Send us a textEpisode 552"Cobra Kai" and "The Karate Kid Part 3" | Actor: William Christopher Ford | (Dennis de Guzman)William Christopher Ford aka Christopher Paul Ford played strong but silent Cobra Kai bad boy, "Dennis", in "The Karate Kid Part III". He was made aware of an open casting call for "KKIII" for the part of "Mike Barnes" from a good friend and stood in line with hundreds of other young hopefuls. Director, John Avildsen came out with a camera man and started going down the line to take a look at all the talent and stopped to talk to a fortunate few including Ford who gave the director his headshot. About a week later, he got a call from Casting Director, Caro Jones, who called him into read for the part of "Barnes". About a month later he got a call from Jones telling him that the part of "Mike Barnes" had been cast but they wanted him to come down to the set because they needed an actor/stunt person/martial artist to play one of the supporting "bad boys". So Ford met with Stunt Coordinator Pat Johnson and Director John Avildsen the next day and was cast as "Dennis". At this writing, Ford is a 5th degree black belt in Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate and studied directly with Sensei Richard Rabago and with Master Tadashi Yamashita. He has also studied Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Kick-boxing. He began studying Martial Arts in 1974 at the age of seven. Ford left the Entertainment Industry for many years to help raise his two kids but returned in 2006, and at this time he also changed his professional name to William Christopher Ford to honor his father who passed away in 2005. He has also worked as Chris Ford, William Ford and "WC" Ford.William was inducted into the Masters' Hall of Fame on Aug. 11th, 2012 and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the martial arts. He dedicated the acceptance of this award to his late martial arts mentor, Sensei Richard Rabago, who had suggested Ford for the award before his passing in May, 2012.Welcome, William Christopher Fordwww.mmcpodcast.com#cobrakai #thekaratekid #karatekid #terrysilver #johnkreese #daniellarusso #cobrakaiedits #cobrakaiseason6 #karatekid3 #karatekidmovie #karatekidlegends #blackbelt Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mondaymorningcritic/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mondaymorningcritic/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mondaymorningcriticMondaymorningcritic@gmail.com

Known for his unparalleled contributions to martial arts and his deep philosophical insights, Rickson Gracie shares his wisdom on life, purpose, and spirituality. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. Rickson Gracie on the Nature of Competition in Jiu-Jitsu Rickson Gracie begins by highlighting a unique aspect of jiu-jitsu: the ability to compete intensely without causing injury. Unlike striking arts such as boxing, jiu-jitsu incorporates the concept of "tapping out," allowing practitioners to engage fully while maintaining safety. This dynamic foster a learning environment where losing is seen as an integral part of growth. Gracie also emphasizes the significance of being present, a practice that is central to jiu-jitsu. On the mat, practitioners must focus entirely on the moment, leaving behind external distractions. This mindfulness not only enhances performance but also translates to everyday life, fostering a sense of calm and clarity. Rickson Gracie on Engagement and Connection in Relationships The conversation then touches on the importance of genuine engagement in relationships. Gracie reflects on how technology has altered social interactions, often leading to superficial connections. He argues that martial arts training can help individuals reconnect with the essence of human interaction, fostering deeper connections through shared experiences and presence. Rickson Gracie on Finding and Fulfilling Your Purpose & Building Inner Strength Rickson Gracie discusses the concepts of purpose and service, highlighting that happiness is a dynamic process requiring effort and intention. He encourages listeners to identify their commitments and responsibilities, whether to family, work, or personal growth. Taking care of oneself is essential to being able to serve others effectively. On that note, Gracie opens up about his personal challenges, including his battle with Parkinson's disease. He approaches this new opponent with a strategic mindset, focusing on resilience and adaptability. He emphasizes the importance of understanding oneself and developing a strong sense of inner peace to navigate life's difficulties. Henry Akins began training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in 1995 at the Rickson Gracie Acadamy on Pico blvd in West LA. Shortly after he started he became the secretary at the academy and was spending 70 hours a week there watching and participating in all of the classes. In Feb of 2004, because of his persistence and dedication to the fundamentals and philosophies of Jiu-Jitsu, Rickson Gracie presented Henry with a blackbelt, being only the third American at the time to receive that honor. — Intergenerational family trauma (aka intergenerational trauma) refers to a broad spectrum of symptoms, dynamics, and genetics resulting from the traumatic experiences of an individual or family, which are later passed down to the next generation of the family. The research on intergenerational trauma has predominantly focused on specific ethnic or cultural groups, like Jewish descendants of Holocaust survivors and African-American descendants of American chattel slaves. Researchers found that many descendants show unique characteristics that resembled the PTSD of the trauma survivors (their ancestors) themselves (Van Steenwyk et al. 2018). While this field of study is relatively new and rather sparse, the findings have been consistent and undeniable: intergenerational trauma is a real thing. If you have experienced significant family stress and trauma, if your parents, grandparents, or even great-grandparents experienced traumas at various points, Dr. Ernest's work should be helpful for you as valuable guidance toward a thriving life! Valeria interviews Dr. Ernest Ellender — He is the author of “This Is How We Heal from Painful Childhoods: A Practical Guide for Healing Past Intergenerational Stress and Trauma.” Ernest Ellender worked in the fields of psychology, life coaching, and martial arts for over 25 years, culminating in his book entitled “This Is How We Heal From Painful Childhoods: A Practical Guide for Healing Past Intergenerational Stress and Trauma”. After earning his doctorate in clinical psychology (2007), Ernest focused heavily on application of research and theory to provide therapy and life coaching to community-based clients. He also taught at Nicholls State University before retiring from clinical psychology in 2022. He is a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and runs his martial arts school in his hometown of Houma, Louisiana while additionally offering Life Coaching services to ambitious clients. His advanced martial arts training lent unique insights into the process of developing precise, complex skills. Ernest combined the best of both psychology and martial arts training into an empowering curriculum for healing from childhood and family struggles. The rich Cajun heritage of south Louisiana where Ernest grew up includes amazing, close-knit communities that celebrate family life and a close connection to the land (hunting, fishing, farming, food), as well as a long history of cultural traumas that persist today. This offered fertile grounds for refining his curriculum before offering it to the world in his new book. Known affectionately in his hometown as “Waffle”, Ernest keeps busy spending time with family and friends and significant other, working out at his brother's CrossFit gym, learning new skills (freediving, dancing), or planning his next vacation to experience new cultures and adventures. Are you a small executive search firm striving to stand out among large competitors in the industry? Fear not, for opportunities abound for those who dare to innovate and differentiate. While larger firms may wield extensive resources and brand recognition, small firms possess agility, adaptability, and personalized services that can be leveraged as competitive advantages in the ever-evolving recruitment landscape. I am excited to share this episode with special guest, Bob Kondal, a top-performing headhunter in Private Equity and Private Credit. This episode is packed with behind-the-scenes stories from twenty years of experience in recruitment that you don't want to miss! Bob and I touched upon relevant topics such as winning clients as a small firm, storytelling in business, prepping for client meetings, MPC marketing, diversity, and how we achieves a 100% offer to job accepted ratio - that's right, zero turn-downs. Episode Outline And Highlights [02:36] Rocky start – Bob's first recruiting job at Huxley Associates; how he progressed from being on the verge of quitting to becoming the top biller [08:42] Bob's journey from recruiting to equity trading to starting his own search firm [10:50] Challenges and successes: Bob's milestones as a solo search firm owner [14:27] How to shift client's misconception that working with the bigger search firms will yield better results [19:30] How to use superior performance metrics as a selling point [23:07] Storytelling in business: How to pitch against larger firms and win [30:01] Prepping for a client meeting [33:18] Memorizing teams: Bob shares why and how he memorized teams [40:06] Execution: Bob's process that allows him to achieve zero job turn-downs [44:55] Opportunistic introduction: How often Bob uses MPC marketing to spark conversation with potential clients [50:29] The trend toward Diversity in private equity and private capital recruitment [51:32] Discussion on “Thinking Fast and Slow” [1:00:09] Investing in your copywriting skills and Bob's book recommendation [1:01:34] Why Bob practices Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and how it applies to the world of recruitment 4 Ways to Stand Out From the Competition and Win New Business as a Small Firm Bob goes to great lengths to stand out from the competition. He believes that so many recruiters are looking for a quick fee, with little regard for the long-term results, and do not spend enough time understanding candidates or the employer they are representing. He describes 4 different strategies he uses to stand out and stay at the top of our game. The power of storytelling: Bob attributes their high interview acceptance rates and minimal drop-offs to the clarity of their approach. Instead of simply sending job listings, he advocates engaging candidates through a 30-45 minute discussion about their career. Getting market research and execution right: You only need two things in search: research and execution to help you as an organization achieve zero turn-downs and maintain a competitive edge. This enhances attention to detail, which not only wins business but also cultivates stronger client relationships and satisfaction. Prepping for client meetings: One of Bob's key insights around client meetings is how extensively he prepares. In addition, he runs the meeting quite differently to other recruiters, for example asking about their investment philosophy. Memorizing teams: Bob explains that the client, as a search headhunter, wants to know if you, as a recruiter, know their market inside out. During Covid, Bob set himself a challenge to memorize whole teams, including where they went to university, what they studied and what grade they achieved. Like me, you will admire Bob's refreshing, proactive, responsive, and highly professional approaches and how he delivers service to his clients. Sometimes you find yourself in the tropical paradise of Costa Rica, training jiu jitsu and spending time with close friends. These are some of my favorite trips, and I always enjoy sitting down and picking the brains of experts in their fields. As usual, we covered much more than just jiu jitsu, as these conversations often span life in general, and business. We definitely spent some time unpacking and discussing the recent multi-million dollar injury award to a white belt jiu jitsu student, and the potential impact on jiu jitsu academies worldwide. Henry Akins began training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in 1995 at the Rickson Gracie Acadamy on Pico blvd in West LA. Shortly after he started he became the secretary at the acadamy and was spending 70 hours a week there watching and participating in all of the classes. In 1997 the school moved to the Pacific Palisades where Henry trained and assisted main Instructor Luis Heredia and also participated and trained in all of the classes taught by Rickson. In Feb of 2004, because of his persistence and dedication to the fundamentals and philosophies of Jiu-Jitsu, Rickson Gracie presented Henry with a blackbelt, being only the third American at the time to receive that honor. Dan Hart is a Henry Akins blackbelt and owner of Alpha BJJ in Woodstock, IL. In addition to coaching both at his academy and seminars all over the world he is also an accomplished restauranteur and entrepreneur. Robb Wolf is a former research biochemist and is the 2x NYT bestselling author of The Paleo Solution and Wired to Eat. Robb has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world via is top ranked podcast called The Healthy Rebellion, books, seminars, and products. Robb has functioned as a review editor for the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism and as a consultant for the Naval Special Warfare Resiliency Program, and he serves on the board of directors of many innovative start ups with a focus on health and sustainability. Along with being a true pioneer in both the Crossfit and Paleo movements, Robb holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and is a former California state powerlifting champion. Robb has provided seminars in nutrition and strength & conditioning to a number of big time entities including NASA, Naval Special Warfare, the Canadian Light Infantry, and the United States Marine Corps. More recently, Robb wrote a book titled Sacred Cow which also was produced as a documentary which you've probably seen advertised on Netflix. Robb is also the cofounder of the exploding electrolyte brand called LMNT, which I absolutely love. When I originally scheduled my conversation with Robb, he sent me a huge box of LMNT which I thought was such a cool gesture, and after drinking it for a few days Im now absolutely hooked. I have no affiliation with LMNT and get no kickback from them and I'm very hesitant to suggest or recommend supplements, but LMNT is one that I really love and has become a staple in my daily routine. And if you don't know Robb from any of the things I've already mentioned, then maybe you recognize him as a former guest on ultra popular podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience, Ben Greenfield Fitness, Cleared Hot, Mark Bells Power Project, The Doctors Pharmacy, and many many more. If you can't tell, Robb is a guy who does a lot. He's brilliant, articulate, and unapologetically rational, refusing to let politics or other ulterior motives manipulate his conclusions but above it all Robb is an incredible man, husband, and father, and I am so excited to share this conversation with him.Discussion PointsWhat in the world does Robb Wolf do?How Robb became the defender of all things meatThe sustainability argument for meat consumptionWhy Robb is so passionate about defending meat consumptionResponsibility of parents to serve their kids nutritional foodsSimple rules for family nutritionLong term effects of bad nutrition in kidsProviding good nutritional options for kidsHow to shop at the grocery storeIs organic meat worth it??What Robb is the most proud ofWhat Robb struggles with personallyWhat Robb wants his legacy to be with his kidsLinkswww.robbwolf.comwww.drinklmnt.com

[00:40] How Robb Wolf Started On His Health Journey and Writing Three Books Robb's mom had a lot of health problems. He had this sneaky suspicion that better food and exercise could lead to better outcomes. So, Robb was interested in health at an early age. He was a California State powerlifting champion and got into Thai boxing and jujitsu pretty early on. It led to an undergrad in biochemistry, and then he was looking at either medical school or the research track. In college, Robb was experimenting with his diet. He was tinkering with a low-fat, high-carb vegan diet. Robb ended up making himself very sick. On his vegan diet, Robb was on a blood sugar roller coaster all the time, he had all these gut issues, and his depression was in pretty rough shape. Eventually, he changed over to a paleo diet, and it saved his life. [08:30] Spoiler Alert: Not Everyone Knows What They Are Talking About on The Internet If you're new to eating a raw diet or keto, you need to know the basics. Paleo, keto, and carnivore all revolve around protein. Providing nuance can be confusing when starting a new lifestyle. It's valuable to look at a variety of different people when finding advice on the internet. Learn from people who have had success in their lifestyle and are flexible. Remember, when starting a new lifestyle, it should be simple. [14:45] Are You Having A Hard Time With Keto? Robb Wolf Explains Why A lot of the problems that people experience is just inadequate sodium intake. If you keep your electrolytes up, you can often subside cravings. Keto can be a train wreck if you are a high-intensity athlete. On hard training days, you may or may remain in ketosis despite eating 200 grams of carbohydrate per day. [19:40] It's Critical To Keep Your Electrolytes Up To Help With Sugar Cravings You need adequate sodium. Otherwise, you may suffer from lethargy and fatigue. If you are fairly active and live in a hot, humid environment, your base level of sodium intake needs to be higher than what you probably think. If you're eating a minimally processed diet, then a lot of your food doesn't come with salt. You need to add salt to your diet or make sure salt is included in your foods. If you have an electrolyte imbalance, it can feel like you're hungover. [22:35] Drink LMNT: A Tasty Electrolyte Drink Mix With Everything You Need Get your LMNT electrolytes here: DrinkLMNT.com/KetoKamp (free sampler pack with all orders) Robb created an electrolyte drink mix that is formulated to help anyone with their electrolyte needs. They are perfectly suited to folks following a keto, low-carb, or paleo diet. The mixes contain an ideal ratio: 1000 mg sodium 200 mg potassium 60 mg magnesium [27:15] Are You Overdoing It With Electrolytes? Here's What You Need To Know The first and most common thing if people really overdo electrolytes is disaster pants. If you're attached to the bathroom, then you might be overdoing it on electrolytes. The Japanese culture has traditionally consumed ten to fifteen grams of sodium per day as part of their diet. The average intake in the United States is recommended to be below two grams of sodium. Sodium isn't a potentially dangerous element to the diet. Overall, keto reduces blood pressure in most people, and fasting reduces blood pressure in everyone. [30:55] Scientists Masterfully Crafted Chips To Make Them Hyperpalatable There's this new product called the Dorito Roulette. All of the Doritos are hot, but they vary in heat. Some of them are mildly hot, medium, and then one random chip that will burn your face off hot. The scientists understand palate fatigue and novelty at a super high level. How do you get people to eat more food? Well, you need some sort of randomness of exposure. Also, you need an anticipated but unpredictable, intense experience. Smart scientists understand how the brain works, and they're using it against us to make a big profit. [36:30] Robb Wolf Talks About His 7-Day Carb Test Choose a test carb from the list in Wired To Eat. Or find 50g of effective carbs or another carb source. Get Wired To Eat: https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Eat-Cravings-Appetite-Determine/dp/0451498569/benazadi-20 With the carb test, you can determine if carbs are a great option for your lifestyle. Some people have to be really smart and mindful about which carbs they are eating. When people start lifting weight, they become more metabolically flexible. Then, they can go back and retest their carbs. Learn more about the 7-Day Carb Test: https://robbwolf.com/wiredtoeat/7daycarbtest/ [41:55] Should You Try Time-Restricted Eating? What Are The Benefits? Time-restricted eating can be a wonderful tool for inducing calorie control. Some people will respond well to eating anything between 10 am and 5 pm. Eventually, they'll start to get healthier and make better food choices. We all know that somebody who exercises and eats healthy is shockingly healthier than an obese sedentary individual. Robb is not sold that a lean and healthy individual can gain a lot of benefits from fasting. AND MUCH MORE! David Robles is a Program Supervisor at the largest therapeutic residential non-profit in Oregon. For the last nine years he has worked with programs in California and Oregon where he has provided moment to moment support and therapeutic intervention to youth in need. He is also a second degree black belt in American Kenpo, dabbles in Brazilian Jiu-jitzu, is an esteemed member of Fort Liberty, and invests a disproportionate amount of his life in the valued pastimes of meal prep and personal grooming. David is one of Daniel's closest friends. They have traveled distant lands together–and one trip, it would not be hyperbole to say–was a true quest. They have bled together through both the creation of stories and more so through the living of our own. He has stood by Daniel during the most difficult moments of Daniel's life, embodying his values of safety, consistency, and not too much nor too little predictability. David's success in the betterment of himself and others has been a slow burn, amateur trending professional, and while he may not yet be the most interesting man in the world, there's still some black in his beard so there's probably time. Through sustained immersion within the teachings of great minds, and like Ron and Daniel aspire to do through Cutting For Sign, he has become increasingly articulate and emotionally aware, and yet remains shamelessly, and charmingly flawed. He values the light, the dark, the shadows between, that the cat is both be in and not in the box, the pursuit of mental stability amidst the chaos, heightened cognitive and physical performance, philosophy, religious experience, solution based thinking, nuanced and effective trauma therapy, and a continued drive to embody the truth at the core of the shortest poem in the English Language– "Me, we." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cutting-for-sign/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cutting-for-sign/support

The woke mentality steals the ability for people to have gratitude. The thing about that is that you need a certain rate of economic growth to keep that system going. If you don't have a certain rate of economic growth, then the whole system collapses." - Robb Wolf Being Ready For The Unpredictable "There will be a lot of dislocation, a lot of pain, and the people that are going to suffer the most are the people that didn't realize this was an eventuality. They didn't realize there was a possibility of a really rainy day, and maybe a rainy month, or a rainy decade. So they're going to be surprised, and they're going to be bitter, and that's going to make them really ineffective, strap themselves, and lean into the community that they have and help each other. The bright side of that, people will be more networked in the real world. People will care more of each other." - Robb Wolf Downside Risk Mitigation "There are a lot of folks that are afraid of facing some of these darker realities because of the anxiety they produce just thinking about economic stuff and global upheaval. But a little bit of investment in downside risk mitigation really helps you sleep at night. But then the advice I need, and what I've been realizing, I've been too good at that, I've invested too much in that. I've been preparing too much for the end of the world instead of preparing for a better world." - Robb Wolf Links From Today's Show Robb Wolf 103 Wired to Eat - Robb Wolf 357 Robb Wolf | Sacred Cow: The Case for (Better) Meat 403 Robb Wolf | Electrolytes: How Sodium, Potassium & Magnesium Help To Beat Brain Fog Ancestral Health Symposium 071 Food Freedom Forever With Melissa Hartwig Sacred Cow by Diana Rodgers and Robb Wolf Wired to Eat: Turn Off Cravings, Rewire Your Appetite for Weight Loss, and Determine the Foods That Work for You by Robb Wolf The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet by Robb Wolf Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, with any purchase Gavin Newsom - California's Governor 463 JP Sears | This Is How Media HIJACKS Your Mind: Stop Censoring Yourself & Heal The Tyrant Within Naval Special Warfare Wyoming Carbon Capture facility Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E.
