Will and Jaren talk in detail about the Mavericks signing former Slam Dunk Contest champion Derrick Jones Jr. to a year fully-guaranteed veteran minimum contract. They talk about the defensive versatility Jones can bring to the Mavericks guarding 2-4, as well as how he'll fit offensively as a part-time short roller, excellent cutter, and transition finisher. They touch up on Jones' less than ideal 3-point percentage, and talk about how it going up could be improved given the openness of his spot up shots since he'll likely become a benefactor of Luka Doncic's playmaking. They then divulge into the Mavericks' recent training camp additions of Greg Brown III and Joe Wieskamp before rounding out the segment by posing the question of, "Who will get the Mavericks last 2-way roster spot?" Lastly they talk about how much Jones raises the floor of this Mavericks team before previewing Dirk Nowitzki's Hall of Fame enshrinement on Saturday in Springfield, Massachusetts. They talk glowingly about Dirk and how much he deserves the honor and Jaren gives us a personal anecdote on Dirk's personal significance to him. -Follow us on Twitter @Mainstream214 and like, subscribe, and give us a good rating or comment down below on whatever listening platform you are listening on, thank you for listening to this podcast and supporting!

Damian Lillard matched his own franchise record with 11 three-pointers, scoring 38 points in just three quarters of work during the Trail Blazers blow out win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was a beat down. But how Dame got his points was as important as how many he scored. Join Danny Marang for a Jacked Ramsays After Dark that saw the Portland Trail Blazers defeat the Utah Jazz, 116-111 on the road and improve to 12-11 on teh season. It was a special night for Anfernee Simons, who finished the night with a new career high of 45 points on 15-25 FG, 7-12 3FG and 8-8 FT - who scored 36 of those points in the 1st half (also a career high for points in a half) but it all started with his 23 points in the 1st quarter (career high for points in a quarter) that got the Blazers the offense they needed to jump start them. After the offensive explosion for Simons in the 1st (40 points for the team) the scoring slowed to a standard pace that saw contributions up and down the board. Jerami Grant took over the 2nd half as Simons was clearly tired and finished with 13 of his 33 points in the 4th quarter. A slow and awkward first half from Jusuf Nurkic turned into one of Nurk's most impactful 2nd halves of the season - where perhaps only his early season performance against Deandre Ayton and the Suns being more important. He was a deterrent at the rim, secured rebounds and traffic and generated multiple 2nd chance opportunities that Portland desparately needed down the stretch. Trendon Watford and Greg Brown III both played big roles tonight with their energy and hustle - 9 points, 14 rebounds and also cleaned up on the offensive glass. While Brown III brought energy when the Blazers needed it, finishing with 6 points and 4 rebounds along with some rather inspired defense. All in all, a great win for the Blazers when they needed it most. Thet got it done by getting into their offense early, trusting the hot hand when it was going and timely defensive stops. Significantly more fun and reminiscent to how the season started. Tap in and enjoy the show! The Trail Blazers lost on Thursday. They lose on most days. It's the plan. They're 2-19 since the All-Star Break and are riding a nine-game losing streak after a drubbing in New Orleans against the Pelicans. But let's be positive. This is the 1,000th episode of Locked On Blazers and that milestone deserves some positivity. So let's find some reasons for optimism during a long stretch of beatdowns in Rip City.Keon Johnson has improved with an extended run, showing some real shooting touch and improved decision making in certain spots that serves his tremendous athletic gifts. Ditto for Greg Brown III who was out of his depth earlier this season and has shown important strides during the final stretch of the season, growing from project to potential contributor. That's real and obvious progress from two rookies.Speaking of rookie, Brandon Williams signed a two-way contract and looks to be well above that level of point guard heading into next season. Portland may have discovered a true back up point guard while they were prioritizing youth to end the season. Williams can score, can pass and can get anywhere off the dribble. That's a pretty good starting place for young guard. And finally Drew Eubanks is one of the best stories of the Blazers season. Back in Oregon where he went to high school and college, Eubanks has blossomed into an NBA player when he career was on the rocks prior to coming to Portland. The Blazers tank gave Eubanks a chance to prove he can be an NBA player and he has seized that chance as well as anyone on the roster. The Shaq of Troutdale, baby! Learn more about your ad choices. On this edition of The Blazers Balcony, presented by SoleSavy and recorded on the road in Phoenix, Brooke Olzendam and Casey Holdahl discuss the pronunciation of the word "crayon," what to do with the top of a wool cap, meeting Drew Eubanks' fiancé in an elevator, Brooke's favorite "Street Fighter" characters, family Tetris, wearing shorts on TV, Portland starting their post All-Star break stretch with three-straight losses of more than 30 points, Anfernee Simons vs. Jae Crowder, arena logistics, Kevin and Lamar keeping games interesting, Calabro at the pool, a Brooke Hearts Your Heart campaign update, Greg Brown III vs. JaVale McGee and theories on why Brown and Trendon Watford are coming off the bench.
Join Danny Marang as he takes a look at the Portland Trail Blazers' 3rd straight loss of 30 points or more with Wednesday night's defeat coming at the hands of the Phoenix Suns, 120-90. Long story short, this is what you can expect for the remainder of the season. The Blazers don't have the talent (purposefully) right now to compete. It's very clear that the team is looking to get the best odds possible to get into the top 4 of the NBA Draft. However, in every night there will be glimpses to enjoy. Normally, it will be the play of Anfernee Simons - pulling up off the bounce, getting down hill and hitting an unreal floater or ripping a one-handed pass to the second-side corner. Other times, like tonight, you'll see Trendon Watford put together a stat line; 13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists that makes you raise an eyebrow about what he could be down the road. Then there's the much more in your face example of Greg Brown III absolutely banging on JaVale McGee that makes you want to tune in for GB3's every minute. All-Star Weekend had a strong Friday night with the Rising Stars game and a great capper with the big game on Sunday night but the middle day of the league's midseason showcase is a mess. Are there lessons learned from the rest of All Star Weekend that could be applied to the dunk contest and the three-point shootout to make them less wack? Maybe?Clyde Drexler offered some insight into the end of his Portland Trail Blazers career and how it might apply to Damian Lillard's place with the team at this juncture. This was probably overblown on the internet but it says more about Clyde's place with the fan base than anything about Drexler-Lillard parallels or unsolicited advice from one legend to another. Finally, the end of the Blazers rotation is filled with young guys with uncertain futures. Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they go over Wednesday night's game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers... a game that saw a healthy Lebron James and Anthony Davis get outplayed by a built on the fly, young scrappy Portland team, who earned the 107-105 win. After an abysmal first half from Anfernee Simons, he came out ROARING to start the third quarter, dropping 25 points the final two frames and 29 points on the evening, Simons will get top billing but the role players, heck the deeeeeeep role players, pushed up in their pecking orders due to trades; CJ Elleby, Greg Brown III, KELJIN BLEVINS. All delivered some of their best performances as young pros. Beyond a fun win over the Lakers, join the guys to take a look at the upcoming trade deadline that's only 14 hours away. Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague take a look at today's breaking news: Damian Lillard's surgery happened, CJ McCollum had a baby (with his wife), the Trail Blazer hired a new Assistant General Manager- Andrae Patterson, oh and the Blazers took on the Denver Nuggets in Denver to kick off a 6-game road trip, losing 140-108. With the loss, the Blazers (10th) are now only 2 games ahead of 14th place Oklahoma City for a bottom 5 worst record in the league. With Lillard likely out for the season and the continued absences of multiple starters & contributors (McCollum, Norman Powell, Anfernee Simons, Larry Nance Jr.), this is what most of the remaining season will probably look like. Hunting for good performances from Nassir Little and Simons - watching rookies Trendon Watford and Greg Brown III make mistakes - that's the vision for the next few months and that's not a bad thing. With the impending trade deadline less than a month away and then March Madness weeks after, there's plenty to still be excited about and look forward to. So hop in with the fellas and get involved! It's Mail Bag Monday on Jacked Ramsays - hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague are answering your questions following the Portland Trail Blazer's opening Summer League victory vs the Charlotte Hornets. Unfortunately, Greg Brown III, Michael Beasley, Kenneth Faried, Emmanuel Mudiay and the human flame thrower that was Antonio Blakeney were no match for grand scale questions facing the Trail Blazers - most specifically, outside of perhaps signing a player off the Summer League roster - are the Blazers mostly built for the 2021-22 NBA season? Is there a CJ McCollum trade still to cling to? Perhaps Ben Simmons or Pascal Siakam could still be a beacon of hope to salvage a request by Damian Lillard to improve the roster? If all else fails... what's the best pizza to eat while watching the Blazers? That and more on this week's episode! SUBSCRIBE: iTunes & Spotify Learn more about your ad choices.
