Welcome back to the Psychedelic Therapy Podcast. I'm your host, Eamon Armstrong. Today on the show, we're welcoming back Tony Moss. Tony is an artist, producer, and member of the Bird Tribe Music Collective. He is also an ayahuasca facilitator with 30 years of experience and has just released a new album, Joy. In today's conversation, we discuss the magic and science of medicine music. We talk about the state of medicine work in 2024, why psychedelics change the way we hear music, and the difference between an Icaro, a medicine song, and other genres. We also explore the hymns of Santa Daime, Tony's gospel-inspired music, and his new album, Joy, which turns unexpected genres into medicine music. Tony is a recording artist, producer, and creative director. Born into a musical family of R&B gospel singers, he was raised in California's psychedelic and spiritual cultures. Inspired by over 25 years of working with plant medicines, Tony combines science, shamanism, and multiple music genres to create music dubbed "Soulful Ceremonial." To celebrate four years of Life is a Festival, today I'm sharing a conversation I had with my friend Ian MacKenzie about how to conduct a good interview. Whether you want to start a podcast or are simply interested in being a better conversationalist, I think you'll find this helpful. On the show we go over how to research your guest so you can bring more to the party, how to create a roadmap for an engaging, spontaneous conversation, and how to make your guest feel safe to offer their most vulnerable storytelling. Ian and I share some of our favorite pre-recording rituals. We discuss how to offer precise, lean questions and find out what is most important to you. We end with a discussion of the creative spirit and how to cultivate your relationship with the Holy Ghost. Ian is a documentary filmmaker and host of the Mythic Masculine podcast. This conversation came from his Podcast Accelerator which is launching a new cohort in January. On the show we discuss where kinks come from and how accepting, embracing, and embodying them can be healing for you and your lovers. We discuss creating safe containers in specific experiences and overall relationship dynamics. Finally we end with questions and a playful Daddy embodiment practice. In today's episode, I had the honour of connecting in with dear brother Eamon Armstrong, exploring ways of being that allow for greater degrees of integration, and soul to live through us. In a world that prizes some expressions, criticises and condemns others, it's no wonder we become partial even to ourselves. Through an exploration of queer ways of being, masculinity and transformative culture, we touch the nerve of broadening senses of ‘self,' to open to more inclusive and honouring epistemologies. Diving into temperament, attachment, identity, and character we explore what it means to shape identity and a ‘peaceful not-knowing' from the inside, rather than from outside forces. We share a playful energy together, and always have, and so you'll enjoy this one full of all of its wit, wonder and banter.--Show-notes and links hereConnect with Al on InstagramConnect with Al on FacebookMusic by RhoneSupport the show (https://aljeffery.com/podcast/)

Every few months I like to offer an update on my personal journey by sharing an interview I did with another podcaster. This week’s episode is a repod from Eric White’s show theEWpodcast. Although Eric’s intention was initially to talk about festivals, we move quickly into a conversation about mental health. We discuss techniques for meeting depression and anxiety as teachers. We talk trauma work from psychedelics to shaking to something called “brainspotting.” At the end of the conversation we experienced a moment of disconnection and the opportunity to not run away. I definitely recommend checking out other episodes of Eric’s podcast. I’ve offered some mentorship since he launched and I’m really proud of what he’s created. Thanks for having me on your show Eric! In today's episode, I speak with Eamon Armstrong. Eamon is a public speaker, writer, podcast host and former Creative Director for Fest300. His podcast, Life is a Festival, is one of my personal favorites. Eamon's interview style is something I have been taking notes on for myself since the start of theEWpodcast and I highly recommend listening to Life is a Festival if you haven't already heard of it. On his show, Eamon interviews festival leaders and deep thinkers from around the world including Jamie Wheal, Marian Goodell, Jordan Hall and many others. Eamon also hosts the Psychedelic Therapy podcast through Maya Health, where he interviews guests around the topic of, you guessed it, psychedelics and therapy. Initially, the intent of this conversation was to look at what aspects of festival culture might be amplified in society today to help us navigate this difficult moment that is 2020. It's no secret that currently in America, we have lost our sense of community and it was my intention in this conversation to gain insight from Eamon's depth of experience at festivals, places where community is key, to find out what could be done to get that sense of community back. This didn't exactly happen. As you'll hear, the majority of this conversation is spent talking about mental health. And it's a great conversation that covers both Eamon's and my own personal histories with mental health struggles, the role of psychedelics in recovery, the importance of actually doing the work and much more. About two thirds of the way into this discussion, we do manage to get the conversation back on its original tracks and all goes just fine, until it doesn't. At one point towards the end of the conversation, I attempt to make a point that I had been excited to make as I prepped to speak with Eamon. In fact, during my prep I had imagined the flow of how our discussion might go and this particular point that I attempt to bring up was supposed to be a big deal. But, it falls flat with Eamon. At this point, we were creeping up on the 90-minute mark which we had initially scheduled as our time limit. If you make it this far into the episode, you'll hear as I try to end the interview because we've reached 90 minutes in a not-so-subtle attempt to get out of what I perceived to be an awkward situation. What happens next was totally unexpected and i think actually made the podcast better, if not slightly more uncomfortable for yours truly. This podcast as a project, started as a growing experience for myself and since that has not changed, I have decided to leave the ending of this conversation mostly untouched, where you'll get to hear some of this growth happen live. I think I will just leave it at that and let you discover what happens if you decide to stick around till the end. Many thanks to Eamon for being an awesome human and bringing his A-game. As you'll hear, I have looked up to Eamon and his work for a while now and he did not disappoint.https://www.eamonarmstrong.comLife is a Festival: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/life-is-a-festival/id1443178401The Psychedelic Therapy Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/life-is-a-festival/id1443178401The Body Keeps the Score: https://www.amazon.com/Body-Keeps-Score-Healing-Trauma/dp/0143127748Steppenwolf: https://www.amazon.com/Steppenwolf-Novel-Hermann-Hesse/dp/0312278675/Finite and Infinite Games: https://www.amazon.com/Finite-Infinite-Games-James-Carse/dp/1476731713/Donate to Burning Man: https://donate.burningman.org

In this week’s iboga patient experience episode, we hear from Eamon Armstrong. He is the creator and host of the Life is a Festival Podcast, promoting a lifestyle of adventure and personal development through the lens of festival culture. Eamon’s belief in the transformational power of psychedelics led him to take part in a traditional Bwiti initiation in Gabon. He has since become a trained sitter with MAPS’ Zendo Project. Eaman describes how his desire for personal metamorphosis led him to seek out an iboga experience in Africa. However, he doesn’t recommend that others go to Gabon to do what he did. Rather, a more clinical setting is much safer. At any rate, he found that it was a truly transformational journey. Eamon describes what he went through during his ten-day experience and how it led to new and important insights. Eamon’s journey revived many forgotten memories. These memories brought back some suppressed fear and trauma. He feels that it was a very healing experience overall. Eamon found that iboga led him to recognize the source of his traumas which ultimately helped him deal with addiction.   In this episode: Why it is safer to have an ibogaine experience in a clinical setting rather than elsewhere Preparation to take before an iboga journey The various steps to a traditional iboga experience How an iboga journey is a very personalized experience  The important role that an integration coach can play in any psychedelic journey The distinction between iboga and ibogaine   Quotes: “My pursuit of iboga had to do with certain aspects of myself that I wanted to transform. I wanted to transform them by going to the root.” [6:02] “It felt healing. I felt like I was moving through chunks of things that I had been carrying and holding inside me. It was hard work.” [26:28] “What iboga teaches you is that there is no such thing as addiction in the way that you think there is. There is only deep trauma and pain and patterns that you create to avoid them. Iboga goes to the root of that trauma and pain and shows you what it is.” [36:15]   Links: Life is a Festival Podcast Zendo Project Iron John by Robert Bly Ayahuasca Scientific Research with Dr. Dan Engle Ibogaine Scientific Research with Thomas Kingsley Brown, Ph.D Unlimited Sciences Maya Check out the full episode post Keep up with everything Plant Medicine related here Porangui

Eamon Armstrong is the host of his popular podcast Life is a Festival, promoting adventure and personal development through the lens of festival culture. I first met him as the Prince of Parties when he worked for Fest300, where he got to travel the globe and report from world's best festivals. It was at Rainbow Serpent in Australia where he happened to attend one of my first talks on masculinity and love. We bonded soon after, and kept in touch after returning to our home places. A year later, Eamon and I returned to Australia where we offered a series of talks on the subject of mature masculinity - we were a great combination. I brought my experience and knowledge and he offered his playfulness and vulnerability. Plus, he made me just a little more fabulous. More recently, he has experimented with stand-up comedy, exploring the conversation around men's work with a poignant irreverence. Up next, I've included a short clip before we dive into our conversation. LINKS: Life is a Festival - Podcast

How do you know when a boy has become a man? Is it measured by age or some psychological threshold through which he has passed? As men grow up, take on power and responsibility, these questions become increasingly acute, particularly in this modern era where the feminine is rising in the collective and questioning hundreds of years of masculine imbalance. In this fascinating discussion with masculinity writer and speaker Eamon Armstrong, we dive into what's happening with men today, how the loss of male rites of passage has contributed to a major loss of masculine maturity, and what can be done to create balance for everyone's sake. If you're interested in the ways men can transform into inspiring lovers and leaders, this episode is for you.
