Should McDermott Have A Super Bowl Mandate For 2025?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including in light of what happened this past week in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau, what it would take for Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula to put Sean McDermott on the hot season or even fire him.Under Thibs, the Knicks won at least 50 games in back to back seasons for the first time since the early 90's, made the playoffs four of the past five years with at least a first round win in the last three years, and made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Despite all that the Knicks upper management decided Thibs had taken New York as far as they were going to go under him and fired him. That got Patrick wondering what it would take for Pegula to ultimately sour on McDermott given some of the parallels between the two teams. McDermott has led the Bills to consistently good regular seasons, division titles and even playoff wins but has hit a wall every year in the playoffs, with that wall usually being Kansas City. The guys discuss some of the similarities and differences between Thibs and McDermott and try to paint a picture of what it would take, realistically for Pegula to decide that maybe it's time to move on and find a coach that'll get them over the hump. Of course, that coach may ultimately be McDermott and that's discussed too. Also, the James Cook situation isn't getting better per most recent reports and the guys have thoughts on that. In another Bills topic the question is posed if you'd sign up for 775 yards receiving from Keon Coleman this season right now. That plus Joe's Mt. Flushmore of crappy Sabres suits, Patrick's "Finish the Sentence" segment and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Matthew Fairburn Discusses "Hamster Wheel" Sabres Story

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matthew Fairburn from The Athletic to discuss his extremely informative and intriguing story that dropped earlier this week involving Terry Pegula, Kevyn Adams and the continuously dysfunctional Buffalo Sabres organization.Fairburn did a deep dive into the Sabres organization, one that has certainly caught the attention of many people including frustrated Sabres fans. For the story Fairburn sat down with the Sabres general manager in addition to speaking to no less than 10 different people involved with or having knowledge of the organization's inner workings. Before discussing the story specifically Patrick asks Matt some questions about the process of putting the piece together, including how long it took to do from start to finish, if he gets a sense for how much attention people like Adams and Pegula pay to media stuff out there, and if it's even worth the bother attempting to ask Pegula to speak on the record for stories anymore. It doesn't take long for the story to take shape, as barely four paragraphs in a gloomy----yet completely accurate portrayal is painted of the franchise. The guys talk about some of the key talking points from Fairburn's work, including Pegula not feeling his vision was being seen before promoting Adams, the (sad) truth about the team's spending habits in relations to the salary cap, many skeptical that Adams got the job to begin with considering he had no real experience at any hockey operational level especially scouting and what the present/future may hold. It's truly some excellent work from Matt and this was an informative chat with one of this market's best writers. You can follow Matt on Twitter at @MatthewFairburn and of course check out his coverage of the Sabres at The Athletic,Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Catherine, David and Matt discuss the start of the clay court season, headlined by victories for Jessica Pegula and Jenson Brooksby. Part one - WTA Results. Pegula shows her toughness and her variety to win the first clay court title of her career in Charleston over Sofia Kenin. We discuss her reascension to American number one and compare her career with players like Jelena Ostapenko and Sofia Kenin who have won a slam but don't have her consistency. Plus, Camila Osorio wins Bogota for the third time. Part two - ATP Results (from 30m). Brooskby saves match point in three different matches to win the first title of his career in Houston. We discuss his return to the tour, why we enjoy watching him play, and his final victory over Frances Tiafoe. There's also chat about Flavio Cobolli not only snapping his 8-match losing run, but doing so by winning the title in Bucharest. Part three - News (from 50m27s). Top players send a letter to the Grand Slams asking for more prize money, so what does that mean for the PTPA lawsuit? There's also change at the top of the ATP, Coco Gauff leaving Team8, and a look ahead to Monte Carlo and the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers this week. Does Pegula Get Enough Credit For Bills Success?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including examining if Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula is given the credit he deserves for the Bills sustainable success in recent years.A lot of Buffalo fans have reservations if not flat-out disdain for Pegula because of his ownership with the Buffalo Sabres, an era that's been scarred by terrible play, terrible coaching and management decisions, Pegula not spending close to the salary cap and never making himself available to speak the media to explain or offer accountability for the Sabres woes. However, the Bills have been a playoff team in every season except one since 2017 and there's no questioning Pegula's willingness to spend as much as he can along the way. Also, Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record over the weekend, leading to Patrick recalling a Gretzky memory with strong Buffalo ties and Joe pondering what Buffalo sports records feel most unlikely to ever get broken. The guys also have thoughts on the Bills "stadium topping" celebration last Friday, pretty much on the same page with thinking it was stupid. That plus deciding if Josh Allen or Hailee Steinfeld are more famous, Joe's Truth or False segment, Patrick's Mt. Flushmore of garbage party songs and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast

Clay season is upon us! Rejoice in the red (and green) dirt with Joel and Kim as they check in on the first week of action as part of the European / American Clay swing in the build up to the French Open at Roland Garros. It was an eventful seven days on the ATP and WTA Tours as Jessica Pegula clinched her first ever clay court title out in Charleston to put the disappointment of a final loss in Miami to Sabalenka behind her, whilst fellow American Jenson Brooksby fought his way to his maiden tour title in Houston as a qualifier wildcard saving multiple match points along the way! Italians Flavio Cobolli and Luciano Darderi also reversed their fortunes and won ATP 250 titles, whilst Camila Osorio defended her Bogota title on home turf at an event Joel questions whether should even exist in the first place. The duo also discuss the use of electronic line calling with Hawkeye on clay courts, upcoming development changes to Henman Hill for the 2027 Championships at Wimbledon, and recent calls for increased Grand Slam prize money from the ATP/WTA Top 20 players. Joel also teases Kim's knowledge again on singular Masters winners, and they reflect on Jannik Sinner's recent comments with Sky Italia about his ongoing ban from the Tour.Roland-Garros Hospitality with Sports, Travel and Hospitality GroupTo guarantee the best seats in the house with ticket-inclusive official hospitality, visit https://bit.ly/4j6RYBzSOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective in what becomes a complete Buffalo Sabres burial in what becomes one of the most explosive episodes in the nearly seven-year history of this show. Owner Terry Pegula went to Montreal and met with this team on Monday before Tuesday night's game, with reports circulating that Pegula showed confidence in everyone in the organization and said the solution is inside the room. The guys would love to know what the hell that solution is as they promptly went out and humiliated themselves against a bad Montreal team, looking at times like they flat out quit. Both guys and particularly Patrick are set off by this team and have had it. Everything is unloaded on the Sabres during this chat, from uncommitted ownership to a laughingstock general manager where it's clear as day that he's in way over his head in his role. They get into details with both before the attention is turned to the players, who don't deserve to escape wrath. Patrick thinks this is a soft, gutless weak-willed core and they explore many of the reasons why. They also talk about how the culture is ruined for both fans and content creators. That and much more heat from the guys today. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast.
