Today on That Tech Pod, Laura, Kevin, and Gabi speak with singer-songwriter Katie Boeck and producer Dustin Ransom live in Nashville, Tennessee about making music with technology in the age of A.I.Check out Katie's NEW music OUT NOW here: https://www.katieboeckmusic.comKatie Boeck's voice is earthy and cosmic. Her muses, modern and ancient. Her power, higher and worldly. Boeck doesn't just revel in these contradictions—she weaves them together on her forthcoming album, Calico due April 28, 2023. Calico captures the arc of maturing relationships—from naïveté and illusion to self-love and sovereignty. It's an album about modern love and the longing that still tugs beneath the promise of our hyper-connected culture. On the title track Boeck sings, “I'm in every direction / too many modes of connection.” And on the album's opener, Over Again, she ponders time and the gift of owning your history. “Would you do it over again/ lose ourselves along the path of good intentions”. These are songs about life taking unexpected courses and stories of love just out-of-reach.Boeck summons a pantheon of guides—wise women both mythic and real. Like Eve, Boeck likes to reimagine herself returning to Eden, whole. And Like Eurydice, Boeck followed one her musical guides, Joni Mitchell, out of the underworld. Recently divorced, newly single-parenting, Boeck was struggling to find her voice. So she looked to Joni's oracular songs to help renew her own creative spark. She learned Joni's watershed record Blue in its entirety and toured the show for a year. Living inside Joni's cadences and signature melismas led Boeck back to her own sonic soil. She used songwriting's ancient alchemy to find wisdom in her heartache and spiritual injuries. She also found kinship with co-producer Dustin Ransom (also recently divorced) who wound up co-writing and co-producing the album. Boeck's career has been wildly varied. After graduating UCLA's Theater program, she spent her early twenties playing every Westside LA dive bar and coffeehouse, living on Lookout Mountain and soaking in that Laurel Canyon sound. She landed a spot in an all-women Bollywood band that took her on a surreal six-month “Eat, Pray, Love-esque” tour of India, playing everything from farm weddings to theIndian Navy's annual gala. Afterwards, Boeck found herself back in LA with reverse culture shock, her '91 Chevy Caprice Classic and a heartbreak from a recent Spanish expat romance. She wove these experiences into the songs that appear on her debut EP, Speaking of You.Boeck then moved to New York to star in Duncan Sheik's musical, Spring Awakening, where she shared the lead role of Wendla with deaf actress Sandra Mae Frank. The play's success occasioned appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and a 2016 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Musical. Boeck's rendition of “Ave Maria” was featured on HBO's critically-acclaimed television series “The Newsroom” and her cover of Ace of Base's “The Sign” was recently featured on Netflix's “Love Island”. She has played Electric Forest Festival, Mile of Music, the Cutting Room, City Winery and Carnegie Hall. Boeck now lives in Nashville with her five-year-old son. “Boeck sings with a plaintive passion.” – NEW YORK TIMES

Anomalie is the live electronic project of Nicolas Dupuis, a keyboardist and producer based in Montreal, QC. Rising to worldwide fame after the release of his two EPs, Metropole Part I and Part II, Dupuis begins the next stage of his career with his debut single, “Bond,” off his upcoming debut full-length album, Galerie, set for April 2022. This new chapter includes the announcement of the Galerie World Tour, featuring new arrangements with the Anomalie Live band, coming to 22+ cities all over the globe. Galerie marks brand new sonic directions and for the first time ever, vocal collaborations - all the while staying true to the sound that has built a worldwide fanbase and remains unmistakably Anomalie. His music innovatively combines cutting-edge electronic production, jazz, and classical harmonies, virtuoso keyboard skills, and an undeniably raw funk groove connecting it all together. This places his career in a singular position. His public cosigns include an eclectic mix of music heavyweights (Charlie Puth, Chromeo, D Smoke, and Snarky Puppy), and his fanbase is a mix of the new jazz scene (Louis Cole, Keifer), the soulful beats scene (FKJ, Masego), and the post-dubstep electronic scene (Griz, Odesza). Dupuis has a lot to reflect upon the success that got him here. By the end of 2020, Anomalie sold out two world tours (North America, European, and Asia) with his intricate 4-piece live band, grew his online following in the millions across social media, and performed at the likes of Red Rocks, Montreal Jazz Festival, and Electric Forest Festival. Most impressively, he's achieved all of this as an independent artist. Seth and Rob sit down with Mimi Naja of Fruition at the Electric Forest Festival in Michigan and initially talk about what it's like to be playing traditional instruments at a primarily electronic music festival. Mimi ends up explaining the thinking behind the band's decision to bring into the studio the rock feel of their live shows and their decision to go with producer Tucker Martine. Martine taught the band many things, helped them add layers to their sound and he is the chief reason that Mimi decided to play some baritone guitar on the record. The result is by far their greatest record to day, "Watching It All Fall Apart." The trio also discuss how the band's breakup songs contain elements of hope and accountability. We hear a bit about Mimi's days as a Georgia youth and explains her decision to leave Georgia and go to school in Portland. She would leave school and then clicking with a group of musicians while playing Marley and Sublime tunes. These folks would end up becoming Fruition. We learn about the band's the early days, and some of the antics that went on as the band grew (like "song-bombing" Vince Herman). She also talks about how she used to leave pronouns out of her songwriting because of all of the homophobia in the world, but that she has more recently eschewed this approach and been forthcoming with her sexuality. Mimi also explains specific reasons why Atlanta-based musician Janelle Monelle is an inspiration to her, and the fluid nature of sexuality in the music world. Speaking of inspirations, the discussion most certainly gets to stories about Greensky Bluegrass, Elephant Revival, The Infamous Stringdusters and other of Fruition's "Crazy Uncles and Aunts." She also expresses love for her own band's fans, which she calls the "Fruit'y Freaks." Seth and Rob then wrap up the show catching up the listeners on show news during one of the few times they were together last month. Speaking from a coffee shop in Black Mountain, NC they also discuss North Carolina in general, and specifically their day together there. The show ends with more Fruition music including Mimi and band mates Jay Cobb Anderson and Kellen Asebroek sitting in with Railroad Earth and performing Fruition's "Mountain Annie" at the idyllic Red Rocks. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com All social media management, promotion and website maintenance/building done by Harris Sullivan. wTnS is a proud partner of the Osiris Podcast Network. Los Angeles-native singer/songwriter, Charlotte Bash, began performing at a young age and has sung at numerous venues internationally with the likes of John Mellencamp, Sara Bareilles, Aaron Carter, Marietta Simpson, Sylvia McNair, and Shahkar Bineshpajooh at The Microsoft Theatre at LA Live. She was classically trained as an opera singer at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, but when she returned to L.A. she wanted to find her own sound that combined her classical training with the pop music she loved. The sound she found is a unique musical experience that combines fantasy and reality, as demonstrated in her 2013 release of her coming of age EP, Journey to Me. Her newest project, “Princess Game” was inspired by the electro indie pop scene coming out of Britain and Australia and is a theatrical journey through sonic landscapes that tell a powerful story.
