Senior Vice President of Deseret Management Corporation, the parent company of Deseret News, Gary Porter joins us with more. Gary Porter: The Deseret News stands for journalism centered on the issues core to the human heart, including faith and family. While the Deseret News has perpetually evolved to meet the demands of its audience, such as reimagining print offerings and launching an acclaimed magazine, it remains committed to timeless ideals. Though independent in its editorial decisions, the Deseret News values are rooted in the teachings espoused by its owner, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Deseret News stands for truth and light. And as Utah's oldest business, it takes seriously the role of building people and communities. Our CEO Keith B. McMullin said it this way: “Our purpose is not only to inform, but also to lift and influence men and women, boys and girls, who involve themselves in the products and services that we render.” We do that with honesty, integrity and eye toward helping people live their best lives. Today, he's here with an important message for all Utahns. KEITH McMULLIN Adversity is formative but never permanent. It is part of Utah's rich legacy, building individuals and families emboldened by what they have endured and strengthening communities through courage and service. We have seen this throughout the coronavirus where Utah has been a model of what's possible -- focusing on protecting health while keeping our economy open. Together, we've come close to prevailing over one of the most devasting pandemics in our nation's history. Now, we need to “Bring It Home!” We need to avoid a possible resurgence of COVID-19 in the fall, and to do this the State has set the goal to have 70% of us over the age of 18 vaccinated by July 4th. We can do this! Currently, 63% have already received the vaccination, and the Salt Lake Chamber is partnering with the Utah Department of Health to help businesses support employees in protecting themselves and their families. You can learn more about the program at coronavirus.utah.gov or by contacting your local chamber of commerce. Having 70% of adults vaccinated by Independence Day will keep our families and businesses safe, and we've come a long way to make that goal a reality. Now, “Let's Bring It Home!” Originally Aired: June 24, 2021.
