What role does technology play in the growth of modern nation-states? Does technology create and preserve individual freedom? What happens when our government regulates innovation or fails to do so? And why is being selfish good? In this episode, Yaron Brook, Chairman of the Ayn Rand Institute, joins me to analyze these timely and important topics. This episode explores the concept of rational self-interest, contrasting it with what Brook sees as a self-destructive societal trend in America. The conversation delves deep into America's foreign policy, the role of intellectuals, and the impact of technology and regulation on individual freedom and economic growth. Brook laments the lack of modern thinkers akin to Rand and stresses the need for an intellectual revolution to revive the principles of liberty and individual rights.Yaron is the best selling author of "Free Market Revolution," "Equal is Unfair," and "In Pursuit of Wealth." Yaron received his MBA and PhD in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He served as finance professor for seven years at Santa Clara University, and co founded BH Equity Research, a private equity and hedge fund manager. In the past two weeks, the term has been used for the phenomenon of white people publicly taking the knee and attempting to denounce their ‘white privilege’, the denouncing of celebrities who failed to support BLM loudly enough, and the hounding of people from their jobs for criticising the riots or for questioning white privilege. How did the protests escalate to a 21st century form of a cultural revolution? Is there a chance that the totalitarian spirit now expanding in the public sphere will spillover in politics? This talk was given in support of Yaron's book tour for Free Market Revolution under the title Free Market Revolution. How do we stop the state from continuing to grow? According to Yaron, the answer is found in the writings and philosophy of Ayn Rand. In his book Free Market Revolution, Brook argues that the reason for government intervention to increase is a set of prevailing and deeply rooted cultural ideas - specifically moral ideas.participants:Yaron BrookDr. Brook, along with Don Watkins, author of the US best-seller Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand's Ideas Can End Big Government, and hosts "The Yaron Brook Show," a live podcast on YouTube and Spreaker. Yaron Brook offers a strident defense of laissez-faire capitalism and the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Dr. Brook calls for a Free Market Revolution in the way people think about markets and about the central activity that defines market activity: the pursuit of profit. This talk was recorded on July 4 at the Objectivist Summer Conference 2005 in San Diego, CA.Only six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Navy devastated a much more powerful Japanese naval force during the Battle of Midway. This clash was America’s first major victory in the Pacific and proved to be a turning point in World War II.Dr. Yaron Brook recounts and analyzes the story of this dramatic and heroic battle. He explains what made America’s success at Midway possible and how the lessons from this one sea battle can teach us what it takes to win in war.Dr. Brook’s talk is a tribute to the brave men in uniform who, in 1942, made the victory at Midway possible, and who today, in spite of the obstacles placed in their path, fight for their own freedom and ours. I recorded my conversation with Ivana Taylor with Call Recorder and Samson Meteor USB studio microphone, on August 6. I haven't edited the recording in any manner.
