Operatic soprano Chen Reiss has just released a new album alongside Daniel Grossman and the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich entitled "Jewish Vienna". The Austrian capital has always been a key spot for classical music and the goal of this record was to focus on the artists and composers who were part of this rich scene until the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany. We also look at how the internet and social media may have killed off the video star, as well as the new album from Welsh rockers Stereophonics.

He contrasts his experience with Paris Chong's son, who is not interested in performing. Andrew discusses the differences in musical opportunities and culture between the UK and the US, attributing the abundance of UK musicians to the cold weather and lack of other activities. Deanna Ray Eberhart Von Fange – what a regal sounding moniker!  Deanna Ray, her “roots” music name, barely in her mid-20's, presents as a fully mature artist.  I was introduced to Deanna a couple of years ago by my colleague, and accomplished songwriter in her own right, Julie Bennett Hume.  Deanna was still in college pursuing a double masters in vocal performance and Choral Church Music at the University of Kansas. In addition to her own studies, Deanna has been teaching music to students ages 8-14 including voice, guitar, ukelele and basic piano. I have witnessed the power of her operatic voice; she is truly a gifted force of nature that most assuredly has a long and accomplished career ahead of her in whatever genre she pursues.  It has been an honor and privilege to get a glimpse into a musical world that is as organic as it is cerebral.  It is a  pleasure to give space and airtime to an emerging Heartland artist as talented as Deanna.  Enjoy this conversation and beautifully nuanced performance of original music from Deanna Ray.

“Maria,” the latest film from director Pablo Larraín, offers a mind-bending exploration of the life and final days of legendary opera singer Maria Callas, with Angelina Jolie delivering a transformative performance. To bring her world to life, the acclaimed sound team faced the unique challenge of blending iconic original recordings of Callas with actual, live performances from Jolie, who trained extensively to sing opera at a professional level.“We absolutely went into this with the idea that Angelina was gonna do this live… She called it ‘face singing,' because it's so unnatural. It's not a pop song in your shower or in your car where you kind of just go along with it. It's constantly changing tempos and dynamics; that's super hard to reproduce. I'm still under the weather, but I can't let that keep me from posting my usual Tuesday episode! Here is another recycled bonus episode, this one posted two years ago in honor of my birthday, which features some of my favorite singers. At that time I posted a brand new episode entitled “Dan's Picks,” but many of the best selections ended up on the cutting room floor. That hurt my heart so much that I had no choice but to do a companion episode which features a number of things that were lacking from the main episode: first of all, more tenor goodness (Aksel Schiøtz, Franco Corelli, Sándor Kónya, Jussi Björling, Richard Crooks, Ian Partridge); second of all, more burly baritones (Jorma Hynninen, Ettore Bastianini, Riccardo Stracciari, and the lesser-known megawatt talent Hugo Hasslo). Also heard are a number of sopranos that have not received enough Countermelody airtime (Edith Mason, Maria Vitale, Andrée Esposito, Lucia Popp), as well as a number of favorites that we (I?) simply can't get enough of: Muzio, Lehmann, Olivero, Farrell, Steber. I even set aside modesty to include a brief clip of me from a demo I recorded some time ago, back when I could still sing! Every selection in this episode is very dear to my heart; I hope you will enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

What is the purpose of an Adam's apple? Could male nipples lactate? The male body is full of surprises. And if you're a guy who thinks he knows his body to a T, or a lady who is an expert and knows it all, you're in for a treat. Here's a list of impressive (and peculiar) facts about the male body and some odd differences between male and female bodies that you don't want to miss. Most of these features are hard to believe, yet true. TIMESTAMPS Female origins 0:53 Baldness 1:54 Men's faces age slower than women's. 3:14 Thick skin 4:03 Men's bodies can lactate. 5:21 The Adam's apple 6:33 Color perception 7:20 Music: Glitch by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) Operatic 3 - Vibe Mountain #malebody #menfacts #malebrain SUMMARY Humans technically start life as a blank slate, and for the first 5 to 6 weeks, only the X chromosome is present in a fetus. After the 5 to 6-week period, if the fetus is to be male, the Y chromosome finally appears in a process called sexual differentiation. -If a man's father is bald, then his chances of also losing his hair increase by 60%. The activity of male hormones also affects hair follicles in such a way that the body gradually loses its ability to produce new hair. -A man's skin loses its concentration of collagen much more slowly as he ages, meaning that it's much more resistant to wrinkling and sagging. -Men's skin is thicker on the stratum corneum, which is the outermost layer of the epidermis. It provides a strong barrier between the environment and the living cells underneath. -Men and women are built from a common pattern, and that's the reason why men have nipples. In theory, men could lactate because male breasts have milk ducts and some mammary tissue. -The Adam's apple expands to account for the growth of the larynx. As the larynx grows, the man's voice becomes deeper and lower. -Men can discern far fewer shades of color than women can. Color perception is determined by retinal cone cells. Their information is contained in the X chromosome, and, because women have 2 X chromosomes, the number of cone cells they possess is, naturally, twice as high as that of men. SynopsisThe life story of George Gershwin usually runs something like this: an incredible string of successes cut short by Gershwin's tragically early death. But on today's date in 1922, Gershwin suffered one of his rare flops when his one-act opera Blue Monday opened and closed on the same day.For five years, beginning in 1920, Gershwin had provided the music for an annual Broadway review entitled The George White Scandals. The impresario Mr. White provided the money and the leggy showgirls, Mr. Gershwin the catchy tunes and light-hearted dances. But in 1922, Gershwin was eager to try something different: a modern, jazz-age version of an Italian verismo opera. The plot was simple: he does her wrong, and then she shoots him. The reviews were devastatingly bad—one critic suggesting the soprano with the pistol should have shot the rest of the cast before anyone had a chance to sing. And so Mr. White pulled Blue Monday from his revue before it could have a second performance. A concert revival by the Paul Whiteman band at Carnegie Hall in 1925, and a 1953 CBS-TV production didn't fare all that much better. Even today Blue Monday is rarely staged.Music Played in Today's ProgramGeorge Gershwin (1898 – 1937) Blue Monday Cincinnati Pops; Erich Kunzel, conductor. Telarc 80434

Operatic. Cinematic. Adventurous. These are just a few words to describe what some might consider to be Leprous's watershed album, Pitfalls. Released in 2019, this Norwegian prog metal band defied all expectations by exploring ambient soundscapes with dynamic vocals rather than revisiting their familiar territory denoted by harsh vocals and heavily distorted guitars. Destin and Drew share their thoughts on prog rock's history surrounding the balance between instrumentals and vocals. Can vocal-centric music and progressive rock peacefully coexist in the same musical space? In addition to these musings, the show hosts gush over their favorite moments on the record with another segment of Delve It or Shelve It, which splinters off into a detailed analysis of the rhythmically complex By My Throne, led by Destin Frost. Spoiler: the song includes a 17/16 time signature! Check us out HERE! **Prog Notes is a podcast dedicated to the genre of progressive rock. Each episode Destin and Drew tackle an album and delve into the different musical compositions, lyrics, and concepts that make it prog rock. They maintain that progressive rock is still very much alive and kicking, whether it be highlighting key moments from the early years or tracking the evolution of the genre to today's more modern groups. With each new episode, these two childhood friends encourage more people to investigate this unique, sometimes forgotten genre of music and find an album or band they can enjoy. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
