0:00 ... Ross hello, welcome, and introduces the panel 0:32 ... Show #260 is dedicated to Hall of Famer Michael Cooper who was drafted with the #60 overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft. 1:24 ... LeBron James is now a member of the 76ers and World B feels the upcoming season will feature a wide open and competitive eastern conference.   There are 11 legit playoff contenders for just 8 spots. 3:44 ... Bruce feels like LeBron made the move to Philly in a desperate attempt to win 2 more rings and tie Michael Jordan with 6 championships and convince people that HE, not MJ is the GOAT.   Bruce feels that Sixers games will be "Must Watch" TV. 5:24 ... Depth and health could be issues for Philly.  Ross also feels that many more coaches will be on the hot seat with so many solid teams competing for just 8 playoff spots. 6:22 ... Bruce feels that the Jalen Duren contract impasse in Detroit could have a lingering effect that might affect the morale of the team if Duren's teammates feel he is being mistreated by Pistons management. 7:22 ... What's the deal with the Orlando Magic?  Is their window closed as far as being elite in the east?  They still have talent, but their offense is still sub-standard.  Bruce feels that the team will be in the mix for the Play In tournament but he does not have a great feeling about this team. 12:31 ... Jalen Brown is no longer a Celtic, so who is going to step up?  From a leadership standpoint, it has to be Jayson Tatum, but others like Derrick White, Hugo Gonzalez, and Baylor Scheierman need to all have solid seasons for Boston to challenge for the top 6 in the east. 14:43 ... World B agrees with Bruce that Derrick White needs to step up. 15:57 ... Ross asks Bruce if Tatum is capable of being a "fiery" leader and Bruce doesn't really know if Jayson is capable of adjusting his personality and mindset from his "too cool" exterior to someone who shows more emotion. 17:45 ... Atlanta has added Lu Dort and Ross wonders if Dort can bring the type of toughness to the Hawks that a guy like Dillon Brooks brought to the Suns?   World B loves Dort's perimeter defense and his presence gives the Hawks much better depth.  World B also feels Jalen Johnson has to continue his progress for the Hawks to excel.  Bruce thinks Dort is exactly the type of gritty veteran Atlanta needs and their fans will love.  Ross loves the move and thinks Dort's physicality will really improve the Hawks' defense. 22:17 ... The Portland Trailblazers have a new owner (Tom Dundon) and he has made some really unsettling moves since taking over the franchise.  There are rumors that the Blazers, who are battling with local Portland politicians over arena funding and other financial issues could end up leaving the city.   That would be devastating to the city of Portland and would give the city a real black eye. 24:14 ... Ross is very angry about the way that Dundon has treated their broadcasters like Kevin Calabro and Tom Haberstroh because he watched a lot of Blazers games and really enjoyed their telecasts. 25:32 ... World B feels Dundon has been an embarassment and cites the bad contract he gave new head coach Micah Nori as a really poor way to treat their new coach. 27:37 ... Bruce feels for the Portland fans, who are among the best in the NBA and since the Blazers are Portland's only major league team, their fans would be devastated if the team flatlines and eventually leaves town. 29:05 ... If you were a fan, would you rather be a Warriors or Clippers fan?  Bruce would rather be a 'Dubs fan but Ross and World B would rather be Clippers fans.  Everyone explains why they feel the way they do.  LA owner Steve Ballmer is the main reason that Ross and World B prefer the Clippers. 33:09 ... Will DeAaron Fox be on the Spurs the entire season?  Bruce feels he will because of his contract, which calls for him to be paid more than $222 million over the next 4 seasons.  It's such a bad contract that it's hard to see any team taking it on. 37:04 ... It's time for the always enjoyable "Card Challenge" segment where Ross picks random cards and asks Bruce and World B to react to the players spontaneously to prove their knowledge.  Jalen Duren of the Pistons is first for World B. 38:19 ... Next up is Klay Thompson of the Mavericks for Bruce 39:25 ... Kyrie Irving of Dallas is next for World B. 40:20 ... Tyler Herro for Bruce 40:57 ... Carmelo Anthony for World B. 42:29 ... Bruce Bowen for Bruce .... they'll be together on Wednesday at the Basketball Hall of Fame for a "HoopHall hangout" session with the fans. 44:17 ... Ross wraps the show and says goodbye TRT 44:30                 Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. RUNDOWN   Mitch and Hotshot Scott open Episode 392 by marveling at the daredevils who parachuted off the Space Needle before celebrating the return of Seahawks training camp as a welcome distraction from another nerve-racking week of Mariners baseball. They react to Dom Canzone's season-saving heroics, Jerry Dipoto's puzzling coaching shakeup, and Seattle's looming trade deadline decisions before previewing the Seahawks' title defense and the inevitable Torrey Horton training camp hype. After Dominic Canzone's dramatic home run rescues the Mariners from a potentially devastating sweep, Mitch, Jason Churchill, and Brady Farkas debate whether the victory can truly change the trajectory of Seattle's season or merely delay the inevitable. Churchill also weighs Seattle's pitching surplus, discusses the futures of George Kirby and Logan Gilbert, evaluates top prospects Michael Arroyo and Lazaro Montes, and closes with an honest assessment of Cal Raleigh's prolonged slump. With Seahawks training camp underway, Mitch and Jacson Bevens examine how Seattle's Super Bowl-winning roster has changed and whether the team is equipped for another title run. They discuss the thinner roster, the uncertainty at running back, Sam Darnold's long-term future, and what Klint Kubiak's offense might look like with new weapons. Mitch samples three of the show's patron-exclusive regulars as Danny O'Neil weighs Tom Dundon's arena strategy and the Seahawks' upcoming Hard Knocks season. Jason Puckett breaks down the Mariners' trade deadline outlook, including Mason Miller, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Seattle's payroll future, before Slickhawk closes with stories about Trader Joe's, a 26-pound brisket, Dino's Pub, and Ryan Grubb's coaching future.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose podcast Jason Churchill | Baseball Things Jacson Bevens | Cigar Thoughts Danny O'Neil | Host, The Dang Apostrophe Jason Puckett | KJ-Aren't / Puck Drop Slickhawk | Shooting the Shit with Slick   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mitch and Scott Welcome Football Back While the Mariners Hang On. 18:25 | Mariners No-Table: Jason and Brady Debate Canzone's Lifeline and Seattle's Deadline Dilemma. 49:55 | Seahawks No-Table: Jacson Bevens Sizes Up a Champion's Repeat Chances. 1:10:33 | Danny, Jason, and Slick: Patron Poo-Poo Platter Serves Up Blazers Drama, Hard Knocks, and Mariners Trade Talk. 1:32:33 | Other Stuff: Shaq names the only three players to dunk on him, Derrick Coleman's legendary defiance of Chuck Daly's dress code, Jackson Koivun's meteoric rise from college golf to PGA Tour winner, Phil Mickelson's marriage rumors, Kevin Calabro exits Portland after Tom Dundon's cost-cutting, ESPN layoffs, Pat McAfee's reported $60 million extension, LeBron James joins Philadelphia, Tony Romo DUI arrest, Everson Griffen arrested over interlock violation, Le'Veon Bell jailed over unpaid child support, Kenmore Air seaplane crash, Kyle Shanahan injured in car accident. Bill Walton would often state that he was the luckiest man in the world. Every time he would say that with his infectious energy I'd smile, and I bet you would too. He looked at life through an incredible lens and one that was optimistic and oftentimes inspiring.Heading into my 16th year of putting a headset on as a broadcaster, I too feel like Bill often did. Over the course of time, I've stood next to Steve Physioc, Kevin Calabro and for the better part of the last decade, Ted Robinson. How lucky have I been to have been given a PhD by those three in the school of broadcasting!? Let alone having Lewis Johnson, Samantha Ponder, Jill Savage, Cindy Brunson, Ashley Adamson and more on the sideline. It's been an absolute joy and it's an understatement to share how each of those gifted professionals have impacted millions of sports fans, and myself. This week brings a new season with a new crew, a new logo, and a new network. I'll be in a familiar setting - overlooking Autzen Stadium in prime time on Saturday night and next to me will be a guy I've known for the last 12 years, Guy Haberman. What's so special about Guy is that he truly loves sports broadcasting, having recorded himself calling games as a child. On Saturday night, he will also be living a dream, perched a few hundred feet above a majestic field amid a standing-room-only crowd. Additionally, Guy is a selfless friend, loving husband and extremely talented broadcaster. While the viewer usually only see's the TV crew on air, what makes a unit special is the time off the airwaves. Guy and I have called a few games together in our careers and we've made Week 1 games our speciality in places like Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City and others. But the best part has always been the week leading up to it – the countless calls, the meals while driving to and from the stadium and even the final stop at a FedEx to print out our materials. It's a dream, all of it. And this fall I'm so thankful to have Guy as the next guy I get to learn from and celebrate the game with.In advance of our first game together on the Big Ten Network I had to have him on the Y-Option podcast, presented by our founding partner 76, to learn about his origin story and how he explores the craft of play-by-play.Hope you enjoy our conversation as Guy, Rhett Lewis and myself are so looking forward to bringing you college football this fall.Enjoy Week 1 and what should be another magical ride alongside the sport we all love. For more insights around college football through the lens of the West Coast, go to y-option.comThis episode was executive produced by Jim Thornby and edited by Victor Ren.This podcast is a Best Coast Media production. If you follow professional basketball, chances are you've heard a booming broadcast by the incredible Kevin Calabro. And if you've been so lucky, then you know what a thrill ride it is listening to his exhilarating play-by-play. By his own admission, Kevin wants listeners to know that he's having fun on the mic, because that's what sport is all about! As a kid he remembers gaining an appreciation for radio, listening to famous baseball announcers with big personalities like Jack Buck and Harry Caray, and began exploring his own vocal chops as early as high school. Continuing through college and beyond, Kevin's reliability as a play-by-play announcer strengthened enormously. After a year of calling minor league hockey and a bit of Purdue University basketball, he was eventually given the opportunity to move up to the big leagues. His first time announcing for NBA games would be in 1983 for the Kansas City Kings, but it's not until 1987 that Kevin would join a team that is very near and dear to my heart, the Seattle SuperSonics. With 20 years of his voice guiding us play by play through victory and heartbreak, Kevin has become my absolute favorite way to listen to basketball. We'll discuss the eventual end of his time with the Sonics, (which I myself, having been part owner of the SuperSonics at the time, regrettably shared some part in) but since then Kevin's had nothing short of an incredible career. Having called NBA games for several national broadcasting networks like ESPN Radio, TNT, TBS and NBA TV, as well as announcing for the Seattle Sounders soccer team and now the Portland Trail Blazers, he's even lent his voice to several NBA video games! I am super lucky to have had the opportunity to know Kevin for many years, and I'm sure you're going to love diving deeper into his story. Thanks for tuning in to episode 42. We hope you enjoy it!
