On today's episode, we chat with Alisa Childers! Alisa was born in the San Fernando Valley, CA to Karen and her husband, pioneer Christian artist, Chuck Girard. While still a young woman in the late 1990s, Alisa and two friends formed the group, ZOEgirl who signed with Sparrow Records in 1999. ZOEgirl went on to become one of the fastest selling debut artists in the label's history, even winning the New Artists of the Year at the 2002 GMA Dove Awards. After seven years together, the group amicably split and remain friends. Today, Alisa is a wife, mom, an author and speaker and writes a popular apologetics blog for doubting Christians and honest skeptics. Her first book, “Another Gospel? A Lifelong Christian Seeks Truth in Response to Progressive Christianity” was released in October 2020 and describes Alisa's journey over the last several years as she wrestled with questions that really strike at the heart of what it means to be a Biblical or historic Christian. Her new book, 'The Deconstruction of Christianity', hits shelves January 30th. In this seminal book, Alisa Childers, author of Another Gospel?, and Tim Barnett, creator of Red Pen Logic, will help you understand what deconstruction is, where it comes from, why it is compelling to some, and how it disorients the lives of so many. You will be able to think through the main issues around faith deconstruction and explore wise and loving ways to respond from a biblical worldview. alisachilders.com @alisachilders christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

TODAY'S GUEST: Chuck Girard, singer, songwriter, recording artist, and worship leader, is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Christian Music. He was co-founder and lead singer of the group LOVE SONG from it's beginning to the present. Born in Los Angeles, Chuck began playing music at an early age. In his teens, he formed a group called THE CASTELLS, which had two national top 20 hits. They also released the song “I Do”, which was produced by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chuck shared the stage with stars such as Roy Orbison, Jan and Dean, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Vee, and others. This led to a successful career as a studio singer and musician which included singing the lead vocals on THE HONDELLS first two albums and their biggest hit, “Little Honda.” In his early twenties Chuck became disillusioned with life, and like so many of his generation began experimenting with drugs. This led to a five-year search for God through LSD, eastern religion, and a committed “hippie” lifestyle. Rock & Roll Preacher - Chuck Girard After years of searching for meaning through drugs, Buddhism, sex, and Eastern philosophy, a long-haired hippie musician walked his bare feet into a little country church and encountered the living God. Confounded by the simplicity of the gospel, a young Chuck Girard dedicated his life to Jesus during the height of the sexual revolution and civil unrest that characterized the decade of the '60s. Along with thousands of other "Jesus Freaks" who came to be known as the Jesus Movement, Chuck's story was only just getting started. This raw and honest memoir is both refreshing and convicting. I greet you in Jesus's precious name! It is Monday morning, 8th August, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.”Acts 13:10-11We must be very careful that we do not prevent people from seeking the Lord. You see, the pro-consul was intimidated by Elymas the sorcerer. He was trying to explain to the pro-consul that Jesus was not Lord and Paul, that bold apostle, spoke up and immediately that man went blind. Don't play the fool with God.“Greater is he who is within us than he, who is in the world. 1 John 4:4“You see darkness cannot live with light. You walk into a dark room, you strike a match and the blackness recedes immediately, just like oil cannot mix with water. With Jesus Christ living within us, we have victory over the devil. In the name of Jesus, miracles happen... And that's exactly what happened. If we go to Acts 3:16, we see it again:“And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong,…”That was the lame man that was healed by Peter at the gate. We need to use the power of God at our disposal. Some of us are walking around with a child's popgun, trying to do battle against the devil when we have a scud missile at our very disposal. What have you got in your hand? You say, “I've got nothing” Well, that's what Moses said. And the Lord said, “You have got a stick in your hand, use it!” And what did Moses do? He stood against the most powerful army on earth, at that time, and overcame them by the word of God. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”Revelation 12:11Do you remember that old song? Oh, I loved it, it was sung by a man by the name of Chuck Girard and it went something like this:It's the name above all names. And we will declare it.Oh, we will declare it.It's the name above all names. And we will shout it to a dying world. Let's go out today and shout out that name of Jesus. I tell you what, that darkness must recede and the light of God will come into your life. Have a wonderful day. Jesus bless you and goodbye.

My dad has had truly one of the most interesting lives. As a successful studio singer in Los Angeles as a young adult, rubbing elbows with The Beach Boys, to becoming a hippie living in Hawaii, he encountered the gospel of Jesus Christ at a little country church after searching for God through Eastern Mysticism, LSD, and popular philosophies of the '60s.
