(Come To The Table 1996).
Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Charlie Matthau, son of actor Walter Matthau. We spoke to Charlie about his amazing father & their special relationship but also his incredible mother, actor/author Carol Matthau. We quickly learn that she was (wait for it), the basis for Truman Capote's Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's. There is one small difference between the character and the person however and we discuss that too. We also discuss Carol's first husband, author William Saroyan and Charlie's grandfather Charles Marcus of Bendix Aviation – which are both bigger-than-life stories unto themselves. Somehow we were able to parse all this out and discuss what it was like growing up the son of one of the most beloved actors of his generation. Be it comedy or drama, we get into Walter Matthau's career on stage & film as well as the weird and wonderful curios of his career. An uncredited cameo in Earthquake? We discuss it. His viewing habits of the television version of The Odd Couple? We discuss that too. Along the way we discuss the Malibu beach house Charlie inhabited when host Josh Mills & family along with Walter's best pal Jack Lemmon took to Broad Beach road in the 1970s. Plus, we get to hear about Walter's penchant for card tricks, Christmas' spent at the Lemmon's house as well as what it was like for Charlie to direct his father in a film, The Glass Harp. Along the way we discuss Gloria Vanderbilt and Oona O'Neill, Howard Hughes, the unsung film Mikey and Nicky his mom starred in and much more. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and everyone has a story.

Our monthly bonus episode sees us dive deeper into the life of a figure who we discussed in our World's Worst Inventor episode, Captain Richard Pockrich. The Irish eccentric proposed putting wings on all the adults in Ireland, blood transfusions to promote immortality and also invented the eery glass harp, that musical instrument beloved of spooky and hypnotic types. Last week, Mike kicked off our two-part interview with Phil Keaggy by surveying the early part of his career with Glass Harp, as well as his conversion to Christianity and his early years as a solo artist. This week, they dig deeper by talking about Keaggy’s faith and how it has shaped his life and music, especially as an instrumentalist. Along the way, Keaggy shares the story of how he came to jam with Paul McCartney at a wedding. Cultivated is a production of Harbor Media and Narrativo Group. This episode was produced by Mike Cosper, recorded by Eddie Morris, Edited by Quinnette Connor and Mixed by Mark Owens. Music for this episode is from Glass Harp and Phil Keaggy, with our theme song by Roman Candle. Special thanks for Jeremy Kinsella for making this episode possible.
There’s a story that’s been passed around that dates back to the late 60s or early 70s where a guitar legend like Jimmy Hendrix is asked what it’s like to be the best guitar player in the world. Hendrix (or any number of other guitar titans of the era) is reported to have quipped, “I don’t know. You should ask Phil Keaggy.” That’s the mantle Keaggy carried as his band Glass Harp gained the respect of the bands they opened for in countless gigs. That is until Keaggy put down the electric guitar for a time and took up the acoustic guitar shortly after answering the call to follow Jesus. This week is the first of a two-part interview, and in this installment, Keaggy walks Mike through his fascinating career gently and unpretentiously dropping some pretty big names along the way. Phil Keaggy is perhaps one of the most admired guitarists in music today. His fans range from those who aspire just to be able to play his mistakes, to professional musicians who have been strongly influenced by his style. And in between are those who don’t play guitar, yet find solace in his beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies.Phil’s solo career has spanned more than 45 years and has included over 60 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp, as well as numerous duets and trio albums. One of the most sought after studio guitarists, Phil also continues to sell out concerts all across the United States with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock-and-roll to fully orchestrated instrumental compositions.Born on March 23, 1951 in Youngstown, OH, the ninth of ten children, Phil grew up in a home filled with music. On Phil’s 10th birthday, his brother Dave returned home with a Sears Silvertone guitar. That’s when the magic began.Phil spent most of his younger days involved in music and at the young age of 13, he joined his first band, The Keytones. He later went on to join such local groups as The Vertices, The Squires, and the Volume Four who later changed their name to New Hudson Exit.It wasn’t until 1970 when Phil’s band Glass Harp (with childhood friend John Sferra on drums and Daniel Pecchio on bass) recorded their self-titled first album that people really began to take notice of this incredibly gifted guitar player. Glass Harp gained more popularity in the Ohio area opening for such bands as The Kinks and Yes, and even performing at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in NYC. Over the next few years, they recorded two more albums entitled “Synergy” and “It Makes Me Glad”.By 1972, Phil saw his life going in a different direction and made the tough decision to leave Glass Harp and pursue a solo career. His first solo album, “What A Day”, was recorded in just a week’s time during January 1973. He married his sweetheart Bernadette that summer and the following year they moved to upstate New York and joined a church community called Love Inn.During his years there, Phil took a break from recording his own music. It wasn’t until three years later in 1976 that Phil would record his second solo album, “Love Broke Thru”, which was soon followed by a stream of albums, including the acclaimed instrumental album, “The Master And The Musician”.With the Christian Music industry really beginning to grow, Phil won his first Dove Award in 1988 for his instrumental album, “The Wind And The Wheat”. Phil’s second Dove Award came in 1992 for his Celtic-influenced, “Beyond Nature”. Each year from 1998 to 2001, Phil dominated the “Instrumental Record” category at the Doves, winning for “Invention”, “Acoustic Sketches”, “Majesty And Wonder”, and “Lights Of Madrid”. For three years in a row, Phil was voted one of the top fingerstyle guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers. These days, Phil Keaggy continues to delight audiences all over the U.S. performing primarily acoustic shows that showcase his intricate looping technique, and occasionally with a band. He is aware that God gave him a calling to deliver the Gospel through music, and for over 45 years, Phil Keaggy has been grateful to do just that, and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come.http://www.philkeaggy.com/

Expect MIRACLES … expect an impartation for SERVICE. Expect a WORD from GOD. Prepare a cup of grape juice (or wine) AND a piece of bread (or cracker). At the end of this message Prince Handley will take Communion with YOU. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “It is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.”Torah: Exodus 12:27 When He (Yeshua) had given thanks, He broke it [the matzo] and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ COMMUNION LOOKS BACKWARD “In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:25 During this last Passover supper with his talmidim (disciples) the Lord was instructing them to carry out this observance as a reminder that He was the real Passover Lamb. Looking back not only at the first Passover in Egypt, but more importantly, that He was the Passover who the next day would carry the sins of the world on the cross-stake. The New Covenant would be established and replace the Old when His blood would be shed. THE NEW COVENANT “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” NOTE: See links at the bottom of this message for teaching series on the Passover. COMMUNION LOOKS FORWARD “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He returns.” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:26 The Lord told them He would NOT take part in this supper with them again until He returns to establish His Kingdom on earth. “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” ‒ Matthew 26:29 COMMUNION LOOKS INWARD “Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 MIRACLES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE HOLY COMMUNION WHEN THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST IS DISCERNED “For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep [are dead].” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:29-30 NOTICE This passage is telling YOU that many people could have received their healing … but as a result of NOT discerning the Lord's body (not meditating on and thinking seriously about) Messiah's broken, beaten body AND His shed blood on the cross-stake … they did NOT appropriate healing. They continued in sickness or disease (even mental) … and some even died due to NOT discerning the Lord's body when they could have been healed! They did NOT take advantage of healing during the Lord's Supper! WE SHOULD EXPECT MIRACLES DURING THE LORD'S SUPPER I was invited by a well-known radio DJ in the Youngstown, Ohio USA area to preach at an outdoor meeting at Austintown Fitch Football Stadium. We had a crowd nearly the size of the Billy Graham Associates' previous meeting with virtually NO advertising other than Johnny's promos on his radio show. Johnny had recently been saved and enjoyed sharing his testimony on the radio. Johnny Kay was a super representative for Christ in his personal life as well as his public life as a DJ on radio. Before the meeting started I was on the inside of the track praying. I noticed two men in wheelchairs on the other side of the track near the stands. I thought to myself, "I wonder what decision those men will make tonight?" When I gave the invitation, one of the men in wheelchairs, named Jim, rolled forward across the gravel track to the inside of the football field (or, was rolled forward) and made a decision to follow Christ. [Plus a long haired hippy counselor led seven (7) Roman Catholic Nuns to Christ.] After the outdoor meeting at the Austintown Fitch Football Stadium I was conducting a seminar for two days for Dr. Len Evans (a Presbyterian pastor) at Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church in Niles, Ohio USA. At the end of the first day I asked for volunteers to fast with me for the next day's meeting as I was going to teach on healing. Several people fasted and in the last two hours of that next day I taught on healing. The man named Jim who had come forward in his wheelchair was attending the seminar I was teaching. Jim had been in the wheelchair nine (9) years due to TWO conditions: 1. He had been in an auto accident where a semi-trailer truck ran into him and broke his spine in several places; and, 2. He had Multiple Sclerosis. During the last day of the seminar Jim walked out of his wheelchair (for the first time in 9 years) during Holy Communion. During that seminar a well known band named “The Glass Harp” played for me with their leader, Phil Keaggy. They had just released an album titled “Synergy” (which was a tag for drugs); however, after they saw Jim walk out of his wheel chair they never played for the world again. Phil went on to be used in large music ministry festivals. Two years later, Jim gave his testimony in a large Presbyterian church somewhere in the area and several hundred people fell out of the seats under the power of the Holy Spirit. Thanks to the provision―the opportunity―to receive HEALING and MIRACLES as we take part in the Lord's Supper … as we discern His body ,,, many people have received God's blessings. You can, too! COMMUNION LOOKS OUTWARD After Jesus was raised from the dead, and right before He ascended back into Heaven, He came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you [including the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion]; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” ‒ Matthew 28:18-20 God's Kingdom is manifest on earth by YOU. You are His agent NOW. How BIG are your prayers? Are you including every nation, tribe and language? If you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you have the POWER and AUTHORITY to bind and to loose inJesus' name. You have the power and authority―in Jesus' name―to operate in prophetic prayer. The Holy Spirit is always anointing the NEW ORDER: those who are operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and praying in tongues. You will NOT rifle through the demonic forces in the heavenlies if you do NOT know HOW to pray in tongues, the language of the Holy Spirit. Do NOT be fooled. If you want to be on the “cutting edge” of contemporary works of the Holy Spirit, you need to operate in His Gifts and speak His language. Study this Model of Discipleship. One young man I prayed with for the Baptism in the Spirit, and later ordained into the ministry, personally led over 170,336 people to Messiah Jesus in (one-on-one) evangelism in 32 years! Read the influence Larry Beckmann had on those he discipled and the results of those he trained for the Lord. If you are a musician or Psalmist, allow the Holy Spirit to anoint your music whether the form be classical, alt-rock, pop, country, blues, Hip Hop or Indie. People should be healed and experience MIRACLES while listening to Spirit anointed music. The Holy Spirit is God's Agent on earth to supply the resurrection power of Messiah Jesus! PREPARE TO TAKE THE LORD'S SUPPER NOW WITH PRINCE HANDLEY Have the elements of juice (or wine) AND bread (or matzo – cracker) ready. Listen to the message at end as Prince Handley leads you in Holy Communion. Expect MIRACLES. Expect an impartation for service. Expect a word from God. ADDENDUM Would you like to learn about HOW God visits normal, everyday people with His POWER? I’m talking about experiencing His MIRACLES―real miracles―in the activities of business, education, construction, travel and engineering? Plus, HOW to create your future? The following two resources―forged in the foundry of the Holy Spirit―will help you: REAL MIRACLES FOR NORMAL PEOPLE FAITH AND QUANTUM PHYSICS Baruch haba b'Shem Adonai. Your friend, Prince Handley President / Regent University of Excellence Podcast time: 18 minutes, 7 seconds. NOTICE: I have taken Holy Communion with friends on rooftops and in alleyways.
