds found in many plant-based foods. They serve as a defense mechanism for plants but can sometimes bind with minerals like calcium and iron in the body, potentially forming kidney stones or reducing nutrient absorption. Here's the key question: Are oxalates dangerous, or is this another health myth blown out of proportion? Here's what the research says: For most people, oxalates are NOT a problem. Your body naturally processes and eliminates excess oxalates through urine. For those prone to kidney stones, particularly calcium oxalate stones (which make up about 80% of all kidney stones), consuming too many high-oxalate foods can increase the risk. Oxalates can interfere with calcium and iron absorption, but this is only a concern for people with nutrient deficiencies. Key takeaway: If your kidneys are healthy, your body handles oxalates just fine. But if you've had kidney stones before, you might want to pay closer attention to your oxalate intake. Segment 2: What Does the Science Say About Oxalates? To cut through the noise, I pulled up the latest research from 2024 and 2025. Here's what's new: 1. Gut Microbiota Can Help Protect Against Oxalates A 2025 study in Frontiers in Nutrition found that certain gut bacteria (like Oxalobacter formigenes) actually digest oxalates, helping prevent kidney stones. Takeaway: If you're worried about oxalates, supporting your gut microbiome with probiotics might be a natural way to reduce their impact. Link: Read Study Here "The presence of oxalate-degrading bacteria in the gut can significantly lower oxalate absorption and reduce kidney stone risk." – Dr. L. Wang, NHANES Study 2. Vitamin C Supplements & Oxalate Formation Some people worry that high-dose vitamin C supplements convert into oxalates, increasing kidney stone risk. A 2025 study in Nutrients found no significant increase in urinary oxalates from vitamin C intake. Takeaway: If you take vitamin C in moderation, you don't have to worry about it increasing oxalates. Link: Read Study Here "Contrary to popular belief, moderate vitamin C supplementation does not significantly raise oxalate levels in urine." – Dr. P.C. Calder, Nutrients Journal 3. Cooking & Fermentation Can Reduce Oxalates A 2024 study on fermentation & nutrient bioavailability found that cooking reduces oxalate levels by up to 60%. Best methods? Boiling, steaming, and fermentation lower oxalates significantly. Takeaway: If you love spinach but worry about oxalates, just boil it first! Link: Read Study Here Segment 3: What About Meat? Does It Increase Kidney Stone Risk? Now, here's something you might not expect. We talk a lot about oxalates and plant-based foods, but what about meat? Could eating too much meat actually contribute to kidney stones? The research says YES—but not because of oxalates. Instead, the mechanism is uric acid and metabolic acidity. Let's break it down. 1. Red Meat & Uric Acid Stones A 2024 study in Nature Reviews Urology found that high animal protein intake increases uric acid, which contributes to kidney stones. Excess meat consumption makes urine more acidic, making it easier for stones to form. Link: Read Study Here "High animal protein intake, while providing essential amino acids, also contributes to increased acid load and uric acid production, both of which are risk factors for kidney stone development." – Dr. S. Loeb, Nature Reviews Urology 2. Meat Increases Metabolic Acidity A 2025 study from Frontiers in Endocrinology found that excessive meat consumption leads to increased acid load, calcium loss, and kidney dysfunction. This makes it harder for the kidneys to filter out waste properly. Link: Read Study Here "While meat consumption is essential for many, excessive intake can disrupt mineral ion homeostasis, increasing the risk of kidney stone disease." – Dr. R. Ahmad, Frontiers in Endocrinology Segment 4: Foods High & Low in Oxalates Knowing which foods to eat or limit is key. High-Oxalate Foods (If You're at Risk) Spinach, Swiss chard, beet greens Beets, rhubarb, sweet potatoes Almonds, peanuts, cashews Blackberries, kiwi, figs Black tea, cocoa, coffee Low-Oxalate Foods (Safer Choices) Kale, mustard greens, cabbage Cauliflower, cucumbers, zucchini Apples, bananas, melons, grapes Milk, yogurt (binds with oxalates) Eggs, fish, chicken, beef (in moderation) Segment 5: Actionable Steps to Manage Oxalate & Meat Intake If you're concerned about oxalates or meat-related kidney stones, here's what to do: Balance Oxalates with Calcium Eat calcium-rich foods with oxalates to prevent them from forming stones. Cook Your Vegetables Boiling, steaming, and fermenting reduce oxalates by up to 60%! Drink Plenty of Water Staying hydrated flushes out excess oxalates & uric acid. Don't Overdo Meat Consumption Limit red meat intake and balance with alkaline foods like vegetables & fruit. Probiotics for Gut Health Consider probiotic-rich foods like yogurt and kimchi to help break down oxalates. Final Thoughts So, should you avoid oxalates? Should you stop eating meat? Not necessarily. The real key is BALANCE. Most people don't need to avoid oxalates entirely, and meat is fine in moderation—as long as you balance it with hydration, alkaline foods, and a gut-friendly diet. Send us a textDr. Uma Gautam's remarkable journey from dentistry to entrepreneurship embodies this year's Women's Day theme: "Accelerate Action." When faced with the challenge of balancing motherhood with career ambitions, Uma didn't wait for perfect circumstances—she created them by founding an all-women recruitment team that has thrived for 14 years. Her entrepreneurial path wasn't without obstacles. Starting as a "one-woman army" working from home, Uma gradually built her business through word-of-mouth referrals and unwavering resilience. Rather than viewing setbacks as reasons to quit, she interpreted them as opportunities to adapt and learn—a mindset instilled by her parents and reinforced through experience. The conversation reveals Uma's eight entrepreneurial mantras, including embracing uncertainty with courage, building resilience as a "mental muscle," and surrounding yourself with the right mentors. As she powerfully states, "An entrepreneur can never become singularly successful." Her emphasis on financial discipline addresses why many startups fail: not because of bad ideas, but because they run out of money before gaining traction.Beyond recruitment, Uma has flourished as a TV anchor and speaker, recently delivering a TEDx talk that garnered 50,000 views in just two months. Her approach to these high-visibility roles prioritizes authenticity over perfection, creating genuine connections with audiences through vulnerability and presence. This philosophy aligns with her leadership definition through the "three I's": influence, inspire, and impact. For those considering career transitions, Uma offers profound advice: focus on the "why" behind potential moves, not just the "what" of titles and compensation. This deeper questioning reveals alignment between personal values and organizational culture—the foundation for lasting professional satisfaction. Her parting wisdom? "The world moves only for those who ask." Trust yourself, take action, and watch as possibilities unfold.Have you purchased the copy of Inspire Someone Today, yet - Give it a go geni.us/istbook Available on all podcast platforms, including, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Spotify
