LESSON 134Let Me Perceive Forgiveness As It Is.Let us review the meaning of “forgive,” for it is apt to be distorted and to be perceived as something that entails an unfair sacrifice of righteous wrath, a gift unjustified and undeserved, and a complete denial of the truth. In such a view, forgiveness must be seen as mere eccentric folly, and this course appear to rest salvation on a whim. This twisted view of what forgiveness means is easily corrected, when you can accept the fact that pardon is not asked for what is true. It must be limited to what is false. It is irrelevant to everything except illusions. Truth is God's creation, and to pardon that is meaningless. All truth belongs to Him, reflects His laws and radiates His Love. Does this need pardon? How can you forgive the sinless and eternally benign? The major difficulty that you find in genuine forgiveness on your part is that you still believe you must forgive the truth, and not illusions. You conceive of pardon as a vain attempt to look past what is there; to overlook the truth, in an unfounded effort to deceive yourself by making an illusion true. This twisted viewpoint but reflects the hold that the idea of sin retains as yet upon your mind, as you regard yourself.Because you think your sins are real, you look on pardon as deception. For it is impossible to think of sin as true and not believe forgiveness is a lie. Thus is forgiveness really but a sin, like all the rest. It says the truth is false, and smiles on the corrupt as if they were as blameless as the grass; as white as snow. It is delusional in what it thinks it can accomplish. It would see as right the plainly wrong; the loathsome as the good.Pardon is no escape in such a view. It merely is a further sign that sin is unforgivable, at best to be concealed, denied or called another name, for pardon is a treachery to truth. Guilt cannot be forgiven. If you sin, your guilt is everlasting. Those who are forgiven from the view their sins are real are pitifully mocked and twice condemned; first, by themselves for what they think they did, and once again by those who pardon them.It is sin's unreality that makes forgiveness natural and wholly sane, a deep relief to those who offer it; a quiet blessing where it is received. It does not countenance illusions, but collects them lightly, with a little laugh, and gently lays them at the feet of truth. And there they disappear entirely.Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. It sees their nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear. It looks on lies, but it is not deceived. It does not heed the self-accusing shrieks of sinners mad with guilt. It looks on them with quiet eyes, and merely says to them, “My brother, what you think is not the truth.”The strength of pardon is its honesty, which is so uncorrupted that it sees illusions as illusions, not as truth. It is because of this that it becomes the undeceiver in the face of lies; the great restorer of the simple truth. By its ability to overlook what is not there, it opens up the way to truth, which has been blocked by dreams of guilt. Now are you free to follow in the way your true forgiveness opens up to you. For if one brother has received this gift of you, the door is open to yourself. There is a very simple way to find the door to true forgiveness, and perceive it open wide in welcome. When you feel that you are tempted to accuse someone of sin in any form, do not allow your mind to dwell on what you think he did, for that is self-deception. Ask instead, “Would I accuse myself of doing this?”Thus will you see alternatives for choice in terms that render choosing meaningful, and keep your mind as free of guilt and pain as God Himself intended it to be, and as it is in truth. It is but lies that would condemn. In truth is innocence the only thing there is. Forgiveness stands between illusions and the truth; between the world you see and that which lies beyond; between the hell of guilt and Heaven's gate.Across this bridge, as powerful as Love which laid its blessing on it, are all dreams of evil and of hatred and attack brought silently to truth. They are not kept to swell and bluster, and to terrify the foolish dreamer who believes in them. He has been gently wakened from his dream by understanding what he thought he saw was never there. And now he cannot feel that all escape has been denied to him.He does not have to fight to save himself. He does not have to kill the dragons which he thought pursued him. Nor need he erect the heavy walls of stone and iron doors he thought would make him safe. He can remove the ponderous and useless armor made to chain his mind to fear and misery. His step is light, and as he lifts his foot to stride ahead a star is left behind, to point the way to those who follow him.Forgiveness must be practiced, for the world cannot perceive its meaning, nor provide a guide to teach you its beneficence. There is no thought in all the world that leads to any understanding of the laws it follows, nor the Thought that it reflects. It is as alien to the world as is your own reality. And yet it joins your mind with the reality in you.Today we practice true forgiveness, that the time of joining be no more delayed. For we would meet with our reality in freedom and in peace. Our practicing becomes the footsteps lighting up the way for all our brothers, who will follow us to the reality we share with them. That this may be accomplished, let us give a quarter of an hour twice today, and spend it with the Guide Who understands the meaning of forgiveness, and was sent to us to teach it. Let us ask of Him:Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.Then choose one brother as He will direct, and catalogue his “sins,” as one by one they cross your mind. Be certain not to dwell on any one of them, but realize that you are using his “offenses” but to save the world from all ideas of sin. Briefly consider all the evil things you thought of him, and each time ask yourself, “Would I condemn myself for doing this?”Let him be freed from all the thoughts you had of sin in him. And now you are prepared for freedom. If you have been practicing thus far in willingness and honesty, you will begin to sense a lifting up, a lightening of weight across your chest, a deep and certain feeling of relief. The time remaining should be given to experiencing the escape from all the heavy chains you sought to lay upon your brother, but were laid upon yourself.Forgiveness should be practiced through the day, for there will still be many times when you forget its meaning and attack yourself. When this occurs, allow your mind to see through this illusion as you tell yourself:Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.Would I accuse myself of doing this?I will not lay this chain upon myself. In everything you do remember this:No one is crucified alone, and yet no one can enter Heaven by himself.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

Life has its ups and downs. Sometimes we feel like we are on the top of the mountain, and other times we are in the deepest valley. No matter where we are, we can know for certain that God is God. And He will always be with us! Join Rusanne Carole today and be inspired, no matter where you are in life. ***** Welcome to Celebrating God's Grace, a WWL's podcast. I am your host, Rusanne Carole, born in Louisiana- living in Australia. Thank you for joining us today as we look at how we, as sisters in Christ, we can live and experience the good times and the challenging times - overcome adversity & challenges we face in this world. God is our God of the times we are on top of the mountain as well as when we find ourselves in the deepest of valleys. But as followers of Christ we are called & equipped to battle on, & we're not alone… we put on the full armour of God, becoming Spirit-led, Spirit-filled Warriors, we are Women of God, we are Women World Leaders. ***God is God and He is with us whether we are on top of a mountain in life – celebrating the wonderful things this life has to offer… *** The Bible shares many glorious experiences that happened on mountains… Moses received the 10 commandments, God, on the mountain, wrote these commandments on tablets of stone with His finger! Jesus appeared in his heavenly form during the Transformation atop a mountain. The happenings on top of a mountain represent the magnificent. The highs. The celebrations. Maybe that's where we get the saying, “ I feel like I'm on top of the world” As a young girl, I took a trip with my high school and we climbed a mountain in Colorado. As we finally reached the top it was absolutely gorgeous and you did feel like you were on top of the world. Elated.. Like nothing could touch you. Yet as we grow up… experience life we realise those moments don't last forever… Changes comes. Challenges come. Circumstances we'd rather not experience present themselves Much suffering happens in the valleys as God's ppl struggle with life's disappointments, trials, temptation. Our faith is tested.. The dichotomy of LIFE – such beauty and happy times yet such devastation can occur too! Even the biblical Promise Land that God led His ppl to included both hills and valleys alike… Deut 11:11… “But the land you are crossing the Jordan River to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from the heaven. In Matthew 5 Jesus tells us God causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. But how do we drink rain from heaven in the lowest of our times in the valleys we find ourselves in? What God asks the Israelites for during their 40 year journey that could have been travelled in 11 days was TRUST.. It's what He asked of them and it's what He asks of us now. We don't know what tomorrow holds but as believers and followers of Christ, we know who holds tomorrow. Our hope is in the Lord. – not in this life but the life that awaits. So practically – how can we drink that heavenly rain as we walk thru the valleys. Here are some things to ponder: Our feelings during this time can take over… We mustn't ignore or suppress the feelings but we cannot allow ourselves to stay there.. I had a friend tell me, it's ok to have a bad day just try not to have 2 in a row. I believe it's important to pay attention to the pain, acknowledge it, allow it… then the tough part comes in the waiting in the confusing “in-between time when finally the birth of something new comes… For God is good… Nahum 1:7 says The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. He has us and He never leaves us. We can quench our spiritual thirst by getting in His Word. Yet I know there have been times in the deepest of valleys it was hard to read or concentrate. This is where it's important to have a few life verses planted – embedded deep in your heart that you can meditate and ponder on throughout the tough days. And worship music can be most beneficial at this time too. And of course PRAYER. I recently read: Her secret is simple. On her worst days she prays, and on her best days she prays. God even knew there would be seasons in which we wouldn't even have the words. Romans 8:26-27 tells us the Spirit makes intercession for us for HE knows. What a merciful, beautiful God we serve. So as believers, we will be discouraged , but not despaired for our God is with us always – A beautiful worship song by Tauren Hills (hills & valleys) Says: ... I love visualisations and we know how powerful they can be: I like to picture myself dancing with Jesus on top of the mountain (Him singing over me) when I am being blessed to experience the goodness of God. ISIAH 52:7 declares “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaimed peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, Your God reigns! IS 55:12 describes worshipping God during a hill time of celebration “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace, the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands” In valleys, we can choose to see our obstacles as opportunities to grow stronger in our faith. Peter 4 verse 12 and 13 tells us, ‘Dear friends don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through as if something strange is happening to you. Instead be very glad - for these trials make your partners with Christ in his suffering so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. Our valley times are temporary. This is the time I'm not dancing on a mountaintop but I am resting in His arms – with my head on his chest so close I can feel his breath on my face and hear his heartbeat beating in sink with mine, like a lullaby allowing be to be still and sit with HIM Let us pray Lord, I hope that every ear that has tuned into this teaching will experience more and more of Your love for us whether we are currently celebrating on a mountaintop or struggling through getting through a valley. In this world, the only constant is change. But Your word tells us You do not change. You are our constant. You are our Rock. Help us to lean into you each day, each moment no matter what our circumstances are. You give us the peace beyond all understanding. And until we reach that final mountaintop where eternity is our home, help us in Your strength to persevere in the race that is set out for each of us. Thank you for listening to WWL's podcast. Let me perceive forgiveness as it is. Let us review the meaning of "forgive," for it is apt to be distorted and to be perceived as something that entails an unfair sacrifice of righteous wrath, a gift unjustified and undeserved, and a complete denial of the truth. This twisted viewpoint but reflects the hold that the idea of sin retains as yet upon your mind, as you regard yourself. Because you think your sins are real, you look on pardon as deception. It would see as right the plainly wrong; the loathsome as the good. Pardon is no escape in such a view. It merely is a further sign that sin is unforgivable, at best to be concealed, denied or called another name, for pardon is a treachery to truth. Guilt cannot be forgiven. If you sin, your guilt is everlasting. Those who are forgiven from the view their sins are real are pitifully mocked and twice condemned; first, by themselves for what they think they did, and once again by those who pardon them. It is sin's unreality that makes forgiveness natural and wholly sane, a deep relief to those who offer it; a quiet blessing where it is received. It does not countenance illusions, but collects them lightly, with a little laugh, and gently lays them at the feet of truth. And there they disappear entirely. Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. It sees their nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear. It looks on lies, but it is not deceived. It does not heed the self-accusing shrieks of sinners mad with guilt. It looks on them with quiet eyes, and merely says to them, "My brother, what you think is not the truth." The strength of pardon is its honesty, which is so uncorrupted that it sees illusions as illusions, not as truth. Ask instead, "Would I accuse myself of doing this?" Thus will you see alternatives for choice in terms that render choosing meaningful, and keep your mind as free of guilt and pain as God Himself intended it to be, and as it is in truth. It is but lies that would condemn. In truth is innocence the only thing there is. Forgiveness stands between illusions and the truth; between the world you see and that which lies beyond; between the hell of guilt and Heaven's gate. Across this bridge, as powerful as Love which laid its blessing on it, are all dreams of evil and of hatred and attack brought silently to truth. They are not kept to swell and bluster, and to terrify the foolish dreamer who believes in them. He has been gently wakened from his dream by understanding what he thought he saw was never there. And now he cannot feel that all escape has been denied to him. He does not have to fight to save himself. He does not have to kill the dragons which he thought pursued him. Nor need he erect the heavy walls of stone and iron doors he thought would make him safe. He can remove the ponderous and useless armor made to chain his mind to fear and misery. His step is light, and as he lifts his foot to stride ahead a star is left behind, to point the way to those who follow him. Forgiveness must be practiced, for the world cannot perceive its meaning, nor provide a guide to teach you its beneficence. There is no thought in all the world that leads to any understanding of the laws it follows, nor the Thought that it reflects. It is as alien to the world as is your own reality. And yet it joins your mind with the reality in you. Today we practice true forgiveness, that the time of joining be no more delayed. Let us ask of Him: Let me perceive forgiveness as it is. Then choose one brother as He will direct, and catalogue his "sins," as one by one they cross your mind. Be certain not to dwell on any one of them, but realize that you are using his "offenses" but to save the world from all ideas of sin. Briefly consider all the evil things you thought of him, and each time ask yourself, "Would I condemn myself for doing this?" Let him be freed from all the thoughts you had of sin in him. And now you are prepared for freedom. If you have been practicing thus far in willingness and honesty, you will begin to sense a lifting up, a lightening of weight across your chest, a deep and certain feeling of relief. The time remaining should be given to experiencing the escape from all the heavy chains you sought to lay upon your brother, but were laid upon yourself. Forgiveness should be practiced through the day, for there will still be many times when you forget its meaning and attack yourself. When this occurs, allow your mind to see through this illusion as you tell yourself: Let me perceive forgiveness as it is. Would I accuse myself of doing this? I will not lay this chain upon myself. In everything you do remember this: No one is crucified alone, and yet no one can enter Heaven by himself.- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 134
A very good morning to you! It is Wednesday morning, the 20th of April 2022 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day.If we go to Psalm 8, I am reading from verse 4:“What is man the You are mindful of him,And the son of man that You visit him?For You have made him a little lower than the angelsAnd You have crowned him with glory and honourYou have made him to have dominionover the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet…”What a beautiful scripture! The Lord loves us so much that He has put all creation under our feet, literally. God cares for you my dear friend and He cares for me. If we go to Matthew 8:25, the disciples were in the boat. It was sinking but Jesus was sleeping. They woke Him up and they said, “Save us, Lord, we are perishing!” They thought that they would drown in the storm but Jesus saved them and He wants to save you today... Save you from yourself, actually. You know, Peter the big fisherman had so disgraced himself that he never thought that Jesus would ever have anything more to do with him. Remember, after saying to the Lord that he would die for Him, he denied Him three times. The Lord knew that and when he sent the angel to tell the disciples in Mark 16:7 telling them to go to Galilee and to wait for Him… Let's read it, starting from verse 6:“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. (Now, listen to this!) But go, tell His disciples - and Peter - that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.”He knew that Peter would not come because he felt so terrible. The Lord said, “Tell the disciples... and Peter.” That is how much the Lord Jesus Christ loves us - It is a miracle! Do you know, the Lord knows us individually by name. And do you know that He has given each one of us individual fingerprints? Now they say there are approximately 7.5 billion people on the earth at the moment and yet there is not another person who has the same fingerprints as you! Never mind the billions that have gone before us. He loves us and He cares for us.Do you know the word mindful? I looked it up in the dictionary, it means to be aware of something - He is aware of you. We had an old couple that came to join us on the farm, Uncle Jimmy and Aunty Moira. They just arrived here one day. He said, "God has told me to come and help you." And so I said, "That's fine." We put them in a little cottage and they came to stay with us. When Uncle Jimmy was dying, on his deathbed, he used to call me, “Jock”, he said to me, “Jock, take care and be mindful of Aunty Moira.” I gave him my word and I said, "Until the day she dies..." and I did but I want to tell you, Jesus loves us so much. Our Heavenly Father said in the most famous verse in the Bible, John 3:16, for God so loved you and me that He gave us His only begotten Son. Have a wonderful day and remember, He loves you and He is mindful of you!Jesus bless you and goodbye.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-3- “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” Shortly after rapture, which could be a few days or even weeks, the “Antichrist” will be revealed. The clearest passage in the New Testament that addresses this is found in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8. “Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him… Let no one deceive you by any means…. And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed…” Right now, the church, which is all believers, are the “restrainers”. Our very presence with the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, retrains evil from taking place on earth around us. At the moment we are all gone from earth, the “One who now restrains is taken out of the way.” And then the “lawless one” will be revealed, who is also called in this passage, “the man of sin” and the “son of perdition”, and better known to us as the “Antichrist”. Revelation 6:2 seems to indicate that he comes on a white horse which signifies that he comes promising peace and unity. “And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.” You can imagine the chaos and confusion that will take place immediately after the rapture with the world already in a condition of wars and rumors of wars. And with tremendous divisions already within countries, like now, people are almost willing to do anything to have peace and safety. I believe this what 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 is talking about: “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” The whole world will accept the Antichrist's leadership and follow him. He will immediately begin to set up a global economy, a global political system and a one world religion. And when he signs a peace treaty with Israel, the seven year tribulation officially begins. I believe it is at this same time that the “two witnesses” appear. “And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." (Revelation 11:3) By the way, if you divide 1,260 by 360, (the number of days in the Jewish calendar), you get exactly 3 ½ years! When these two witnesses start preaching the Gospel with divine protection, I also believe that 144,000 Jews, 12,000 from each tribe, will be saved through their preaching and will join them in preaching the Gospel to every tribe, every language group and every nation, fulfilling the prophesy of Jesus that He will not come back till this takes place. (Revelation 7:2-11) This all will take place in the first 3 ½ years of the tribulation. Goodness, I'm out of time and space! Please listen to the attached chat for the rest of this discussion! But know for sure this old world is getting ripe and ready for these events! Are you prepared? God bless!

Scripture For Today:1 Kings 8:44“When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name, (I will hear…)”God's Word is God's Will pt 1I want to go into a discussion today, of something that will move your prayer life along the path of success faster than anything else I know. That is the very fact – that when you come to understand “God's Word IS God's Will,” you will be able to stand on His Word in Faith in whatever situation you find yourself. In the Lord's Prayer, it says, “Thy will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven…” Other scriptures, too numerous to list, always reference the same fact. Just like “Your Word is Truth.” When you start to put these thing into perspective, you can't help but build up your mountain moving Faith! Amen! In First John 5:14-15, we read: “…and this is the confidence that WE HAVE – IN HIM! That, if we ask ANYTHING according to what? HIS WILL – He hears us. And if we KNOW that HE hears us, whatsoever we ask, we KNOW that we HAVE the petitions that we desire of Him…” Let's break that verse down for a closer look… Confidence in Him (God the Father). What does it mean you can have confidence in someone? It means when they give you their “word,” you know they always keep it. If someone says they will do something, you understand they will do it. No matter what. Your past experience gives you a confidence that they WILL do what they said they will DO. Amen! Moving on… “If we ask anything, according to His Will, we know He (God) hears us…” If someone tells you they will do something, and your past experience with says they enjoy doing whatever IT is, and they have never failed to do this sort of thing in the past… you can have that CONFIDENCE (that we just talked about), that this person will do what they promised for you. Amen! The rest of the verse goes on to explain how we can rest in our confidence, that whatever this person has promised he or she will do – they will do it. We don't have to give it a second thought. It is as good a done. Amen! If I tell my grandchildren that papa is going to do, “x, y, or z” for them, because of the relationship we have; because of their past experience of papa coming through on promises just like this in the past; because they KNOW in their heart (not just in their minds) that papa ALWAYS enjoys blessing them – they can rest assured BELIEVE that papa is going to deliver. In their mind – it's “already been done.” Amen! That's the type of confidence WE can have with God when we find a promise we need in the Bible. HE wrote down His promises TO US! Amen! Another translation of 1 John 5:14-15 says, “This the BOLDNESS we can have in Him…” BE BOLD in your Faith! Amen! I want to pray for you right now that you will just venture outside of your comfort zone a little bit – and BOLDNESS to simply believe what God has already promised in His Word WILL COME TO PASS in your life. This type of BOLDNESS – that His Word IS His Will – will bless you every single time you stand on His Word in YOUR prayer life. Amen! Let's Pray! The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:7-14) 22 While they were thinking on these things, a Stranger walked out. That's usually…?… That's when you want to get… When you go to thinking about Him, that's when He appears. They were talking about Him when He appeared. And that's the reason, maybe, He doesn't appear to so many of us. We talk too much about other things instead about Jesus. Maybe we're talking about trading cars, something else, or the washing, what kind of soap powder do you use, listening to the radio and some kind of nonsense. That's the reason He doesn't appear. If we'd just keep our minds on Him… “Let the meditation of my heart.” He told Joshua, He said, “Meditate on these things day and night.” David said, “I'll bind Them on my bed post.” Sure. Let Them stay in, inside of you and think of Them, meditate upon Them. And that's when He appears. Do you ever notice how the Angel of the Lord comes? Of a evening at three o'clock when I go in, I close everything out, don't let no one come in, and just set there and read the Word, and yield myself until I know He's there. I can feel it when He's coming. He comes in, and I know He's there. Oh, my. That's the way you do. That's the way the disciples did. They were with one place in one accord in an upper room. And they were all up there praising Him. And all of a sudden He came in. That's the way He does it. 56-0405 - "The Resurrection Of Jesus" Rev. Thus will you see alternatives for choice in terms that render choosing meaningful, and keep your mind as free of guilt and pain as God Himself intended it to be, and as it is in truth.

From the Archives from the MHC Baraboo: Lesson of the Day: Let Me Perceive Forgiveness As It IsLet us review the meaning of “forgive,” for it is apt to be distorted and to be perceived as something that entails an unfair sacrifice of righteous wrath, a gift unjustified and undeserved, and a complete denial of the truth. Truth is God’s creation, and to pardon that is meaningless. Those who are forgiven from the view their sins are real are pitifully mocked and twice condemned; first, by themselves for what they think they did, and once again by those who pardon them.It is sin’s unreality that makes forgiveness natural and wholly sane, a deep relief to those who offer it; a quiet blessing where it is received. Greetings and salutations, friends, and happy whatever day it is. I think it is Tuesday today, but the days are running so much together, that I am only pretty sure it is April, and that we are still, sadly, in 2020, the most remarkable and craziest year of my life. Yesterday our eight year old was talking about the NEXT time a pandemic came along, and wondering what we might do then, and my first thought was that pandemics are very rare, my second thought was I hope there is no NEXT pandemic, and my third thought was that this particular pandemic, for an 8 year old, is going to take up a significant portion of her life if it stretches much further. Perhaps such things will be somewhat normal in her mind. I hope that this never becomes normal, however. Hope you all are holding up well! Today's Bible readings are Leviticus 10, Psalms 11 and 12, Proverbs 25 and 1st Thessalonians 4. Our focus passage is derived from Psalms 11:1, "I have taken refuge in the Lord." In today's short episode, I'd like for us to consider two things about this passage: What it means, theologically, that the Lord is a our refuge AND practically, how can we take refuge in Him? Let's read those two Psalms passages, and come back and discuss. So -what is your favorite hymn? Mine changes, but I think my usual answer is a Mighty Fortress is Our God by Martin Luther: A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe does seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. This hymn is based upon passages like Psalm 11:1, and also, even more specifically, it is based on Psalms 46: God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. 2 Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, 3 though its water roars and foams and the mountains quake with its turmoil.Selah 4 There is a river— its streams delight the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the Most High. 5 God is within her; she will not be toppled. God will help her when the morning dawns. 6 Nations rage, kingdoms topple; the earth melts when he lifts his voice. 7 The Lord of Armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.Selah 8 Come, see the works of the Lord, who brings devastation on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease throughout the earth. He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces; he sets wagons ablaze. 10 “Stop your fighting, and know that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.” 11 The Lord of Armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.Selah Psalm 46:1-11 Verse 5 is one of the most quoted verses on Instagram, but we should probably point out that the 'her' in this case is not a particular female that God will keep from failing or toppling, but the City of God - the Refuge of God, the Shelter of God that we are talking about today. Many times in the Scriptures, particularly in the Psalms, we are pointed to God's protection over His people - that HE HIMSELF is our shelter/refuge/fortress. Consider these comforting truths: I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple. 5 For he will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. Psalms 27:4-5 19 How great is your goodness that you have stored up for those who fear you and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in you. 20 You hide them in the protection of your presence; you conceal them in a shelter from human schemes, from quarrelsome tongues. Psalm 31:19-20 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. Psalm 18:2-3 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them shout for joy forever. May you shelter them, and may those who love your name boast about you. 12 For you, Lord, bless the righteous one; you surround him with favor like a shield. Psalm 5:10-12 for you have been a refuge for me, a strong tower in the face of the enemy. 4 I will dwell in your tent forever and take refuge under the shelter of your wings.Selah Psalm 61:3-5 So - how does God protect us? How is He a Shelter? I offer three ways here (and note that this is NOT an exhaustive list. ) 1. He supernaturally protects us by His sovereign Will. Consider Romans 8:26-28, "26 In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.28 We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." I included that first part because it is important. God sovereignly protects His people as a fortress by sovereignly and particularly causing all events to work together for the GOOD of those who KNOW Him and are CALLED according to His purpose. This means that the God who NUMBERS THE HAIRS ON YOUR HEAD also orders the everyday affairs and details of your life to protect you and propel you into His good purposes and pleasures. It won't always be easy, or pain-free, but it will always be for your ULTIMATE GOOD. That is a protection and a shelter from God. Bonus: The Holy Spirit is praying for us in our weakness. (Jesus is too, according to Hebrews!) 2. He supernaturally protects us by His sovereign power, and His angels. First, the angels. God commands and organizes His angels to protect His people, so says passages like Psalm 34:7 ”The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.” AND Hebrews 1:14, “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Also, God Himself protects us, according to numerous passages like Psalm 121:4-5, "Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep.5 The Lord protects you;" Also consider the promise to Israel in Isaiah 41, that Christians inherit also, because we are grafted into the vine of Israel as God's people: I brought you from the ends of the earth and called you from its farthest corners. I said to you: You are my servant; I have chosen you; I haven’t rejected you. 10 Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:9-10 3. He supernaturally protects us by His salvation and preservation for eternal life. John Piper, years before the coronavirus pandemic, tweeted out, "World death rate holds steady at 100%. (Hebrews 9:27) "It is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment." This tweet is very appropriate today, because the fact is, we are all going to die one day. Some tragically, some early, some horribly, and so on, and so forth. This is discouraging, or it would be if it were not for the supernatural preservation and salvation of Jesus! Here's his promise, "Everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." 1st Thessalonians 4, another passage we will read today, points us very specifically to this hope. JESUS IS COMING AGAIN! And when He does, the dead in Christ will rise first, and meet the living in Christ people and they will be MADE NEW - in the twinkling of an eye - in a blink - our old perishable and mortal bodies will be made immortal and imperishable. No matter how badly it ends for some of us - WE WILL NOT PERISH, because the moment our heart stops beating, and we breathe our last, in the next moment, we will step into eternity as a blood-washed, Christ-saved, Grace-purchased child of God, and what we will step into is many magnitudes better and more joyful than what we are stepping out of! Allow me to close with this bit of good news from John Piper about how God is our refuge: God Is Your Refuge and Strength And you will follow his lead if you believe that he is your refuge and strength, which is what verse 1 says: "God is our refuge and strength." People turn away from the risks of significance and choose the brief security of success because they don't really believe this—that God is their strength, and God is refuge, and God is their defender and their refreshment. But I want you to believe it. Look at the connection between verses 2–3 and verse 6. "Though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam . . . " The words for "shake" and "roar" are the same Hebrew words used in verse 6: "The nations rage [roar] and the kingdoms totter [shake]." The point of using these same words like this is to show that whether the threat to us is from nature (with earthquakes and floods and storms, verses 1–3) or from political upheaval and wars (verse 6)—whether our world is shaking from nature or from the nations, God is our refuge. And not just a refuge but an active counter force and a source of peace and refreshment. Verse 6b says that God's response to the raging nations is this: "He utters his voice and the earth melts." His response to dangerous seas that roar and foam is to become for us (note verse 4) another kind of water—river (not a tumultuous sea)—a river whose streams make glad the city of God. This is the secret this morning to whether you will choose significance or mere success: The risks of significance turn out to be no risk at all if you believe that God is your refuge and strength and defender and refreshment. I pray that you will believe it and that God will make plain the path of significance. https://www.desiringgod.org/messages/god-refuge-for-his-people-exalted-among-the-nations#god-is-your-refuge-and-strength

LESSON 59 The following ideas are for review today: (41) God goes with me wherever I go. How can I be alone when God always goes with me? How can I be doubtful and unsure of myself when perfect certainty abides in Him? How can I be disturbed by anything when He rests in me in absolute peace? How can I suffer when love and joy surround me through Him? Let me not cherish illusions about myself. I am perfect because God goes with me wherever I go. (42) God is my strength. Vision is His gift. Let me not look to my own eyes to see today. Let me be willing to exchange my pitiful illusion of seeing for the vision that is given by God. Christ's vision is His gift, and He has given it to me. Let me call upon this gift today, so that this day may help me to understand eternity. (43) God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him. I can see what God wants me to see. I cannot see anything else. Beyond His Will lie only illusions. It is these I choose when I think I can see apart from Him. It is these I choose when I try to see through the body's eyes. Yet the vision of Christ has been given me to replace them. It is through this vision that I choose to see. (44) God is the light in which I see. I cannot see in darkness. God is the only light. Therefore, if I am to see, it must be through Him. I have tried to define what seeing is, and I have been wrong. Now it is given me to understand that God is the light in which I see. Let me welcome vision and the happy world it will show me. (45) God is the Mind with which I think. I have no thoughts I do not share with God. I have no thoughts apart from Him, because I have no mind apart from His. As part of His Mind, my thoughts are His and His Thoughts are mine.- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 59

Have you ever gotten one of those emails that says, "share this if you love Jesus?" Yeah, it might seem kind of dumb, but part of us probably feels guilty not forwarding it on—because what if Jesus really will love us less if we don't?? This kind of thing might sound silly, but it points to a larger issue of making our faith in Jesus superstitious instead of sincere. When we go through the motions in the hopes of earning God's love, we have a kind of superstitious faith. But what if we did things like reading our Bibles and going to church not because we wanted to earn God's blessings, but because we sincerely want to know more about Him? Let's make our faith sincere, not superstitious.
Let me perceive forgiveness as it is. Let us review the meaning of "forgive," for it is apt to be distorted and to be perceived as something that entails an unfair sacrifice of righteous wrath, a gift unjustified and undeserved, and a complete denial of the truth. This twisted viewpoint but reflects the hold that the idea of sin retains as yet upon your mind, as you regard yourself. Because you think your sins are real, you look on pardon as deception.
Why did God create us knowing that we would fall & sin against Him? Let us not forget that scripture says that a righteous man falls seven times but gets back up Proverbs 24:16. And for more important scripture reference to this episode Romans 9:19-29 mentioned in the episode (referenced here) brings up God still finding fault when its God's will. How can what is formed ask to Him who formed it "WHY?" The Potter has the right to make clay for various uses or occassion. It talks about God's reasons being to make know His wrath to the perishing and His glory to the merciful. Read Romans 9 in depth. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wisdom-in-red/support
