The letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3 are possibly some of the best known parts of the apocalypic book, mainly due to their accessibility compared to the rest of it. But how should we read these seven letters? Are they examples of the history or eras of the church? Are they addressed to different types of church today? Are they symbolic? And why all the Old Testament references?Join Alex, Chris & Jo as they discuss these significant chapters, give some good background information that help make sense of what John is writing, and then talk aboput how we might be able to bring some meaning to us today. World War II as an Identity Project (Ibidem, 2022) explores the relationship between history, legitimacy, and violence in the building and breaking of nations and states on the territory of contemporary Ukraine during the Second World War and in its aftermath. At its center are various institutions of the Soviet state. Other states and rival political movements also enter the picture insofar as their acitivities influenced Soviet policies. Methodologically, the study shifts attention from a limited body of normative texts and their creators within the Soviet political and cultural elite to a wider array of practices, organizations, and players engaged in power struggles and production of knowledge about the past in different social domains. Specifically, it brings into focus groups not normally thought of as participants in the production of Soviet memory discourse, notably NKVD officers, Soviet archivists, Ukrainian nationalists, Nazi collaborators, and former partisans in the German-occupied territories. The book not only demonstrates the complexity of nation-shaping processes, but also restores agency to some seemingly powerless actors. Learn more about your ad choices. Historical Turns: Weimar Cinema and the Crisis of Historicism (University of California Press, 2024) by Dr. Nicholas Baer reassesses Weimar cinema in light of the "crisis of historicism" widely diagnosed by German philosophers in the early twentieth century. Through bold new analyses of five legendary works of German silent cinema—The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Destiny, Rhythm 21, The Holy Mountain, and Metropolis—Dr. Baer argues that films of the Weimar Republic lent vivid expression to the crisis of historical thinking. With their experiments in cinematic form and style, these modernist films revealed the capacity of the medium to engage with fundamental questions about the philosophy of history. Reconstructing the debates over historicism that unfolded during the initial decades of moving-image culture, Historical Turns proposes a more reflexive mode of historiography and expands the field of film and media philosophy. The book excavates a rich archive of ideas that illuminate our own moment of rapid media transformation and political, economic, and environmental crises around the globe. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. In this audio, I talk about how the historicist narrative has been hijacked to deflect blame away from the false prophet Jesuit Superior General (the black pope) and to mislead people in the end times. On the www.BibleProphecyDecoded.com website you will find one-page PDF summaries that you can save and print, links to videos, links to request free copies of the prophecy fulfillment books, and links to order printed copies. On the www.BibleProphecyDecoded.com website you will find one-page PDF summaries that you can save and print, links to videos, links to request free copies of the prophecy fulfillment books, and links to order printed copies.
The Reformers, like Calvin, Luther, or even Matthew Henry, John Knox, or the Wesleys – did they teach, and did the kids running around in their times – 16, 17, 1800s believe in the left behindism? And you might say, “Hah, nice try! You can’t pull that one over me! Of course they couldn’t have imagined a one world nation, and the other creepy features of Left Behind,” but then you might think they held their counterpart of a rebuilt Israel, and a dystopian, one-world leader. The reality is the Reformers were vastly different from where we are today. So totally different in their views of Revelation, that it’s not even comparable. And that's just two interpretations out of four major views of Revelation.
In this episode, we talk with Stephanie Collins and Niels de Haan about whether structuralism or historicism best accounts for group responsibility.Stephanie's website: https://stephaniecollins.xyz/Niels's website: https://sites.google.com/view/niels-de-haan/homepageTheir paper, "Group Responsibility and Historicism": https://academic.oup.com/pq/advance-article/doi/10.1093/pq/pqad104/7329479Twitter: https://twitter.com/thefreewillshowInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thefreewillshow/?hl=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Free-Will-Show-105535031200408/
In this special "minisode," JWI Deputy Director Garrett Snedeker and Programs Director Daniel Osborne sit down to talk a bit about the ideas and debates that came to characterize 2023. They discuss Mere Natural Law, Originalism, Historicism, and Courage.
"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." Daniel 9:24 KJV In this episode we're talking about the fact that Christians don't actually agree on how to interpret Revelation. This episode is a brief overview of four schools of thought: Futurism, Preterism, Historicism, and Idealism. As we go through the book of Revelation, I am attempting to show the evidence for the major interpretations- Preterist, Historicist, Futurist, and Idealist. I am doing this because I see some truth in all four schools of thought.--While Full Preterism is heretical because it denies the future Second Coming of Christ and our physical resurrection -2 Timothy 2-16-18-, Partial Preterism interprets much of the book of Revelation as having been fulfilled in the first Christian century in the destruction of Jerusalem, while holding fast to our Lord's future return.--Historicism understands the book as the unfolding of history from the First to the Second Comings of Christ.--Futurism sees most of the book as future for us. And Idealism focuses on the conflict between Christ and Satan throughout the ages. --John's eating the scroll as sweet as honey -Revelation 10-9-10- picks up on Ezekiel 3-1-3, where the sweet scroll leaves Ezekiel bitter and angry -Ezekiel 3-14-, just as does the scroll of Revelation for John.--God has two books- the book of nature, Natural Revelation -Psalm 19-1-4-, and the book of Scripture, Special Revelation -Psalm 19-7-11-.--God's Word is sweet as honey -Psalm 19-10- 119-103-, but when it convicts us of sin, it can be bitter in our souls until we confess and repent -Psalm 19-12-13-.

Welcome to this episode of our podcast, where we explore the concept of historicism and its various interpretations. We look at two contrasting approaches to interpretation, the hermeneutic and relativist approaches, and delve into the ideas of Hegel. We also explore the importance of anthropology in understanding human culture and behavior, and the subjectivity of history. Finally, we discuss the criticism and debate surrounding Karl Marx's social theory and its relation to historicism. source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historicism
Dr. Jeanette welcomes Jerry Huerta author of Thy Kingdom Come: Re-Evaluating the Historicist's Interpretation of the Revelation, to explore story in the context of society events at the time.History, revelations, and going back to ancient times; what are the stories and books about in our Bibles, dogma, and prophecies. How did our truths and beliefs come about? How have the words transitioned in time through society, events in the century, or from the perspective of the reader?Writing, interpretation and seeking more information is the seeker journey to interpret what you wish to take from history to guide you through the life you are currently living. When things happened in the past eons and people wrote the stories it was from the emotions and way in which they could understand or comprehend at that time of life. As we learn more, expand our consciousness, and become more literate in areas of science, nature, religion, and history, we tend to rewrite history in a manner of reflection and then adopt the new writings as the truth while casting out the old writings. However, in 2023, we are finding scholars going back to the old writings to bring them back as the truth today since what we are doing is not working. Can we take the past to be the present or perhaps take the lessons of the past to not repeat in the present? For more information on Jerry visit: www.Historicist.netFor more information on Dr. Jeanette visit: www.DrJeanetteGallagher.com
Recently, Robert Caringola and I crafted a series of six programs discussing Historicism and the '70 weeks of Daniel,' found in Daniel Chapter Nine. I aim to explore Historicism's connection to the Anglo-Israel message. Do they complement each other? My response is a firm yes. The '70 weeks of Daniel', or the 490-year period, pertains to the Judah Nation and Christ's arrival. This includes His baptism, ministry initiation, and crucifixion resurrection. It ended with Stephen's stoning and Apostle Paul's introduction into the gospel story. But where does the House of Israel, representing all 13 scattered tribes, fit in? The 13 tribes were spread throughout the Mediterranean, northwestern Europe, and the British Isles. James acknowledges all 12 tribes in James 1:1, writing to the "12 tribes which are scattered abroad." Apostle Peter also recognizes them in 1 Peter 1:1. They were preselected, as God chose Israel in the Old Testament. Throughout his ministry, Apostle Paul preached to Israelites. It is clear from the books of Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, and Corinthians that he speaks solely to Israelites. In Acts 26:6-7, Paul stands before King Agrippa, declaring his judgment rests on the hope of promises made by God to the Israelite forefathers. He believes in the fulfillment of these promises within the 12 tribes. The belief in the amalgamation theory, suggesting the tribes' absorption into heathen nations, is a significant misinterpretation. This falsehood was contrived by those resisting the Anglo-Israel message, necessitating an excuse for their disbelief. How did the gospel reach Europe and Great Britain? In Acts 13:46, Paul and Barnabas declare the Word of God should be spoken first to the Jews. However, when the Jews rejected the Word, they turned to the Gentiles, as Paul also mentions in Acts 18:5-6. The Gentiles referred to the House of Jacob or the Israelite tribes. Paul was sent to preach to the House of Israel, making him a missionary to the Gentiles. Historical evidence suggests that Paul journeyed to Great Britain, spreading the gospel among the Israelites. This supports the belief that the descendants of Israel encompass the Anglo-Saxon, Germanic, and Scandinavian-related populations. Revelation Chapter 4 depicts God's throne, surrounded by four creatures—a lion, a man, a calf, and an eagle. Each creature represents specific tribes: the lion stands for Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun; the man symbolizes Reuben, Simeon, and Gad; the calf represents Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin; while the eagle denotes Dan, Asher, and Naphtali. Revelation Chapter 7 discusses the sealing of the tribes. An angel with the living God's seal is seen instructing four other angels to withhold harm until God's servants are sealed on their foreheads. The chapter then enumerates the 12 tribes receiving the seal. The Anglo-Israel message and Historicism indeed supplement each other, offering a richer understanding of the scriptures and the role of the Israelite tribes in history and prophecy. Recognizing this association, we can delve deeper into the divine plan and God's promises' fulfillment.
Why do I think we can re-affirm that there is a strong case of "Endtime-itis" today in the Body of Christ? Just recently I found the following titles for podcasts/videos being done by Christians:•“Has the Tribulation Begun?”•“The End has Begun”•“Is the United States Mystery Babylon [in] THE BOOK OF REVELATION?”•“What is the system of the Beast”?•“End of the World”•“God of Magog and the Antichrist”•“The Antichrist Agenda”•“666 and the Last Generation of Humans”In this podcast, I will look at the different End-Time Views. We will discuss the 3 main approaches to the fulfillment of Biblical End Time prophecies - Preterism, Historicism, and Futurism. What they are? How do they interpret the Book of RevelationWho held/holds them? Next, we'll look at the Timing and Nature of Christ's Return and the Millennium - We will look at the 3 main views - Amillennialism, Postmillennialism, and Premillennialism - What do each of them teach? What are their strengths/weaknesses? Who held to/holds these positions? After that, I will break down the 2 main views of Premillennialism - Historic and Dispensational. I will add a third one that has been termed "Apostolic Premillennialism". What doe they teach? Who held/holds them? We look at well as the viewpoints on the Rapture - What exactly is the so-called "Rapture" and when will it occur? Does it happen BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER the Tribulation? This gets us into the doctrine of the Great Tribulation. What have people believed about it throughout Church History? We get into the main passage of Scripture that many of the End Times beliefs come from - Matthew 24. We also get into the passages/verses that talk about the Anti-Christ, the 1000-year Millennium, and the Great Tribulation - that includes Daniel 7:25, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, Revelation 3:10, 7:17 and 20:1-3.A main part of the message was looking at what happened in AD 70. Were many/most of the End Times prophecies fulfilled at that time? Or has AD 70 been ignored? Is it being over-emphasized and viewed as too important?Perhaps the most important part of this message is to see what the Early Christians from the early 2nd Century and onwards believed. What did they believe about AD 70? Did they believe in a 1000-year literal Millennial Reign of Christ on the Earth? Did they believe that the Anti-Christ came in the 1st Century or was he still going to come in the future? Did they believe in a pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church? We KNOW what they believed. Were they right? Who should we be listening to? What is clear is that many Christians today do not know what they believed and base their End Times views on what their pastor/s have taught and/or what their 'traditions' teach.I've personally held to several of the viewpoints covered. I will share my "eclectic" one - wherein I try to take the "best of" the different viewpoints to inform my own today. Regardless of where people end up landing, this historical journey will help you to understand some of the most divisive topics in the Church today. May this help any of us who happen to be battling "Endtime-itis"!#preterism #preterist #historicism #futurism #futurist #antichrist #postmillennialism #postmillennial#premillennialism #premillennial #panmillennialism #panmillennial #rapture #millennium #1000-years #Revelation #tribulation #pretrib #midtrib #posttrib #prewrath #secondcoming #2ndcoming #endtimes #endtimeprophecy #prophecy #matthew24 #olivetdiscourse #70AD #jerusalem #deception #greattribulation

Historicism is a method of interpreting past and current events in relation to biblical prophecy, which confirms the accuracy and credibility of divine scripture and demonstrates that God determines and controls the affairs of men and nations. This approach is rooted in two verses from the book of Isaiah 46:9-10, which state that God's plans will stand and that he has declared the end from the beginning. In this discussion, Robert Caringola and Pastor Jennings delve into the prophetic perspective of Historicism and its details. They stress the importance of the truth of scripture and the power of the Word of God to establish and strengthen us. At present, the study of Bible prophecy is at a crossroads and the speaker has been deeply considering this topic for months. The speaker highlights the book, 70 Weeks, as being a critical source for understanding the prophecy of the 70 weeks. This speaker believes that this topic has the potential to be a game changer. The discussion also covers the possibility of Christ leaving his throne, working through his people, and the rapture into heaven, as well as the teachings of the English Reformation. The speaker warns against ignoring the study of Bible prophecy, as it is a crucial aspect of understanding the truth. In conclusion, the speaker encourages everyone to take this topic seriously and to follow along with a copy of the book, 70 Weeks, as a reference guide.

We examine C. S. Lewis's essay, "Historicism." Jenny and I discovered God's hand in the choice of essays for this year's analysis. I chose these four essays, not consciously aware of their interrelations. In this episode, I emphasize the message they all share, and their individual contributions to the greater message they together expound. When you've listened to this episode of the Christian Atheist, join Jenny and I as we discuss it on our "No Compromise" podcast this Thursday, and join us throughout this season as we continue to explore the ever-deepening Mystery that is our Great God.
