Welcome To The Party Pal: The Mind-Bending Film & Television Podcast You Didn't Know You Needed!
The 20th episode of Welcome To The Party Pal draws you deep into the world of HBO's True Detective, the gritty anthology crime drama television series created by Nic Pizzolatto. On the heels of the finale of Season 3, this episode explores the three timelines present in the season, Pizzolatto's meticulously and deeply-engaging crafted storyline, the exploration of the darkened corners of the mind that defines the season, and the riveting acting found in the season, particularly by Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff, and Carmen, Emoji. In a discussion that delves into the open-ended nature of the story's culmination, ultimately this episodes serves as proof of how fiction can be interpreted differently by multiple people, as the two WTTPP hosts came to vastly diverging conclusions as to how the events surrounding the season finale unfolded. There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.

Aaron Gwyn is the guest. His new novel, Wynne's War, is now available from Eamon Dolan Books. Publishers Weekly, in a starred review, says "Gwyn’s (Dog on the Cross) story is a gripping tale of men at war in the desolate snow-capped mountains of eastern Afghanistan, and captures the essence of close combat—the terror, excitement, chaos, tension, and cruelty, as well as the harsh decisions men make under stress...its gritty realism is part of the strength." And Nic Pizzolatto, creator of HBO's True Detective, says “Wynne's War is a deep and beautifully written story of men, war, and madness, told by a young American master. A page-turner of poetic and savage grace, of our time but transcending it, this novel takes its rightful place among the great American literature of war.” Monologue topics: bad news, miscarriage, feeling bad about feeling bad, bad luck, bad.
