The US Open 2025 Women's final is set and it's a rematch of THAT Wimbledon semifinals that saw Amanda Anisimova upset the world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a fabulous contest. Anisimova will be hoping to replicate that victory when she faces off against Sabalenka on Saturday night but will the memory of the 6-0 6-0 Wimbledon final defeat be in the back of her mind going into another final. Anisimova stunned two time former champion Naomi Osaka in the semi-final in three tight sets and 3 hours to advance to her second consecutive grand slam final. Osaka at one point was just one game away from a 3rd final in New York before Anisimova bounced back to power to victory. For Sabalenka the test was arguably even tougher in a rematch of the US Open final last year, she went down a set and in the final set only won 4 points against the Pegula serve and they all happened to be in one game whilst Pegula didn't take her 4 break point chances to level the match. Sabalenka will be seeking her 4th grand slam title and her 1st of the season whilst Anisimova will be seeking a maiden grand slam title.Joel and Chris make their predictions and they also preview the Men's semi-finals where Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic face off in the day session and Jannik Sinner takes on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the night session. They also look ahead to the women's doubles final from Flushing Meadows where Taylor Townsends seeks to cap off a phenomenal tournament for the American!
The quarterfinals in New York brought plenty of fireworks, and we're breaking it all down before looking ahead to the semifinals. Novak Djokovic was clinical against Taylor Fritz and now sets up a blockbuster clash with Carlos Alcaraz. Is Novak the greatest athlete of all time? We debate it. Jannik Sinner's dominance rolls on as he heads into a big showdown with Felix Auger-Aliassime, but does Felix really have a chance? On the women's side, Jessica Pegula's steady run keeps her in the spotlight, while Amanda Anisimova pulled off sweet redemption against Iga Swiatek. Could we be on track for an all-American final? We dive into the possibilities and what it would mean for the tournament. Off the court, there's bracket drama, group chat chaos, and some questionable takes, from whether Fritz's headband was a mistake to the rising La Bubbus trend. 00:00 We're back! 01:08 Semi-Finals Preview and Quarterfinals Recap 02:21 Group Chat Confusion 05:00 Novak Djokovic's Performance So Far 12:22 Alcaraz vs. Djokovic Preview 16:23 Sinner's Dominance and Upcoming Match 19:59 Felix vs. Sinner 20:07 Men's Semifinals Preview 21:24 Women's Semifinals: American Hopes 22:09 Pegula's Path to Victory 25:15 Amanda Anisimova's Redemption 27:49 Osaka's Comeback 32:43 Bracket Challenge Drama and Goodbye! The pod hits triple digits, and Sam immediately blows the budget - dropping $663 on hotel laundry in New York. That fiasco sets the tone for an episode packed with shaky quarterfinal predictions, a surprisingly deep dive into life choices, and a full Round 4 recap. From Anna Wintour lurking courtside to Jason Biggs randomly popping up, the celebrity sightings nearly stole the show… nearly. The guys break down Felix's revival, Alcaraz's shot-of-the-year candidate, Novak's effortless cruise, and Fritz's eternal struggle against him. On the women's side, Iga keeps steamrolling, Osaka looks dangerous again after taking out Coco, Pegula is gliding quietly under the radar, and Krejcikova delivered what might be the match of the tournament. Things wrap up with one of the wildest Life Advice questions yet. The guys dish out surprisingly heartfelt guidance—sandwiched between trash talk about their bracket challenge and scheming over who's doomed to write and sing a jingle. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including in light of what happened this past week in the NBA with the New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau, what it would take for Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula to put Sean McDermott on the hot season or even fire him.Under Thibs, the Knicks won at least 50 games in back to back seasons for the first time since the early 90's, made the playoffs four of the past five years with at least a first round win in the last three years, and made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Despite all that the Knicks upper management decided Thibs had taken New York as far as they were going to go under him and fired him. That got Patrick wondering what it would take for Pegula to ultimately sour on McDermott given some of the parallels between the two teams. McDermott has led the Bills to consistently good regular seasons, division titles and even playoff wins but has hit a wall every year in the playoffs, with that wall usually being Kansas City. The guys discuss some of the similarities and differences between Thibs and McDermott and try to paint a picture of what it would take, realistically for Pegula to decide that maybe it's time to move on and find a coach that'll get them over the hump. Of course, that coach may ultimately be McDermott and that's discussed too. Also, the James Cook situation isn't getting better per most recent reports and the guys have thoughts on that. In another Bills topic the question is posed if you'd sign up for 775 yards receiving from Keon Coleman this season right now. That plus Joe's Mt. Flushmore of crappy Sabres suits, Patrick's "Finish the Sentence" segment and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matthew Fairburn from The Athletic to discuss his extremely informative and intriguing story that dropped earlier this week involving Terry Pegula, Kevyn Adams and the continuously dysfunctional Buffalo Sabres organization.Fairburn did a deep dive into the Sabres organization, one that has certainly caught the attention of many people including frustrated Sabres fans. For the story Fairburn sat down with the Sabres general manager in addition to speaking to no less than 10 different people involved with or having knowledge of the organization's inner workings. Before discussing the story specifically Patrick asks Matt some questions about the process of putting the piece together, including how long it took to do from start to finish, if he gets a sense for how much attention people like Adams and Pegula pay to media stuff out there, and if it's even worth the bother attempting to ask Pegula to speak on the record for stories anymore. It doesn't take long for the story to take shape, as barely four paragraphs in a gloomy----yet completely accurate portrayal is painted of the franchise. The guys talk about some of the key talking points from Fairburn's work, including Pegula not feeling his vision was being seen before promoting Adams, the (sad) truth about the team's spending habits in relations to the salary cap, many skeptical that Adams got the job to begin with considering he had no real experience at any hockey operational level especially scouting and what the present/future may hold. It's truly some excellent work from Matt and this was an informative chat with one of this market's best writers. You can follow Matt on Twitter at @MatthewFairburn and of course check out his coverage of the Sabres at The Athletic,Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium.
