What's God got to do with it? You can live out some of your purpose without God because you can use your talents, personality, character traits, etc., all of which are there specifically to equip you and qualify you to live your purpose. But when you cooperate with God (the one who planted all those good things in you), you are choosing to add "super" to your "natural" which empowers you to do more than you ever could on your own. In this episode we talk about the 5 reasons we need God to truly fulfill the good plans and purpose for our lives. Our identity is God-authored. The unique-in-all-the-world-for-all-time identity that you have is not random. You are not an accident. You are not merely a product of biology. Everything about you was intentional and deliberate. No mistakes were made. The paths toward the purpose of our lives were carved out and set before us along with the free will that allowed us to choose the paths we wanted to take. Our family, neighbors, friends, teachers, and every other influence were part of the plan for the formation of our perspective, worldview, values and beliefs. The people who have hurt us exercised their own free will to do that. The harm didn't come from God, but we need God for the fulfillment of our purpose because He specializes in working all things (including the most painful things) together for our good. We get the choice to cooperate and collaborate with Him to mine the lessons out of the painful events of our lives and then to allow those lessons to qualify us to do what we were born and equipped to do. There is a limit to how far we can go without faith in God. It is inevitable that we will hit obstacles that we can't blast through or go over, under or around on our own. That's when our faith comes in. God will not intervene without our permission. We give Him permission to do amazing things in our lives when we decide to suspend our doubt and disbelief, and humbly ask for help. We cannot FULLY accomplish God's plan without his intervention. He can open doors that no man can open. Conversely, He can close doors to keep us from walking down paths that would distract us and diminish the fulfillment of the good plans and purpose for our lives. He will only do these things for those of us who will trade our free will for His will and His purpose. The whole point of this is to say that God's plan is better than anything we can come up with! He knows better than we do what we were born and perfectly equipped to do. Suspend your doubt and give God a chance to point you in the direction of His beautiful plans and purpose for your life. LIVING YOUR PURPOSE is the antidote to depression, sadness, despair and all the problems that can be associated with those things. Living your purpose is real success, and it includes healthy relationships with good people, peace, joy, wellness, financial stability and a sense of contentedness that cannot be attained any way other than through living your purpose. So please listen every week as we continue to move toward finding and living the purpose for which you were born and perfectly matched. Have you struggled to find a group of friends you can truly lean on? I have moved more times than I can count, and it was always so difficult to start over with every new town and get myself out the door to meet new people. However, when I started to make friends, I never regretted getting out of my comfort zone. I have been attending a local bible study the past few months, and it hit me again last night how incredibly important it is to be in fellowship with others. Whether it's in person or over facetime, you need your people and they need you! Search local facebook groups for moms wanting to meet for a playdate, ask your local church if they have any events coming up, or volunteer at your child's school and try to reach out to other parents there. Everyone around you is seeking friendship just like you. Listen to today's podcast to hear why God wants us to reach out to others, be a comforting and safe space for them, and why it is so good to find loving friendships.

In this episode Joanne Williams, LCSW discusses 10 Reasons We Need to Smile- Make A Conscious effort to smile every day. Summary of today Podcast: Smiling Makes Us Attractive Smiling Relieves Stress Smiling Elevates Our Mood Smiling Is Contagious Smiling Boosts Your Immune System Smiling Lowers Your Blood Pressure Smiling Makes Us Feel Good Smiling Makes Us appear more Attractive. Smiling Makes You Seem Successful Smiling Helps You Stay Positive Question for today is? Can Smiling make me feel better? I love to Smile-I do this all the time and I feel I get positive response back from people. Especially babies. It is a fun test to play with. Smile at a baby at the supermarket and see their response. But the pandemic has required wearing a mask and it covers over smiles. So what can we do? Make an experiment and see if people respond to you under your mask smiling? Smile anyways under the mask and send them good thought and vibrations. Smiling Makes Us Feel Good. Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural painkillers, and serotonin. Together these three neurotransmitters make us feel good from head to toe. Not only do these natural chemicals elevate your mood, but they also relax your body and reduce physical pain. Many see smiling simply as an involuntary response to things that bring you joy or laughter. While this observation is certainly true, Countless scientific studies have shed light on how the act of smiling can elevate your mood and the mood of those around you. A strong link has been found between good health, longevity, and smiling. Most importantly, studies have shown that just the act of smiling (making the physical facial shapes and movements), whether the result of real joy or an act, can have both short- and long-term benefits on people's health and wellbeing. Smiling Makes Us Attractive you can use the attraction power of your smile to draw people in. We are naturally drawn to people who smile. There is a real physical attraction factor linked to the act of smiling. Smiling Relieves Stress Believe it or not, smiling can reduce stress even if you don't feel like smiling or even know that you're smiling! When you are stressed, take the time to put on a smile. You and those around you will reap the benefits. Stress can permeate our entire being, and can really show up in our faces. Smiling not only helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down, and overwhelmed but can actually help reduce stress. Smiling Elevates Our Mood Smiling can trick the body into helping you elevate your mood because the physical act of smiling actually activates neural messaging in your brain. Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile. There's a good chance your mood will change for the better. Smiling can trick the body into helping you elevate your mood because the physical act of smiling actually activates neural messaging in your brain. A simple smile can trigger the release of neural communication boosting neuropeptides as well as mood-boosting neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. Think of smiling like a natural anti-depressant. Smiling Is Contagious Smiling not only has the power to elevate your mood, but it can also change the moods of others and make things happier. How many smiles have been described as having the power to lighten up the room? While it is certainly a beautiful sentiment, it carries a hint of truth. Smiling not only has the power to elevate your mood, but it can also change the moods of others and make things happier. The part of your brain that is responsible for your controlling the facial expression of smiling is an unconscious automatic response area. Meaning that smiling can be completely unconscious, particularly when it comes to our habit of mimicking another person's smile. Yes, it is scientifically proven that smiles are "contagious!" Smiling Boosts Your Immune System The act of smiling actually helps the human immune system to function more effectively. Smiling can also boost your overall health. The act of smiling actually helps the human immune system to function more effectively. It is thought that when you smile, immune function improves because you are more relaxed (thanks to the release of certain neurotransmitters). In addition to taking precautions like washing your hands, why not try to prevent the cold and flu by smiling? 6. Smiling Lowers Your Blood Pressure-Try this one yourself When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. Give it a try if you have a blood pressure monitor at home. Sit for a few minutes, take a reading. Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. Do you notice a difference? Smiling Makes Us Feel Good Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural painkillers, and serotonin. Together these three neurotransmitters make us feel good from head to toe. Not only do these natural chemicals elevate your mood, but they also relax your body and reduce physical pain. Smiling is a natural drug. Smiling Makes Us appear more Attractive. Not only can smiling make you more attractive it can also make you look more youthful. The muscles we use to smile also lift the face, making a person appear younger. So instead of opting for a facelift, just try smiling your way through the day—you'll look younger and feel better. 9. Smiling Makes You Seem Successful Studies have shown that people who smile regularly appear more confident, are more likely to be promoted, and are more likely to be approached. Try putting on a smile at meetings and business appointments. You might find that people react to you differently. 10. Smiling Helps You Stay Positive Try this test: Smile. Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It's hard, isn't it? Even when a smile feels unnatural or forced, it still sends the brain and ultimately the rest of our body the message that "Life is Good!" Stay away from depression, stress, and worry by smiling. How can you bring a smile to your face or find things in your day to be grateful for. No matter what. Do it for the next week to add 1 step to having in a happier life right now, So check them out too. I'm sharing 3 reasons why your school needs to have a wellbeing champion role that is focused on teacher and staff wellbeing. First, I acknowledge the Gaibul people of the Toowoomba area who are the traditional custodians of the land on which I am recording this today, where I live and work, and where Self-Care for Teachers operates. I acknowledge their elders past present and emerging and that sovereignty was never ceded. So I invite you to take a moment to acknowledge the First Nations people of the land on which you are standing right now too.So right now I acknowledge this idea of having an official Wellbeing Champion position in schools is aspirational. We don't currently have an official role of Wellbeing Champion or Wellbeing Coordinator or Head of Wellbeing in most schools. 4 reasons we need to open the economy now | The Mark Harrington Show | 4-16-20 The Associated Press published a crucially important story yesterday – but not for the reasons it may have intended. While the report focuses on the effects of COVID-19 on pregnant women, who are being frightened into abortions, and the abortion facilities that service them, it lays out a compelling case for reopening the economy as soon as possible. Today, Mark discusses with Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, why opening the economy is pro-life for the vulnerable unborn, and best to fight the COVID 19 virus. Troy says there are four important reasons why reopening the country would save lives by reducing abortions: • More women are likely to go through with their abortion decisions than before the pandemic.• Women who otherwise would not consider abortions are having them out of fear.• State orders to halt surgical abortions have been largely unsuccessful.• Abortion facilities are using the pandemic to expand webcam abortions to all 50 states, despite bans on the dangerous abortion pill distribution scheme in 18 states. Additionally, if businesses don’t re-open soon the economy may crash leading to massive economic hardship for low income women leading to abortion. • To read more, go to: https://bit.ly/3erroST However, reports are also coming in from different parts of the country that abortions have been reduced during this crisis. In fact, to date all Texas’s twenty- four abortion centers are not committing surgical abortions because of Gov Abbott’s order (Planned Parenthood has appealed the order to US Supreme Court). As we know some of the centers may never re-open thus saving even more lives. Additionally, thirty-three states have orders banning non-essential medical procedures. Twelve of those have directly required abortion centers to cease committing surgical abortions. So, many women may hear this news and not believe they can get an abortion thus saving their child. • See map here: https://bit.ly/3enMrGd You can watch The Mark Harrington Show on Mark’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. Instinct is a very powerful force. As much as people are always seeking the ins and outs of success, the so-called secrets, instinct, on the other hand, is always communicating. It is always giving us these ideas that we could use to progress in our lives in virtually every aspect of it. The question is, are we listening to it? Are we attuned to the voice of instinct? Here are the 5 ways that we gain from listening to the voice of instinct.
Habakkuk 3:17-19 NOTES: If we find ourselves in the spin cycle of “why?” We will be paralyzed; God never promised answers to everything that happens to us in life. Job didn’t know all that happened behind the scenes and God never answered his inquiries of “why?”; at the end of it all Job understood what was really important, which is that he could trust God and he was satisfied with that Jacob wrestled with the angel of God all night and he received a new name “one who struggles with God”; we must also struggle with God through the good and bad times and overcome When the fields of life are barren and empty the temptation is to ask “why?” But we won’t be able to put it all together, life isn’t a jigsaw puzzle. We may not be able to comprehend but we can be confident 7 Reasons We Need to Have Faith: 1) It defines us. 2) It is our duty to God. John 6:29 3) Unbelief is the greatest evil in the world. John 3:18 4) It is the only way the Christian life can be lived. “The just will live by faith.” 5) Success is a measure of our faith. Matt. 9:29 6) More than anything else it pleases God. Are there good reasons to engage in apologetics as a spiritual discipline? In this show, Rob gives four reasons why we need to be able to defend the faith in our post Christian culture that is laced with faulty ideologies both outside and inside the church. With our culture "spinning sidewards" Rob shows how Scripture commands believers to defend the faith, and that reason demands that we defend the faith. After these two thoughts, he shows how the culture is crying out for reasons to believe and that God is providing the results. Yes, there are results and Rob share four people where the Holy Spirit used evidences to draw them to saving faith. The CCC suggests 4 reasons why we need Jesus 457 God became man in Jesus to save us by reconciling us with God. We have all sinned. Romans 6 tells us the consequences of sin is death. Death doesn't just mean the end of our earthly life. Death as the consequence from unrepented sin means eternal separation from God, but also separation from one another and the complete loss of happiness… Imagine being locked in solitary confinement, completely alone – forever, with no hope that the pain would end. That is Hell That is what Jesus came to save us from Why can't God just forgive and forget the consequences? B/C God made us free like Himself and with Freedom comes Consequences. Good choices bear good consequences, Bad choices bear bad consequences. If we want him to remove the consequences, Then He would have to remove our freedom We would not be human Imagine Playing a game with young child If every time the child made a wrong move you let him take it back, Then the child was not really playing the game, was he? For God to excuse every bad move I make, He would have to take away my freedom. Rather than destroy our human dignity; God became one of us. He suffered the consequences for us; He suffered our death And rose from the dead. Since Jesus is both God and Man, He could bear the consequences as Man, He could rise from the dead b/c He is God. By His death Jesus fulfilled the consequence of our sin. By His Resurrection He conquered death 2nd Reason we need Jesus… 458 The Word became flesh so that we might know God's love How do we know God's love? He died for us At the Last Supper Jesus tells his disciples, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends…” Then He suffered and died for us We should Read the accounts of Jesus' suffering and death in the Gospel There you will see for yourself: the outstretched arms of Jesus on the Cross, the arms of the God who proved his love for us by dying for you and me this is the Revelation of God's love 3rd Reason we need Jesus 459 The Word became flesh to be our model of holiness Jesus reveals what God is really like; He also reveals what we should be like Because Jesus was fully human He shows us how to be Fully Human Fully Alive He teaches us how to live by the way He lived He teaches us how to pray By the way He prayed He teaches us to live Mercy Through his own example of Mercy He teaches us how to fight Temptation To be calm in the storms of life To have courage under persecution To deal with rejection, privation and want To be patient in suffering and death A wonderful old Benedictine monk, Fr. Adrian, when we would be in the sacrament of Reconciliation he would turn to a small statue of Jesus and say to me How would Jesus handle these situations? Michael you must live like the Master Read and think about the life of Jesus in the Gospel For we must learn to live like the Master 4th Reason we need Jesus… 460 The Word became flesh to make us partakers of the divine nature. For this is why the Word became Man, and the Son of God became the Son of man: so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God. For the Son of God became man so that we might become God. The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he made man, might make men Gods. The whole point of life is to be Reunited to God Sin had separated us from Him The distance between us was impossible to bridge Imagine Two Shores separated by a body of water no one could swim You would need a bridge to cross over We need a bridge from God to man Where are God and man joined together? In the Body of Christ That is why Jesus gives us the Eucharist! The Body of Christ is the bridge to cross over to God (John 6:54)

Thank you for joining us and committing 20 minutes of your morning to Our Lady and the Lord
Someone give me a pen and a paper. I'm gonna sit down and write a handwritten letter. (Well, I mean, after I finish this blog post.) (Don't want to read all the words? This blog post is also a podcast—just press the triangle play button on the little black bar at the top of this post!) When I was younger, I had many pen pals. Even as an adult—before Facebook’s popularity—I found a pen pal through an old fashioned living/homesteader forum. And though she and I are now friends on Facebook, we do the vast majority of our communication by way of a handwritten note, letter, or card. The majority of people I’ve asked say they love to receive handwritten letters or cards in the mail. It lets them know someone is thinking about them because they put the effort in to sending them something special. However, most of those people I asked admitted they don’t send handwritten mail. While a few people said they don’t send cards or letters anymore because the cost is prohibitive, the majority of people I asked said they don’t send handwritten mail because it simply takes too much time. Time. You know, that thing we were supposed to be saving with all the technology and advancements we add to our lives? (That’s a whole different blog post, though, so…) Our communication now may be faster and more efficient, but is it actually better? Is it to be considered an improvement that we can blast off a paragraph's worth of response in less than 15 seconds? In some ways, maybe. But I’d argue that it’s not better in all ways or every situation. See, the thing I’ve realized is this: regardless of the reason for the death of the handwritten letter, the quality of our communication has changed because of it. And this is much deeper than what it first seems at face value. A handwritten letter requires time to write each word. I sat down to write a letter to a friend last week and was amazed at how much longer it takes to w-r-i-t-e out the very same words than if I were to type them out on Facebook. Do I want to write that paragraph about what the chickens/my kids/the neighbor did yesterday? Do I want to write out what I think of my friend’s sister’s boyfriend? Or should I leave it out? What’s really important or pertinent to this note? And how long will my 40-year-old hands and fingers hold out to continue this pen-and-paper letter? Which got me to thinking—if people had to hand write all their emotional, dramatic, political explosions, would there be as many of them? Or would we get better at sighing and scrolling past because it wouldn’t be worth our effort to drag out a pen and paper? Communication happens much faster now—and it's changed what we allow to be said. A handwritten letter devotes complete attention to the person you’re writing to. On social media, it is not uncommon for me to have several chats open at once. And while I can get a lot done in a short amount of time, I also haven’t fully given myself to any of the conversations I’m having. You can’t be scatterbrained about who you’re writing to when you’re using a pen and paper. There’s not enough room on the kitchen table to be working on 12 letters at once. You have to focus on one person at a time—which brings with it a sort of importance and reverence for the individual that’s being written to. A handwritten letter means a break in the day. It might have something to do with the fact that to write a letter, it requires that you take a break from what you were doing, but I tend to think that sitting down to work on a handwritten letter is just as enjoyable for the writer as it is for the receiver. I would argue that in the days when the handwritten letter was more common, people knew how to take a break every once in awhile. We could learn a lot from taking time for the handwritten letter. It’s more than just words on paper. It’s a break within a way to connect. But one of the biggest changes I see that’s come along with the ...

Sure, it might seem strange to suggest it, in light of the reviews that weren't as good as the three previous Disney/Star Wars movies, and the box office performance too. But that's actually one of the reasons why doing a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story would be an idea worthy of the man himself, ol' George Lucas. Today we are talking about thankfulness. But I don't want you to tune this message out just because it's a thing we tend to talk about this time of year. This message today goes far beyond the week of Thanksgiving and goes far deeper than uttering off a few quick "thanks for..." lists. Choosing to put on gratitude and thankfulness is an essential element of the Christian faith and it's vitally important to the life of the homemaker. Listen to the podcast: I’ve recorded this blog post as an audio podcast. You can read it here, or if you prefer, listen to it as a podcast below! And don't forget to subscribe to my podcast in iTunes. Right click here and save-as to download this episode to your computer. This is an especially important topic in our chaotic, crazy, and fearful world we live in today. Everywhere I turn there is more bad news of a couple I know getting a divorce, my heart is heavy for a family who is struggling to get by, there are new reports of child abuse and terrible things happening around the globe. It's enough to make anyone fearful, worried, anxious, or over burdened. So as head wade through the bad news, pray for those who are hurting, and try to piece together a response, where do we turn for HOPE? How can we focus on Christ throughout all of the turmoil, bad news, disappointments, and the everyday heart ache of life? By choosing thankfulness. November is a hard month for me personally as my mom died suddenly three November's ago. It's a time that brings up a lot of grief, anger, and even resentment. Whether you are struggling with a loss, battling anxiety over a new situation, or just wading through the every day struggles and the ups and downs, you desperately need this message. Now of course, our natural tendency is to often sit in worry and anxiety. To wonder why God allows certain things. To stew in anger or bitterness. To get so consumed with the small details of today that we can't look forward to the future with joy and hope. That's where I am coming from today. I'm looking at this concept of thanksgiving through a lens of troubled times and anxious hearts. So we need to recognize that thankfulness and putting on a grateful heart is a choice and that it can have a profound impact on our lives. 5 Reasons We Need to CHOOSE to be Thankful Today 1) Gratitude is a matter of obedience Thankfulness and gratitude are not simply good ideas, God commands us to have gratitude. And the kicker is, we are to be thankful in ALL things! Not just the happy things and the things we often think of as blessings. We are called to obedience and that means learning how and choosing to be thankful in our life. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." - 1 Thesselonians 5:16-18 "And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:14-17 If you really want to study praise and thanksgiving to God, then study through the book of Psalms. There are countless examples of turning back to God over and over again in praise and thanksgiving. In her book, Choosing Gratitude, Nancy Leigh Demoss discusses the idea of finding God's Will. She says: "Sure, details matter to God. The specifics of what church to attend, what house to write a contract on, what position to apply for, and maybe even what hotel to stay at on vacation, are decisions He gives us wisdom to make, as we seek Him and walk in line with the principles of His Word.

For an engaging pair of digit-loving World Bank economists, Nobuo Yoshida and Umar Serajuddin, the number 77 brings up mixed emotions. That’s how many countries lack data on those living in poverty. Watch our intrepid economists explain why that’s bad news, and share their ideas on how to decrease the number 77 down to, oh say zero?
