The Lightning of New Ideas
Ep 134. I recently had a transformative experience where I felt called to lay down before bed and allow my “higher self” to thank me for all the work I've done up to this point. I had the thought to voice record the process, where I simply talked to myself and said all the things we never acknowledge or validate out loud but need to hear — not from the outside world, but from ourselves. Afterwards, I decided to plug the transcript of the voice recording into ChatGPT… and I was shocked at how valuable it was to not only have this healing moment and my own words recollected in such detail, but to have actual helpful prompts that made this like a therapy session with valuable take aways & homework. While I don't believe that AI should be creating our visual artwork or writing our blog posts, I've found that it can be incredibly useful for self reflection and introspection and I wanted to share the exact formula of how I completed this process, as it was so deeply healing for my inner child to hear these words come out of my mouth. So this week, I'm sharing the exact therapeutic practice that I created (with AI!) to connect with my higher self. If you're feeling called to jump back into a creative flow or are looking for a cost conscious, unconventional tool to help you in your personal growth, this is the perfect place to start. HERE'S THE JUICE: Why understanding Internal Family Systems (IFS) can unlock deep healing by finally embracing all parts of yourself The importance of “talking to yourself” out loud and letting the wise voice inside of you speak with direct insights, appreciation, and advice How to turn this self-conversation into actionable prompts that will further your mental health using AI How to build better self awareness and why it's necessary for lasting behavioral change The hidden power of rest and why it's just as crucial as productivity for person growth - understanding the path that got you to where you are may not be the path that elevates you to your next step in life What exactly does AI have in common with talk therapy? Could it potentially act as a cost effective mental health tool? Inchbald provides tangible strategies for nurturing creativity, highlights inspiring success stories from his Masterpiece Program, and explores the relationship between art and the natural world. In a thought-provoking discussion on AI, Inchbald redefines its role as an enhancer of human ingenuity rather than a substitute. If/Then: Research findings to help us navigate complex issues in business, leadership, and society
If we want to generate better ideas, then we need to get people back to the office.Jonathan Levav, a professor of marketing at Stanford Graduate School of Business, details his study of remote work and creativity. “Pairs that worked face-to-face generated 15 to 20% more ideas than pairs that worked on Zoom,” he notes. What's more, in-person brainstorming helped people consider a wider and more diverse range of possibilities. “Working on Zoom was a double penalty. Fewer ideas — and a narrower set of ideas.”Remote work may be the new normal in our post-pandemic world, but Levav cautions us from accepting the status quo — especially if we want to keep our creative edge. As this episode of If/Then: Business, Leadership, Society. explores, our best ideas could still lie ahead of us — if we can all get in the same room.If/Then is a podcast from Stanford Graduate School of Business that examines research findings that can help us navigate the complex issues we face in business, leadership, and society. Each episode features an interview with a Stanford GSB faculty member. Key Takeaways: For hybrid work environments, managers should select “in-office” days based on tasks we perform better in person, such as collaboration and brainstorming.More flexible schedules for remote and office work allow employees to bring their best selves and perform better at their jobs. It's a myth that sleep is a waste of time. In fact our brains are super active when we're sleeping. Now researchers are looking into the hypnagogic state, a transitional state between wakefulness and sleep to see if we can influence our own dreams. During this state, our brains are still active. It's a unique state of consciousness where we can be aware of our thoughts and surroundings, but we are also open to suggestion. Researchers are interested in the hypnagogic state because it may offer a way to influence our dreams. By focusing on certain thoughts or images before we fall asleep, we may be able to influence the content of our dreams. This could be a useful tool for problem-solving, creativity, or simply for having more enjoyable dreams. Listen for more details and tips for influencing your dreams during the hypnagogic state.
