This is Superlative: A Podcast about watches, the people behind them, and the worlds that inspire them. This week our host and aBlogtoWatch Founder Ariel Adams is joined by Steven Rostovsky, the Founder of Rostovsky Watches. To start the show the two connect on both being residents of Los Angeles while having to travel the world in the watch community. Ariel has Steven talk about his start into watch trading initially, and they dive into the increase of modern retail pricing compared to years before. The two go back and forth on the impact that the cost of production has on brands setting retail prices today and how the watch industry seems to always compare itself to the car industry. The two discuss why they both believe it's not always a good comparison, and they talk about different practices that may work in one industry but not the other. Ariel and Steven bring up the idea that consumers enjoy trading for things they actually want, rather than renting or selling for something that they are unsure about. Steven talks about the importance that “word of mouth” marketing has had on his business, as well as his unique buyback clause that he implemented for the first 10 - 15 years of his career that gave his customers a great sense of trust when working with him. Ariel brings up the “Rostovsky List”, which was a list that Steven would put together of the watches that they had, and why he decided to hold out on having a website for so long in favor of this exclusive list. Ariel asks Steven about when he was asked to invest in De Bethune, and his relationship with brands like Greubel Forsey. As the show comes to an end Ariel asks Steven about their website, being an authorized retailer, and his plan for the next few years. Interview d'Antonio Calce, directeur général de la marque Greubel Forsey.
For this episode of aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick and David are in Switzerland, recording live from the ground while covering Geneva Watch Days 2022. To kick off the show, they first take a moment to catch up with Ariel and chat with him about his thoughts on why he feels that the western world needs to create new watch-buying rituals and ultimately find new occasions to purchase timepieces for each other, before then briefly discussing why esports might be a good way to reach the next generation of buyers. From there, it's all about new watch releases, and the trio discusses the brand-new Oris Divers Sixty-Five with the Caliber 400 movement and why it could easily be the only watch a person would ever need. Ariel also takes the opportunity to announce an upcoming event that aBlogtoWatch will be hosting at a local brewery in Los Angeles with Oris on September 6th, 2022, where the Oris Airstream trailer and its showcase of the company's history and innovation will be presented there (RSVP by emailing rsvp@ablogtowatch.com). The conversation then shifts to the opposite end of the price spectrum and the three hosts talk about ultra-expensive luxury sports watches, and whether or not brands like Greubel Forsey, MB&F, and H. Moser & Cie. are starting to challenge Richard Mille when it comes to creating the go-to sports watch for the mega-wealthy. After Ariel reveals his personal choice within the mega-expensive sports watch genre, he says goodbye to Rick and David who then head off to a few appointments to catch up with some of the various brands presenting live at Geneva Watch Days. First is a quick chat with the folks at MB&F, who offer some insight into the new Split Escapement EVO watches and reveal a hint about which one of the LAB editions is coming next, along with dropping a few hints about the model including that it won't be a Split Escapement watch. From there, the duo heads over to speak with Ulysse Nardin about its new gem-set rainbow novelties. Rick and David are both big fans of Ulysse Nardin and rainbow watches, and after having a thoroughly good time checking out the manufacturer's latest statement-piece releases, the pair head over to Maurice LaCroix to talk about its new Pontos watches, the importance of the Aikon collection, and why its retail partners are still the best way of telling the company's story and allowing it to connect with its customers. Although Tudor isn't specifically participating in Geneva Watch Days 2022, the brand still took the opportunity to launch a new watch, so Rick then sits down to talk with Ripley from aBlogtoWatch and Simon from Escapement24 to discuss the surprise release of the Tudor Pelagos 39. While Rick may still not believe that anything under 44mm is even a proper timepiece, the trio all agree that this new 39mm Pelagos is (almost) the model everyone has been asking them to make and that it's clear that Tudor is listening to its customers. Each week, the editors of the timepiece enthusiast publication aBlogtoWatch.com come together to discuss some of the latest new releases and hottest industry stories for the aBlogtoWatch Weekly news podcast program. Listeners can learn more by clicking on any link below to view the articles discussed by the aBlogtoWatch crew in the program. This episode features Ariel, Rick, David, Ripley, and Simon plus interviews with MB&F, Ulyssee Nardin, and Maurice LaCroix.Show Notes: 4:12 — Ariel's Thoughts: The West Needs Some New Watch-Buying Rituals | aBlogtoWatch20:59 — Oris Unveils Regular-Production Divers Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 Watch | aBlogtoWatchaBlogtoWatch And Oris Team Up For A Summer Celebration At Arts District Brewing Company | aBlogtoWatch 24:47 — Greubel Forsey Unveils Limited-Edition GMT Balancier Convexe Watch | aBlogtoWatchMB&F Unveils Legacy Machine Split Escapement EVO Watches | aBlogtoWatch35:20 — MB&F Interview 38:22 — Ulysse Nardin Interview44:30 — Maurice LaCroix Interview51:00 — Tudor Unveils The Pelagos 39 Watch | aBlogtoWatch aBlogtoWatch launched the first-ever podcast about watches back in 2010, and continues to be the most referenced and respected publication for watch enthusiasts, buyers, and collectors in the world. Hello and welcome to the latest episode of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are Victor and Nicholas. Stay a while, and listen. We open this week with some Apple Watch news. According to a recent report in the WSJ, it may soon gain a whole bunch of health-related capabilities including the ability to measure blood pressure. While we may not necessarily need these capabilities today, they do go some way toward fulfilling Tim Cook's 2019 suggestion that Apple's biggest contribution to mankind will be related to health. We then take a quick right into strap discussion, including rumors suggesting the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 will not work with Series 6 (and older) straps and how new straps can help rekindle your interest in old watches. YouTuber Teddy Baldassarre, who we like a lot actually, recently made this suggestion and we wholeheartedly agree! Next up, some of the watches that were announced at the recent Geneva Watch Days trade show... Nicholas doesn't get 'em. They're *very* fancy and impressive in their own right, but are they really the same thing as like an SKX or Seamaster or Oris? IDK! We're talking pieces like this Urwerk, this Girard-Perregaux, and this Greubel Forsey. We close out the week with our two cents on brand management, or lack thereof, focusing on Citizen, Seiko, and Bulova. That about does it. Thank you again to Andrew Haworth for producing. Please keep it locked to WristWatchReview.com and @wristwatchreview on Instagram for more fun watch content, and let us know how you pronounce "Prospex" by emailing us at tips@wristwatchreview.com. Have a great week! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-hourtime-show/support
In this episode we are talking about the new 41.5 mm ORIS Aquis Date with the famous in-house automatic Calibre 400. We also briefly talk about Greubel Forsey, Zenith and Louis Erard.
This feature concerns a favorite topic of watch collector discussion boards: controversy. And when controversy arises, the watch brands Rolex, Hublot, and love-it-or-leave-it apex independent Greubel Forsey are never far. Here, I present an overview of all three watchmakers, why they inspire strong emotions, and why the positive case for all three outweighs the skepticism.
We are joined by Cole from Hodinkee Cole gives us his thoughts on the best travel clocks on the show and we talk about his recent road trips and articles including a mechanical clock on an F-16 fighter. We then play #hitmissmaybe This week we have Monta, Greubel Forsey, Accutron and Ferdinand Berthoud And we then get the low down on eBay authenticating your US bought watch. Enjoy the show #hodinkee #rolex #nodus #seiko

Special Guest: Willard Wigan is a sculptor from Birmingham, England, who makes microscopic art. Willard’s micro-sculptures are so minute that they are only visible through a microscope. Each piece commonly sits within the eye of a needle, or on a pin head. Willard’s artwork has been described by many as “the eighth wonder of the world”. Such accolade resulted in him being honoured by HM. Queen Elizabeth II with an MBE for his services to art, which was presented by HRH. Prince Charles in July 2007. Owners of Willard’s work now include: HRH. Prince Charles, Sir Elton John, Sir Philip Green, Lord Bath, Mike Tyson and Simon Cowell to name but a few. Willard’s latest piece, the Coronation Crown was requested by HRH Queen Elizabeth II in tribute to her celebration to her Diamond Jubilee. http://www.willard-wigan.com Special Guest: Horologist Stephen Forsey partner in the Greubel Forsey watch making company. In 1999 Greubel and Forsey began working on a new generation of tourbillon specifically designed to improve the timekeeping of the mechanical watch. Four years later they unveiled "Greubel Forsey" and stunned horological aficionados with their innovative Double Tourbillon 30°, a timepiece clearly demonstrating their twin goals of innovation and excellence. http://www.greubelforsey.com Art Piece 1 is collaboration between Robert Greubel, Stephen Forsey and Willard Wigan, and features one of Wigan’s micro-sculptures, observable through special optics.
