Join A Cure in Sight to interview guest, Heather McMenamin, a patient originally from England, currently living in Houston, TX, and diagnosed with ocular melanoma in 2021. “I went for my annual eye exam 9-22-21, (because of COVID it was actually 18 months since my previous eye exam, normally done every year). I was asymptomatic and more concerned about what new frame I might pick out. The doctor was quite concerned about the large mass in my left eye and said I needed to see a retina specialist STAT. I was able to get an appointment for the next morning at which time the doctor dilated my eyes and very quickly said I needed to see an Ocular Oncologist - he did not give me a diagnosis but at this point I knew it was serious. I was referred to Dr. Amy Schefler and got an appointment 9-29-21. After hours of testing she diagnosed me with Uveal Melanoma. I had Brachytherapy 11-01-21, plaque was in for 7 days. That was an odd experience to look back on. I just had my 2nd year anniversary and so far no sign of METS, next scan 10-19-23 and I began eye injections last month as I have signs of retinopathy.” If you take anything from Heather's episode, we hope you glean that knowledge is so empowering as a patient, and that the knowledge you share with others to help spread awareness makes such a key difference. Here's what to expect on the podcast:Why is it essential for a woman to know her menstrual cycle? How does understanding your cycle help you anticipate and prepare for the physical and emotional changes that may occur during different stages? What are the potential side effects or risks associated with hormonal birth control methods? What are the primary physiological changes in a woman's body during menopause? And much more! About Heather:Heather spent 25 years in the corporate world, struggling with feeling drained, overwhelmed, and out of balance, never fully understanding or even knowing the powerful impact that her ovulation cycle had on her overall health and well-being. She was taught ovulation was for reproduction only and having a period was optional. She tried several types of hormonal birth control, and although she didn't quite feel like herself, she pushed through because isn't that what we are taught? Her life took a transformative turn when she pursued certification as a health coach and FEMM trainer.Through her studies, she discovered a profound truth: ovulation cycles are not merely a biological process but a vital sign of overall health. Just like blood pressure, weight, and heart rate, these cycles play a significant role in our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Her newfound knowledge illuminated the profound impact of the cycle on shaping our relationships with ourselves, family, friends, and co-workers. Armed with this understanding, she learned how to harness the power of the cycle to increase productivity, foster creativity, boost energy levels, and combat hormonal imbalances, irregular cycles, and burnout. Now, as a Cycle Awareness Coach, owner of Vivydus, and host of the "Be Vivydus" podcast, she is passionate about sharing this wisdom with others. Through her podcast, courses, and social media sites, she dives deeper into the fascinating world of cycle awareness, sharing personal experiences and providing practical tips and insights.Join her as she empowers you to embrace your cycle, unlock your true potential, and cultivate a life of balance and well-being. Through inspiring conversations and transformative guidance, you'll discover how to harness the power of your cycle to live a vibrant and fulfilling life. Connect with Heather M. Please tune in for a big announcement and then stick around for the story of Cecilia Steyn (episode 23, originally released on September 8, 2021). Devilsdorp, the South African documentary about a series of brutal satanic murders masterminded by a self-described "42nd Generational Witch" named Cecilia Steyn, is currently a viral sensation in South Africa. Directed by Devid Enright, the doc is not yet available in the United States, but someone was able to get Muriel a copy. So of course, Muriel utilizes some of her own witchiness to smash Nick in the head with a story full of satan in Krugersdorp, mullets, cults, serial killers, samurai swords, and magical orphanages in far off lands. Dr. Snyder of the Alzheimer's Association spoke to me about long-term cognitive effects from Covid-19 and diversity issues in clinical trials. I was honored to interview two renowned people from the Alzheimer's Association before the start of this year's International Conference. The AAIC is the largest and most influential international meeting dedicated to advancing dementia science. Each year, AAIC convenes the world's leading basic science and clinical researchers, next-generation investigators, clinicians, and the care research community to share research discoveries that'll lead to methods of prevention and treatment and improvements in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. My second guest was Heather M. Snyder, Ph.D. Dr. Snyder is vice president, Medical & Scientific Relations at the Alzheimer's Association. In this role, she oversees Association initiatives that accelerate innovative Alzheimer's research and provide opportunities for the global dementia community to connect and collaborate. Topics Discussed Dr. Snyder is responsible for the progress the Association has made in Alzheimer's and dementia research funding. We discussed Covid-19s Association with long-term risk of cognitive dysfunction and the possibility of accelerating Alzheimer's symptoms. People with the virus experience short- and/or long-term neuropsychiatric symptoms, including loss of smell and taste and cognitive and attention deficits, known as "brain fog." For some, these neurological symptoms persist, and researchers are working to understand the mechanisms by which this brain dysfunction occurs and what that means for cognitive health long term. Our second topic was the need for greater diversity in clinical trials. A significant hurdle in developing therapeutics and care models for Alzheimer's disease that work for people of all ethnic and racial backgrounds is recruiting and retaining traditionally underrepresented groups in clinical trials. If you're looking to increase your awareness of the efforts on the part of the Alzheimer's Association, this is the episode to tune in and hear. TRANSCRIPT Related Episodes A Ray of Hope? Today's episode Features Heather M, and I read a portion of her novel titled Madam X. In this part, which is near the end of the book, the man whom X is having an affair with, Jefferson, surprises her by bringing his friend, Ricardo, a photographer, to take erotic photos of her. The excerpt begins at the end of the photoshoot. It is leading up to her very first experience of dominance and submission. (Note: At this point she is unaware of kink communities, scenes, negotiation, etc. She will discover all about those elements in future stories and learn more about her consent and the power a submissive truly has in the D/s relationship. About the author: A little about me ... I am Heather M. the artist and creator of the Femme Project (https://www.thefemmeproject.com/) I started it back in 2014. After almost 20 years as a Graphic Designer, Creative Director, and Marketing Consultant, I had enough and decided to go into art. I started the Femme Project because I wanted my art to be about something more than improving my craft. My primary goal with it is to address themes of femininity, sexuality, and equality for women. The bulk of my work, currently, focuses on themes about sex and sexuality. I believe that until women own and have full agency of their sex and sexuality, we cannot be truly equal. I've made a short film (https://www.thefemmeproject.com/the-erotic-drama) about dominance and submission (if you would like to see it, I can share it with you!) and written a new book (https://www.thefemmeproject.com/madame-x) which is the first in a series about a woman's journey of sexual self-discovery (the series will eventually explore her own engagement with kink and how she learns about dominance and submission). More of my short fiction can be found on the website here: https://www.thefemmeproject.com/short-fiction
Guest, Heather Petersen says she’s ditched heels, but after speaking with her it’s more like she’s always kept one foot in a work boot, while the other was in something flashier. She’s started up a women-only mentoring and workshop facility on a working farm in rural Minnesota. Before Michael can even get to that, he and Heather talk about the need to balance your own energies and spaces, they don’t have to be equal, but they need to be in sync somehow. They do pause to contemplate how some of these things may sound to the skeptical ear, but the truth is that it works. Corporate life is a rough space for us all, and when unbalanced, unsupported people walk into leadership roles it’s just chaos feeding chaos. Smart phones, computers, televisions and even children's toys are part of what makes our modern world so exciting. But these often rely on plastics and rare earth metals which are hard to recycle. Are there efficient ways to capture all those rare earth metals? How are rare earth metals in old phones recycled today, and can we make it better? Knowing which bin to put plastic in is difficult, so what if there was a more universal way to recycle plastics? How does turning plastic into a gas with the help of steam help create a circular plastic economy? How can some steam power help crack plastics back into their most basic forms? Is it possible to recycle plastics without to build whole new plastic refineries? Regulation is often playing catch up to making materials safe. Heather M. Roff, senior research analyst at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, thinks some researchers are having the wrong conversations about AI. Instead of wondering whether AI will ever be a moral agent, we should be focused on how to program the technology to be "morally safe, right, correct, justifiable." What are some practical uses for AI today? How can it be used responsibly in the military realm?

Thank you to our Co-producer patron Kevin Wetter for selecting this week's topic! This 2009 TV show, helmed by Joss Whedon, was meant to be a thematic exploration of identity and sexuality but many have argued about its problematic story. Seth and JJ discuss Joss Whedon's most controversial work, Dollhouse, which intersects with themes of human trafficking, prostitution, ownership, identity, and consent. While it's been 10 years since Dollhouse debuted for a two season run, Dollhouse's complex portrayal of trafficking is still good for a nuanced conversation of the issues. "There is a difference between Child-centered and God-centered." - Heather M. "When a child makes a mistake, our culture is looking for blame. Often that blame comes to the parents." - Heather M. "Some of our children are more compliant in younger years and that may send us the wrong message as parents as they get older." - Heather M. "The sin nature is present in all of us, including our children." - Heather M. We shouldn't be shocked when our children rebel or misbehave. They are living out the same challenges that are in us...sin." "Until our children receive Christ, we are loving unbelievers in our home...and this is our first mission field." - Heather M. "Sometimes we expect Holy Spirit fruit when they don't have the Holy Spirit..." - Heather M. "The parenting resources that our parents were handed may not work today..." - Heather M. "Our culture use to go along with religion, now they don't." - Heather M. "Our goal should not be for us to get ourselves right, but to surrender our not-rightness...and Jesus will get you right." - Heather M. "We've gone from one end of the spectrum - more rules doesn't make our kids better and no rules doesn't make them more holy." - Heather M. "Kids are your assignment. Working outside of the home doesn't negate that assignment." - Heather M. "God can still work in our mistakes." - Heather M. "You can have a horrible upbringing and God still use you to do incredible things." - Heather M. "We can't take this load that we are fully responsible for everything that our kids do. In some ways God wants to develop their story that doesn't include us." - Heather M. Parents - Are you happy, even if your kids aren't happy? Since many of you are headed to that thing in the desert, we've decided to post this week's Armory Podcast a few days early. We owe our pal, Mancub, a special thanks for introducing us to this week's talented guest, Heather M out of Brooklyn. This mix was recorded live at the renowned Electric Forest Festival in Michigan earlier this summer and we're loving it. Press play. Get down. Heather M goes after "Feel Good" music! Native Texan turned Brooklynite, Heather M's love affair with music started at an early age. She began playing the piano and the alto saxophone by the time she was 12, and her love of music blossomed through her teen years and into her early 20's when she dove head first into the world of deejaying. Heather M began her Career as a commercial House artist, making radio friendly songs and deejaying for high profile artists like opening for Justin Timberlake in LA for his Suit & Tie release etc. In 2014, She found the underground scene. This changed her entire persona and music style to strictly Tech House/House/Deep House genres. Now respected as one of NYC's rising players, Heather M is Co founder of the new famed event "Risky Business”, a Tech House movement that combines an EDM festival vibe with an underground environment; attracting both commercial and underground club goers. She's becoming a staple in the underground scene and working with well-known promoters around the globe. She's been written up in Vice, Dancing Astronaut, Edm Sauce, Edm Network, Magnetic Mag, After Ellen, and she has releases on labels Armada, Cr2, Zulu, Big Alliance, Crowd and Solmatic. We've finally made it, double digit episodes, just before we head back to school and we could not have done it without our 7 lovely fans. This week we sit down with our other cohost (Clint H)and our breezy herself (Heather M) to discuss living alone, netflixs movies, grilled cheese sandwiches, needles, and how we either saved a movie theater or we are just racist.

Happy Sunday everybody! For pt. 2 of the Summer XO, I went back and brightened things up a bit by putting some sunshine into the mix. This set has some of my go-to songs of the moment like Basement Jaxx “Never Say Never,” the unstoppable Duke Dumont's “Won't Look Back” and Kieza's “Hideaway.” Sandwiched in-between is a heaping trove of house goodness. September is pretty much gonna be a sleeper here at Party Favorz, with two new Mixtapes (which are already in the can) and a very special new Diva induction into the Hall of Fame. I still have the final five volumes of Millennial house classics to deliver so you got a pretty good idea what's coming out this month. The next EDM set(s) and the Fall Edition won't likely drop until some time in October. Anyone that's had a chance to check out the site, will notice a major re-work the layout and design. Realizing I need to restructure so I can somehow monetize it to recover my monthly costs, I'm trying out some new things. Expect even more changes to Party Favorz in the coming months. Don't worry, this ain't gonna hit your pocket-book, but hopefully will allow me to take my costs off my personal budget so it can sustain itself and still continue to provide you with the excellence in podcasting you've come to enjoy from me. If you're in the US, get out and BBQ today and enjoy your Labor Day holiday. If you're not, get out anyway and take in some sunshine. I'll start rolling some new stuff out next week. Until then …ENJOY! Album : Summer XO pt. 2 Genre : House, Deep House, Funk, NuDisco Year : 2014 Total Time : 01:50:15 1. Basement Jaxx - Never Say Never (Original Mix) 2.
