As more and more of our institutions fall prey to the woke agenda, what exactly are conservatives trying to conserve? Today's episode of The Kevin Roberts Show explores the demise of America's cultural institutions, the importance of our philosophical roots, and the beginning of a counter-revolutionary moment."Glenn Ellmers holds a Ph.D. in politics from Claremont Graduate University and has focused much of his work on considering the role of statesmanship; begging the question: “Is ‘conservatism' enough?” A student of the late Harry V. Jaffa, Glenn explores these complex topics and more in the first comprehensive examination of his teacher's vast body of work: The Soul of Politics: Harry V. Jaffa and the Fight for America. Dr. Glenn Elmers, Ph.D. has written a definitive biography, based on a wide swath of primary sources (innumerable letters, publications, other writings) of the late great Dr. Harry Jaffa, Ph.D. It's called "The Soul of Politics: Harry V. Jaffa and the Fight for America." Jaffa was a preeminent scholar of the birth of the Republican Party, what that had to do with the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and before that classical philosophy, Jerusalem, the end of slavery in America, as well its enduring relevance to the modern disputes over the nature and size of the administrative state, e.g., during the Republican Convention at Cow Palace, San Fransisco in 1964. Love him or hate him, it's impossible to be indifferent to the man and the weighty issues he made the subject of his life's work. Dr. Glenn Elmers has done the careful spade work and shares it gladly on this special July 4th episode of The Republican Professor (2022). Please support your local bookstore. The Know Your Enemy podcast recently accused Claremont of misunderstanding the old civil war, and irresponsibly predicting--or perhaps yearning for--a new one. The editors respond with the help of special guest Glenn Ellmers, Claremont Scholar and author of The Soul of Politics, a book on Claremont's intellectual godfather Harry V. Jaffa. Plus: Elon Musk officially bought Twitter and conservatives are noticing that they're being unshackled from shadow suppression. But who is Elon Musk and does the Right want to make him its champion?

Usually, when a person asks what or who makes for a person, it's to dehumanize some person or group of persons. Our intention in this episode is to head in the opposite direction. Dad takes us on a worldwind tour of Western civilization (which, frankly, he often does) to see that what counts as personhood or humanity has been under dispute from the get-go and continues to be disputed up to this very day. Meanwhile, I explore the striking fact that, in the doctrine of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are called "persons"—coincidence or not? (Not.) What does trinitarian personhood imply about human personhood? And could a robust nature-person distinction actually solve all the besetting problems of the modern world?! 1. Locus classicus = classical location or point, namely the verse of Scripture that is the foundation for a doctrine. For imago dei ( = image of God), it’s Genesis 1:26–28; see also Genesis 9:6. 2. The Mesopotamian creation epic is Enuma Elish 3. Plato records Socrates’ attempt to die without the interference of hysterical women in Phaedo 4. The things I’ve written mentioned in this episode are: “Blessed Are the Barren” and Woman, Women, and the Priesthood in the Trinitarian Theology of Elisabeth Behr-Sigel 5. Dad discusses Leibniz vs. Voltaire & Spinoza in Paths Not Taken 6. John Locke, Second Treatise of Government 7. Thomas Jefferson, The Declaration of Independence 8. Thomas Hobbes, Leviathan 9. For more on the Lincoln-Douglas debates, see Harry V. Jaffa, A New Birth Of Freedom: Abraham Lincoln and the Coming of the Civil War 10. In this episode we both said that US law granted that enslaved Africans could be counted as 2/3 of a human in the census, but the actual number was 3/5 of a human (which is even less than what we remembered). Let us state for the record that all persons of African descent are 100% human. 11. Vladimir Lossky, In the Image and Likeness of God 12. Plato discusses the Forms in The Republic 13. Hugh Hewitt interviews Richard Grennell concerning proposed actions that the U.S should take against North Korea. Then, Charles Krauthammer offers his solution to the potential nuclear crisis. Dennis Prager discusses Douglas Murray's book, Strange Death of Europe. Medved presents new alarming government data which reveals how couples being married before children is no longer the norm. Hewitt, in celebration of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, invites Larry P. Arnn to fill in for the late Harry V. Jaffa, who had been a regular 4th of July guest on the show for 15 years.
