Today we're talking about the crossing of the Main Range from the present day township of Murphy's Creek to Toowoomba, and what truly was a marvellous feat of Victorian era engineering. We also speak with Gavin Anderson, Asset Manager West Moreton for Network Operations South at Queensland Rail. He commenced his career as a ‘Nipper' in a Bridging gang at Miles on the western line, and has been with Queensland Railways etc for 36 years. As Asset Manager, Gavin looks after the Main Range railway, and follows on a tradition stretching back nearly 155 years of maintaining this important piece of railway infrastructure. He commenced in the Asset Manger role in 2013. If you have any questions about our rail history, please message us on the Queensland Rail Instagram or Facebook accounts. You can also email the team at: communitypartnerships@qr.com.au We'd love to hear from you, what you love about the podcast, and what you'd like us to feature on a future episode.
Do you remember when Derek co-produced a podcast called 1951 Down Place? Did you know that there was an episode recorded that was never released? Did you know that - after three years - that episode will finally be set free into the podosphere? This week, Derek is joined by Scott Morris (and a kidney stone?) to discuss the 1971 film Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (dir. Roy Ward Baker), and this episode features all the old 1951 Down Place segments - the James Bond Connections, the Disney Connections, and the Doctor Who Connections (courtesy of Don Falkos). Also this week, another excellent installment of Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland and an ultra edition of Mark Matzke's Beta Capsule Review. In this episode of Mail Order Zombie, Brother D talks about a zombie movie that's been on his radar since he first heard about it in 2010, but since it has such an innocuous name like The Dead (dir. Howard J. Ford and Jonathan Ford), it was difficult to find much information about it online before it was released in the UK last year. It hits DVD and Blu-ray in the US this month, and you'll have to listen to Episode #174 to hear if the movie lives up to D's expectations! This episode also features the first of MOZ's occasional Palette Cleansers in which D walks the MOZ Family through JABB pictures' The Collective Vol. 2.
