Certain Folks are gonna get triggered by this observation, but its not meant to be overly personal or triggering. Its simply meant to be honest. Unless, you're the PM of Canada, The President Of The United States, there is typically always room to make time for Others. There are many successful businessmen/businesswomen, teachers etc who even with their almost full calendars, will graciously make time for others. That act of showing up & that act of decency is to be appreciated & cherished. There are far too many Folks that I've known & know who literally don't have more than a basic job & who only party but are unwilling/unable to make time for others. There's a difference between being active & being "busy" Its good to have self esteem & its good to feel important. Don't get it twisted. It is also good to make time & to show up in the arena! Respect isn't given, it is earned!
When is the best time to call on a busy person? ask Mrs. Long. The woman in the Prickly Pole story. Here are some Christmas trivia for you. Did you know that An artificial Christmas tree would have to be used for over 20 years to be considered “greener” than buying a real tree annually? Yeah! Bet you didn't know that. Prev. If we didn’t enjoy, at least in some shallow way, the iPhone’s ability to distract us for hours on end from the real world, from facing ourselves, we wouldn’t buy them and invest our whole identity in that platform. If we didn’t believe sports were the root of happiness, we wouldn’t sacrifice every second of our life running our kids from school sports to travel sports to dance to whatever. I will tell you this for sure, none of those things will bring you joy- ever, no matter much time you put in or how successful you are, no matter the popularity and attention it brings you. In fact, in a horrible twist, the more we pour our identity into these things, no matter what they are, the emptier we become- because they have no power to give life! Today, we bustle about like sheep without a shepherd. We must let the true shepherd, Jesus Christ, lead us into the wilderness daily to be refreshed, that he can give focus, energy and direction to everything we do.
In this week's episode, I give you a real-life example of how I've gotten more conscious about the language I use and why that's important to creating the life you desire. A few months back, I noticed a lot of people saying to me, “Oh my gosh, you're so busy.” And initially, I agreed with them, and repeated that back when people would ask how I was doing. Now, I've rewritten my response and in this episode, I explain why and how it's important to be uber conscious about the words you use and what to say instead of “I'm busy!” To learn more about what I do and how you can work with me, visit my website: heidistevensinc.com My Instagram: @heidistevensinc Or join my Facebook group for creative female entrepreneurs: ELEVATE ©2018 Heidi Stevens. Our work culture thrives on people telling others – coworkers, bosses, friends, spouses – how busy they are. Really though, we love to say it. Don't tell me you never feel just a little bit of pride when you tell your friends that "No, I can't go out on Wednesday night. I'M BUSY." But busy-ness becomes a dangerous trap. It's so easy to just say "I'm too busy" and to move along from one task to the next, checking things off your list without really putting your full brainpower into any particular item. So when we feel like everything is on fire, and out inboxes pile up with endless newsletters and emails, how do we – as marketers, content creators, and designers – keep our creativity flowing and continue to think outside the box? In this week's episode, Liz and I dive into the tools and techniques that we both use day-to-day to get ourselves out of the "check-the-box" mentality. We share how we push ourselves to keep thinking creatively, in order to fuel the passions that we both have for what we do, and to continue to produce higher-quality work. WHAT DID WE TALK ABOUT? What are some simple tools and websites that help inspire creativity? As designers and content creators, what kinds of things do we read to stay inspired? Why, as professionals, should we go out and network with others in our respective niches? How do you really step back and reset yourself and get your creative juices flowing again? What do Liz and I like to read and listen to, for fun and for work?
