We're back down under for another Australian natural horror film. This time, we're dealing with a giant saltwater crocodile in Dark Age, released July 10th, 1987. John Jarratt joins Heavy Mag to chat about Wolf Creek Season 2.
What happens when a busload of tourists visit the Aussie outback and encounter the infamous Mick Taylor? A whole lot of murderous fun is what! Season two of Wolf Creek strayed into almost comedic territory but still managed to scare us silly with its suspense and brutal killing scenes. We speak to Tess Haubrich (Rebecca) about filming in the desert and what happened when the cast encountered a group of living and breathing tourists. (Spoiler - they survived!) Plus, we discuss why after two movies and two TV series, John Jarratt is still the perfect villain. He ticks the crucial two requirements - he's menacing AND loveable. But most importantly, he never loses and he never dies. Shownotes Your hosts today were Laura Brodnik and Clare Stephens Watch season 1 and 2 of Wolf Creek on STAN now.

In this episode of The 8 Percent Podcast, I speak with Australian Actor, Producer and Anti-Piracy Advocate, John Jarratt. Our Australian listeners will know John well – he’s been on our screens consistently for the last 40 years in everything from the iconic Picnic at Hanging Rock to Better Homes and Gardens. Globally, he’s known for his terrifying role as Mick Taylor in Wolf Creek and for being Quentin Tarantino's “favourite Australian Actor”, Quentin even wrote a part for John in his movie Django Unchained. In this podcast, John and I discuss how he got started in the industry, how young actors and film makers can forge a similar career using what’s available to them in 2016, and what he feels is the number one challenge facing the “business” end of film making. John is super passionate about putting an end to piracy and torrenting – he shares with me how piracy is destroying the Australian film industry and what he thinks can be done about it.

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. During the mid-2000's, with the DVD market beginning to spawn and the internet becoming an everyday tool, smaller independent movies, including genre films, from all over the world began to reach audiences everywhere. Directors such as Neil Marshall, Gaspar Noé, Christopher Smith, the Pang Brothers, among others became known to the genre fan masses. One of those filmmakers was Greg McLean, an Australian. And his film Wolf Creek appeared in 2005. The film played at such prestigious events as the Sundance Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. Immediately the internet went abuzz about this very raw old school film with its unusual screenplay structure, throwback aesthetics, and very frank depiction of violence. Some, including Roger Ebert, thought the film to be nothing more than appalling while others, including Slant Magazine, thought it to be one of the best films of the decade. With such polarizing opinions, the film garnered its large cult status. However as time has passed, its harshness has dimmed a bit letting the film fall naturally into genre film canon. One question asked is why did it take nine years for the sequel? Strange as that may be, it has arrived. And both Wolf Creek and its follow up Wolf Creek 2 have the ever charismatic actor John Jarratt portraying the mysterious character Mick Taylor. Your co-hosts discuss the two films and give their opinions. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
When it comes to movie villains, Australia has a top contender: John Jarratt. Jarratt made a name for himself in the 2005 horror film Wolf Creek. Based (loosely) on actual events, Wolf Creek struck a chord with Aussies and movie goers all over the world.Jarratt's character, Mick Taylor, was inspired by Ivan Milat who committed a series of grisly killings that came to be known as "The Backpack Murders."Now Jarratt reprises his role in the sequel, Wolf Creek 2. It is slotted for an American release on May 16th.In the new film we find a young German couple backpacking in the wilds of the Australian Outback. Their vacation in paradise is cut short when the come across psychopathic pig-shooter Mick Taylor. In a thrilling game of cat and mouse, Taylor relentlessly stalks his prey through the desolate barren Outback. Their struggle for survival seems utterly hopeless. When an unsuspecting motorist attempts to help one of Taylor's victims, he too becomes part of the gruesome game. It's killer vs captive in a battle of brutality and wits in one of the most imaginative torture scenes ever filmed. The film has moments of pure natural beauty interspersed with sheer brutality. And oh, that laugh, that psychotic unmistakable laugh!John Jarratt joins the Haunted Housewife for what is sure to be an electrifying interview on May 13th at 10pmE.
