SO I POSTED SOMETHING ON X ABOUT BRITTANY PETTERSON TAKING HER BABY TO CONGRESS To say that the responses were less than family friendly was an understatement. Far too many of you showed NO sympathy for a new mom working in Congress, some of you said women of childbearing age should NOT be in Congress, or told your own story of having to go back to work so she should suck it up. It was disheartening to me. I will completely concede that her photo with her baby was a political stunt, but that doesn't change the underlying issue. I thought people on the right, which is probably most of my X feed, were about family values? I thought they were concerned that the country was being run by childless cat ladies, as JD Vance pointed out. I've got Hadley Heath Manning from the Steamboat Institute on today as she reached out after seeing the thread and wants to make the case that the Republican party should LEAD on making it easier for new moms to serve, because they've got a reason more than a childless cat lady to worry about the country they are leaving our children. She joins me at 1pm.
On Tuesday evening at Princeton University, Josh Hammer and libertarian comedian Dave Smith engaged in a Steamboat Institute-sponsored debate on whether the U.S.-Israel alliance serves America's strategic interests. The discussion explored whether Israel's policies benefit or undermine the U.S., as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's vision for the country's future.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE IN TRUMP'S NEXT TERM? The Steamboat Institute's Hadley Heath Manning joins me to talk about this column about her wishes for economic policy in Trump's next term. I think this is the biggest wild card for me about the upcoming administration and I hope Hadley is right. Find out more about the Steamboat Institute by clicking here.

Freedom of expression on college campuses has been under assault across America for years, and at Cornell University the problem was particularly bad, so a group of alumni decided they'd had enough. Through hard work and dedication, they persuaded the President to launch a university-wide free expression initiative. Cornell Alum Paul Rossi and Cornell Professor Randy Wayne join me to discuss how the University's freedom of expression initiative is working as we approach the one year anniversary of its implementation. Paul Rossi is an active high school math teacher and the co-founder and CEO of Terra Firma Teaching Alliance, a peer support and placement network of traditional K-12 teachers. Host Karl Honegger, member of The Steamboat Institute's Emerging Leaders Council Alumni Board, kicks off season 2 of Liberty Chats speaking with Writer and Director, Jimmy Morrison, about Grid Down, Power Up, a documentary that brings to light the urgency to save the U.S.power grid, starring Dennis Quaid. Jimmy created the motion graphics for the film. Grid failure is a real and imminent threat, a devastatingly deadly occurrence leading to life-threatening shortages of heat, food, and water. If protective measures are not taken, we will experience catastrophic failures leaving citizens in states of starvation, death, destruction, and darkness for months. Reports released from Texas' 3-day “snowmageddon” indicate a minimum death toll of 246, with some estimates climbing as high as 702. An outage of 1-2 years would lead to 10,000,000+ deaths. One thing is evident: the clock is ticking, and if nothing changes, the power may go out for good… Learn more about the Grid Down, Power Up at: https://griddownpowerup.com/#aboutSubscribe to The Steamboat Institute Newsletter: https://www.steamboatinstitute.org/update/sign-up-for-newsletter-updates/

It was honor to speak with Helen Raleigh for this week’s episode of the podcast. Helen is a immigrant to the United States from China. She came here with nothing but a dream of education and opportunity that her parents and grandparents never had. Her story is sure to inspire you. In this episode, I talk to Helen about some of the unbelievable abuses she and her family suffered under Communism — and about why she believes America still offers the greatest opportunity for success in the world. We discuss everything from China’s one-child policy to her thoughts on Presidential candidates presenting socialism as a viable option (and why she’s against it), as well as how she views white supremacy in this country today. She also tells about what’s going on in Hong Kong and why’s it’s so important we support the protestors there. Helen’s humble and hard-working roots are nothing but uplifting and full of hope. It was so incredible to get her honest take on issues. It was also a privilege to bring you this episode on behalf of the Steamboat Institute, where Helen and I first met. When I met Jennifer Schubert-Akin, I thought she was one of the kindest, gracious women I’d ever encountered. Little did I know there was much more to her than that. As the founder of the Steamboat Institute, a non-profit policy organization based in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Jennifer has proven herself a determined and dedicated warrior for freedom, free speech and Constitutional principles. Quote from Jennifer: We believe the most important thing we can do right is attracting people from all ideologies — left, right and in between — to hear reasonable arguments where people don’t scream at each other. I like to say, it does not take much intellectual rigor to call someone stupid. It does, however, require intellectual rigor to think through your own arguments, if you have to debate someone on the facts.Jennifer Schubert-Akin Not only that, she is an accomplished athlete who will completed her 25th Boston Marathon in a row this year and has run many 100-mile ultra-marathons, including the famous Leadville trail marathon multiple times. It’s that grit and hard work that she puts into running races that took over 24 hours that gave her the tenacity it takes to found an organization, no small feat. But she didn’t just found Steamboat — it’s thriving. Now in its 11th year, the Steamboat Institute brings names like Steve Forbes, Carly Fiorina, Ben Sasse and Ryan Zinke to the mountains for its annual Freedom Conference. Though Jennifer is conservative, she aims to foster robust debate on issues that matter from both sides of the aisle — bringing in both liberals and conservatives to debate hot issues in their “Campus Liberty” debate series. Civil dialogue is key and boy, do we need more of that these days! I loved talking with Jennifer about how hard work in one aspect of life translates to other parts of your life. I can see that so much in her and admire all that she’s done to build this growing & inspiring organization. She is certainly a female role model to all you ladies out there! Abandoned by his father at age two, Rick Sylvester lived with an abusive mother whose struggles as a member of the working poor led her to drugs, alcohol, theft, and prostitution - and eventually attempted suicide. Rick battled depression, anxiety, and PTSD as the chaos, neglect, and unpredictability of his childhood seemed to doom him to follow in his mother's footsteps. Well into adulthood, Rick stumbled through unemployment and divorce, using drugs and alcohol to numb the pain until he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Miraculously, though, he overcame the odds and today is a happy husband and father. How did this happen? Rick's answer is this: "It was the Lord.” A message of hope to those who are drowning from an undeserved childhood, Leaving Cloud 9: The True Story of a Life Resurrected from the Ashes of Poverty, Trauma, and Mental Illness speaks to millions who grew up poor, feeling ignored and hopeless, and who need the healing power of God. This indelibly American story conveys the steadfast love of Jesus and his power to deliver us from the most devastating of pasts. Join today's powerful conversation with Rick's wife, author of Leaving Cloud 9: The True Story of a Life Resurrected from the Ashes of Poverty, Trauma, and Mental Illness, Erika Andersen.
