dUg Pinnick is known first and foremost as the soulful singer and bassist for hard rockers King's X. Born in Joliet, IL, Pinnick discovered rock & roll through such greats as Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin, while he borrowed from gospel for his singing style. When a gig backing up Christian guitarist Phil Keaggy broke up in the early '80s, Pinnick formed a new band with fellow ex-Keaggy member Jerry Gaskill (drums) and guitarist Ty Tabor. It would take several years of playing covers in bars throughout the South before the new band would click musically and eventually settle on a name: King's X. Signing to Megaforce/Atlantic in 1987, the trio became a favorite with the metal and progressive rock crowd; their music also contained elements of alternative in their hard rock, long before it became en vogue during the '90s. Pinnick is one of the few bassists of hard rock who uses a 12-string bass regularly, which is a major ingredient to the magical King's X sound. dUg sat down with Mistress Carrie to talk about the new Kings-X album, his musical upbringing, songwriting process, the bass, his inspiration, and so much more! Are you feeling burdened, tired, and just plain worn out from the rat race that your life has become? I'm hearing more and more parents say that life has become crazy with running around here, there, and everywhere. During one recent conversation with a Christian parent, these words from musician Phil Keaggy's four-decade old song “A Time and a Place” came to mind. Listen to Keaggy's take on the words of Jesus in Matthew six: “Said the robin to the sparrow, I would really like to know why these anxious human beings rush about and worry so. Said the sparrow to the robin, friend, I think that it must be that they have no heavenly father such as cares for you and me.” If you're like most parents, you feel the need to slow down. Perhaps you and I can start the process by re-thinking our purpose in life as stated by the Puritan preacher, Richard Baxter: What have we our time and strength for, but to lay both out for God? What is a candle made for, but to be burnt?”
On this Special Edition, we introduce a new “spin-off” concept show we hope to launch next year called “From The Vault” with a previously unheard interview John J. Thompson conducted with Randy Stonehill and Phil Keaggy around the release of their 2009 album Mystery Highway. The two legendary artists were in rare form as they shared stories about their first meetings, their early days, and their unique camaraderie over the years. We also present a special medley of songs from the incredible new Stonehill tribute project There's A Rainbow Somewhere, featuring contributions by Amy Grant, Sixpence None the Richer, Ashley Cleveland, Jars of Clay, Andrew Peterson, Phil Keaggy, and many others. As Keaggy announces a significant slow-down in his live appearances for 2022, and he and Stonehill gather to perform one more show together in Dayton OH (True Tunes will be there,) we present this special show “From The Vaults” to celebrate this rare story of artistry, imagination, and faithful friendship. This week's podcast is part of an entire month of "deep dives," a little something that we are calling "Deep Dive December with the 3D's." Phil Keaggy released his first CCM album (What a Day) in 1973, right at the beginning of the so-called "Jesus Music" movement. Keaggy continued to record consistently throughout the 1970s and 80s. In 1988, Keaggy recorded the finest Beatles album not recorded by the Fab Four--the critically acclaimed Phil Keaggy and Sunday's Child. Surely the pressure to follow up Sunday's Child with "Phil Sings the Beatles, part deux" was high. But Phil Keaggy has always zigged when others would zag. This week the 3D's consider Keaggy's follow up to Sunday's Child as they deep dive into the now 30-year-old classic, Find Me in These Fields. --- The 3D's are Dan, Derek, and Dave. Three friends who used to work together in early 1990s in Christian radio who love to reminisce about music from the golden era of CCM, 1985-1995. If you love classic Amy, Michael, Petra, Russ, and White Heart, you have found your new favorite podcast. New episodes drop every Monday. "I don't need anything except the Lord! Oh, I need this." Christendom is full of traditions and rules that weigh men down and draw them away from Christ and the Word of Truth. This podcast was recorded a couple of weeks ago, and I decided, despite some things which may not go over well, that the main message is important. This message includes my early experiences with contemporary Christian music as well.
SPECIAL EDITION #1: Happy Birthday Phil Keaggy! – Listen to the uncut conversation between Phil Keaggy, Rex Paul and host John J. Thompson, conducted shortly before the release of their blistering rock project, Illumination, last year. How did a piece of long lost tape and 20 seconds of audio from fifty years ago become a whole new song? How does an artist as accomplished as Keaggy approach life as an indie? How does collaboration speak into his work after all these years? You heard some short clips of this on the Pilot episode of the podcast last year, but now you get to hear the whole conversation in honor of Phil’s birthday AND to mark his 50 years in the faith. We all seem to have some more “Time” on our hands these days. Use yours wisely. Phil Keaggy sure has. (Includes excellent advice for up and coming artists and producers!) This uncut interview is also a sneak peek of what's coming for folks who join our patron program. There's a lot more where this came from.
Phil Keaggy is known as one of the world’s greatest guitarists. He’s recorded over 50 albums since beginning his career in the late 1960’s and he’s not slowing the pace, even at 68-years old. Recently releasing a collaboration with Nashville producer and guitarist Rex Paul Schnelle called “Illumination,” the duo have recaptured the fire of early Keaggy classics and penned some new ones especially for this record. John Chisum met with Keaggy and Schnelle to talk about life, careers, and music and the outcome was so special we had to break it up into two parts so you could enjoy the wit, humor, and devotion of these world-class musicians to the fullest. John’s conversation with both Phil and Rex proved to be warm, engaging, fun, and even worshipful as they touched on topics as diverse as emoting through their guitars, losing children through miscarriage and premature birth, Phil losing a finger as a child, and writing songs out of true emotion rather than craft alone. Be sure to download John’s free gift of “The Songbuilders Blueprint” HERE and book a free discovery call with John HERE, but only if you’re serious about investing in yourself to go to the next level in your songwriting. My interview with Christian music pioneer Phil Keaggy. We discuss how he got his start playing for Christ as well as his journey through his early years. What a blessing to interview one of my favorite artists. Oh yeah, he plays a bit of guitar too!
Part 2 of my interview with one of my favorite guitar players, Christian music pioneer Phil Keaggy. We discuss how he has remained so prolific though the years. Also discussed are the early days of Christian music.
Ric Hordinski"The rarest kind of virtuoso"For years, musicians in the know have recognized Ric Hordinski as the "guitarists' guitarist." For fans of acoustic music. Ric's function as musical director (and producer) for artists like Phil Keaggy, David Wilcox, Over The Rhine and others has sometimes elevated him to a kind of underground mythic status.Ric has appeared on records with Jim James (my Morning Jacket) Bootsy Collins, Phil Keaggy, John Mayer, David Wilcox, Ben Harper, Richard Thompson, Tony Levin, Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead), Victor Wooten, Victoria Williams. Robbie Fulks and many others. As a live performer he’s shared the stage with a dizzying array of musicians: Johnny Cash, Moby, Bob Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Indigo Girls, and many others. He's produced award-winning records for a host of folks including Over The Rhine, Wilcox and Phil Keaggy. On his own, hiding behind the Monk moniker, he released six independent records that featured alternately the songwriting craft he honed during his eight years in OTR, the ambient guitar that garnered demand as a studio musician and the ear for songcraft that makes him an excellent producer. He seems to be one of the few musicians able to straddle comfortably the distance between ground-breaking avant-garde explorations (witness his association with people like David Torn) and truly beautiful pop music. Paste Music has called him " the rarest kind of virtuoso, the kind who knows when not to play" this penchant for understatement has it's rewards: ric received a Grammy nomination in 2003.quotes:"Hordinski shows himself to be the rarest kind of virtuoso - one who knows when not to play...and what not to play.... what makes Hordinski's music so compelling is that it transcends both notes and spaces, communicating to the listener something that transcends the literal." —Reid Davis, Pastemusic.com"...a remarkably talented & broadbanding pan-idiomatic artist, he's also proven to be a veritable dude ..." —David Torn"Ric is a painter, using the melodies of strings to communicate beautiful colors. He plays beautiful guitar." —Phil Keaggy"...complex and compelling. The melodies remain in my head while the lyrics circle in my memory. The words wear well as they leave room to dream. The message is good medicine, it makes me feel better every time." —David Wilcox"Ric Hordinski layers stark acoustic, twang grunge electric and pretty lap steel over ...confessional, confrontational vocals." —Guitar Player Magazine"Ric Hordinski plays and sounds like warm cashmere feels - and somehow performs a magic trick by keeping a luminous transparency in his production." —Rob Fetters"Listening to Hordinski at his best is like watching someone throw a really well worded fit. His work ...will leave you breathless." —Dave Canfield, Cornerstone Magazine
Last week, Mike kicked off our two-part interview with Phil Keaggy by surveying the early part of his career with Glass Harp, as well as his conversion to Christianity and his early years as a solo artist. This week, they dig deeper by talking about Keaggy’s faith and how it has shaped his life and music, especially as an instrumentalist. Along the way, Keaggy shares the story of how he came to jam with Paul McCartney at a wedding. Cultivated is a production of Harbor Media and Narrativo Group. This episode was produced by Mike Cosper, recorded by Eddie Morris, Edited by Quinnette Connor and Mixed by Mark Owens. Music for this episode is from Glass Harp and Phil Keaggy, with our theme song by Roman Candle. Special thanks for Jeremy Kinsella for making this episode possible.
There’s a story that’s been passed around that dates back to the late 60s or early 70s where a guitar legend like Jimmy Hendrix is asked what it’s like to be the best guitar player in the world. Hendrix (or any number of other guitar titans of the era) is reported to have quipped, “I don’t know. You should ask Phil Keaggy.” That’s the mantle Keaggy carried as his band Glass Harp gained the respect of the bands they opened for in countless gigs. That is until Keaggy put down the electric guitar for a time and took up the acoustic guitar shortly after answering the call to follow Jesus. This week is the first of a two-part interview, and in this installment, Keaggy walks Mike through his fascinating career gently and unpretentiously dropping some pretty big names along the way. Special thanks to Jeremy Kinsella for making this episode possible.

Phil Keaggy is perhaps one of the most admired guitarists in music today. His fans range from those who aspire just to be able to play his mistakes, to professional musicians who have been strongly influenced by his style. And in between are those who don’t play guitar, yet find solace in his beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies.Phil’s solo career has spanned more than 45 years and has included over 60 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp, as well as numerous duets and trio albums. One of the most sought after studio guitarists, Phil also continues to sell out concerts all across the United States with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock-and-roll to fully orchestrated instrumental compositions.Born on March 23, 1951 in Youngstown, OH, the ninth of ten children, Phil grew up in a home filled with music. On Phil’s 10th birthday, his brother Dave returned home with a Sears Silvertone guitar. That’s when the magic began.Phil spent most of his younger days involved in music and at the young age of 13, he joined his first band, The Keytones. He later went on to join such local groups as The Vertices, The Squires, and the Volume Four who later changed their name to New Hudson Exit.It wasn’t until 1970 when Phil’s band Glass Harp (with childhood friend John Sferra on drums and Daniel Pecchio on bass) recorded their self-titled first album that people really began to take notice of this incredibly gifted guitar player. Glass Harp gained more popularity in the Ohio area opening for such bands as The Kinks and Yes, and even performing at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in NYC. Over the next few years, they recorded two more albums entitled “Synergy” and “It Makes Me Glad”.By 1972, Phil saw his life going in a different direction and made the tough decision to leave Glass Harp and pursue a solo career. His first solo album, “What A Day”, was recorded in just a week’s time during January 1973. He married his sweetheart Bernadette that summer and the following year they moved to upstate New York and joined a church community called Love Inn.During his years there, Phil took a break from recording his own music. It wasn’t until three years later in 1976 that Phil would record his second solo album, “Love Broke Thru”, which was soon followed by a stream of albums, including the acclaimed instrumental album, “The Master And The Musician”.With the Christian Music industry really beginning to grow, Phil won his first Dove Award in 1988 for his instrumental album, “The Wind And The Wheat”. Phil’s second Dove Award came in 1992 for his Celtic-influenced, “Beyond Nature”. Each year from 1998 to 2001, Phil dominated the “Instrumental Record” category at the Doves, winning for “Invention”, “Acoustic Sketches”, “Majesty And Wonder”, and “Lights Of Madrid”. For three years in a row, Phil was voted one of the top fingerstyle guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers. These days, Phil Keaggy continues to delight audiences all over the U.S. performing primarily acoustic shows that showcase his intricate looping technique, and occasionally with a band. He is aware that God gave him a calling to deliver the Gospel through music, and for over 45 years, Phil Keaggy has been grateful to do just that, and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come.http://www.philkeaggy.com/

The New Covenant would be established and replace the Old when His blood would be shed. THE NEW COVENANT “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” NOTE: See links at the bottom of this message for teaching series on the Passover. COMMUNION LOOKS FORWARD “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He returns.” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:26 The Lord told them He would NOT take part in this supper with them again until He returns to establish His Kingdom on earth. “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” ‒ Matthew 26:29 COMMUNION LOOKS INWARD “Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 MIRACLES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE HOLY COMMUNION WHEN THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST IS DISCERNED “For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep [are dead].” ‒ 1 Corinthians 11:29-30 NOTICE This passage is telling YOU that many people could have received their healing … but as a result of NOT discerning the Lord's body (not meditating on and thinking seriously about) Messiah's broken, beaten body AND His shed blood on the cross-stake … they did NOT appropriate healing. They continued in sickness or disease (even mental) … and some even died due to NOT discerning the Lord's body when they could have been healed! They did NOT take advantage of healing during the Lord's Supper! WE SHOULD EXPECT MIRACLES DURING THE LORD'S SUPPER I was invited by a well-known radio DJ in the Youngstown, Ohio USA area to preach at an outdoor meeting at Austintown Fitch Football Stadium. We had a crowd nearly the size of the Billy Graham Associates' previous meeting with virtually NO advertising other than Johnny's promos on his radio show. Johnny had recently been saved and enjoyed sharing his testimony on the radio. Johnny Kay was a super representative for Christ in his personal life as well as his public life as a DJ on radio. Before the meeting started I was on the inside of the track praying. I noticed two men in wheelchairs on the other side of the track near the stands. I thought to myself, "I wonder what decision those men will make tonight?" When I gave the invitation, one of the men in wheelchairs, named Jim, rolled forward across the gravel track to the inside of the football field (or, was rolled forward) and made a decision to follow Christ. [Plus a long haired hippy counselor led seven (7) Roman Catholic Nuns to Christ.] After the outdoor meeting at the Austintown Fitch Football Stadium I was conducting a seminar for two days for Dr. Len Evans (a Presbyterian pastor) at Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church in Niles, Ohio USA. At the end of the first day I asked for volunteers to fast with me for the next day's meeting as I was going to teach on healing. Several people fasted and in the last two hours of that next day I taught on healing. The man named Jim who had come forward in his wheelchair was attending the seminar I was teaching. Jim had been in the wheelchair nine (9) years due to TWO conditions: 1. He had been in an auto accident where a semi-trailer truck ran into him and broke his spine in several places; and, 2. He had Multiple Sclerosis. During the last day of the seminar Jim walked out of his wheelchair (for the first time in 9 years) during Holy Communion. During that seminar a well known band named “The Glass Harp” played for me with their leader, Phil Keaggy. They had just released an album titled “Synergy” (which was a tag for drugs); however, after they saw Jim walk out of his wheel chair they never played for the world again. Phil went on to be used in large music ministry festivals. Two years later, Jim gave his testimony in a large Presbyterian church somewhere in the area and several hundred people fell out of the seats under the power of the Holy Spirit. Thanks to the provision―the opportunity―to receive HEALING and MIRACLES as we take part in the Lord's Supper … as we discern His body ,,, many people have received God's blessings. You can, too! COMMUNION LOOKS OUTWARD After Jesus was raised from the dead, and right before He ascended back into Heaven, He came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you [including the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion]; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” ‒ Matthew 28:18-20 God's Kingdom is manifest on earth by YOU. You are His agent NOW. How BIG are your prayers? Are you including every nation, tribe and language? If you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you have the POWER and AUTHORITY to bind and to loose inJesus' name. You have the power and authority―in Jesus' name―to operate in prophetic prayer. The Holy Spirit is always anointing the NEW ORDER: those who are operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and praying in tongues. You will NOT rifle through the demonic forces in the heavenlies if you do NOT know HOW to pray in tongues, the language of the Holy Spirit. Do NOT be fooled. If you want to be on the “cutting edge” of contemporary works of the Holy Spirit, you need to operate in His Gifts and speak His language. Study this Model of Discipleship. One young man I prayed with for the Baptism in the Spirit, and later ordained into the ministry, personally led over 170,336 people to Messiah Jesus in (one-on-one) evangelism in 32 years! Read the influence Larry Beckmann had on those he discipled and the results of those he trained for the Lord. If you are a musician or Psalmist, allow the Holy Spirit to anoint your music whether the form be classical, alt-rock, pop, country, blues, Hip Hop or Indie. People should be healed and experience MIRACLES while listening to Spirit anointed music. The Holy Spirit is God's Agent on earth to supply the resurrection power of Messiah Jesus! PREPARE TO TAKE THE LORD'S SUPPER NOW WITH PRINCE HANDLEY Have the elements of juice (or wine) AND bread (or matzo – cracker) ready. Listen to the message at end as Prince Handley leads you in Holy Communion. Expect MIRACLES. Expect an impartation for service. Expect a word from God. I’m talking about experiencing His MIRACLES―real miracles―in the activities of business, education, construction, travel and engineering? Plus, HOW to create your future? Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! I had the chance to catch up with Christian music artist Cheri Keaggy at NRB 2016 in Nashville. In the interview she gives us an update on the fan response to her recent album No Longer My Own. About The Album:No Longer My Own seeks to embolden fellow sojourners of the faith to live more fearlessly for Christ. Perhaps that sentiment is best expressed in the album's title cut, a song inspired by the "Covenant Prayer" popularized by John Wesley. Listeners can look forward to such vertically oriented songs of celebration as "Lucky To Be Breathing Your Air," prayerful petitions like "Jesus, One and Only," poignant ballads like "You Go Before," and the powerful anthem, "Overcome," a response to recent news reports of believers facing persecution, even unto death, and the increase of moral decay in our nation. She also enlists her uncle, Grammy nominee and Dove Award winner Phil Keaggy, who contributes a jubilant ukulele track in the lighthearted Scripture song, "Whatever is True (Phil. 4:8)." Keaggy employed the innovative Kickstarter crowd-source business model to fund the project, joining such high profile Christian recording artists as Carman, Shaun Groves, John Schlitt, Five Iron Frenzy and Thousand Foot Krutch, who also used the outside-the-box service to fund recent projects. Keaggy is no stranger to the business model, having successfully employed Kickstarter to raise nearly $25,000 to fund her 2012 release, So I Can Tell. While Keaggy admits to being both humbled and excited by the number of doors that opened for ministry through concerts, church services, women's events, TV appearances, interviews, and radio airplay as a direct result of So I Can Tell, she insists the story is far from over. With a quiver full of new songs burning in her soul, Keaggy prays No Longer My Own will inspire and embolden fellow saints to live more fearlessly for Christ. About The Artist: Cheri Keaggy began her career as a worship leader at a small church in Southern California before recording her debut album on Sparrow Records, Child of the Father, in 1994. Honored with a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year, Keaggy has gone on to record eight additional albums, resulting in nine No. 1 songs, three Dove Award nominations and a Dove Award win. After more than two decades in music, her ministry has expanded to include speaking engagements as well. For additional show notes, visit ShaunTabatt.com/060.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today my special guest is Cheri Keaggy and we're discussing her new album No Longer My Own. About The Album: Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter Cheri Keaggy has been hard at work in the studio producing and recording her ninth album, No Longer My Own. The project releases to retail on Friday, August 7, 2015 from Psalm 91 Records and Elevate Entertainment. No Longer My Own seeks to embolden fellow sojourners of the faith to live more fearlessly for Christ. Singer/songwriter Bob Bennett joins us on Pardoned By grace. We also have Dr. Phil Bray who shares this weeks message.
Phil Keaggy is perhaps one of the most admired guitarists in music today. His fans range from those who aspire just to be able to play Keaggy's mistakes, to professional musicians who have been strongly influenced by his style. And in between are those who don't play guitar, yet find solace in his beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies.Phil's solo career has spanned more than 30 years, and has included over 50 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, as well as 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp. One of the most sought after studio guitarists, Phil also continues to sell out concerts all over the United States, with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock-and-roll to fully orchestrated instrumental compositions.
Legendary guitarist Phil Keaggy spends some time talking about the old days, on the road, collaboration, the Grammy's, and Dove Awards.
Cheri Keaggy visits todays Midwatch. If the eyes are the windows of the soul, than perhaps music is the door to the heart. The melody and lyrics speak the truth, treasure, and tragedy that lie within. Sometimes the music is gentle, a light tapping on the shoulder. Other times, it’s more direct, with power and conviction. Much like life, there are themes of exuberant celebration, quiet introspection, searing anguish, and humble gratitude. But, when the music is especially sweet, it comes like soothing balm to the weary soul, renewing the mind, refreshing the spirit, and rendering the heart forever changed. If music is the door to the heart, than there’s no secret to Whom Cheri Keaggy’s heart belongs. - See more at: http://cherikeaggy.com/about-cheri#sthash.YgnxJHlb.dpuf Midwatch With The Rev Thousands have tuned in to listen to one of the most entertaining and extremely funny Christian talk show hosts on the air.Midwatch interviews Christian authors, artists, movie producers, indie film makers, ministers and just about anyone with a story of faith. I SO long for Phil to do another album in this style. Wonderful rock record with Beatle overtones. I like his acoustic stuff too, but he's LONG overdue for another rocking album. Check out the great rocking song "Doin' Nothing", the last song of the podcast. The songs included are: 01- Baby Blue 02- Don't Pass Me By 03- Everywhere I Look 04- Doin' Nothin' http://www.philkeaggy.com
Selected songs from the long awaited vocal return of Phil Keaggy! Whil I've been hoping for his "rocking" return, a'la his album "Blue", this will have to do for now. And this by no means is "settling" for something mediocre. This is just a softer style. The only rocker is the song "Why", which features vocals by Ian Keaggy. There's no way around hearing the beatles influences in this set of songs! Enjoy! Songs included are: 01- Dream Again 02- Thank You For Today 03- Love Is The Reason 04- Why http://www.philkeaggy.com
