On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in person by Joe From Queens for full Buffalo Bills & NFL reaction to night one of the NFL Draft, recorded live from Resurgence Brewery in downtown Buffalo just moments after the Bills selected Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston with the first round pick at No. 30.It's a mildly surprising move with popular mock selection Trey Amos on the board but the Bills went for upside and playmaking with Hairston, who ran a 4.28/40 at the Combine, the best of any one at any position. He's a playmaker and willing tackler but definitely not known for his tackling. He's also more polished as a man defender than zone, both at least semi departures from what they usually look for. The guys have plenty of instant reactions to that and Patrick on a few surprises that happened throughout the first round. The guys were on hand at Resurgence for their Bills Draft Party, an event hosted by WGR 550's Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase with tons of fans and other outlets, including Bills Mafia founding member Del Reid.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports journalist Tim Graham for an extremely entertaining and informative conversation taped live recently from the first-ever Mafia Con event. Del Reid and the gang at 26 Shits orchestrated the inaugural Mafia Con event over the weekend to benefit the WNY Hero's Inc. and The PUNT Foundation. Not only was the event a huge success, but it was literally sold out. Hundreds of Buffalo Bills fans lined up to meet and get autographs from the likes of Keonn Coleman, Cole Bishop, Dewayne Carter, Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams in addition to several other things going on. One of the them were a string of podcasts being recorded there, including this one. The guys talked about several things during their conversation, including Tim Graham's upcoming deep dive on Bills budding star linebacker Terrel Bernard, the extent that Stefon Diggs may or may not be missed, who should be assuming leadership roles with so many former Bills captains and leaders now gone, and Tim's take on Sean McDermott. Tim also talks about how he got famous TV talk show host Maury Povich to do his Tim Graham and Friends podcast recently as well as his thought process in putting together feature stories, writing for 14 consecutive hours and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by BillsMafia co-founder and 26 Shirts owner Del Reid to talk charity, fandom and the Buffalo Bills in a conversation taped on location at 26 Shirts headquarters in Kenmore. Del's been on the show plenty of times in the past but it's been a hot minute since he's last been on--therefore there's plenty to catch up on them. Among them is discussing Mafia Con, an inaugural event coming July 20th spearheaded by Reid that'll include food vendors, music, beer, live podcasts (including this one) and Bills player appearances (including one from rookie receiver Keon Coleman). Del talks about who sparked the idea and what his expectations are for the event in year one. They also spend some having Del reflect on what it meant to be selected the Buffalo Bills Fan of the Year for 2023 and the way he was quite literally surprised to learn from it---hat tip to Stevie Johnson. Of course at the root of everything Del does is 26 Shirts and they spend time talking about the never-ending charitable endeavors and added responsibility/pressure that comes with it. That plus some talk about the Bills, plenty of naysayers out there and plenty more. Special thanks to 26 Shirts for allowing us to come enjoy a taping at their office headquarters, good stuff! ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatMoranTweets. Mayors from all over the country are meeting in Washington D.C. this week to discuss immigration and other pressing issues in their cities. We get the latest from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. And, ABC's Rick Klein and USA Today's Francesca Chambers discuss hy GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley may be seeking to lower expectations on how she'll do in the New Hampshire primary next week and whether lawmakers will agree on an immigration deal next week. Then, after the stadium was buried in snow, the Buffalo Bills paid volunteers $20 an hour to help shovel it out. Del Reid, co-founder of Bills Mafia, as the team's fans are called, talks about why they did it.
Why are Buffalo Bills fans called “Bills Mafia?” It's a story that's become legend within Buffalo. But outside of Bills fandom, the story is less well known, even for the individuals involved with the creation of Bills Mafia themselves. Twelve years ago, Stevie Johnson dropped a potential game-winning touchdown pass in overtime, and seemingly blamed God on Twitter, in the aftermath. That moment sparked a movement among Bills fans, and inspired Bills Mafia as we know it now. So today, we revisit one of our favorite ESPN Daily investigations: hear Adam Schefter, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Stevie Johnson, Ryan Clark, and more explain their roles in how a divine blunder branded the NFL's most devoted fanbase, Bills Mafia. Buffalo Bills beat reporter Alaina Getzenberg and Bills Mafia co-founder Del Reid also share the other side of Bills Mafia: the force for charity, as the community rallied around Bills safety Damar Hamlin's recovery. It's a rare weekend Saturday episode of Talking Buffalo as Patrick Moran breaks down three keys to the Buffalo Bills upsetting the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday Night Football as well as offering a prediction in addition to some Sabres talk. For the first time in 27 games the Bills enter a game as the underdog. Patrick remembers the last time that happened and how Buffalo responded. He also has thoughts on new additions Rasul Douglas and Linval Joseph to the defense before discussing the importance of Buffalo starting fast on Sunday and running the ball effectively. He also spend a few minutes talking about the Sabres, who just can't seem to find any consistency. That plus Patrick pays homage to popular Bills fan Del Reid and more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatMoranTweets. On today's future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, it's “Casual Friday” and Patrick Moran is joined once again by 26 Shirts owner and BillsMafia co-founder Del Reid to discuss a variety of topics focused on Buffalo and fun pop culture stuff. Josh Allen had some comments during a podcast this week with Kyle Brandt regarding Covid vaccinations that some deemed controversial and were quite vocal about their feelings on social media. Patrick and Del discuss that while Josh is a great quarterback, a great teammate and a great asset to the Western New York community, no one should really give a crap what he thinks about Covid vaccinations, not to mention he didn't really say anything definitively to begin with. They also discuss a few Buffalo Bills news items, including Del confirming that a Forrest Lamp t-shirt is not in the works and Dean Marlowe leaving for Detroit leaving a nice hole in the Bills depth. The Sabres are suddenly playing pretty good hockey and at least Patrick and Del are noticing. The guys discuss if interim head coach Don Granato should be in the conversation for becoming the “permanent” coach. 26 Shirts has a new campaign this week, “Sporting Buffalo” to benefit a beautiful three-year old girl named Sophie. Patrick tells the story behind her need for support with Del coloring in the insight. They also have their weekly regular segments, including Patrick just learning that Robert Downey Jr. was not the top choice for the Iron Man movie series before they each draft a “Starting Five” of movie soundtracks, with Del's picks extremely diverse while Patrick sticks to his 80s and early 90s gun. On today's future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, it's “Casual Friday” and Patrick is joined once again by 26 Shirts owner and BillsMafia co-founder Del Reid to discuss a variety of topics focused on Buffalo and fun pop culture stuff. The Buffalo Sabres finally ended their winless streak at 18 games, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Patrick discusses how he expected to meet the victory with sarcasm but genuinely felt good for the players and coaches to get the monkey off their back. He talks about how playing well over their last 21 games could help the culture with younger players and potential offseason acquisitions. Meanwhile, Del's happy for the victory but hasn't been watching much, admittedly in part because they've been so lousy. One franchise that hasn't been lousy is the Buffalo Bills. The guys talk about a far less stressful offseason because of Josh Allen's ascension and continue the debate on over if drafting a running back with their first pick would be a good decision. They also highlight this week's 26 Shirts campaign, “Kickin' Bass” to benefit an ill Shaun Sterner. This shirt was influenced and modeled by Bills kicker Tyler Bass. (You can purchase the shirt here) Before finishing up they hit their weekly segments. We learn a valuable lesson about Instagram and the historical success of the Bee Gee's in “Today's Years Old.” They also discuss results from a poll about former Bills stadium names and draft their “Starting Five” of all-time great comedians. It's Casual Friday on this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast as Patrick Moran is joined by Del Reid, owner of 26 Shirts and co-originator of BillsMafia for their weekly chat to discuss all things Buffalo and beyond. The Buffalo Bills made a few moves since the guys last spoke, signing Mitch Trubisky and Efe Obada as well as re-signing Isaiah McKenzie. Del has a few thoughts on each and Patrick asks him if he's in cruise control/trust the process mode at this point entering the draft next month. Spoiler alert--- Del is. Meanwhile the Buffalo Sabres continue to be the laughingstock of not just the National Hockey League but all of sports at this point. The guys try to make a little sense of it. Spoiler alert---they can't. Also, Del discusses the latest 26 Shirts campaign, one very personal to him as well as well as a conversation about the emotional toll that being in this type of work can have over time. They also spend time on their regular weekly segments and Patrick admits embarrassment after getting crushed by Del Reid among poll voters over last week's “Favorite 80's Movies” category that saw him net less than seven percent of the vote on Twitter. This week they're doing a Mt. Rushmore of “Favorite TV Comedies of All-Time” and also continue their weekly “Today's Years Old” where we learn a fun fact about zip codes as well as alcohol ice cream? Plus, did Michael Keaton or Tom Hanks have a better run of 80's movies? All this and much more. As usual, the guys chat up a variety of topics. They discuss the latest 26 Shirts campaign,” Beane the Builder” and leads to Patrick asking Del to take him through the beginning to end process of a normal 26 Shirts campaign. Of course they spend some time talking Buffalo Bills and react to the signings of Emanuel Sanders and Matt Haack as well as the departures of the guys they're replacing, John Brown and Corey Boroquez. They also discuss the extremely aggressive offseason of the New England Patriots and if they've gained significant ground on the Bills. They wrap up a few regular weekly segments, discussing the results of a poll asking what's been the best Bills unrestricted free agent signing of the Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott era while “I was today's years old” has a continuation story of a chiropractor and the last open Blockbuster in the United States. They finish with this week's “Del Fave Five”, a listing of each's five favorite movies from the 80s.
