In the fortieth episode of Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks, Kyle is joined for a one-on-one conversation with screenwriter David Gutierrez to discuss the circular irrationality and chaos of an uprising going nowhere in Werner Herzog's bleak yet ironic assessment of rebellion within a closed and corrupt system in Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970).

He's Back! Robert is Back! It's the moment you've all (and mostly Lukas) has been waiting for. If you thought the last time Robert was on, he had a tricky movie with "Even Dwarfs Started Small", well get ready for the Thai avant garde Palme d'Or winner about Buddhism, reincarnation, and spirituality. Originally slated to get Devon open to more films, we finally decide to open the box of Uncle Boonmee, and unleash it on one of our most excited, entertaining, and drunkest guests, Robert White. How long ago did Brandon write this script? How quickly does Robert grasp the themes and metaphors of this incredibly challenging film? And what would it look like if a ghost monkey were posing with its' war boys? Tune in this week to find out all this and more, but only on "The Good, The Bad, & The Movies"! P.S. Ummmm... where to begin on a film like this! Welcome one, welcome all, and welcome Robert as a guest star as we tackle the hardest film for a guest yet, "Even Dwarfs Started Small". This film is a 1970 film that is all in German, all in black and white, and with a cast comprised completely of little people. This movie is very avant garde with very little surface level substance material to grasp in the traditional sense of a movie, yet here we all are. This movie was a recommendation from Lukas months ago just because of what this podcast could be based on the title, but along the way, we find the deeper meaning behind this film, and the dwarfs aren't the only ones breaking out of their confines as we open our minds to this film. What is the socially correct term for little people? Why does Robert give out his full phone number on the podcast? And are we all growers or showers? Tune in this week to find out all this and more, but only on "The Good, The Bad, & The Movies"! P.S. The Joe and Smith Podcast: Read the Book of Mormon with us

Smith once again starts again with a prayer and Joe respectfully closes his eyes. The guys talk timelines in the Breaking Call Saul-iverse. Ask and ye shall receive: Joe would like an award for being an adult. The guys talk about the “never enough” attitude both in and outside the church. Smith tells us about giving himself an out while giving Priesthood blessings. Guessing game: how many UT municipalities are named after LDS apostles? The guys talk about worshiping BY and JS. There is an LDS scripture that puts JS as the 2nd most important person to have ever lived on earth. Nice. The guys remember watching the Netflix documentary Abducted in Plain Sight (2017) which kind of serves as an example of how church members can be a little extra susceptible to sociopaths since a guy that they definitely don't worship may have been one. The guys sound old while expressing their disapproval of youtubers who do a lot of screaming. Smith mentions Andy Daily (good) and Rush Limbaugh (bad) in the same sentence. Joe is not ready to admit that he used to listen although he readily admits to all sorts of shameful Mormonocities. The guys go down a Crispin Glover rabbit hole and Smith reads a plot summary of the Werner Herzog film Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970).  Smith starts off chapter 13 reminding us that there is an angel who loves to show stuff to Nephi. Like, all sorts of stuff. The guys are reminded about how the BOM goes all-in on Christopher Columbus, and not the good one. The same chapter gives us some foreshadowing about how the BOM gets into some pretty uncomfortable territory regarding, you know, people with white skin being more blessed. Ideas for blowing through Jacob chapter 5? We still have time to figure it out. Joe has some pretty well-timed exasperated sighs in this ep. Joe isn't proud of his young jingoistic missionary self. Q- How likely is it that this abominable church was founded by a mythical creature? A- about as likely as a different church was founded by a guy who said he was visited by other mythical creatures. Fucking plain, and godamn precious, things. Yes Joe, the Pixies have a song that mentions 7 is God's number. Smith (rightfully) loses his mind over the repetition and cadence that is happening at the end of this chapter. In this episode of the Director's Club, we take a look at the unrestrainable visions of legendary German director Werner Herzog, following his quest to give audiences a sense of the "ecstatic truth" through his films.  He'll use any tool at his disposal to deliver this truth, from documentary techniques to hypnosis (and if there isn't a tool, he'll make one himself!).  We'll look at how the films span the globe from the Amazon to the Sahara to Wisconsin, and how his Muses of Madness Bruno S. and Klaus K. enhance the journeys we take.  What we can't do is fit all his works in a single episode, so this will cover from his first film "Signs of Life" through his 1987 film "Cobra Verde", and scattered throughout are quotes from the "Soldier of Cinema" himself!
