This week, we're reacting to the 2025 Slam Dunk Contest and the suggestion that threepeat champion Mac McClung is the greatest dunker of all-time. Given our disdain for boosts, props, and gimmicks in the contest, we're inclined to disagree! We also join the community in discussing the most frustrating types of players to play with and against in organised leagues and pick-up alike, and recap two great sessions with NBA Live 16 and NBA Live 10. The NBA hosted its All-Star Weekend and...why are there so many non-basketball things going on? Kevin Hart was roasting players DURING a game. MrBeast was hosting a halftime shootout that seemed wildly forced. A YouTuber named Jesser probably cannot dunk a basketball on a regulation rim, and he was one of the judges of the Slam Dunk Contest! And oh so many commercials and stoppages in play. The Internet was ablaze with criticism, and understandably so. Even some of the players were getting annoyed. That's when you know things are really bad. Also, let's bring back NBA Jam Session!Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. On deck: (6:29) NBA All-Star Weekend has come and gone. Was there anything to get wrapped up in? I don't think so. In fact, there were a couple of players who weren't in favor of the new format as far as the actual game goes. Do the players have a better idea for what the All-Star Game should be? I'll get into Mac McClung's three peat champion of the Slam Dunk Contest. What if LeBron James participated at the age of 40? Also, should more name players/All-Stars throw their hat in the ring to perform for the fans? I'll take a look back on the ‘first half' surprises and disappointments throughout the Association as we're still days away from the schedule resuming. Oh! And I'll peak at my over/under win totals to date. (28:13) Auburn has secured their spot as the best team in the country with a solid win at #2 Alabama on Saturday. Is their game suited for a tournament run next month? (35:07) Who would've thought that the 4 Nations Face-Off would be the talk of the sports world on Saturday night after an epic start to the game between USA-Canada. There were three fights in the first nine seconds of the game, harkening back to yesteryear when fighting was a staple in the sport. Could it make a comeback of sorts for fight fans like myself? I'll also look at what the ‘first half' on the ice has been with the surprises and disappointments throughout the NHL, as well as, my over/under point totals on the season at this point. (51:02) MLB Spring Training is in full swing. There is some news coming out of a couple of camps regarding injuries (Yankees Giancarlo Stanton, in particular) and the Mets newest toy Juan Soto is all smiles on his first day in camp. (55:51) Men's tennis player and number one in the world, Jannik Sinner, has been suspended for three months for violating the sports doping policy. Did he get off light? (1:00:25) William Byron is now a two time Daytona 500 winner after avoiding a crash late in yesterday's festivities. I'm back, after a week off to watch that butt kicking Super Bowl by the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, the United States and Canada had a mini war last night in Montreal. Three fights in the first nine seconds of the game was AWESOME! I love Canada, but the GURU isn't down with the booing during the national anthem. That forced the US to score three unanswered goals, on their way to a four nations victory. This might be the first round between the two teams. Tyler Herro won the Three-Point Shootout, Matt McClung won the Slam Dunk Contest for the third straight year, without any of the big named superstars. Check out your television, and check out Paradise! This one is outstanding. Thanks for listening and enjoy the rest of your Sports Weekend. We will be back next week with Episode 257 of the GURU TALKIN SPORTS podcast.
The CHGO Bulls crew do an All Star break edition of Mailbag! Peck, Big Dave and Will Gottlieb answer questions from the CHGO Diehards Discord and Twitter. Does Arturas Karnisovas have a secret plan to trade the Bulls 2025 first round pick instead of using it to draft young talent? If the Bulls end up picking in the #7-10 range, who will be the best prospects on the board? Should Bulls fans believe in the “groundwork” calls AK was making as the deadline passed for big offseason moves?
ESPN NBA Commentator Marc Kestecher joined OverDrive to discuss the headlines around the NBA All-Star Game, the festivities of events in the Slam Dunk Contest and Three Point Contest, the USA and World concept in the game, Brandon Ingram's addition with the Raptors and more.
